3rd Party JDBC Driver in IAS6

Hi,
I set up a third-party JDBC driver on iPlanet App Server 6.0 SP3 Test Drive
on WinNT 4.0. I then ran HelloDB against a data source pointing to this JDBC
driver. I got the following exception while trying to make a connection. Any
hint as to what's wrong would be greatly appreciated.

  • 9.0.3 DB Navigator Issues on 3rd Party JDBC

A new problem in 9.0.3: under System Navigator, Connections, Database Connections, we are no longer able to drill-down to schema objects (such as tables and views) for the 3rd party JDBC connection that we have been using successfully in 9.0.2.
I have configured the 3rd party JDBC libraries under jdev.conf. I am able to connect to the database. I am even able to run a Java method to connect to and extract metadata from the database.
The JDBC Driver for the Progress RDBMS is provided by Data Direct Technologies. It is a Type-2 JDBC driver created under the JDK 1.2. A type-3 driver will not soon be available. Also, I am running JDeveloper 9.0.3 under Windows 2000.
We are prototyping a web extension layer using JSP to legacy systems that have Oracle, DB2, and Progress back-ends. So far, Oracle 9iAS and JDeveloper have been the favorites to implement this layer.
However, without the schema object visibility, JDeveloper does has little use as a development tool for us. I have elaborated this problem in a previous thread, but did not get a response from Oracle.
Someone in the JDeveloper group please respond. We really like JDeveloper and do not want to have to walk away from it because of this.

    Hello Robert,
    You have two solutions :
    1) You ask your JDBC provider for compile driver with jdk1.3+
    2) You try another driver on http://industry.java.sun.com/products/jdbc/drivers
Can You help me with DB2 and Progress ?
If yes send me email on [email protected]

I have a 3rd party hard drive with movies on it ,it is connected to my airport extreme. The AE is connected to my tv via ethernet cable. Can I stream my movies to the Tv ?

    Not without a player..
The AE is a dumb file server.. the hard disk you plug in is an even dumber hard disk.
There are no smarts in this setup.. not even DLNA. So the TV would have to be an extremely smart one to read raw files on a network drive.. none do that I know of.
A solution is WD live TV.. it can read files from just about any file source on network and play them to the TV.
Nothing apple makes will do that.. ATV is a streamer not a media player. Everything in the Apple world is tied up with itunes. So you must have a computer running itunes to use it.
You can download a more generic player for ipad, and put that as part of the network.. but you still need ATV to display the video.

  • Where to add Third Party JDBC Driver in SQL Developer 4.1 EA2

In SQL Developer 4.0.3 under Tools - Preferences - Database there was an option to add a  Third Party JDBC Driver so we could use the same tool for a PostgresSQL database.  I cannot find in in SQL Developer 4.1.0.18

I think it happened because I imported settings and connections from a previous installation.
    I removed the C:\Users\username\appdata\SQL Developer\system4.1.0.18.37\ folder.
I've run it now without that and the option is back.

  • Signal express record from 3rd party VI driver

    Hi,
Highlight - Can I record data from a 3rd party VI driver in signal express?
Detail - I am tasked with developing a 'easy to use' data logging system for both voltage and temperature. Voltage will be logged via a NI cDAQ module, no problem here, temperature however will be logged from a LakeShore temperature controller, ie from a third party driver. My first thoughts were to use Signal express rather than coding my own GUI, obviously SE is easy to use for cDAQ Voltage modules.... but has it been crippled to prevent the use of VI drivers for third party kit?
Ideally I would like multiple series plotted and recorded by Signal Express, some from the cDAQ modules and some from one or more Lakeshore temperature controller and monitors, is this fundamentally possible in Signal Express? I can see that SE seems to have the ability to run labview VI's so I am hopefull!
I am using NI 2013 - full bells and whistles.
    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hello wonderwizard,
Yes you can use a Plug & Play Instrument driver. Some examples have already been created and mentioned in this Knowledge Base Article.

  • Third party JDBC Driver and Domain Extension

Hi everyone, I'm using a third party driver to acess some of the legacy databases in my company. I'm adding them to Weblogic's (v. 10.3.3.0) Classpath by setting the EXT_PRE_CLASSPATH in the setWLEnv.sh file. Everything worked fine so far, until I had to extend my domain to acomodate new settings. The Configuration Wizard crashes in the middle by saying "A fatal error Has Occurred. This Application will terminate". By inspecting the logs I saw that the Wizard tried to search my Data Source which used the third party driver and couldn't find the Driver Class. I would like to know if there is a better way to add the library to the Weblogic's Classpath or someway to workaround this issue during the extension. In my current situation I'm having to erase the data source, extend the domain and reconfigure the data source, which is big trouble !
Any help will be appretiated ! Thanks
PS: I've also tried to add the third party driver's JAR in the CLASSPATH inside config.sh file but unfortunately the error was the same !

You can place your jar files in the domain lib directory.
WebLogic uses a separate classloader to load classes from the domain lib directory. This classloader
is a child of the system classloader, and a parent of the application classloaders. The classes and
resources in any .jar file placed in the directory is automatically available to all applications.
Note, however, that the domain lib classloader does not support redeployment, dynamic reloading, or FastSwap, and cannot
refer directly to code in the application classloaders. But i think that this is not a problem, you just want your
thrid party JDBC driver to be availlable for your applications.

