3.0 EA1 - run/debug dialog (pl/sql) doesn't keep values on next run

Hello,
first of all: nice tool - great job :)
In 3.0 there seems to be a problem with the pl/sql run and debug dialog:
DECLARE
PARAM_1 NUMBER;
PARAM_2 VARCHAR2(200);
BEGIN
PARAM_1 := *42; -- THESE VALUES ARE 'RESET' TO NULL WHEN EXECUTING THE 2nd, 3rd, ... time*
PARAM_2 := *'whatever'; -- THESE VALUES ARE 'RESET' TO NULL WHEN EXECUTING THE 2nd, 3rd, ... time*
MY_PACKAGE.MY_PROCEDURE(
PARAM_1 => PARAM_1,
PARAM_2 => PARAM_2
END;
Best regards,
Daniel

Yes, noticed this too. A loss of pre-3.0 functionality.
Additionally, I even had situations where the dialog of a wrong package/proc would show.
Hope these get resolved before production,
K.

  • EA3/EA2/EA1 - Bind Variables in PL/SQL

    EA1 seems to have taken a backward step when it comes to supporting bind variables in PL/SQL.
    Back in 1.1.3, according to the bugs fixed list, we apparently fixed bug 5884935 (BINDS IN A PL/SQL STATEMENT HAS "NOT ALL VARIABLES BOUND" ERROR), although this was only ever when running as scripts (as per Bind variables in PLSQL bug not fixed?
    Now according to the 1.2 documentation, bind variables are not supported in the script runner (section 1.7.2) and the SQL*Plus variable command is not supported (section 1.7.1). However, I can run the following code "successfully" (no errors reported but the substitution text entered does not appear in the dbms_output):
    variable bind_text varchar2(30);
    declare
    l_text varchar2(30);
    begin
    :bind_text := '&sub_text';
    dbms_output.put_line('Bind text: "' || :bind_text || '"');
    end;
    Now in EA1, running this as a script results in "ORA-01006: bind variable does not exist"
    Running the variable statement results in "ORA-00900: Invalid SQL Statement" and running the PL/SQL results in "ORA-1008: not all variables bound".
    Can someone from the SQL Developer team please comment on the intended support for bind variables in PL/SQL?
    Thanks,
    theFurryOne

    I know that the variable command isn't supported (as I said above), but that was also the case in 1.2, where it did actually sort of work.
    I am not talking about local PL/SQL variables declared within the PL/SQL - I am trying to get user entered values into the PL/SQL in the same way as prompting for bind variable values in SQL.
    So using SQL Developer bind variables inside PL/SQL is my end goal - preferably when running anonymous PL/SQL blocks as statements in the worksheet.
    However, as there have been "fixed" bugs to enable bind variables in PL/SQL, which require the use of SQL Plus commands that are not supported in SQL Developer (ie variable), I am trying to work out what the development team think the intended support for bind variables in PL/SQL is. Then I will know if what I want needs to be reported as a bug or logged as an enhancement request.

  • Debugging in Oracle SQL Developer

    I would like to know how to debug my PL / SQL programs in the Oracle SQL Developer program using breakpoints and such. I've never known how to use debugging tools like this and since this program provides this kind of feature, I was wondering if anyone on here might be able to shine some light on this for me. How are these used? How could I use them to say, figure out what the value of a given variable might be on line whatever? Etc.
    One reason I'm setting out to learn this is because I'm tired of typing DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE all the time. I would think that there must be a better way than this.
    Lastly (and while we're on that subject), what would cause SQL Developer to not output a DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE line? I've given this a string of text to output to the monitor and it's not working. It's in the DECLARE section (thinking I could place these almost anywhere my tiny little heart desired, but apparently, I'm wrong?)
    Again, any insight is appreciated.

    Oh, I get it... We had another pesky drop-out fishing for homework cheats again, right?
    Here's a suggestion to make this forum (you know, a place where people come together who all think differently about things both deep and shallow) somewhat more accepting and useful a place for idiots like me who might happen to overlook an apparently obvious "Help" menu item with the glowing neon-colored label heading of "Table of Contents": instead of wasting your own time (let alone, others) by posting silly responses that serve arbitrary agendas for the sake of inflating one's ego and online rep points due to having a bad high school experience, why not just instead take a high road (all the real Oracle kings around here hopefully take) and either ignore the response altogether or post something at least 1% useful. Sound like a plan? Great! For instance, why not inquire about why someone posted something that might not make sense to you? It's an amazing concept...
    Because after all...
    "+I'm often perplexed about the "answers" we get. Seems like you never posted your suggestions.+"
    ...doesn't do a lot for people who come across this thread in similar straights or perspective I was in at the time of creating it.
    That said, something like...
    "+Since you're using Oracle SQL Developer, you should have a 'Help' menu item near the top of the window. Click on it and then click on 'Table of Contents'. Proceed to do as Jim suggested by locating the topic 'Running and Debugging Functions and Procedures'. In that section of the contents, you will find more information about debugging your program, tips and tricks, etc. If this doesn't help you or if you're unsure about something in general, feel free to post back and we'll try to help you further.+"
    ...is much more helpful and succinct. It's welcoming, objective, and very informative (not that Jim's response wasn't).
    On that note, Jim, I do appreciate your response. When I first read your suggestion, I had misinterpreted what you proposed in the heat of the moment. Above all else, I also had some things going on around me that were distracting me. Thanks again. I'm reading the topic right now...

