3D acceleration problems only in specific applications

Since I installed Arch Linux, I never managed to get some 3D applications to work correctly, although I know my laptop can handle them. To be more precise, stuff like Celestia, Eternal Lands, Flight Gears have abysmal performance (with about one frame produced per 2-3 s, whereas Warzone 2100 is quite smooth. World of Goo is also fast, but perhaps it does not require any acceleration to get there.
Recently I was flabbergasted to see that Runescape, a browser based RPG with a 3D arena was actually quite fluid in my firefox. So I really have the impression that something is very wrong on the software side of things (SDL?), but I'm not sure where to start to look. Any suggestions?

I installed enemy-territory, and it's extremely fluid, no problems at all. This issue really concerns a (large) subset of applications

First of all, I would like to mention that Glest, MegaGlest and Nexuiz are also GPU accelerated.

Pdf printing problem encountered in specific applications in the workspace.

Hi,
I am experiencing this problem which i am not able to figure out.
After installing and configuring the BI publisher, for the newer applications i develop printing option works fine.
But for the applications which were already present in the workspace before installing BI Publisher, when I press the download button(which should branch to the url specified in the report query), it is directed to the specified url but the page is blank. I do not get any pdf attachment for downloading.
Could that be a problem in configuring the BI Publisher?

Following information might help you to resolve the issue.
An Acrobat PDF document generated from Web Intelligence XI Release 2 does not print correctly from some older Xerox printers. Some of the cells do not display the data that is there.
Business Objects 5.1.x uses the PDF v1.2 conversion engine. BusinessObjects XI Release 2 uses PDF v1.5. Therefore, the fonts are rendered as TrueType in the resulting PDF file. To confirm this, open the PDF in Acrobat Reader and click File > Document Properties > Font tab.
A PDF generated from BusinessObjects 5.1.x will have the font type as Type 1. A PDF generated from BusinessObjects XI Release 2 will have the font type as TrueType.
As per the product group, it states that this is by design, as there can be other regression issues for using the older PDF conversion engine and Type 1 fonts.
The printing problem has not been reported with newer printers.

Audio problem only with some application and with games

Some days my ipad2 presents this problem: audio is ok with itunes and when I look a video on youtube but it not work when I use some app (for example, Sky Go, app for cinema to look trailer) or with games.
What should I do?

If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

Change/Set permissions for specific application?!

I have at least one application that always enables GPS although it isn't needed --> more power consumption, I don't know why it is doing this. Additionally I have some applications I don't want to have access to the internet (at least if I'm not connected to Wifi).
On the other hand I have a java application that should have access to GPS and mobile data without asking every time for the permission.
Where/How can I achieve this? Why have some applications always to ask when others have permissions for things they don't need for proper function?

According to the best of my knowledge you can only access suite settings and change them according to your preferences for certain applications only. To be able to do so, go to Menu> Settings> Installations> Already Installed the open it. From there, you can only change specific application settings and I know mostly java applications use this method. To check on which applications that you can access and change the settings place your finger to the desired application and hold it and when you see suite settings then you can change it settings. Usually when you hold to an application there is view details and delete but when you see the extra option that is suite settings then open suite settings and change them to your preferences.

Security question - restricting access to a specific application

Hello,
Looking for suggestions on how I could limit connections to a database to a specific application. Here is the scenario.
I have an application running from a desktop that has oracle accounts for each user. The user has a read only role by default that I cannot alter. This means that the user can use excel (for example) and bypass the application to look at sensitive data.
I know I can lock down the desktop, remove excel, etc, etc. However, I'm looking for other options that could be used, be it process, additional Oracle software (the database is 10R2 enterprise edition), etc.
Problems: The app doesn't identify itself internally. I can see the program, but that is easily faked so thus unreliable.
Any suggestions at all?

I'll look at VPD again, but don't think the vendor will support us if we do.

exactly - dont want toad, excel, sql*plus, whatever accessing the db from the same host.
thought above secure app roles as well, but need something concrete that I could validate agianst. If the app could call it and supply that, great but I cannot alter the application. I'm using secured app roles in an in house app and it does work well.
looking with our ti staff about encapsulating the application communication through a secure vpn tunnel into the data zone. may be an option as all other connections would not make it through the firewall into the data zone. (everything is internal, just to be segmented).

I have been using the iPhone 4S for about a year and I never had problems untill a few days back. Since about a week, my 3G settings for applications installed automatically reset.
Path >> iPhone screen >> Settings >> Mobile(Cellular) >> Use Mobile Data For >> "List of all apps installed"
Against each application, you have an option to either enable / disable the mobile data usage:
Eg:
App Store          (swipe left to disable || swipe right to enable)
Contacts          (swipe left to disable || swipe right to enable)
Facebook          (swipe left to disable || swipe right to enable)
Facetime          (swipe left to disable || swipe right to enable)
Weather          (swipe left to disable || swipe right to enable)
You Tube          (swipe left to disable || swipe right to enable)
etc...
Problem:
If I don't want You Tube to use mobile data, I would normally swipe left to disable thus the application will not start / stream any music if its on 3G/4G. Since a few days, whenever I disable the option for any app... go back to the main screen and recheck the settings, I see its enabled again!
The error I see when I start the app is:
MOBILE DATA IS TURNED OFF FOR "YOU TUBE"
You can turn on mobile data for this app in settings
<Settings>     <OK>
When I go back to settings... I see the option is enabled.
Now I dont know what and how this happened all of a sudden. I have tried resetting the network settings for my iPhone, and it has not helped me.
My iPhone is updated to OS 7.0.4 and all apps are updated.
Anyone can help me on this error and how do I fix this?
FYI... I have no problems connecting to WiFi at all!

