32Bit Eclipse, 32Bit JRockit, 64Bit Windows OS - Maximum  Heap Space.

Hi:
My 32Bit Eclipse application tends to run out of heap space on big files. I have been using Sun JRE 6. JVM.
Using the Sun JRE 6 JVM the maximum heap size I can achieve is 1.3GB
My machine has 8GB of physical memory.
I'm wondering if there is any advantage in moving to JRockit.
1. Willl the 32Bit JRocket JVM enable me to have more heap space on 64Bit Windows XP.
2. If (1) is possible what are some aggressive settings I can use to maxmiise heap space.
Thanks
Mark

We run 2.75 GB ( -jrockit -Xms2816m -Xmx2816m ) in production all the time with 32-bit JRockit on Windows 2003 Server 64-bit. I had hoped to get it to 3.25 GB, but we occasionally run out of native memory and have to back down the heap size to 2.75 GB. I look into it when I get more time. Remember to set your min and max memory equal.
The max your process can consume is 4GB (max addressable memory with 32-bits), so your JVM memory + Heap memory can't go over 4GB. If you use JRockit Mission Control, you can connect to the JVM and monitor the size of your virtual address space (looking at Mem Usage in Windows Task Manager kind of works too). I'd start with these JVM args:
+(all args should be on one line)+
-jrockit -Xms2816m -Xmx2816m
-Xmanagement:ssl=false,authenticate=false,port=7091
Connect to it with the jrmc.exe program in your JRockit bin directory and you can get a pretty good idea what is happening in the JVM. Also, if you haven't already, download the latest JRockit (google: JRockit download).
Hope that gets you started so you can check out JRockit...

I need to move a schema over from a 32-bit windows machine to a 64-bit windows machine.
    both machines are network mapped,
    so
I exp it out from 32 machine
copy and paste from 32 to 64 machines
    then imp into 64 machine
    and get this error
IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification
    IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully
    machine oracle utilities are:
    Export: Release 10.2.0.1.0
    Import: Release 10.2.0.1.0
    help please.

Are you using original exp/imp or data pump?
exp/imp should be able to handle 32bit to 64bit transport.
It's either your dump file got corrupted during transfer.
Or your database server is not same version as your utilities. Please verify and post your Oracle server version.

  • 32bit and 64bit Windows and Lookout

I have two versions of Lookout - 6.0 and 6.6. I am trying to install them on Windows 7/64bit version and find that when I install them, they do not start up at all. I click on the icon and nothing happens. Is this because these versions of Lookout can run only on 32bit version of Windows 7? Or is this another problem entirely?

Hi, I am having problems running Lookout V6.7 on a Windows 64bit machine.
The problem is actually once installed, my laptop will no longer boot up properly.  I have a Panasonic Toughbook, CF-53 with a 512 SSD, 16GB RAM.  The laptop will boot up and then sits at the "Please Wait" bit before you get to CTL - ALT - Delete to login.
I think there is an NI service that is not starting up properly.  Once Lookout and all NI software was uninstalled, it seemed to start ok.
Funny thing is, once booted up (using Windows Safe Mode without Networking), I could generally restart the laptop and it would be ok, but if it was shutdown and then booted up later it wouldn't reboot.
Any one have any ideas on this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • NAC HW Check- 32bit vs 64bit Windows

Good evening - We are running NAC 4.7.1 and are preparing to roll-out an OOB deployment to manage our Catalyst switch ports for our wired workstations. We have our rules/requirements set up and working to check for Mac OSx, Windows-All, or Linux, and the associated role-requirements for each. Our question is: can you have a logical expression in a requirement to check the hardware platform type for Windows?
We are starting to deploy WinXP and Win7 on 64-bit systems, but our requirements need to be modified to reflect the current 6 rules if it's a WinXP 32-bit vs the 3 rules that we can have if it's a WinXP 64-bit.ie -> If WinXP 32-bit check rules 1,2,3,4,5,6 but if it's WinXP 64-bit check rules 1,2,3 only. The rule differences are because the specific rule-based checks are software installation checks and not all of our software is available for 64-bit platforms
There is a 'canned' registry check for the hardware platform type, but how does the logic flow?
    Thanks,
    Doug