  • Why AIR presents debug dialog at launch?

    Folks,
    I am using FU 4.1.0.8 and the <flexunit> Ant task to run some AIR based FlexUnit tests.  The version of AIR is 3.1.  I have staged a filesystem in which the tests are built and launched from. In particular, in my Ant script, I am overiding the Windows env vars USERPROFILE and HOME. At first I had errors even getting adl.exe to launch at all (see forums.adobe.com/thread/1076319), but now that I have created the folders in my staged area that AIR is apparently looking for, I am getting it to launch now.  However, it is now presenting me with a debug dialog (see image below), rather than running the tests.
    Could someone help me to understand why AIR is presenting this dialog, and how I can prevent it from happening in the first place?  Ideally, I want this to be a CI-like unattended situation.  I am sure that my using a different folder for the user home dir (USERPROFILE) is the likely culprit. Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Trevor

    Trevor,
    The app was compiled in debug mode and, at launch, believes that some wants to debug it, so it is reaching out to the IDE to connect for remote debuggingg supprt.
    ADL has a -nodebug option which should prevent that from occuring, regardless of how the app is/was built.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/build/WSfffb011ac560372f-6fa6d7e0128cca93d31-8000.html
    I would give that a whirl,
    Mike

  • Debug of PL/SQL stored procedure

    Hi!
    I am trying to debug a PL/SQL procedure in Oracle Apps. I noticed that the procedure makes calls to dbms_output.put_line to output debug lines.
    Is it possible to run the procedure through the concurrent manager and be able to view the debug lines? I have checked the program through sqlplus.
    Thanks
    CSB

    You could use an AX Trace feature, and make the trace optional, ie
    Encapsulate your program as following:
    PROCEDURE x (errbuf OUT VARCHAR2
    ,errcode OUT INTEGER)
    IS
    BEGIN

  • REP-1401: 'no_daysformula':Fatal PL/SQL error occured. ora-06503: PL/SQL : Functio returned without value. REP-0619: You cannot run without a layout.

    Hi everyone.
    Can anyone tell me what is wrong in this code below?
    Code:
    function NO_DAYSFormula return Number is
    begin
      IF TO_CHAR(TO_DATE(:P_FR_DT, 'DD-MM-RRRR'), 'RRRR') =TO_CHAR(TO_DATE(:ACCT_OPN_DT, 'DD-MM-RRRR'), 'RRRR')
      AND :P_TO_DT<:MATURITY_DATE
      AND :ACCT_OPN_DT>:P_FR_DT
      THEN RETURN (:P_TO_DT-:ACCT_OPN_DT+1);
      ELSIF TO_CHAR(TO_DATE(:P_FR_DT, 'DD-MM-RRRR'), 'RRRR') =TO_CHAR(TO_DATE(:ACCT_OPN_DT, 'DD-MM-RRRR'), 'RRRR')
      AND :P_TO_DT<:MATURITY_DATE
      AND :ACCT_OPN_DT<:P_FR_DT
      THEN RETURN (:P_FR_DT-:P_TO_DT+1);
      ELSIF TO_CHAR(TO_DATE(:P_FR_DT, 'DD-MM-RRRR'), 'RRRR') =TO_CHAR(TO_DATE(:ACCT_OPN_DT, 'DD-MM-RRRR'), 'RRRR')
       AND :P_TO_DT>:MATURITY_DATE
       AND :ACCT_OPN_DT<:P_FR_DT
      THEN RETURN (:P_FR_DT-:MATURITY_DATE+1);
      END IF;
    END;
    It gets compiled successfully but when i run the report, i get 2 errors.
    Error 1:
    REP-1401: 'no_daysformula':Fatal PL/SQL error occurred.
    ora-06503: PL/SQL : Function returned without value.
    Error 2:
    REP-0619: You cannot run without a layout.
    Should i use only 1 return statement?
    Can i use as many return statements as i want?
    What is the exact mistake? Please let me know.
    Thank You.

    Let me clear you the first thing...
    If you get any fatal errors while running the report (e.g., function returned without value,no value etc.,) the report will show
    REP-0619: You cannot run without a layout.
    So you just correct the function 'no_daysformula' .
    First of all you run the report without that formula column.
    If it works fine then , Check the return value of your formula column (Your formula column properties --> Return value --> value (It will be DATE as i think so).
    As function will always return a single value, Check your formula 'no_daysformula' returns the same.
    declare a return variable say for example..
    DECLARE
    V_DATE DATE;
    BEGIN
    --YOUR CODE---
    RETURN V_DATE := (RETURN VALUE)
    END;
    Last but not least ... use Else condition to return (NULL or any value ) in your code and check..
    If any Problem persists let me know

    Soofi.

  • How can I debug a PL/SQL?

