3-wire RTD connection to SCXI-1306

I have read the NI Manual for 3-wire RTD connection with SCXI-1306 but I couldn't understand completely.
Where to connect each cable is understood: one RED cable in AI-; Black to AI+; and Black-2 to IEX+. Like Fig. 4 from SCXI-1306 Terminal Block Manual.
My question is regarding the switches: the manual shows only 2 swiches (Fig 4) and the first is down and secound up. Looking at the Terminal Block there are 4 switches and not only 2.
How should I place the switches?
Thanks

Hi,
From the specification of SCXI-1306, Figure 2, there is only 2 switch per channels.
Can you help to attach the picture showing your SCXI-1306?
Thanks.

I have a SC-2042-RTD Board and the temperature readings I get are approxiximately 7 degrees high. Every thing is connected as specified in the manual. We are using a 3 wire RTD configuratuion. The current excitation is set at 1mA but is actually 1.0035 mA from the board. The Daq card I am using is a DaqCard-A
    I16XE-50.

Two quick things to check are: make sure the sensor does not exceed a max resistance of 8.5k ohms and do not leave any current excitation sources unloaded.
Also, check out chapter five of the SC-2042 user manaul (attached) about how to calibrate the device. This may help get rid of the bad readings.

  • 3-wire RTD with Lead Compensation

This question has been posted before with unsatisfactory replies.
A 3-wire RTD wired for Remote Sensing will transmit two analogues from the SCC-RTD01 into the DAQ, one proportional to 1 leg of the lead + RTD, and the other proportional to one leg. Then for a well balanced system (i.e. all legs of the leads are the same resistance) compensation can be carried out by processing (i.e. adding/subtacting the two analogues) and then calculating the temperature.
Discussion of other configurations i.e. 4-wire is not an option for this project.
Question 1  - Is this mode supported by the NI-DAQ Test Software (Only three options appear available 2, 3 and 4 wire, not 3 wire with compensation).
Question 2 - Is there example or toolbox code available to support this mode.
It should be noted that I am the supplier of the hardware and need to confirm correct operation prior to delivery. I do not have access to any software other than that supplied with the hardware. Although a reference to appropriate code would be useful for the Customer.

    Hello Nitra,
Thank you for being very specific with your description.  The direct answer is that 3 wire RTDs can be connected to the SCC-RTD01, however there is no facility where compensation is calculated based on your description.  The software that directly interfaces with all the hardware plugged into a computer is Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX), which will provide the intelligent driver for allowing user control of testing and scaling of measurements, before any data is collected.
As you may know, one of the key points of RTDs is that although measurements can be affected by lead resistance and self-heating, they are linear throughout their temperature range, and the error caused by its physical factors are stable over a large range.  Their linearity is dependent on the quality of their production, which I am sure you are aware of as a supplier.  Therefore, within MAX, you and your customer will be able adjust all data points by your choice of compensation in degrees C, or similar.
The National Instruments Developer Zone has much documentation that yourself and customers can read, regarding RTDs, and how to make adjustments within the software.  An example is linked below, for the benefit of those needing more information on RTDs
    RTD: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/ph/p/id/208
    Developer Zone: http://www.ni.com/zone
Because of the MAX driver software, users of the hardware will need to setup one DAQmx Task to read from the RTD, if they are using the latest version of our software, such as LabVIEW.  Over 2000 examples exist in LabVIEW's example finder which ships with the software.  To find premade DAQmx code for RTDs the following steps can be used:
    1. Run the LabVIEW program
    2. On the main menu, navigate to 'Help'->'Find Examples...'
    3. In the 'Browse' tab, Browse by 'Task'
    4. Click the folders through to 'Hardware Input and Output'->'DAQmx'->'Analog Measurements'->'Temperature'
    5. Open 'Acq RTD Sample.vi'
Many more examples exist within the help files, online, and through support, for getting the most accurate measurements using NI hardware for data acquisition and signal conditioning.  Please reply back with any further questions on this matter, or if you thought this information was what you were looking for.

  • 3 wires rtd configuration

i'm not able to configure the 3 wires RTD software configuration. i'm using SC2345 and SCC-RTD01. i'm not able to find a specific 3 wires connectionc onfiguration when installing a new channel into the nidaq-virtual channel menù. The default config fits only the 2 and 4 wires connection. How can I subtract the value of the x+8 channel to the x? Can I manage the subtraction directly from the Measure and automation software?
    Thanks all

  • How to know if a wire is connected to a control (in the case of subVI)?

