4 numbers in 3 weeks - now pulling my hair out

Bit of a long story so will try and keep it short.
Decided to move to Virgin so advised BT Home I would be moving to an alternative phone-line provider.  Virgin let us down so immediately contacted BT and said please don't cancel our phone-line as we'd like to stay with you.
The next day had a call from BT Home saying we're about to disconnect your line - I said NO please don't and was assured it wouldn't happen.
2 days later disconnected.  Contacted BT who said that as the line had been "seized" I would have to set up a brand new account.
3 days later had a new account with a new number so contacted BT and requested allocation of our original number and was told it would take 2 days.
2 days later we had not been allocated our old number but a brand new number again.  Contacted BT and asked them to leave it as it was - forget our old number.  Was assured that it would stay as it was and so advised everybody of our new number.
Today - 2 working days later guess what?  Another NEW NUMBER!
I've spent hours on the phone to BT's call centre and whatever I say the opposite seems to happen apart from being lied to (one representative actually called me back claiming he had dialled our old number). We've now had 4 different numbers in the last 3 weeks - twice not even being told about the change.   Really don't know where to go from here.

I am really sorry that everything went a bit haywire with your move.  I'll be happy to help you out here and try and get everything back to the way that you want it.
What can I do here for you to try and sort this out?  Is there a particular number you want back or something else? 
If its a number I cant guarantee it I'm afraid but I will certainly do my best to get it for you.

    Is it not possible to create a text box, fill it with dynamic (data driven) text, but make the font size either scale up or down automatically, so that the entire text box is filled? This is a feature in PrintShop Mail Pro called COPY FIT. but no such feature in Indesign??

    lol... it seems to work, but I have another huge problem!
    Apparently .CSV files cannot contain page breaks in the data! The data I am trying to merge is a 'letter', with paragraphs, line breaks, etc.,
    But, after data merging, it ignores page breaks and only merges the first paragraph of each letter. (sigh)
    Solution? Hopefully, an EASY solution. lol as we have thousands of records.
    Is there a third party indesign plugin that will allow .xml, or .xls data merge import??

I've managed to play music wirelessly from my macbook to the express/stereo, however i cant surf the web because i can only presume i haven't set up the express to join my sky network.  So therefore the only way to surf the web at the moment is swap wireless devices from express back to my current sky network, then the airplay stops obviously.
    I've tried to join the express to my sky network/netgear router, at face value it looks simple.  The sky network name automatically comes up and then all i have to do is select the correct wireless security which i haven't got a clue which one my sky/netgear router is using, then type in the password which i presume is the network key number on the back of the netgear router?  However its not connecting??  I am doing something wrong?
    Can someone please give me some guidence on how to connect express to my current network?

    Suggest that you ask Sky what type of wireless security that is used on the devices that they provide.
    Once you have that information, you can choose the correct matching setting when you configure the AirPort Express to "join" the Sky wireless network.
    The "password" would be the normal phrase that you use to connect to your wireless network at the present time.

    Honestly if I have to listen to another helpdesk operator tell me not to worry and they will sort my problem I think I will scream...so i am turning to the sanity of the forum - hopefully someone in the ether can help!
    We have always had really bad connectivity <0.2mbps. This is because of long line length. Then a couple of weeks ago our phone and consequently our ADSL lost connectivity. Openreach came out an fixed the phone - but the broadband has never come back up - this was logged under fault: VOL-012-************. The engineers cames out twice, first to fix and then to check the line when the broadband didn't come back on - the engineer said the line was fine - it was a problem with the back end....
    ....so I ring BT - they raise a new case VOL-051-************. The agent on the phone tells me that they can see the problem - but that it needs to be a raise to the L2 team - yet another set of pointless days waiting...
    Classic moment today when the L2 team say that it isn't there fault - Openreach need to visit - now we can guess what the answer there will be, a continuous circle of it isn't our fault it there...
    So is there someone out there that is a saine, sensible and informed BT person that can look at these cases and just tell me why my broadband isn't coming back on after there was a BT fault (I believe something on the Pole that was faulty)

    for your security please delete vol ref numbers
    in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
    are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
    Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
    Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Can't get battery to charge - please help before I pull my hair out