    I want to debug a PL/SQL which located in a database in another computer. I use that computer's IP address, name and my local computer's IP address, SQL developers always has error:
    Executing PL/SQL: ALTER SESSION SET PLSQL_DEBUG=TRUE
    Executing PL/SQL: CALL DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP( '10.120.6.2', '2140' )
    ORA-30683: failure establishing connection to debugger
    ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP", line 68
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    Process exited.
    Does anyone have experience of debug a PL.SQL?
    Thx

    I know the problem is, I use SQL Developer to debug remote database, so when it asks me "Debugger Host", I should fill in with my local machine's name or IP address. It can not recognize 127.0.0.1.
    Any way, thx

    Hi,
    Have you tried : Tools - Database Unload.
    There are several types of objects which you can choose - package and package bodies.
    I usually put them into a single file. I haven't tried to do so into multiple files.
    If you need to get them into different files, use the Unload feature from the Connection - Package - right click and choose Unload. But you need to do this one by one for each package.
    Btw, it is not Import. The correct term for what you want is to Export, here in SQL Dev refers to Unload.
    Import is used when you want to put something from outside source into the Database.

  • VStudio is crashing while debugging Oracle PL/SQl scripts from VS

    Hi all,
    I am using Visual Studio 2008 and Oracle11g, ODTwithODAC1110620 for debugging Oracle PL/SQL packages from Visual Studio. My solution has several C# projects and a big chunk of Oracle package. I have configured visual studio and able to debug the scrips. But, while debugging the scripts, all of a sudden, solution gets closes automatically and nothing that I can do other than opening the solution and do it again. It seems weird and I could not trace out what went wrong.
    But, I could see few errors in event viewer and below is the description.
    *".NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.3623 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (7A2F8992) (0)"*
    Please suggest me how to resolve the issue and let me know if further information is required.
    My apologies, if this is not the proper area to post this issue and suggest me where I can get help in this regards. Thanks in advance.

  • SQL Error: ORA-12899: value too large for column

    Hi,
    I'm trying to understand the above error. It occurs when we are migrating data from one oracle database to another:
    Error report:
    SQL Error: ORA-12899: value too large for column "USER_XYZ"."TAB_XYZ"."COL_XYZ" (actual: 10, maximum: 8)
    12899. 00000 - "value too large for column %s (actual: %s, maximum: %s)"
    *Cause:    An attempt was made to insert or update a column with a value
    which is too wide for the width of the destination column.
    The name of the column is given, along with the actual width
    of the value, and the maximum allowed width of the column.
    Note that widths are reported in characters if character length
    semantics are in effect for the column, otherwise widths are
    reported in bytes.
    *Action:   Examine the SQL statement for correctness.  Check source
    and destination column data types.
    Either make the destination column wider, or use a subset
    of the source column (i.e. use substring).
    The source database runs - Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production
    The target database runs - Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
    The source and target table are identical and the column definitions are exactly the same. The column we get the error on is of CHAR(8). To migrate the data we use either a dblink or oracle datapump, both result in the same error. The data in the column is a fixed length string of 8 characters.
    To resolve the error the column "COL_XYZ" gets widened by:
    alter table TAB_XYZ modify (COL_XYZ varchar2(10));
    -alter table TAB_XYZ succeeded.
    We now move the data from the source into the target table without problem and then run:
    select max(length(COL_XYZ)) from TAB_XYZ;
    -8
    So the maximal string length for this column is 8 characters. To reduce the column width back to its original 8, we then run:
    alter table TAB_XYZ modify (COL_XYZ varchar2(8));
    -Error report:
    SQL Error: ORA-01441: cannot decrease column length because some value is too big
    01441. 00000 - "cannot decrease column length because some value is too big"
    *Cause:
    *Action:
    So we leave the column width at 10, but the curious thing is - once we have the data in the target table, we can then truncate the same table at source (ie. get rid of all the data) and move the data back in the original table (with COL_XYZ set at CHAR(8)) - without any issue.
    My guess the error has something to do with the storage on the target database, but I would like to understand why. If anybody has an idea or suggestion what to look for - much appreciated.
    Cheers.

    Use SQL Reference for datatype specification, length function, etc.

  • REP-2103: PL/SQL formula returned invalid value or no value

    Hi all,
    Before clone the report GEPS FA Prepare Mass Addition Report runs fine. But after cloned from production, it shows error:
    Enter Password:
    REP-0004: Warning: Unable to open user preference file.
    REP-2103: Column 'G_MASS_ADDITION_INVOICE' : PL/SQL formula returned invalid value or no value.

    REP-57054: In-process job terminated:Terminated with error:
    REP-2103: Column 'G_MASS_ADDITION_INVOICE' : PL/SQL formula returned invalid value or no value.
    Actually I didn't have such column 'G_MASS_ADDITION_INVOICE'. This is a group name. I tried a lot, such as widden the formula column width or delete the formula column, but it still show this error. I didn't have any trigger or other formula column. Even I create a new report use the same name with a single query( select sysdate from dual), but it still shows the same error.
    Is there anyone faced this issue before or can help me ? Thanks