All jobs are finished successfully in a day but only at specific time its getting failed.
Recently we have upgrade the support package of SAP_BASIS & SAP_ABP from 05 to 13. After then we are getting this error message.

Error analysis
    On account of a branch in the program

    or a transaction call, another ABAP/4 program
    is to be loaded, namely "RSORA811".
    However, program "RSORA811" does not exist in the library.
    Possible reasons:
    a) Wrong program name specified in an external PERFORM or
       SUBMIT or, when defining a new transaction, a new
       dialog module or a new function module.
    b) Transport error
How to correct the error
    Check the last transports to the R/3 System.
    Are changes currently being made to the program "RSCOLL00"?
    Has the correct program been entered in table TSTC for Transaction " "?

If any job is failing at a particular time, you should look for other changes happening in you system.
Perhaps, any other job running causing problems.

Finding the backup of a specific application

Hello, I recently had a problem with an application that crashed randomly then wouldn't load back up again without crashing again. Restoring a backup fixed this problem and reverted my application back a few days (when I made the backup). But if this happens again, I would like to attempt to pull the data from this specific application alone and send it to the developers to possibly assist them in finding and fixing the problem. I've located the backups but none of the names correspond to any IDs or tokens that have to do with the application at all. I've even tried reading the plist files but they contained nothing that I could decipher. Is there any way or suggestion on what I could do to figure out which files belong to that application?

There is an app that comes with Toast 9 called, 'Get Back Up'. It is a good back up app that allows to back up specific folders. There are countless more back up apps, but I don't know of any that will operate like Time Machine backing up specific folders. You would have to do it manually. However, from your post I'm concluding your back up drive is only for Time Machine and not partitioned. This will create issues for you if you intend to use that drive for general data back up. You really only need around 250GB (or three times your internal hard drive) for Time Machine. If you want to back up your images and files separately on the same drive you will have to erase and partition the external drive to accommodate them. Also, I never rely solely on hard drives for image back up. They are way too precious. I always burn them to DVD or CD to be sure. You never know when a hard drive will fail, but DVDs and CDs have a shelf life of up to ten years if stored correctly, which is, stored vertically in hard case and in a dark, dry, cool place. - I've always wondered why Apple supplies their system restore discs in those stupid paper folders. They are disc killers!

Route an specific application through a proxy

I'm trying to route all the conections from an specific application through a proxy (HTTP) with user authentication.
The application doesn't have an option for this.
I know I can do this in two ways. The first one is modify the network configuration in the System Preferences, however, this affects all the connections, which I don't want.
The second method is using a third-party software: Proxifier, but it is too expansive for what I think can be done naturally by the system.
Is there another method, preferably free, to do this? Something in Terminal or similar?

I am probably making a Windoze exe from the class files, since the target users are all using Windoze. Does this have any effect on the question?
I would avoid it on general principles.
There are a couple of things to consider:

it in a servlet engine. If you are doing this for a
job, you might find that employer policies prohibit
the use of web server resources for batch processing.Not a batch job, the application is basically a server itself. It is going to have request coming in on a port and it is going to respond. I am not trying to do this without the knowledge of the server admin. They are willing to let me run the server app. The only thing is that I need not tell them every time I want to stop/start the server app since the web server is at a remote location from where I am. If I can start/stop the server remotely, it saves them the trouble.
I can also use this interface to monitor the error log, etc...

3) The only place that SimpleSerial class could be, that the JRE would find, is in the root of aeon.jar. Is it actually there?

Install failure due to "faulty DVD" problem: only with Family Pack?

After going through a few threads on the subject of installation failure due to tbe pseudo-faulty DVD, I have the impression that many users mention that they were using a Family Pack install DVD or in one case a "drop in". The former is my case. Please post if you have had this problem with Leopard install, and whether you were using a single licence, family pack or drop in. It's just a hunch, but perhaps this problem only affects a specific set of disks.

I believe that they are holding back on sending a new DVD until they know why there were defective ones. I read somewhere that they require a new SKU so that they will actually be a separate batch.
Can you borrow a DVD from anyone to install Leopard? You certainly would be allowed to legally do that. I am surmising that Apple is overloaded with requests for a replacement DVD and really want to make sure it works. You know that old thing about "fool me once..."
Stuff happens - but with Leopard, a lot of stuff sure happened at once. They sold 2 million DVDs. If only 5% have problems, that's a lot of problems to deal with, one at a time.
In time it will sort itself out, but in the meantime the rooms are full of smoke

Finder only shows one application at a time...

Hi all,
Hopefully someone can shed light on my dilemma.
After a system crash today I'm having problems in the Finder.
I can only have one application visible on screen at a time.
When I click the Desktop the Finder and any windows there come forward and the previous application is hidden.
If I'm in Safari and click the iCal icon in the Dock iCal comes forward and Safari is hidden.
Icons on the desktop are visible at all times and can be clicked / opened etc.
The only way to have other app windows on screen is to go to the Application Menu and choose "Show All". Clicking a window in another application hides everything again.
Hide "App Name" / Hide Others are both greyed out and I can't use Cmd-H to hide an app either.
I've deleted prefs for everything I can think of (Desktop, Dock, Finder) and opened most com.apple. prefs up to find a flag that's been tripped somewhere but to no avail.
It's acting like the old Mac OS where you could have this as an option in the General Settings Control Panel (from memory...)
Safe Boot didn't help whilst logging into my other users show none of the symptoms. Obviously It's something in my log in that is causing the problem but I don't know where else to look!
Any help is greatly appreciated.

It appears to be a FW problem, possibly flaky case, or drive problem.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