    My daughter and I both have the Curve 8530, first, her battery didn't seem to hold a charge very long, then her charging port stopped working.  So we started swapping the batteries.  When hers was low, I would give her mine with more charge and charge up the other one, using it until the first one needed a charge.  That started getting more and more frequent, now, all of the sudden I can't get either one to charge in my phone.  Figured out that hers doesn't charge because it is broken.  We can see a piece of metal that should be on the little tab in the port, laying at the bottom of the port.  Mine is a little loose after 2 years, so I sometimes have to wiggle the connection or make sure I set it down and don't move it when it is charging.  However, this is making me crazy.  It was plugged into my computer usb to charge all night and was completely dead this morning.  Which, is not a big suprise as the usb port on my computer doesn't always like to charge the BB.  Gives me an error saying not enough power.  So I plugged in the wall charger and let it sit.  It gets far enough that it will start the OS, but then sat there for hours and never changed from red and didn't get even 1 bar of charge.  Usually it only take a short time.  I read another post about an internal circular battery under the sticker with all the identification numbers on it, but I don't see any battery resembling that and am not comfortable taking my BB apart like that.  So any suggestions as to what the problem might be?  Or how to fix it?  My daughter's, though she doesn't think so, is not near as important as having at least one battery for mine due to work, etc.  Thanks for reading and any help.

    I would suggest trashing the .itl and .xml files to make sure you start clean (quit iTunes before you trash the files, of course). Then use the Add Folder To Library command and select your iTunes Music folder. That should get everything back into iTunes, though you won't get any playlists back unless you made a backup of them.

  • Lines being printed that don't appear on PDF document created in Illustrator.. Pulling my hair out!

    So here's the story:
    I own a company that designs and sells sewing patterns for men's clothing to be made by home sewers. I have my patterns professionally drafted and sent to me as a poster-sized PDF. I then open it in Illustrator, move things around, change some fonts, etc... and make a 34" wide copy to be printed at a copy shop. That's all fine and dandy, and it prints out perfectly.
    I then use Acrobat XI Pro to open the 34" version and print to Adobe PDF with the poster setting of 7.5" x 10" for people to print at home. Then I open each page of the multi-page PDF in Illustrator to add a border, alignment marks, page numbers, etc... and save as the same PDF.
    Now here is where the weirdness begins. For some reason, there are random chunks of lines (identical to the pattern lines throughout the rest of the document) that aren't supposed to be there. They don't show up on my screen when I open the file in Illustrator or Adobe, but they get printed every time. I've even started the whole process from scratch, tested the 34" wide version at the print shop (prints perfectly), and split it into pages again, and the phantom lines are still there!
    I've attached a photo I took of one of the pages in question. The file on my screen is the exact one I printed, and as you can see, they are definitely not the same
    Can anyone help me? I can send the PDF files in question if need be!
    Oh and if it helps, I have been saving the PDF files as Press Quality from Illustrator. Any other settings/info you need? Thanks very much in advance!

    Yep, it definitely is a complicated workflow... But I'm not really sure of any other way to get from the 34" wide pattern to the home-sewing version which is split into pages and has alignment marks and whatnot. I'm very much an amateur that has figured it out as I went
    I went through the page in the photo pretty thoroughly with the layer panel and I couldn't find any mystery lines... But I did find something interesting; when I click on any of the pattern lines, it shows the whole line of the pattern piece, which extends well past the edge of the artboard. So when I'm printing the poster-sized PDF to 7.5x10 pages, it's keeping all the anchor points of a line even if only a small piece of that is on the actual page.

    Also, should I be keeping all the files I'm editing as .ai files and then only exporting to PDF for the very final product? I was doing that at first, but then using .pdf for the whole process didn't seem to make any difference.