    1.  yes, if you have a 64 bit os, both will install
    2.  bridge is included with various other adobe programs at no extra charge.
    3.  no, all adobe cc software is download only.
    4.  any one user can install and activate adobe programs on, up to, two computers concurrently.  both cannot be used at any one moment.
    so,
if there are 3 users on 3 computers, you need 3 licenses.
if there are two users on 3 computers, you need 2 licenses.
and if there is one user, in the most common scenarios (they are not using all 3 or 2 of the 3 computers at any one time) one license is sufficient, but you'll need to repeatedly deactivate the programs on, at least, one of the 3 computers.

  • Plug-in max heap space for IE on Windows Vista

    G'day,
The organisation I work for will be moving from Windows 2000 to Windows Vista later this year.
We'll be including JRE6 as part of the standard desktop installation :-)
Ahead of that I'd like to know the default maximum heap-space configuration for JRE6 running in IE7 on Windows Vista.
    Elsewhere I've read it's as low as 64M (!)
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=30&threadID=5168556
If it's this low I'll need to make sure our JRE6 install is tweaked to increase its max heap space (-Xmx)
    Thanks,
    Chris.

    Hi Kenneth,
It is not necessarily for posting if you feel this write-up is too detailed. First I want to let you know that I am a novice just trying to help MYSELF, JAVA and others with the same or similar problem. This is going to be a very long post, just like one you (kbrussel) posted about this problem. I realize it may be unnecessary but maybe HARDWARE could be the problem so I listed all my hardware. More Data is better than LESS data I feel!
Background: I have the identical problems on 2 different Gateway Models over almost a year.
System # 01 is an Older Gateway Computer 838GM (Media Center) Pentium 4 - 630 HT Processor 3.0 GHz/2MB Cache, 1.536 GB of RAM (1.49GB Recognized) PC3200 with 800 MHz FSB and 200 GB Hard Drive running Windows XP Media Center 2002 SP2 with all latest updates (Actually I was told it is XP Professional plus additional programs for media) and a GMA900 on-board Video outputting to a Gateway EV700 CTR Monitor using a Linksys Cable Modem Model: BEFCMU10 Version 4.0 and Comcast Broadband ISP for Internet Connection.
System # 02 is a Newer Gateway Computer GM5457E (Media Center) Core 2 Duo Processor E6320 1.86 GHz per CPU Core @ 1066 MHz FSB/4MB Cache, 4.096 GB of RAM (3.405216GB Available to Windows) PC5400 with Intel 945G Chip Set, a SATA II 500 GB Hard Drive running Windows Vista Home Premium V 6.0 (Build 6000) and an NVIDIA GE Force 7500LE Video Card outputting DVI to a new Acer AL2223W HDLCD 22" Monitor using a Linksys Cable Modem Model: BEFCMU10 Version 4.0 and Comcast Broadband ISP for Internet Connection.
I am a high volume quick trading new "day trader" (actually a "minute" trader) and I have been having an "EXTREEME" problem over the past 10 months, maybe longer, with my older and my newer computer SYSTEMS of locking up (looping, I think, nothing using JAVA seems to work, totally locked) when running JAVA based TD Ameritrades "Command Center 2.0". During early very FAST trading minutes (usually 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM) with all functions (limited to 6 each functions each by TD Ameritrade), maybe 20-28 windows working at the same time. I use "Charts, Last Sales, Level II, Watch Lists, Trade Tickets, Actives", as a "DAY-TRADER". The JAVA plug-in providing "streaming" data to my older computer was unreliable, always locking-up. I bought a totally new computer system after I was told by TD Ameritrade TECHNICAL that "IT COULD BE MY OLDER COMPUTER". I bought a new computer, and the same problem, lock-up on this computer with CPU usage between 52% and 59%. I have spent over 12 hours with many different TD Ameritrade technicians trying to help me. I have tried both foxfire and IE and problem is on both. I place a buy order trade and then I need to sell it in less than a minute some times. I can not afford for JAVA to lock up on me for any number of SECONDS while I am trading, and JAVA has done that to me so many times I cant count. By the time that I "End Task" and then re-open my account I can be down (LOST) several thousand dollars. This only happens when the market is trading furiously and JAVA cant keep up, at least on my computer. I have tried all modification fixes that TD Ameritrade technicians have given me, and some on your blog http://forum.java.sun.com/profile.jspa?userID=523605), and some fixes from other sites that have been recommended, but I still fear that the problem is "not fixed". I have set -Xmx to "-Xmx100m" and Temp Internet Files to 100 MB. This has worked so far for me all day today but the stock market was not TOO busy and I did not have my second trading account up as I usually do. I think the problem is amplified when the "Market Volume" is very high, meaning that the data is constantly streaming so fast that either JAVA or my computer cannot keep up. I also noticed that there is a totally new version of JAVA (http://www.java.net/download/jdk6/6u10/promoted/b11/binaries/jre-6u10-ea-bin-b11-windows-i586-p-24_jan_2008.exe), do you think I should try this version?? , I had version 6 I think rev.4 a while ago and it failed too. Is this version 6 newer than a month or so ago ??? I am now running 1.6.0 (build 1.6.0_03-b05)
I have not tried all solutions on you list of "ALL" but this fix seems to work so far, that is I set parameters to -Xmx100m works for me so far, just one day. I will let you know of new failures or continuing good operation,
Thanks Russ Bower [email protected] I NEED THIS JAVA program TO WORK RELIABLY. Also it seems to be a problem on SCOTT Trade also from a blog I visited, several people claiming it is a JAVA bug.

