3 Dimensional analysis in BO?

Hi BO Gurus,
I want to know if 3-dimensional analysis possible in any of the BO tools, if so I would like to know which tool supports it.
My client wants to analyse the data based on 2 parameters.. like eg: x,y,and z axis in the same graph.. is this possible?
Thanks in advance for all your help.
Regards,
Archy

Archy,
I mean that Chart in WebI, I think we do have in Xcelsius also(Only naming convention differs).
New Parameter means?? Any nemerical data (Measure object in BO terms), if it's so then you can use them for analysis.
Thank You!!

  • Cross dimensional analysis

    Hi,
I'm not sure if this is possible or not so bear with me.
We've got quite a complex cube used for sales reporting and the users want to be able to extract some additional data.
To simplify it down, assume we have a number of products sold through a number of channels and sold by a number of different companies.
For the set of companies that a product can be sold through, this is dependent on the relationship between product and channel.
    For example
    Product 100 + Channel A = Company Z
    Product 100 + Channel B = Company X
    Product 200 + Channel C = Company Z
    and so on.
The difficulty is that there is no pattern to say that every product 100 or everything in Channel A is sold through Company Z.
I wondered if Alias Combination would work but that I'm not sure that is the correct way of doing things.
I next looked at whether I could set up a Company dimension and use the cross dimension operator (->) within a member formula to calculate the values. This didn't seem to work very well.
Is there some other way of doing this that I'm not aware of or is it even possible?

    Hi GlennS,
I can see that your suggestion should work in the situation where a product or channel both have a unique mapping to a company ie. Product 100 maps to company Z no matter which channels its sold through and everything sold through Channel B goes to Company X no matter which products.
The mapping to company in my example is at the combined relationship between Product and Channel. So for Product 100, if sold through Channel A then that could be Company Z, however if sold through Channel B then that might be Company X.
For Product 200 it might be that sales through Channel A go to Company Y, while sales through Channel B go to company Z.
In your example I would have to mark Product 100 as being either Company X or Z, when it reality it could be sold through either company depending on which channel its sold through.
Don't ask me why our sales structures are so complicated!?!
I guess if I think to how I would do something like this in excel, for each data value I would probably concatenate the product and channel together to get a unique reference. I could then test this reference using a lookup table of some sort to determine which company it relates to.
    Does that make sense?
It's something that feels possible in Essbase but perhaps its a bit too complex to try and implement fully...

  • Maximum amount of dimensions in dimension analysis FC 7.5

    Hello, dear colleagues!
Our project team have met problem, using SAP Business Objects Financial consolidation 7.5 (service pack 13 installed). Problem ties with dimension analysis in category. When we try adjust u201Cbreakdown of dimension analysisu201D by 7 dimensions, category canu2019t be validated and we have to shut down Financial Consolidation through task manager (system doesnu2019t respond after starting validation process u2013 at least 5 hours was not enough when we tested it). If we try to adjust breakdown u201Cbreakdown of dimension analysisu201D only by 6 dimensions, system works correct, and category validate within 3-4 seconds. We havenu2019t find any information about maximum number of possible dimensions in breakdown, but itu2019s hard to believe, that itu2019s only 6. We use "post breakdown total to a higher level" options in breakdown.
If anyone has any ideas, please post an answer! Thanks!

    Hello Alexander
The link is to a published KB article on the SMP
For this to work, you need to be a registered user (i.e. have a valid S-number)
But, to summarize: BFC currently only supports up to 7 dimensions in a Dimensional Analysis.
    Best regards,
    Marc

  • Unable to enter the amount in schedules

    Hello Experts
I am Unable to enter the amount in schedule in package when opened via package manager. All seems to be greyed out and edit is not possible.
    Appreciate prompt response.
    Thanks

There are many reasons that could explain why you can not input an amount in a schedule cell.
You should check the followings items :
    - category builder (account families, flow behaviors, dimensional analyses). Also make sure it is ditributed.
    - schedule design (initialization of dimensions and grouping method, cell formulas, read only cell option)
    - data entry restrictions associated to the current reporting
    - user rights
    - package lock/protection

  • To create detailed level report which is preffered  cube or ods

can any 1 plz justify for a new requirement ,detailed level reporting which is best and why.

    Hi Satish,
Infocubes are preffered for Atomic and Summarized Reporting whereas DSOs are more detailed and granular.
But there are certain major drawbacks of Using DSOs for Reporting :
    - Low performance as direct reporting will be extremly slow due to large amount of data stored in single table.
    - Multi-Dimensional analysis not possible.
    - Calculation overheads for KPIs
Choice of DSO/Cube depends on the requirements but Infocubes are more preffered for reportings.
Please check below links for more details to help make choice easier :

  • Requirement of BW

am supposed to give a presentation to Business Users
Could you please send me any standard presentations that will give an overview of BW System and advantages of BW Reports
    (email address removed by moderator)
    Points to be covered
    1) Why only SAP BW
    2) What are the advantages of BW Reports
    3) What is the concept of multi dimensional analysis of data in BW
    4) How should an ideal BW Implementation should be...i mean what are the phases
    Its'urgent
    Regards,
    Priya