    Hello,
I would know if it is possible to know if a wire (in the caller VI) is connected to the subVI control ,or not.
    - There is any function to test a control to know if it is wired in the caller VI, or not ?
    OR
    - Do I test control defaults values and determine if a wire is connected ?
I hope my question is understandable =)

    Hi
I am not sure if this is of any help. But if click on a connector in the connector pane. You can specify some options. I often use the "is required" option for important input data. If a connector of this type is not wired. An error and a broken arrow will be the result. The VI will not run before the problem is corrected.

  • Fire Wire 800 connections

Am thinking about getting an external hard drive that uses Fire Wire 800 connection. Than realized there is only 1 800 port on this G5. So if I wanted to use another 800 port, it doesn't exist. Not to worry say some, 800 devices can be chained. Not to worry say others, there are 800 hubs just like USB has hubs.
Are any of these truth? What are the facts?

I understand what you are saying. On the main-line computers you hook many devices to a selector channel BUT only one device at a time can perform I/O; on a multi-plexor channel all devices can function at a higher speed than on a selector BUT still not up to their maximum. I would be reluctant to chain a device that would be operating at the same time as another device in the chain.
If chaining is possible, you would need in AND out ports, shades of the SCSI, wouldn't you. I've seen several small (160-250GB) but only one showed me a picture and it appeared to have 1 each USB, 400, and 800 therefore, no way to chain. The others gave me no reason to think they had "out" ports.

apple tv showing wire to connect to itunes via mini usb cable which i dont have?

You need to get the cable to restore the ATV to factory settings, following the procedure here.
USB mini cables are available from many different sources; often even from local stores like CVS or Walgreens. They are inexpensive, as little as a few dollars online & around $5 from some local discount stores.

  • Xi Fi Platinum, in need of wires that connect the drive with the c

Hey I've had a xi fi platinum for more than a year now but only now am I attempting to use spdif optical rather than analog. the only way to do that is to connect the dri've (which previously i didn't have connected) to the card. but i lost the wires that connect the card to the dri've. does anyone know where I can get them, or if it is possible to purchase them from creative? or, is there another way to connect optical to the platinum?
    thanks a lot.

I was in the same boat a week ago. Have a look here:
    http://www.bestbyteinc.com/Cables_&_Misc._Accessories/IDE_Cables/Black_8inch_Single_IDE_ULTRA_ATA_Cable,_40c_x_80p_ 2_conn_0-8/Page_/CBL-IBK-82.html
Now a question for all of you digital experts. Is there any particular reason why the S/PDIF connection from the X-Fi to my HT receiver is sounding inferior to the S/PDIF connection from my DVD player? The cable run from the X-Fi output is a bit long (75 ft.), but I didn't think that would matter as it's impossible to distort a digital signal. Is there perhaps a setting in the audio console that is messing up the signal?

  • 4 wire RTD Agilent temperature measurement

    Hi,
I would like to measure the temperature with 4 wire RTDs with the Agilent 34970A. I configured the EZ Temperature VI with 4 Wire RTD and RTD Type 1 (91). The Problem is, the only data I get are temperatures of 9900000. There is no error message. When I did the set up with thermocouples it worked just fine. When I did the measurements with thermocouples on one card and the RTDs on the second card, the values for the RTDs were the same as for the thermocouples, even if the thermocouples were in a waterbath of 80 °C and the RTDs were outside the bath. I tried to increase the byte count in VISA read (it helped when I had a similar problem with the thermocouples) but it didn't change anything.
At first I would like to calibrate the RTDs alone (to prevent interference with the thermocouples) and afterwards I need to combine the measurements.
Is there anyone who also had this problem and found a solution? I would be very glad if somebody could help me

I found the mistake. It was inside the EZ Temperature VI. The interior setting was to read the RTDs with 100 Ohms resistance instead of the needed 1000 Ohms. I was not able to modify this, so I had to built my own VI out of the advanced scan and the configure temperature VI. Now it works

Can I connect a SCXI 1000 with PCI 6025 and use Virtual Banch with PCI 6025 ?

    Bley,
Yes, you can use your PCI-6025E and SCXI-1000 with Virtual Bench. Do you have a more specific concern? Have you tried this setup, and it is not working?

