32K ActionScript Limit

Regarding the following FAQ:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flexfaq.html#itemA-24
I need a little clarification.
I want to implement the suggested fix of putting in extra
code to force the compiler to break at a different place. However,
I wanted to know, if anyone has experience with it, whether this
hack will be a long-term solution, or will we be constantly needing
to change the amount of extra code as the number of options on the
form in question grows.
This is an Intranet application built in ColdFusion Flash
Forms.

Tracy,
Thanks for the response. I was afraid that was going to be
the answer.
We are still on Flex 1.5 in this particular situation because
we are using ColdFusion's "Flash Forms" feature to generate the
code. Unfortunately, Adobe used Flex 1.5 within ColdFusion to
create this feature; and it has not been upgraded. As far as I
know, there are no plans to ever upgrade this feature in
ColdFusion. That probably isn't a bad thing, since the feature is
very limited on a number of levels.
We do our real Flex work in 2.0, soon to be 3.0. This was a
"quick and dirty" project with "simple" use cases and requirements
that grew into something that is now kinda stretching the linits of
what can be done without using real Flex.

  • Input pattern or replacement parameters exceed 32K size limit

    Hi,
    Following is my code
    declare
    v_clob1 clob := empty_clob;
    v_clob2 clob := empty_clob;
    begin
    select result into v_clob2 from evex_output_copy where evex_output_uid = 1;
    v_clob1 := 'a';
    v_clob1 := replace(v_clob1, 'a', v_clob2);
    end;
    the length of v_clob2 is greater than 32K.
    It shows the following error.
    input pattern or replacement parameters exceed 32K size limit
    How can I solve this ?

  • Hitting the 32k size limit with Keyword Expansion in packages

    Hi!
    I am hitting the 32k size limit with Keyword Expansion (KE). It is hardcoded in the procedure jr_keyword.analyze_mlt.
    Are there any plans to get rid of this limit, so package bodies with size > 32000 bytes can be expanded?

    Well, I am making progress. With a combination if utl_tcp.get_line() - to trap the header and utl_tcp.get_text - to get the data at 32K chunks - which I then put into a CLOB or VARRAY of VARCHAR2; I can get as much data as is sent.
    The problem now is speed.
    It takes over 60 seconds to get 160K (5 32K chunks) of data when I put it into the VARRAY of VARCHAR2, and it takes even longer if I use dbms_lob.write() and dbms_lob.writeappend() to store the data.
    Am I doing something wrong? Is there another way?
    Thank You for any Help.

  • 32k Rowsize Limit (ORA-006502) for Report Query Shared Objects in Apex 4.1

    We're trying to move legacy reports off of PlanetPress into Apex. One of the report queries has over 20 tables and attempting to run with the "Test Report" button in the Edit Report Query screen gets the error message:
    Error ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    This problem appears to have been characterized previously here:
    Listener Error - character string buffer too small (ORA-06502)
    If I comment out 13 lines/items in my SELECT clause, the Test Report runs okay. If I add back in an innocuous literal sellect of a 100-character string, it goes back to the 6502 error.
    I was trying to add more literal strings to force APEX to shift internally from a 32k-limit to a CLOB for the row, however, with a 32k literal string in my SQL statement, APEX crashes. I can't strip out columns from my SQL as all are needed for the report.
    I would very much appreciate a work-around or a patch to Apex 4.1 to address this limitation. Thank you.