    I can't stand it anymore!! I downloaded 9.2 a week ago and it's been nothing but a nightmare since!! Freeze-ups are the norm, I can't get into the iTunes Store AT ALL, it won't let me complete a back up to DVD, and I can't sync my iPhone!! What the **** is going on here???!!!   • Pulling my hair out - WIN 7 laptop and WRT160N

    I bought the WRT160N when my old D-LINK 524 died after 6 years of flawless service.  Have had the WRT160N for a week and I am ready to send it back.  I have had nothing but issues (drop, slow connection, low signal).  Finally, today my internet service went out altogether (the provider).  When it came back NOTHING worked.  I had to hard reset the router and start all over.  I use MAC filtering only, so at least I didn't have to do the keys again.   Anyway, little by little I got all 10 devices to work with the router, except my son's laptop which is running WIn 7.
    It "sees" the SSID, but cannot connect at all.  I tried deleting the old network profiles, hoping the system would walk me thru creating a new one.  No such luck, so I now have a 3 month old top of the line laptop that can't do squat, and I need help before I give up on this router.  
    The problem is when you go to connect to the network, the SSID is there.  When you say connect, it says it can't.  The troubleshooter is useless.  I am not too familiar with Win 7, so I don't want to start hacking things.
    If anyone can help me out, I would much appreciate it.

    Try to turn-off the Mac-Filtering on the router and check if that works...If yes then,re-check the mac address you are entering in the list.It should be the wireless mac address of the computer.

  • Help, I am about to pull my hair out, can't get into a locked drive and Time Machine problem

    I've screwed everything up, I think.  I had Time Machine doing backups to an external 500Gig drive and somehow it got locked.  I went into Get Info to try and change the access but it won't allow me.  On top of this problem, my original drive died and I can't get into Time Machine to restore.  When I click "Enter Time Machine", nothing happens.  I created an eDisk and a startup disk to another external drive that I'm using now, but since everything that's been backed up is on the other drive that I can't access.  When I try accessing the drive it gives:  "The folder “G-DRIVE ” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents."  I'm not knowledgeable enough to work from the command line, so if I need to do that to access the drive, please walk me though it.  As for the Time Machine problem, I have no idea how to recover anything since it won't even come up, it just sits there.  Outside of blowing my brains out, I don't know what to do.  Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can't afford to take it to Apple to let them try and fix it.

    Hello, not sure how this might affect a TM drive, or not, but...
    Here is what i needed to do for my drive "320GB HD", the last command is just for clean up
    Open Terminal and type these commands carefully with the spaces & change 320GB HD to the name of your drive.
    sudo chflags 0 "/volumes/320GB HD"
    sudo chown root "/volumes/320GB HD"
    sudo chmod 1775 "/volumes/320GB HD"
    sudo -k
    That said, these should be sufficient to do the job:
    sudo chflags 0 "/Volumes/320GB HD"
    sudo chmod a+rx "/Volumes/320GB HD"

  • I Am At My Wit's End...Going Crazy...Ready To Pull My Hair Out HELP!!!!!!!!

    here is my problem:
    my loop browser likes to delete my loops. they just disappear for no reason....user loops as well as the apple ones. i have my loop folders where i believe is the correct location. but they aren't in the browser. i take that back....every time i open logic, some folders appear, some disappear...i open it again, different ones are there....the ones there the last time are now gone. basically they keep appearing and disappearing....most of them...some have never shown up in the browser. the last time i checked...all i had in there were the ones for the symphony jam pack. i'm afraid next time i open logic none will be there. i keep moving them in and out of the user and apple loop folders thinking that might do something. gah! i just don't know what to do. and god only knows if all the samples and loops i created are anywhere on my computer anymore. oh...and if i try taking the individual folders or files and drag them into the browser, logic freezes. and it doesn't matter anyway because those that i succesfully loaded into the browser that way have also disappeared.
    can someone please please please help me. i am desperate. i have had the most obnoxious day already. i am having all these problems with the computer, my car was towed (not my fault either), i woke up at 3am because i couldn't sleep....i'm just stressed and all i want to do is work on music.

    the only thing that seems to be working right now is if i take my loop folders out of library/audio. i dragged some to my desktop (don't ask me why i did this) and imported them from there. for some reason they are staying in my loop browser. also when asked where i wanted to put the files, i selected them to go where the rest of the loops are at....in the proper directory. i'm thinking of trying this with all the loops and see what happens. something is corrupted and i'd like to know what and why. i admit, which i am embarrassed about, my computer is a mess. i really need to organise it and all that. actually, i am hoping hoping hoping to get a macbook just for my music. it would make life easier for me seeing i am quickly running out of room on all my hard drives.
    the only loops i am having trouble locating are all the ones i made recently. which i am upset about. but i am sure they are here somewhere. i just need ot wade through the mess to find them.