  • Remote wire not connected :S

When i opened up my mega pc 180 i noticed a loose wire with a label "remote" on it. As you may have figured out, my remote doesn't work. Where to connect this wire and does this solve my problem?
(I dled girder and the msi plug in but i couldn't get that to work yet)

First, note that the remote only works when your PC is turned off for the WiFi (not sure about the girder plugin, as I do not have it installed).
Here is a link to the Mega 865 PC Motherboard manual:  http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/manual/mnu/spt_mnu_detail.php?UID=547&kind=4
The only wire I can see in my system says 'tv remote', and it is not connected.  This was not connected on my first 865 either, and I'm not sure where it should be connected, but, I do know that it does not 'have' to be connected in order for your remote to work, because my remote does work.

  • How do I physically connect the SCXI 1180 when using a 1520 and 1346 adapter?

    Here's my current configuration:
    SCXI 1000 chassis
x2 SCXI 1520 Bridge Modules (Slot 1, and Slot 2)
    1180 Feedthrough panel.
I recently purchased a 1346 adapter so I can use the feedthrough to access AI channels on the DAQ card.
My question is, how do I physically connect the ribbon cable of the 1180? Does it plug into the BACK of the last module in the chassis (ie. bridge module2 in slot 2) or does it plug into the other 49pin connector on the 1346 adapter?
If you read the installation manual for the 1180 http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/371062a.pdf (Page 2-3)
And the installation manual for the 1346 http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/320722b.pdf (page 2)
it seems the instruction contradict eachother. The 1180 manual says connect it to the back of the module
the note under Fig.2 on page 2 of the 1346 says you cannot have anything plugged into the module next to the one that has the 1346 plugged into it; in my case that's module 2...

    SCXI- 1180 Feedthrough Panel w/ 1302 Block
    Signal Express 2014.
    Win7 Enterprise

I have the 1346 plugged into the first module in slot 1.
But let me try and clairfy what you're saying...
"Then the cable from the 1346 kind of loops back into the chassis and through the 1180". So this is my answer? But I'm actually taking  the cable from the 1180 and plugging it into the other 49-pin connector on the 1346. Sorry, symantics...
"...it must be on the first card when using a 1520". By "it" are you referring to the 1346 (which is how it's currently configured) or the 1180 cable?
and lastly; why does the 1180 need to go into slot 2? I can currently fill both slots (1&2) with the 1520's and with the 1346 plugged into module1/slot1, I can pass the ribbon cable around back of module2 and into the 1346.
Is there some other reason beside potential space limitations that you'd use the feedthrough in slot2?
Thanks for your info and patience!

  • AMUX-64T and SC-2042-RTD connections

I am looking into purchasing an AMUX-64T board for use with thermocouples and a 6033E-Series DAQ board, which I already have.  It seems that the recommended way to connect this board to my DAQ board is with a R1005050 cable, which I own.  I can't seem to find, however, if it matters which 50 pin connector (pins 1-50 or 51-100) must be connected to the AMUX-64T.  Currently, I have the pin 1-50 connector going from my 6033E to a SC-2042-RTD board.  (This RTD board must use the pin 1-50 connector, according to its manual.)  Can I simply attach the AMUX-64T board to the pin 51-100 connector and use both the AMUX-64T and the SC-2042-RTD simultaneously?  If not, what additional cables or hardware will I need in order to connect and use both the AMUX-64T and the SC-2042-RTD to my 6033E at the same time?

After looking at the document Hal suggested, I'm still left with a few questions.  For the 6033E Daq board, when split into two 50-pin connectors, on the pin 1-50 cable, AIGND is on pins 1 and 2.  Pins 3-18 are the 16 analog input channels, and pin 19 is the AISense channel.  These are all the channels that are required by the AMUX-64T.  On the pin 51-100 cable, pins 1 and 2 would not be AIGND pins, but rather two analog input channels.  Pins 3-18 would be analog input channels, the same as the pin 1-50 connector.  However, pin 19 is another analog input channel instead of an AISense channel.  The AISense2 and AIGND channels are located on pins 25 and 26 of the pin 51-100 connector, respectively.  On the pin 1-50 connector, pins 25 and 26 are P0.0 and P0.4, respectively.  I suppose it's possible that the AMUX-64T has pins 1,2, and 26 wired as AIGND and pins 19 and 25 wired as AISense, but I just don't know.
That's why I need the pin assignments for the AMUX-64T side of the connection.  What are the pins 1-50 (on both jumpers J1 and J2... which are the same) connected to on the AMUX-64T board?

I am trying to test the coolant pumps on my g5 because one cpu is overheating and there are no coolant leaks, there are 2 Delphi pumps each with 4 wires, they are connected to a black 12 way plug.
I am wondering if I can connect a 12v supply to the pumps to check that they function ok..
If anybody knows what the 4 wires are on the pumps I would be most grateful..
