32k to 48k Audio Conversion

I'm editing promos in a 48k environment. I've taken in a promo from an ftp site.
The audio on the imported promo has 32k resolution. How do I convert the audio
to 48k?

If you do this in VirtualDub, choose Video / Direct stream copy to avoid recompression of the video, which is lossy and slower.
Choose Audio / Full processing mode and then go to Audio / Conversion…
Set samplng rate to 48000Hz and be sure to tick High Quality
Verify that Precision is 16-bit and Channels is stereo
Go to File / Save as AVI and save to a new filename
If you want to batch a bunch of clips (and be able to do so again in the future more conveniently), be sure you have set things up as above… then go to File / Save processing settings…and save the current settings as 32kHz_48kHz.vcf (for example)
To run a batch, be sure all of your source clips are in a common folder and that folder contains ONLY the .avi files you want to convert.
Go to File / Job control…
In the VirtualDub Job Control window, click Edit / Process directory and select the folder in which your clips are stored. Then choose a different folder where the new clips are to be output.
Click the Start button to process the batch entries.
If you want to perform another batch at a later date, launch VirtualDub and choose File / Load processing settings… to open your 32kHz_48kHz.vcf settings file and repeat the steps above.

Hi there,
I have to navigate through a tree of directories in which I have some .flac files and for each one I find launch a command to convert them to an iTunes recognized format (around 4000 files and a few hundred directories) possibly in the same directory where the flac file is found.
I can find the flac with the find "/Volumes/Qmultimedia/rjamusic -iname \*\.flac" command, what next ?

             operator. If the string ``{}'' appears anywhere in the utility name or the arguments it is replaced by
             the pathname of the current file. Utility will be executed from the directory from which find was exe-
             cuted. Utility and arguments are not subject to the further expansion of shell patterns and constructs.
EXAMPLE
find / -type f -exec echo {} \;
             Use the echo(1) command to print out a list of all the files.
Add whatever audio conversion utility you are using instead of echo.

I can't have a video or audio conversation

Hey,
Everytime I try to have a video or audio conversation with iChat (I just bought a MacBook), after I press the camera icon next to my friends pic, a new window pops up with my image (live from my camera) on it, saying: waiting for a response from ...
Then, after 5-10 seconds, the following phrase appears: "There was a communication error during your chat". When I click on details, here is what appears:

Error -8 normally means the ports are not open somewhere.
Your is not saying it can even find any ports open (or it is saying that it can not tell where the problem is)

IChat AV won't let me have a video/audio conversation

When I try to have a video/audio conversation, iChat says the communication couldn't be established for I have not responded to the invitation (even when I launch it).
Last year I used iChat and iSight while connected on an air port station; today, i'm using an ethernet connexion, I've tried to solve my problem by opening and closing different ports from the firewall but it doesn't work.
What can I do?

While i use youtube-dl script with -x --audio-format mp3 option i get this error:

Can only have audio conversations with other iChat AV 3.0 users

so, since i updated my ancient powerbook to 10.4, i can no longer hold audio conversations with ANYONE other than people that have iChat AV. no one on aim, trillian, iChat under 3.0.
through some digging, ive come to the conclusion that it's because my computer is outdated, slowly dying and bugging up and will be resolved when i eventually purchase a macBook. BUT, i quick fix or some information to do so would be amazing.

so ive done some investigating. before having my cable modem up and running (speedstream 5400), i was using a wireless signal in the area. i don't know what it is, i just know it's slow haha. everything worked fine. once i switched to the faster modem, i can only chat with iChat AV 3.whatever users. it's not the operating system.
i just switched from MY cable modem back to the wireless slow signal and everything works perfectly. so, what's the deal?
help please.

POV1 and AVI audio conversion problems

Hi, I have a POV1 helmet camera which records to SD card in AVI format.
I have used the suggestions here to convert the files to DV to edit in FCE4
I am also using a Sony handicam for additional footage which I import into FCE4 via firewire.
The problem I have is the audio formats are different and I have to render the POV1 clips to hear the audio.
I have used MPEG stream clip to make the 2 different media the same but I can't adjust the Audio format from 32-bit floating point (POV1) to 16-bit integer (Handycam)
Any thought on how to make the two types of audio the same so I don't have to render each time I make a change?

The bit size is not important, the sample rate. Are you converting in Streamclip to DV or to QuickTime? You need to convert to QuickTime and set the audio to uncompressed stereo 48K, assuming the audio on Handycam is also 48K. If it's 32K then set the audio in Streamclip to 32K.