    Hi Priya,
Please see this , it may help you.
    (1) Why only SAP BW?
BW supports heterogeneous systems, where as other erp's and sap R/3 supports only homogeneous systems. Performance is also very much good. We can say BW a Decision Support System or Environment. History of data will be nearly 8 to 10ys. It records the data analytically where as the others or just transaction recordings.
    (2)Advantages of BW reports
BW reports we can generate on internet, mobile and excel sheets. Where as the other erp's we can generate reports max on excel sheets only.
Its performance is good since, BW concentrates only on reporting.
(3)Multi dimensional analysis of data in BW
Infocubes have a max of 16 dimensions out of which 3 are predefined.
More data will be stored in dimensions, compared to flat structures. We can generate mini cubes(aggregates), specialising particular characteristics.
    (4)BW implementation
There are 5 stages in implementation
one is collection of datan or preparation of data
second is identifying the end user (client's) requirements ie., defining the landscape
third is preparation of blue print
    fourth is realisation
and last one is testing the entire implementation
Develop evaluation criteria and test plan(testing the entire implementation)
((For implementation in detail you can see this.
    Preparation -
Identify the business requirements with the help of existing documents and business needs.
Basing on the requirements, determine which pre-delivered SD functional areas to be included.
Technical Requirements Planning like frequency of data uploads, events to be triggered (Process chains)
Identify the end user requirements ( BEx, Workbook, Crystal Report..) and security requirements.
Establish System Landscape and Transport Strategy (Basis).
    Blueprint-
Set up of the Development environment .
Business Content Check : Finalize a list of pre delivered business content to be activated by functional components, data sources, info cubes, objects, queries, workbook and roles.
System Administration procedures like data access issues, definition of roles, responsibilities and tasks for each procedure.
Agree upon the instrument (template) to record the test result and additional requirements.
Develop evaluation criteria and test plan.
Coordinate with DBA for Table Spaces definition .
Testing of BW operating environment (both Plug-ins, BW backend and BW front-end).
    Realization-
    Business Contents Activation
Populate SAP delivered business contents with customer data
    Verify the content activation Result
    Data conversions and interface programs
    Final Preparation-
    Perform System Performance Tuning activities
    Adjust database parameters
    Review Indexes
Review data loading time and evaluate feasible options:
    Parallel processing; partitioning; multi cube;
Review Query performance and feasible options:
    Aggregation; compression; MultiCube;
    Develop a BW Operations Guide
    Final approval for going live
    Support-
    Go live Checks
    Support review
    Provide production support
    Validate live business process results
Define the scope of next iteration of implementation.

  • Analytical Vs Operational report

    Hi Experts ,
    In BI,
    What is Analytical report ?
    What is  Operational report ?
What is difference between Analytical & Operational ?
    Points ll be awarded !!!
    Thanks & Regards
    vinsee

    Hi,
    Operational Reporting:
Involves OLTP systems like a SAP R/3 System
Your reporting needs are mostly informational
You do 2 dimensional analysis here
Systems are write optimised. so, reporting is limited in nature
    For day to day operations
Ex: You view revenue and you have customer & region as references
    Analytical Reporting:
Involves OLAP systems like a SAP BW System
Your reporting needs are for processing
You do multi dimensional analysis here
Systems are read optimezed. so, reporting is flexible in nature.
For Long term informational requirements / decision support
Ex: You view revenue & you can have many characteristics as references

  • Essbase Date issue

    Hi,
I have an essbase cube integration with OBIEE. Now, I have dates as measure in Essbase. When I fetch those dates in OBIEE, they appear to be in numeric format. How to show those dates as date format? Any idea?
    Thanks

A date as a measure. While I know that Essbase cube builders like to do that, let me nevertheless ask the question:
Just how do you think / expect that a date should behave as a measure in the context of dimensional analysis?

  • OLAP CUBES

Hi I am a little confused.
I am trying to build a cube with 3 dimensions COUNTRY,ORDER and PVPERIOD.
I have mapped the dimensions to the tables . The country table is WD_AUTO_ORDER_GEO. The order table is WD_AUTO_ORDERS and PVPERIOD is WD_AUTO_ORDER_DATES. The dimensions did map correctly. Now I added some measures from my fact table and I am trying to map my cube.
I mapped my measures fine. I still have to map my order dimension in my cube which ORDER is part of my key in the fact table which MAPPED CORRECTLY... Then I mapped country which is part of my key in the fact table. My problem is pvperiod which is not a column or part of my key in the fact table. Pvperiod needs to be a foreign key in my fact table or part of the primary key. Correct??