    Try moving some of your select logic into a view, thus you can select from the views and reduce your code... (Move the joining between tables and such to the view..)
    Thank you,

  • Help to overcome 32K XML limit for Anychart  Map

    Hello,
    Apex version 4.2.0.00.27
    I am creating a heat map using the Anychart maps and have chosen to use the "Use custom XML" option in the Map Attributes to control the map being generated. However, I have hit a 32K limit for 'Custom XML' that is being passed to the Map.
    A sample of the XML is:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <anychart>
    <charts>
    <chart plot_type="Map">
    <b>&P_MAPXML.</b>
    <palettes>
    </palettes>
    </chart>
    </charts>
    </anychart>
    I am using a procedure to generate the required XML and have created an Application Item (P_MAPXML) to hold the data. When P_MAPXML along with the enclosing XML is less than 32K then map dispalys correctly. If the XML generated is more than 32K then an error occurs as it truncates P_MAPXML and the Custom XML is no longer well formed.
    There is a workaound via an old thread AnyChart gantt with custom xml and more then 32k but I was wondering is there a more upto date solution.

    Thanks Hiliary,
    I soldiered on before I saw your reply.
    I basically wanted an example of the minimum necessary to display an Anychart Map via the javascript method as there seemed to be issues with the examples that were on the forums not least assuming that every step was understood.
    Anyway below I have put steps together just to display an Anychart Map and then along with your example above or the others from the Forum it can be customized to display dynamic data.
    1. Create a new page within Apex
    i) Under Application choose Create Page -> Blank Page -> Page Alias - (type: WorldMap) -> Name (type: World Map) -> ->Finish
    2) Click Edit Page
    3) Right Click on Region , Choose Create -> Click PL/Sql Dynamic Content ->Title (type: World Map) ->
    Under Pl/SQL Source cut and paste the following:
    <pre>
    htp.prn('<textarea cols="500" rows="100" id="rowData" style="display:none">');
    htp.prn('<anychart>
    <charts>
    <chart plot_type="Map">
    <chart_settings>
    <title enabled="true"><text>World Map</text></title>
    <chart_background enabled="false"/>
    <data_plot_background enabled="false"/>
    </chart_settings>
    <data_plot_settings>
    <map_series source="world/world.amap">
    <projection type="Mercator" centroid_x="10.4515266418457" centroid_y="51.1656913757324"/>

    If all is well it shoulld display the World Map, just be careful with the div tag line as that will need to added manually.
    As said previously, there's lots of help on the forums about creating the dynamic content but this should be a good place to start, having a map that will display using that method.

  • 32K HTML Row Limit - (follow up)

    Hi,
    I've run into this problem, specifically with select lists containing a large number of entries as part of a report in html db v 1.5. I've found numerous posts about this, for example :
    32k limit in some regions types
    I'm curious if the HTML DB team was able to address this in the 2.0 release?
    Thanks
    Matt

    Matt,
    There are two different 32k limits. One is the number of characters that can be edited within a text area. For example, if you’re editing SQL query regions, PL/SQL regions or processes, etc., we’re constrained by the underlying modplsq component, as Joel pointed out. This issue has been addressed in the HTML DB 2.0 SQL Workshop. You can now edit SQL Scripts that are longer than 32k characters; you can also edit PL/SQL objects (packages, functions, procedures, triggers) that are longer than 32k characters, using the Object Browser. You’re still limited to less then 32k characters in the Application Builder, we’re planning on addressing this in HTML DB 3.0.
    The second case where you have a 32k character limit is when working with select lists, and this seems to be the problem you’re referring to. A select list, including all the options, is stored in a 32k long varchar2 variable. So if you have a very large number of options, you can potentially exceed that limit. In this case I would recommend using a popup LOV instead.

  • SAP MDX statement size limit ???

    Hi all,
    we are developing complex stuff with MDX and now the question comes up, if there is any limit in the MDX statement size in SAP Abap world. The main handler classes are CL_RSR_MDX_COMMAND, CL_RSR_MDX_OLAP_REQUEST does anyone here know if there is a limit in the MDX statement size ???
    Thx a lot !

