2004s "Group Web Item" Explanation

Hi, Can someone explain the "Group Web Item" to me? I put several items in it, but when I configure the "Group Web Item" it requests a single subordinate web item? And when I run it only the one assigned web item shows up on the screen. Is it supposed to only display 1 item? Doesn't seem to make any sense to me.
What am I missing here?

Hi Kenneth,
In a group item you can have web item assigned to
1. Caption
2. toolbar
3. Design
All the webitems (that can be container/conatiner layout or any other web item) can be assigned to 1, 2 and 3.
Also you can use conatiner layout and assign couple of other web items and specify all the web items correctly in the conatiner layout or
you can create a table in a container and drag and drop other web items in the table.
Then you need to assign the conatiner or the container layout to the design subordinate item. (3-design)
When web template with group item is executed, the web report will only shows up the web items that you have assigned in the 3 areas; (design/caption/toolbar).
Can I ask what web items do u want to display? And what web item did you assign in the design (3)?

It looks you want to do this on the web. The first thing to be aware of is the the button group web item is only available in SAP NetWeaver 2004s BI Web Application Designer. The BW 3.x web application designer allows you to do this with javascript. Basically you have 2 options:
1. Multiple views and dataproviders and hiding and showing the different web items (similar to default template 0ADHOC).
2. Use javascript. This example shows you how to show/hide key figure elements

WAD 7.0 Checkbox Group web item - ability to select/deselect all

Hello. I am currently using within the Web Application Designer 7.0 the web item Checkbox Group. I would like the ability to add a "select all" and "deselect all" button(s) to select all values and deselect all values respectively.
Has anyone in the community been able to accomplish this? Our user base has asked about this frequently.

This can be solved by using a Container layout item and a button group item.
1 Put the Checkbox item and a button group item in the Container layout item.
2 Configure a button in the button group item with the command CLEAR_SELECTION_STATE and connect it to the criteria/key figures you wish to use it on.
3 Configure another button similarely with the command SET_SELECTION STATE. (In our user case this button was not necessary)
4 Configure the Container layout item to display your checkbox and button group as desired.
This should solve your problem, we had exactly the same problem with the before "unfriendly" user interface.

You can use the web analyzer dialog to access roles. Otherwise, you have to use Portal Roles.

Grouping Key Figures via Web item?

Hi,
in our webtemplates we would like to split the key figures (part of a structure) into two web items.
Is it possible to split key figures, all part of one key figure structure, over two web items.
Which webitem can handle this?
Or does it require custom java(script)?

If I'm understanding your requirement correctly, what you could do is just use the standard analysis item. That item has a config value where you can specify which columns must be displayed.
If you know which key figures you want displayed where, you can set those values.
So, for the 1st analysis item you would display columns 1-5, and the 2nd analysis item would then show columns 6-15.
I'll play around with this and see if I can get it working, altenately let me know if this answers your question already.

2004s Navigation Pane web item customization

Hello. I have a question regarding the navigation pane web item using the Web Application Designer 7.0. In the 3.5 version we had the capability of selecting specific characteristics to include in our navigation blocks. For example, our data provider might be an ad hoc query with numerous free characteristics. However, in the web template we would only include a subset of those characteristics in our navigation block.
Now when using the 7.0 tool it appears as though when adding the navigation pane web item I can only select rows, columns, query view, or free characteristics. Is my only option to create a query view on my base ad hoc query to limit the characteristics I want?
Any advice on this particular web item would be sincerely appreciated.

I think what you may be after is called NAV_CHARACTERISTIC_SEL and is documented in the following page

From the SAP documentation this enhancement to the navigational pane should be available as part of SPS14.

How to fix column / row as "header" in WAD (Web item Analysis) ?

is there a possibility to fix a column or row as "header" in web item analysis? (like freeze panes in excel)

We did a custom proof of concept on this back in 3.5 using CSS and/or javascript. At that time there was no BW solution for this.
Don't know if 2004s has this ability or not. Here's a link to an example that shows how it can be done using CSS:

Hierarchical Filter Web Item causes validation warning.

When I validate my web template which contains a hierarchical filter web item agianst the server I get the following warning (W1):
Mapping for Service item_validation_service for Object HIERARCHICAL_FILTER_ITEM missing
Maybe this also relates to my problem of not having the possibility to choose a characteristic for the hierarchical filter (see my post <a href="https://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=209968&tstart=0">https://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=209968&tstart=0</a>)
How can I fix this mapping issue?

Hello,
Your first problem is that ABAP SP does not equal Java SP. This is not a valid scenario.
Please update both to <b>the same SP level</b>.
After it, please retest your problem. I think that the problems will be solved (at least this one with validation service).
Short explanation to validation service:
Every template created in WAD will be validated before saving it. We have two validations:
1. one is locally with the meta data this checks if:
- all used parameters are on its place,
- all parameter values are valid,
- all defined items are existing...
2. second one is extended validation on the Java Server: this one checks i.e. following:
- are all used data providers valid
- are all used characteristics valid
- item dependent validation (e.g. if one item needs a dependency between to setting - this can be checked here)
The first one will be executed in Front-End and in ABAP Back-End. The second one in Java. Because your Java stack is /probably/ lower than ABAP, this validation does not work.
I hope I have explained it clearly.