  • New burning problem....pulling my hair out

    i have burned movies successfully many times. i make them in imovie and then burn via idvd. i just finished one that is 1 hour and 8 minutes long. i chose share -- then idvd to burn. however, when i attempt to burn, and am prompted for a disc, i put it into the drive and it spins for a while, then spits out the disc and i get a message that says "no recordable disc in the drive. insert recordable disc." i have a box of new recordable discs that i have never had a problem with. they are verbatim dvd-r 16x 4.7 gb/120 minutes of video. i keep unwrapping one and trying it -- but i get the same error message and now i have tried unsuccessfully with six new discs. i don't know what to do. the drive seems to be functioning correctly. it reads other dvd's and cd's. anyone have any help, thoughts, suggestions? thanks in advance!

    You may also wish to make sure your Mac is fully ready -- I use MacJanitor (get from VersionTracker) to trigger all the maintenance scripts and then Repair Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility.
    Check to see how much hard disk space you have available; 10-20 gigs is desireable. Also try breaking the burning into two parts as often recommended in these forums -- Save as Disc Image, then use Apple's Disk Utility (or Roxio Toast) to slowly burn the DVD.

  • Pulling my hair out: Change format from date to number format?

    I was recently sent a formatted Excel spreadsheet in which to enter my own numbers.  The format is date and duration, but the last column is the total number of hours and minutes converted into decimals, e.g. 3hrs. 30mins. = 3.5 hours.
    It was going fine until last night when I tried to enter 5:73 as a number, not a duration, but Numbers keeps changing it to 6m 13s.  I've tried changing the format from Duration to Number but although the cell will say 0:00, when I enter the number 5:73 it automatically switches back.
    The weird thing is that it's only happening on about one-third of the cells.  I even cut-and-pasted a section of the spreadsheet that didn't have this problem, cleared the contents and then typed my info into the same lines and rows and it's still doing the same thing.
    How can I see the hidden formatting in Numbers cells to see if I can figure what needs to be changed?

    dragging on bottom right corner but all that does is increase the range, not the size of the actual cell itself.
    Hover the cursor over the right of a column (Column B in this example) until the cursor becomes a cross with arrows pointing East and West. Drag right to widen the column.
    Or use the Format Panel > Table > Row & Column Size
    (You may have to drag the panel up to see this)
    I really miss in Numbers is being able to edit cell contents in a formula bar.
    Here is the formula bar in Numbers 3.2 after clicking twice on a cell
    The formula bar is moveable. Hover over the left of the bar until the cursor changes to a 'hand' and you can drag it.
    Resize the formula bar by hovering over any edge and drag
    Tricky with a trackpad, easier with a mouse .
    Also, the cell contents appear at bottom left of the Numbers window
    If you prefer Numbers 2.3, I agree it is much more user-friendly version.

  • Want to pull your hair out? Try moving the HD/SD combo shows.

    Seems simple enough, right? You download an HD show on your desktop, which also comes with an SD version for your iPhone/iPod, and you want to put it on your laptop. Ah, things are never as simple as they seem. Try it yourself, or, simply back up your show (both versions), delete it from iTunes, and then try to put it back in your library.
    When you attempt to copy the shows back, only the HD version will copy over. The SD version will not be copied. If you try to manually copy the SD show, it won't. If you try simply moving it to the library on your own, next to the HD version, iTunes won't recognize it.
    There is no obvious or simple way to move or restore a combo HD/SD show. It's easy to move the HD or SD show into your library, but not both so they function as they did when first downloaded from iTunes.
    Has anyone else seen this issue? I was finally able to figure out a method to get it to work, but it's very convoluted and involves multiple steps that aren't intuitive.
