30 Minute waits to find incompetence at every turn

SIMPLE UPGRADE:  All I wanted to do was trade my 6416 DVR for a 7216 so I could add an external drive.  I called Verizon on 12/23/11. They took the order. However, I was not sure of the competence of the agent.
AGENT IN NEED OF TRAINING:  So, yesterday, 12/27, I called VZN.  The woman with whom I spoke could not determine what the content listed order, after she finally found it.  She sent me to Tech Support.
Tech support told me that the written order was not for a DVR, but for an additional channel (IFC) that I already have on my plan.  He suggested that I go to the local retail outlet, for which he provided the number.
I called the VZN Experience store where they advised me to open an order prior to coming to the store.
CHAT AGENT IN NEED OF TRAINING:  Since, I was waiting 30 minutes or longer for the agents and/or tech support to answer, I had earlier initiated a chat session that I used to place the order.  VERY SPECIFICALLY, I asked for the order/confirmation number which I copied and pasted on a plain document, and printed it for my store visit.
At the store, they informed me that it was not a valid order, nor was there an order on my account, so they needed to write an order.  I finally received the QIP 7216.
At home, the new box would not register.  Again, I called VZN.  The woman determined that the box was bad, and I needed another.  The woman wrote a drop ship order.  We ended the call.
I went to reinstall the old box (6416) until the new arrived.  It would not boot.  I called VZN again.  This VZN gentlemen determined that “the location installation” was bad and VZN needed to dispatch.  VERY CLEARLY, the dispatch was for the following day, today – 12/28.  I had the dispatch number.  Even with the number I was leery.  The gentlemen said that he would also be sending a confirmation email to the email on the account.  I have two email accounts on file – one VZN and one non-VZN.  I never received an email, as he said … AND as others had said earlier.
ANOTHER AGENT IN NEED OF TRAINING:  At noon today, I called VZN to confirm the dispatch.  The dispatch was not for today, but for TOMORROW!?!  The fellow with whom I spoke narrowed the dispatch to the PM tomorrow, and added text notification.  Shortly there after, I received the following text:  “Your Verizon repair request is closed.  For additional help, to Verizon.com/inhomeagent or fioshelp.verizon.com.”
Is there any competence within Verizon?  I dare VZN management to read my account notes!!!!

At least you did get to talk to an incompetent agent.   One night I waited on hold for over 45 mins. and finally gave up and went to bed.  The next day I decided I would just wait them out-  I put the phone on speaker and went about my business.   After 1hr. and 52 mins. I gave up.   Finally went to chat and go to chat with someone who then sent a tech to the house,

  • A last minute suggestion to Find My Mac

The newly introduced (yet to come, but we suppose it comes out along with iOS5 on OCT 4) Find My Mac power is a strong defense against lost Macs. But here comes one trivial question:
Such a measure, to be effective, should be working "backwards", not "forwards", should't it?
By saying backwards, I mean, the mechanism should be able to protect it self, override current settings and let you Find YOUR Mac after you realized your Mac has been stolen. To make it a really effective method, Find My Mac functionality should be activated by default, not by Prompting!
Here comes a hilarious picture. Even if you got luck, enabling "Find My Mac" beforehand it's stolen, the thief can readily reinstall OS and "don't allow" Find My Mac to even start to function. What's the point of "Find My Mac" then? Or is Apple assuming all thieves are as stupid thus forgetting to refreshing your whole HDD?
This is totally not professional. As I know, all the "recovery" softwares for mac, they work in the same "forwards" way. Assuming you managed to Enable them beforehand, and hope for the luck that those thieves are stupid enough not to erase your HDD and yet smart enough to know your password to log in in the first place.
A real world Effective "Find My Mac" should be working backwards, Apple technicians should think about realistic situations "rather than fatasy":
1, Activates automatically, or can be activated remotely under authorization (like, from Apple or Police Department) AFTER you found your computer is stolen or deactivated/restored by the thief.
2, Binds Serial Number. S/N is the only reliable identification for a Mac, since usually thieves will not replace your mother board. It should work in the way that once you knows your S/N and you have registered it under your Apple ID (the whole meaning of ever registered it, isn't it?), you should be able to know where the Mac with the same S/N are.
3, It's totally OK that is uses Internet to locate, given our macs don't have GPS or SIM Card. You see I won't raise far-fetched expectations.
That is one of the only logical way that Find My Mac could ever be useful in a case of theft. And that's what all the customers really wanted, being victims for stolen Macs for years. I know and understand Apple totally doesn't have to do any of these. But isn't it nice we can use Apple Community, Serial Number and its Registration database to protect ourselves. Only Apple can do this. You had direct access to all your devices. I don't see why you can't do this while you can boldly "report, or steal" people's whereabouts for business benifitials in your ios.
Is it beacause after weighing in and out, you find it's not worth it? Is it not worth it to protect your own betrusted consumers against their largest threat to their products: theft? (Note, not all theft are indebted to the owner himself. Break in, Robbery).
If you do love your consumers, it really takes nothing to build a defence within the Apple system. I see "Find My Mac" is a huge step forward. But i hope it can really work to solve real life problems.
Just my last minute suggestions. I am waiting to find my lost Mac one day. I will wait to that day. Because it's not technically impossible. It's just some guy, they don't do it.