Having resolved this using the 1.5 instead of 1.4 connection another issue came up, which the thread at http://forums.bea.com/thread.jspa?threadID=600016837 helped me resolve. I found the port required by using netstat on the production machine. I am now able to use the console in Mission Control. However I am still not able to connect using MemLeak or start a JRA recording the followin stacktrace is from trying to start memleakdetector via MissionControl in Eclipse.
Thanks in advance for any hints to this problem.

  • Windows Vista 32bit or 64bit?

Which is better for my new mac book pro, Windows Vista 32bit or 64bit Ultimate? All I care about is all of my programs and games working properly. And what does 86x mean? Will one version of the bits work faster than the other?

    Hi Konnexion,
There is another more important limit with 32-bit versions of Windows, and that is the limit of 2 GBS of RAM per process. Unless some tricks and tweaks are used (which can result in reduced stability), no matter how much physical RAM is installed, a single application can't use more than 2 GBs. This is important for applications that can use large amounts of RAM like video and picture rendering apps, and even some games these days (particularly in Vista).
On the other hand, the 64-bit version of Vista has a number of additional security enhancements over the 32-bit version, such as address-space layout randomization, mandatory driver signing. If you have the RAM (at least 4GBs) and games are not a priority, I would actually recommend using the 64-bit version. Of course, why would you be using Boot Camp, if it weren't for games LOL?

    1)how to take backup?
    2)how to upgrade oracle version?

How big is the database ? How much downtime can you afford ? One option is to install 10.2.0.1 on the target, apply the 10.2.0.4 patch, create an empty instance on target, then export the database from the source and import into target.
Pl be aware that 10.2.0.1 thru 10.2.0.4 are on sustaining support and 10.2.0.5 is on extended support (if you have paid the extended support fees). Why not upgrade to 11gR2 ?

  • 32bit Oracle on Windows 2008 64bit ?