  • Retina Display MBP - 3rd party optical drive

    Hi,
I have just received my retina display macbook pro. I would like to view blu-ray movies on the retina display.
For this reason, I think it would be better to purchase a 3rd party bluray drive instead of the apple superdrive.
Is there any reason the apple superdrive would be preferable to a third party device? Maybe better integration with the OS?
Also, does anybody have any recommendations from these three drives:
    Samsung SE-506AB
    Asus SBW-06C2X-U
    Sony BDX-S500U
Thanks in advance for any advice

    Thanks RobotPi for your answer.
I am aware that I will need additional software to play Blu Ray movies.
I am however wondering if a third party drive will be euqally well integrated with Mac OS.
For example, with a non-apple optical drive, will I still be able to right click on a file and click "Burn .... to Disc"?
Will I be able to boot from a non-apple USB optical drive?
Does anybody know any reason why any one of the drives I mentioned is preferable to the other two?
    Thanks again

  • 3rd Party Hard Drives on Intel Xserve

We purchased an Intel Xserve with 3 80GB Apple SATA drives in the three bays. As we did with our G4 Xserve previously, we wanted more storage and opted to install higher capacity drives.
We ended up buying four (don't ask!) Seagate Baracuda 400GB SATA 7200 drives. Two worked fine but the other two would (about half the time) either show up on the login desktop about 15-45 seconds after the main desktop appeared after a reboot and occasionally wouldn't show up at all until another reboot was performed. Only about 1/3 of the time they actually show up fine and simultaneously when the main login desktop loads (like they should).
So thinking it might be a vendor problem, we purchased a Maxtor 500GB SATAII 7200 drive. Same problem.
On the occasions when the drives don't show up at all, System Profiler doesn't show anything in the bay, nor does Disk Utility see it. Nothing in the system.log or hwmond.log.
There didn't seem to be any problems with the original 3 80GB Apple drives (also Seagate Barracudas) that originally came with the Intel Xserve.
Does anyone know why this may be happening? Is it Apple's way of forcing you to buy their (overpriced) hard disks? Why would 2 of 5 3rd party drives work OK and the other 3 not?
We never had a problem using numerous 3rd party SATA drives in our existing G4 Xserve.

    Don,
We' upgraded our 2 80GB Apple SATA drives to Maxtor 750 SATAII drives (the ones Apple appears to use in their own modules of that size). I found one drive would consistently mount just fine, either after a reboot or removing and reinserting the module. The other would stay in "orange light" condition - never attempting to access it. (no blue light flicker). What I found after taking the drive back out of the module and reinstalling it is that there appears to be a great sensitivity to pressure on a cable that runs under the drive (and appears to only activate the lights in the front of the drive). For instance, I tested by not screwing the drive into the module at all (mearly letting gravity keep it in the module) and hooking it back up. It mounted immediately. Putting one screw in at a time, I found that the drive would not mount after inserting the second screw. More games allowed me to get all four screws in, the drive would mount but the lights would stay orange. Leaving the drive screwed in, but putting some finger pressure on a side of the drive near the front of the module shifted the drive slightly, and afterwards the drive mounted properly with appropriate signal light behavior.
If your drive is anything like mine, my guess is that it is very slightly larger than the 80GB drive and pressing the cable into the frame either shorting it, or giving it bad contact via pressure on it's connector at the back of the module. Try shifting the cable, relieving pressure on the drive, etc. until it appears to reliably mount. I've had no problems with the drive since performing this proceedure (though it's only been a bit over a week).
    Good luck!

  • Using a Third Party JDBC Driver that has dependencies [Version 2.1.1.64]

I am trying to connect to a TRIP database (a product from Tietoenator). They offer a JDBC driver which I have already used in java applications. So I can confirm that it works. What makes that driver perhaps a bit special is that it needs 3 other jars to operate.
So I need these jar files
<li> tripjdbc.jar (this is the actual jdbc driver)
    <li> tripjtk.jar
    <li> triputil.jar
    <li> xercesImpl.jar
I have tried to place all of those jars into the Tools > Preferences > Database > Third Party Drivers dialogue [as suggested here|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/files/thirdparty.htm]. But that does not help.
Following the docs of Tietoenator I need those 3 libraries in the path of the java app the JDBC driver shall be used from. This is where I currently fail. How can I add those to the classpath of the SQL Developer? I assume it is a *.conf file somewhere in the SQL Developer home directory ... ?
    Thank you for any suggestion.
EDIT: I am using SQL Developer on a windows box. May be of interest.

Hello, I try to create a viewlink with a Firebird SQL JDBC driver, but the SQL statment JDeveloper generate to test the view is not generic SQL compliant with Interbase, it's rather ORACLE specific :

  • Using third party JDBC driver gives error

In our project , we have to make a call to ingres database. For that we are using JDBC driver from Caribou lake Software. The application works fine when we execute in a stand alone JVM. But we get the following error if we load and try to run within JServer
Unable to instantiate packet driver java.sql.SQLException: socket connection: io error - Unsupported VC socket option
Is it possible to use other JDBC drivers inside JServer ?
    Thanks

Thanks Jim, yes a custom url - that's what i want to do - like in jdev. Did you mean the "Custom URL" on the "Oracle" tab in sqldev - this is for the oracle database jdbc driver only - to let you do stuff other than just host and port and sid/service - so I can not use that. But i do want to set up a generic jdbc url - i want to say "use this driver class" with "this url" - I can do it in jdev - since a lot of the code base is shared/similar i expect to be able to set it up in sqldev also - also i think oracle products should at least support other oracle products. I guess this is an enhancement request for the sqldev development team then. Ta Nathan.

During runtime. even though i am importing the required jar files from shared library settings in server.xml / application.xml
When i don't have the entry in shared library for this jar file it will fail during deployment time it self, but with shared library link it works during deployment but fails during runtime
it will work during runtime if i add my jar file to BC4J/lib folder. but team responsible for mintaining application server don't accept adding non oracle jar files to oracle installation folders