I was noticing a lot of programs out there are outright pathetic
eg I have a FLAC audio file for source and I want to convert to Apple Lossless or MP3 etc
now audio is far from consistant, so I need to be able to work with all possible types like 8 and 16 bit samples and varying sample rates etc
tags are more fun, id3 is fine for mp3 files but m4a and mp4 use atoms that are not well documented either

what to Import and then select what to Export, including a variety
of formats. You'll need to download the LAME plugin that is used
for MP3.

Most of the MP3 type players such as iTunes, Rhapsody and

Python / Audio Conversion - I want to convert mp3 to wav

Hi, Ive dabbled very little in actual coding, wrote one python app that these forums really helped me make, and Ive programmed in VBScript and SQL Server, but all academic, nothing for my own uses. I need a program to convert mp3's to .wav's that can then be burned in 'Recorder' to burn the audio disc. I know there are many scripts like this floating around, but I want to do my own, problem is, im lost. I seem to have 2 main problems, getting the file names into a list or tuple, and then actually running the commands to convert using a for loop using lame or mpg321.
this bash script uses mpg321 and sox,

This works fine and I understand the code. Its saying for every file that ends in .mp3, run these commands, which do the coding. The only problem is, this doesnt work in python, since its not pythong Can someone give me a little bit of help? Dont give me the program, or give me to much info, links would be great.
1 - Need to Get Directory
2 - Loop through all the .mp3 files and add them to an array.
3 - create a sub directory named "wav"
mkdir ~/wav
4 - copy all the mp3's to "wav"
cp ARRAy to wav/
5 - convert all .mp3's to wav
6 - delete the copied mp3's from .wav directory
for .mp3
rm
7 - tell me how many wavs were created.
for .wav
count + 1
That is just a rough flow chart of what I need to do, and as you can see its pretty bare as of now. Also, I imagine to run mpg321 or lame commands, I need some sort of lame or mpg321 module? Ive read the python wiki for for loops and lists and tuples, but I need more info. Thanks, Justin.

If i remove the subprocess popen, and just print name + ext and use the counter, it prints out both file name together, and how many mp3's it processed, 2. So i know the program is doing what I want, im just converting wrong. Thanks again.

Audio Conversion

I have an older concert dvd, that I can't find an audio of. Does anyone know how to convert it to audio only (turn off the video) so I can play it in an audio playlist....or does that matter?

If you own the DVD, there is nothing wrong with ripping the audio for your personal use. The labels may claim otherwise, but nobody has ever been prosecuted for doing so. I'd recommend WireTap Pro, which is (now) a free download from Ambrosia.

Audio conversions for iTunes

I have wma files that I want to add to my iTunes library. Is the free version of 'Adapter' safe to add mp3/wma files to iTunes?

It uses FFmpeg, which you will have to download and install as well, to do conversions, and FFmpeg has been around a long time and is well proven. You can certainly give it a try. At worst it may just not convert successfully.

PAL to NTSC audio conversion?

I have converted my PAL video to NTSC but the audio was mixed separately and so it's still set at 25fps and hence becomes out of sync when I lay it against the video track.
So how do I convert the separate audio.aiff files from 25fps to 30fps?

audio doesn't really have a frame rate. I understand from reading other posts that fcp (and/or) quicktime may associate a frame rate with an audio file, but there should be a way to remove this association. Maybe try running the audio file thru compressor? If you want to send me a short section of the audio file, I'll see what I can do. My email is in my profile.
I seem to remember there being something about importing the audio file into a new fcp project with an default easy setup with the correct frame rate. Not sure about this.

There are several different incompatible media sold as writeable CDs. You MUST match the media to the abilities of your drive.
I was flummoxed by buying 8x media when my drive was a 2x drive. I needed the other type, and there was nothing helpful in the diagnostics or the packaging that helped me understand that.

Audio conversion taking forever

Picture this. Three rendering servers. All identical dual CPU's, all 12GB RAM, all Windows 7 64-bit. When I convert a 5.1 AC3 file to WMA, two of them will convert it in about 6 minutes. About a 2 hour length file. The third will start out showing
about the same timeframe, but will slowing increment up. Ends up taking about 2 1/2 hours to convert the file which is crazy. Doesn't take that long for the associated video to be converted 2-pass. Any idea what's happening here?
Basically WMA video, 1-pass, 5.1, 640Kbps, 24-bit.