    Hi Pam,
I have taken a look at the table definitions you sent. My guess is that these are the raw tables used by your OLTP system to register orders. This guess is based on the fact that all three 'dimension' tables and the 'fact' table share five columns:
    ORDER_NUMBER
    COUNTRY
    RCN
    TYPE
    VFILE
The meaning of the ORDER_NUMBER and COUNTRY seem clear enough, though I am less clear on the other columns. But it appears that when a new order is entered you update all four tables. Is this correct?
In a typical data warehouse system the raw transaction data needs to be transformed by a process know as Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extract,_transform,_load) to create a Star Schema (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_schema). The cube is then loaded directly from the star schema. It may be possible to load the cube directly from your OLTP tables, but that is probably not optimal.
The correct definition of star schema for your system depends on your requirements, but it could include tables like these
    TABLE "GEOGRAPHY_TABLE"
"CUSTOMER_ID" NUMBER,  -- is this RCN in your system?
      "COUNTRY"    VARCHAR2(3 BYTE),
      "STATE"      VARCHAR2(5 BYTE),
      "NAME"       VARCHAR2(45 BYTE),
      "ADDRESS"    VARCHAR2(45 BYTE),
      "ZIP"        VARCHAR2(15 BYTE)
    TABLE "DATE_TABLE"
      "DAY"     DATE,
      "MONTH"   NUMBER,
      "YEAR"    NUMBER
)Note that these are not specific to one order -- they can be shared between orders. Your DATE_TABLE would be pre-populated for the period of interest -- a few years, say. The GEOGRAPHY_TABLE would be updated when a new customer appears or when someone changes address. (Changes of address gets you into the world of 'slowly changing dimensions', so you would need to decide how you want your OLAP system to react to this.) Perhaps you don't need the address detail in the cube at all -- it all depends on what queries you want to run against it.
The 'order dimension' is more difficult since it is really an OLTP concept that is harder to fit into an OLAP system. Do you really want your cube to go down to the level of individual orders? What kind of analysis do you want to do there? A single order is pinned to one customer and one order date, so there is really not much dimensional analysis you can perform. An alternative, for example, would be to aggregate up to the level of 'warehouse' in your cube so that you could see how much traffic goes through an individual warehouse. This is certainly multi-dimensional. Your remaining star schema tables could then look as follows
    TABLE "WAREHOUSE_TABLE"
    "WAREHOUSE"    NUMBER
    TABLE "ORDER_FACT"
      -- dimension keys
      "ORDER_DAY"        DATE,
      "CUSTOMER_ID"      NUMBER,
      "WAREHOUSE"        NUMBER,
-- measures, aggregated from the OLTP tables
)My point in all this is that you need to have a clear idea of what analysis you want to perform on your cube, including which levels (e.g. ORDER) that you need to use. This should be the driver of the cube design, and from here you can work back to the design of the star schema. Perhaps you have already done this analysis, in which case you will be a long way ahead.

  • Drilldown by several different attributes - several distinct multilevel hierarchies or just one

Currently I have a schema that includes orders and the details associated with each order.  Nothing real special or complicated.  However both the Order and the Details can have a multitude of attributes associated with them.  For example,
    an Order can have:
    BusinessType
    MarketType
    SalesPerson
    Account
    Department
    Order Details might include:
    TransactionType
    TransactionAmount
    ItemNumber
    OrderId
So, Im setting up my DW and have used the AdventureWorks 2008 sample for a lot of guidance.  I want to provide users the ability to see order revenue by grouping on one or more of several of the attributes on the Order.  Right now I have a single
Measure group and fact table for Revenue.  It includes the Order Details along with the OrderId.  Then I made a Fact Dimension that includes just the Account and OrderNumber (similar to order id but different).  This leaves me with the question:
If your main fact table has several related Dimensions that users might want to slice by
and in each case, the grouping will be at least 2 levels deep, will I need to build several different Fact dimensions, each with just the attributes that will be included in that hierarchy?  Seems like it.  This looks like what the
Adventureworks sample is doing with the different Fact dimensions that are setup for Internet Sales vs Reseller Sales.

IF I understand you question completely, you want to know that you need to create as many fact dimension as attributes you have in the fact table.
Yes this is right and this is called Degenerated dimension in the Data Warehousing concepts.
If you have too many attribute in the fact for the dimensional analysis then you can create a junk dimension as well including all the attributes in single database table. IN your case the ItemNumber and OrderID can be included in single junk dimension.

  • Palm Piolt Software Crashes In 10.5.1

I'm having some trouble with keeping Palm OS software running on any of my three Macs. The software that installs the files on the Palm TX crashes before the files are fully installed on the Palm.
    My computers:
    iMac G5 10.5.1
    iBook G4 10.5.1
MacBook Pro (Intel Core Due) 10.5.1
    Software being used:

The software that I'm trying to upload onto my Palm:

So I assume they're the ones that did not install on the hand held.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? The Palm software runs for a while, installing some of the files on my Palm, and then it just crashes. On all three of my computers. There's more than enough room on my Palm for this, so I know it hasn't run out of memory. I couldn't find any troubleshooting on Palm's site, so I came here. The Palm software I'm using came with the hand held. I need Taber's for school next month, so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
In the mean time, I'm going to try to install these files one at a time. I hate to because everything else, my dimensional analysis calculator, drug books, and common interactions books all installed fine.

It needed to be downloaded on a card.