Data Binding in Web Items

In 3.5 it was possible to assign mulitple dataproviders to a web item. For example it was possible to assign 2 datprovider to the navigation block. This was useful where a web template had 2 dataproviders for a table and chart. Of course there would need to be common characteristics in both data providers.
Navigation changes made would effect both the table and chart.
In 2004s it does not appear to be possible to assign more than 1 data provider to a web item under data binding.
Does anyone know if this is the case OR is it possible to assign more than 1 dataprovider.

Can I change the standard text for web item 'INFO_FIELD_ITEM'?

Hello experts.
I made a WAD template using web item 'INFO_FIELD_ITEM'. In data binding, I used the 'Last refresh' of general text elements. As a result, in the web browser I can see the last update date & time. (e.g. 'Last refresh: 2007.01.17 17:34:44') Then our customer want to change the default text "Last refresh" as "Working time".
How can I change this?
I tried to change the text symbols for program SAPLRRSV. But it worked only in Bex Analyzer not in the web.
Our server version is Netweaver 2004s and SP10.

I had the same problem - just wanted to display the values of a variable in an info-field, but not the caption.
I found out, that there's a tag for Info-Field Item called ONLY_VALUES (it's the checkbox under the headers visible checkbox in the properties dialog of the Info-Field Item; in my WAD version, there's no label assigned to this checkbox, so it was not easy to find out what it should be),
You have to set it to 'X' (check it) ; then you get the unformatted value of the variable (no caption anymore).

You have to insert the info-field item between span tags so that you can define your own formatting values.

There's only one disadvantage: If you have chosen a lot of variable values (multiple selection), the variable string gets very long and no line break is performed, because all blanks in the string are replaced by nbsp's. I solved this with a little Java Script, replacing the appropriate nbsp-s with br tags.

I had an information that PDF export would be supported for Container Layout Web Item with SPS11. We hrecently have installed SPS11 but the functionality is still not available.
Does any one have more info on this ? Has SAP changed the plan ?

I' an APEX newbie and believe I am having the same or a similar problem. I am (for now) developing a system using the hosted Apex development system online. I have created a Report Query which works fine with the default layout. I downloaded the XML (tried both sample data and schema) into Word 2007 with the BI Publisher Template Builder. I used the table wizard to create a simple layout containing all columns with no customization at all. Saved as an RTF, uploaded to Apex as a Report Layout, associated it with the Report Query, clicked Test Report -- and I got nothing.
When the is a PDF, I get the same error you mention ( Adobe Reader could not open the <file name> because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded ). If I switch to an HTML file the out is just a blank screen.
If I switch back to generic report layout, it works fine. This suggests there is something wrong with the template, though it looks fine in Word with the sample data.
I've searched the forums and Google for the better part of a day. What am I missing?

Toggle between Web Items using an Image link in WAD 7.0

Hello,
i want to toggle between Web items using an image link: e.g. on my template I have a visible table and a hidden chart, now when I click on a small chart image I want the table to get hidden and the chart to get visible. I know that this is possible using a button group, but I need to make this possible using an image.
My approach is the following:
1. Using a script item with 2 commands of type SET_ITEM_PARAMETERS from the command wizard, from which one command hides the table and one command makes the chart visible.
2. Writing a hyperlink which calls up the script using the image as source.
Now my problem:
This works only if I'm using ONE command of type SET_ITEM_PARAMETERS in the script function. So I can either make the chart visible or hide the table. When I insert a second command in the java script nothing works anymore. However, I need to use both commands at once in order to make it useful. I don't know how to program in javascript, can you help me out?!

PS: I could show you the javascript code which was created automatically by the web application designer including both commands, but as I've just seen it in the preview it looks totally messed up since it doesn't get formatted corrected.

There is an easier approach. In the button group item, you can insert an image and a description. Just open the parameters of your button there you will find the parameter 'icon'. Insert an image there and leave the 'caption' empty.

Web application designer is having more features than query designer.
Some of the uses of various web items are
Lets take one scenario If your infoprovider consisting of three dimensions such as
Customer number,sales person number,material number
1.Dropdown box can be used for selection.Only one character can be assigned to drop down box.:If Customer number is assigned,it lists all customer number
Check box,radio buttons and list box all these are based on same functionalities only some minor difference
2.Filter panel is usen when there is thousands of records.Here selection range can be given(<u>Ex</u>:Customer number from 100 to 140)
3.Analysis item to display final result
4.Chart to make comparision.(<u>Ex</u>:Sales person & Quantity sold)
5.Button group item to give some commands

Web item tray

Hello guys, I have a question regarding trays of web items.
I want web item "group" intially be "expanded" when the web templates for the first time. When the user navigates e.g. in queries the template gets reloaded and the web item "group" is expanded regardless of which state it had before. And the other way round when the initial setting says "not expanded".
How can I get this fixed? Is this a bug or do I have to make some more settings?

hi Anja,
you might consider not to use the trays. you can use button group. add a button (name 'close') with command SET_ITEM_PARAMETER to the web item. within this command you select the group item and set the settings for visibility to 'hidden'.
Next to the group item you add a similar button with the command visibility 'visible'.
the user can open and close with buttons and the itemsetting will remain during navigation.
see if that works or you.