    Not sure on the MDX but from a OLAP statement point of view - a straight SQL against an Oracle tablehas a limit of 32k and in unicode 64k
    I am seeing some interesting scenarios when SQLs are fired through the application and not direct..
    A select with multiple in clauses will first try and do a between on the SIDs - if that fails it will build an in clause..
    On the phsical level the SQL is partitioned up and fired mutliple times (obviously to get aroudn the 32k/64k limit)
    However in a virtual cube scenario - a function module can only call 200-250 (hard coded!) statements on an in clause - you can override this but risk a database error on too long a SQL statement..
    THis may or may not help.. but it's all background

  • Editing and uploading a downloaded document

    Have an application that allows for both uploads of documents (using a File Browse item and transferring the relevant fields from the HTMLDB_APPLICATIION_FILES view to my customized table) and downloads of documents (using a call via a URL to a customized copy of the Oracle download procedure presented in the sample application). Both the upload and download process work OK.
    The issue I'm running into, is that when a user wants to download a document, the user is presented with the choice of opening or saving the downloaded document. That works OK, but what we'd really like to do is offer the user a chance to edit the downloaded document and then by saving the changes (such as by closing the window in which the downloaded document appears, after making edits), the modified document is "re-uploaded" to the database. What we have to do now is save the download document to the user's PC, then the user has to open the document and modify it, save it, and re-upload it to the database.
    Any ideas on how we can save the users a few steps and upload the document directly after editing? Thanks.

    Well, you can only do that when the content being edited is plain text (mime type text/plain) and less than 32K (hard limit in PL/SQL)
    Looking at how that page (4000:46) is built in f4000.sql, there seem to be some APIs that do some magic
    l_text := wwv_flow_utilities.clob_to_varchar2(
      wwv_flow_utilities.blob_to_clob(p_blob=>l_blob,p_charset=>l_charset));Clearly, all these are undocumented internal-only Oracle APIs that Oracle is not obliged to support.
    Search around on asktom.oracle.com, I am sure you will find code examples that do this sort of thing.
    Hope this helps.

  • MAX_PATH length in windows server 2012 appears to be 255 Characters still

    I understand that NTFS has a 32k character limit, however windows API only supports 255 characters.
    I was reading that server 2012 was to do away with the 255 character limit and embrace NTFS 32k limit. What I am finding when creating a long path name in windows 2012 RC build 8400 is that I get a warning about long path names at about 255. I am using the
    VHD that MS supplied for the consumer.
    The path is c:\\<long name>\<long name>\<long name>\. If the <long name> is equal to 245 that is the end of the game. Once "c:\\<long name>\..." equals 255 that is the end of the game.
    My linux servers do not have this issue.
    How do I go about resolving it?
    Thanks,

    The restriction is lifted in ReFS which is part of the file server roll.

  • Checkbox Item: character string buffer too small (APEX 4.0. - 4.2.)

    Hi all,
    I'm currently running the Oracle Application Express 4.0.2 on the Oracle DB 11g and thinking about the APEX upgrading to current 4.2. version. We have there quite big application used by the inernal employees so prior I need to test, if the migration will work.
    I installed the new server with database and the APEX 4.2. and import the current application. Everything seems to working good except few checkboxes, which returns me the error: "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small."
    LOV (Source) Code of Checkbox Item:
    SELECT email as display_value, id as return_value
    FROM users
    WHERE <some conditions>;
    In the current version 4.0.2. I get the checkbox item (total count of the rows approx. 650), but in the 4.2. I get this "string buffer too small" error and the page could not be rendered (if I add to the same query limitation: "rownum<242" it will display the item).
    Could you please help me with this issue? Any idea, what I should set up in the new APEX to get the same results or you see there any limitation, why it does not work in the new version, but in the old version the same SQL works fine?
    Thank you all in advance.
    Regards,
    Tomas.

Why you are hitting this limit in the new instance may be due to differences in data or the database configuration (e.g. character set) rather than changes introduced in APEX.
    Is the data exactly the same? Is the database configuration the same? When you limit the number of rows so the checkboxes are displayed and view the page source, is there any difference in the HTML used to render the checkbox form elements between the two versions?
    That said, from a usability perspective 650 LOV options is rather a lot, and your application may very well outgrow this limit naturally in any version of APEX as more users as added. It is probably worthwhile thinking about other ways to display these options.