Firstly, sorry, but this is an elementary question...which versions/combinations of Windows Server 2008 and Oracle 10gR2 are "officially" supported ?
    I understand that Oracle 64bit 10.2.0.4 is supported for 64bit Windows Server 2008 R1 (SP1 or SP2).
    Similarly 32bit 10.2.0.4 on 32bit Windows Server 2008 R1 (SP1 or SP2).
Is 10.2.0.4 supported for Windows Server 2008 R2, which I understand is 64bit only ?
Is there any support (or even a mechanism) for running a 32bit version of 10.2.0.4 on a 64bit Windows Server 2008 (R1 or R2) ?
For example, we were able to get a 32bit ODBC stack connect to a 64bit instance of 10.2.0.4 on a 64bit Windows Server 2008 R1 machine....I'm realizing with our product we may need to support a 32bit 10.2.0.4 instance. Obviously not desirable or even logical, but a necessary stopgap. But I'm thinking while it is possible to get certain 32bit apps to run in a 64bit OS, I'm not sure Oracle can.
Any info, insights etc would be much appreciated. Am happy to rtfm if anyone can pass me references...

Is 10.2.0.4 supported for Windows Server 2008 R2, which I understand is 64bit only ?If i am remember correctly - no. But 10g R2 ist certified for Windows 2008.
Is there any support (or even a mechanism) for running a 32bit version of 10.2.0.4 on a 64bit Windows Server 2008 (R1 or R2) ?Mixing architectures (o/s and database) is not supported in any way.

At the moment i am unable to login to metalink but as long as it is client-only you can use the 32-bit client on 64-bit operating system fully supported.

  • What is the best way to update Windows 7 Boot from 32bit to 64bit?

I'm sure this has been answered a number of times, but I can't quite seem to get a search query that takes me where I want to be. Here's the issue.
I have a Macbook Pro 15" Early 2011. I just put 8GB of RAM in it, replacing the stock 4GB. I use Boot Camp to run Windows 7 32bit, which can only use so much of the 8GB RAM (2.16 useable). I've read around and understand I'll need to update to 64bit Windows. What's the most painless way to do this with Boot Camp that will preserve all my files on the Windows 7 boot.
Thank you for your help in advance.

    radioactivepal wrote:
So, I should back up Windows 7 while in Windows or should I do that with Boot Camp? I'm a bit confused about the process in general.
You can not 'upgrade' 32bit Windows to 64bit 'inplace'. You will need to perform a custom install, this will erase you existing 32bit installation entirely. Then you can install the 64bit version and all your programs.
How much Ram do you have?
Sorry about that question, I read slower than I type
Don't forget to make a full backup of your Windows files before you start the installation, they will not be there after you finish.

  • I want to buy windows 7 to download on my iMac but don't know if I need a 32bit or 64bit for parallels

How do i know which,32bit or 64bit windows7 to buy for my iMac with parallels desktop. I just got my 21.5" iMac Dec. 2011 .Intel 2.5ghz but I don't see any 32bit or 64bit info for the system anywhere or if it matters.

    Home/Pro 32-bit address 3.5 GB memory.
Home 64-bit Pro addresses 16 GB memory.
Pro 64-bit addresses 192 GB memory.  And 64-bit Pro has XP mode just in case you need it.
You dedicate a certain amount of memory to Parallels VM, and you have a machine that can install at least 16 GB memory.  So you can actually dedicate 8 GB RAM, and thus exceed and 32-bit Windows OS ability.
In short ... to avoid re-buying Windows 7 in the future, and get XPmode, and address more than 3.5 GB RAM any time I want to ... buy 64-bit Pro once.

    Hi Kossa,
You can also check if the issue occurs in
Clean Boot. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, you can continue to narrow down which entry is causing the issue.
    Besides, uninstall it and re-download
a fresh copy of FireFox to check the result. If the issue still exists, create a new user account to see if it occurs.
If the issue persists, you can contact Mozilla Support directly and use Internet Explorer (IE) during the time.

    Hi O_H_I_O,
Have you got an error code ?
Considering it is a brand new machine ,please update the machines .To get a better performance of the machines ,we should always keep it up to date .
There is a possibility that the DVD/CD-ROm drives driver is old or has corrupted .Please open the device manager , update or reinstall the driver to have a check.
Apart from this ,we can run the built-in tool to a diagnostic :
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\All Categories\Hardware and Devices
We also can run the following fixit tool to have a check.
Fix problems with CD or DVD drives that can’t read or write media