The new "possessor" does not need to erase or reinstall. All he needs to do is boot to Recovery HD (single user mode for OS 10.6.8 or earlier), and reset the password–> http://osxdaily.com/2011/08/24/reset-mac-os-x-10-7-lion-password/
For "almost" thief-proof option, you must use your iPad or iPhone to activate firmware password as soon as possible after the Mac goes missing or have already activated a firmware password login. For Macs built 2011 or later, that can only be bypassed at an authorized Apple service shop that SHOULD request ID from the possessor.
A firmware password prompt will appear at the next restart, and no optional boot is available. That means no option to reset admin password, or erase, or boot to single user mode, or reset NVRAM / PRAM, until the firmware is reset using a special digital key only available to the shop. Even a new storage mechanism (new HDD, etc.) cannot turn off the firmware prompt. The digital key is canceled and a new key provided periodically, thus twarting any useful distribution outside of official channels.
Apple does not take a pro-active stance on using firmware password, because for the owners with bad memories, it can become a huge headache and will cause ill will.

  • After clicking "yes" to the question "do you want to update itunes now", i waited 2 hours and 15 minutes and it was still "loading".  i turned computer off thinking something was wrong.  now itunes won't open at all.  do i need to download itunes again?

after clicking "yes" to the question "do you want to update itunes now", i waited 2 hours and 15 minutes and it was still "loading".  i turned computer off thinking something was wrong.  now itunes won't open at all.  do i need to download itunes again?

Did you actually download the installer from Apple or did you use Software Update.  You can download the installer http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Maybe I'm old fashioned but I would consider repairing permissions first using Disk Utility because something caused this to go wrong the first time.  And of course make a backup of your whole library first.  It shouldn't happen but some have complained about their libraries being wiped out by iTunes updates.  Better safe...

completely frustrated w/your site. wasted hour this morning until your sited crashed and the last 20 minutes trying to find out how to send you a simple e-mail !!!!!!!!! Let me know when you get your act together.

So how does a site crash? is it Firefox crashing?

I am trying to use firefox as the web lauch for citrix ica client but when I go to login into remote site - I get the message waiting to find website but it nver finds the website. Has anyone else had this problem?
When I installed firefox, it asked if I wanted to use safari settings and I said yes but I think this might be causing the problem. Safari is no longer compatible with citrix ica client. When I reinstalled firefox it automatically installs the safari info. Does anyone know how to re-install firfox without installing safari info?

Did anyone ever suggest you reset your PRAM?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
Also might want to try resetting the SMC, although I
    doubt there's an issue there.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304123
I'm getting tired of people who supposedly know what
they're doing simply guessing that resinstalling the
OS might solve the issue. It's like trying to dissect
a frog with a sledge hammer, and wondering why you
didn't learn anything about anatomy in the process.
These sorts of things, although bizarre, should be
(and probably are) fixable without major surgery.
Thanks for the suggestion... but I think my first question would be why these parameters would need re-setting? This is a new machine... It has never been shut down hard. It is used at most 10 hours per week... mostly using Office 2004 for MAC. I need to figure this out as I will soon need it as a Cs2/CS3 - Aperture workhorse.
I too agree that it is best not to use a sledge when a scalpel is needed... but as a novice to the MAC world I may have been misled by Apple support. I seems to have fixed the symptoms ( some) but appears NOT to have addressed the cause... which is what I am after.
Would TechTool Pro detect a bad HD or RAM?
    Thanks....

You are referrring to how long it takes to startup your Mac?
If so, open System Preferences > General
Deselect:  Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
And remove any apps in HD > Library > Startupitems
Make sure there's at least 15% free space on the startup disk.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac then click More Info then select the Storage tab from the menu.
If you have anti virus software installed, disable or uninstall the software to see if that makes a difference.

  • Safari and firefox 'cannot find the server' for every other page that i navigate to, unless I turn Wifi off and on. How do I fix this?

Safari and firefox 'cannot find the server' for every other page that i navigate to, unless I turn Wifi off and on. Once i reconnect to the network, the page loads, but after loading a few more pages, the same thing happens all over again.
This happens each and every time, on different Wifi networks, in different locations.  On the other hand, I don't ever encounter this problem when I tether my laptop to my mobile phone's 3g/2g network using Personal Hotspot. How do I fix this?

    Try this DNS server ...
Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS
    Click + and type:
    208.67.222.222
Click + again and do the same.
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
Quit and relaunch both your browsers to test.
If that doesn't help, try here >  iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

is there any way to find my lost/stolen ipod if find my ipod is not turned on?

    Only the old fashioned way
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

Like any other computer, the iPhone can sometimes have a weird glitch or hiccup.  It's part of technology.  As long as the reset gets you back up and running, then you're good to go.