    The slowness you are experiencing is largely owing to the fact that the WebUtil package is running on the middle tier -- but the Jacob bean is running on the client. Loading a spreadsheet requires a lot of network I/O. To speed things up, implement your operation within a custom Java bean, in such a way that communication between the tiers is minimized. For example, write a Java class that receives all the data in one call, and understands how to write it to an Excel document. Deploy this class as a Java bean, and call it from your form as needed using FBEAN.INVOKE( ).
    The catch: passing data through PL/SQL imposes the 32K-character limit for VARCHAR2. If you cannot be certain that the data to be written can be expressed as a string of this size, you must consider introducing compression, passing the data over multiple calls, or possibly both.
    I've been working with this, using Java's GZIP libraries for compression, and Apache Axis' BASE64 function for binary-to-String conversion. Since I'm passing a complex data structure, I use open-source XStream to serialize this structure to XML, GZIP the XML string, Base64-encode and pass it along. Sounds awkward and cumbersome, but has worked fairly well so far.
    The XML step may not be needed for simple tabular data, but because GZIP minimizes the cost of wrapping every value in tags, the incredible convenience offered by XStream makes it worth at least trying. (One call to marshall, one call to unmarshall.)
    Sorry, but this is all I have time to write, at the moment -- hopefully it at least gives you an idea regarding the problem and possible solutions.

  • Workflow 2.6.3.5  - Problems with font in OA

    I have some problems with fonts in Oracle Workflow: i created a process in wf builder and a package that start the process..in the package i put a text body for the notifications with 'b' and '/b' but when i read the notification in workflow manager i cant see the bold font!! Anyone can help me?? I suppose that this problem is linked with HTML code that has to be set in some preferences menu, but i cant find it..but it may be another reason!
    Another problem that i have is that i cant disable the history window in the notification (even adding to the message the attribute #HISTORY)..
    THX for your help

    1. I am unable to understand the first problem. Please note that if you want to display HTML formatted content, you will have to use one of the following options.
    PLSQL Documents - 32K size limit
    PLSQLCLOB Documents - CLOB
    Embedded Fwk Regions - Only in Oracle Applications
    If you are specifying HTML content within Item Attributes that you want to be eventually displayed in the notification the HTML tags could be decoded and displayed as is without formatting.
    2. There is no documented way to disable the Default Action History within the notification body. You may define the Document type message attribute #HISTORY, assign a PLSQL Document API to it and return null from the Document code. This should hide the action history.
    Hope this helps.

  • Report error: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small.

    Full Details:
    report error:
    ORA-20001: Error fetching column value: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small.
    MS Access runs this query but when I try to call a 'List of Values' in APEX that is in excess of 800 the error above displays. If I use a 'Pop Up' it will work but splits the list at 500. This is annoying and slower as I would like to be able to display all 850+ items in a named list of values. How do I increase the buffer size?
    Kind Regards,
    Steve

    Steve,
    Could you please post the query you're using? You're most like hitting one of two possible varchar2 limitations. If you're calling the apex_item API in your SQL query to render the select list, then you're limited to 8000 characters, this your option values and HTML code used to render this. In this case using the "XL" versions of the APIs might help, e.g. select_list_from_query_xl, because those return CLOBs. If you're already using those or if you're using the built-in display type "select list", then you could potentially hit the 32k character limit of varchar2 values in PL/SQL. In that case the best alternative is using a popup LOV instead.

    Marc

  • Size limits

    Hi
    Can anyone tell me whether the 32k size limit on the size of an element (such as a string I mean) will be lifted on ApEx 4?
    And does the current size limit apply to collections?
    Also, is this a bug or deliberate: why don't the user interface defaultws apply field sizes appropriate to the column sizes?
    Is there a more appropriate place to lodge improvement suggestions then amongst these general questions? I've got a list. :)
