404 error when downloading Oracle SQL Developer 2.1 (2.1.0.63.73) for Mac

Greetings,
I'm getting a 404 error when I try to download the Mac OS X version of Oracle SQL Developer. The download page is at
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/sql/index.html
And it links to the Mac version at:
http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper-2.1.0.63.73-macosx.tar.gz
Which doesn't exist.
Is this the correct forum to report this problem?
Thanks
Mick

I don't know what to say: I went to this link
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.html
Clicked on Download in the upper right corner, re-accepted the whatever-they-wanted-me-to-accept and then the OSX download suddenly worked. Give it a spin and see if a circuit like that works for you.
Good luck!

Hello,
I get the same error after updating through Help->Check for Updates. I am at version 1.1.2.25 and the update does not change the version number of Oracle SQL Developer (Help->About), it remains at 1.1.2.25 (although if I look in extensions tab, it says: oracle.sqldeveloper 1.1.3.27.66 Loaded, possible bug in displaying version number?). These are the updates applied:
Upgraded Extensions
Oracle Microsoft Access Browser version 1.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Developer - Snippet version 10.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Developer version 1.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Developer - Reports version 10.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Server Browser version 1.1.3.27.66
Oracle MySQL Browser version 1.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Developer - Worksheet version 10.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Developer - Extras version 1.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Developer - SearchBar version 10.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Developer - Object Viewer version 10.1.3.27.66
I ran the update several times and was able to reproduce the error under a specific condition. If I am connected to a database at the time of the update I get the error. If I am not conneceted at the time of the update I do not get the error.
As stated, by Donal, sql developer seems to get over the problem after restarting itself twice.

• DMSConsole error when connecting with Sql Developer 3

It's been over a month, and we can't get SQL Developer 3 to do anything useful.
Our older Sql Developer 1.5.5 is connecting ok.
We have no CLASSPATHs defined, and all of the other Sql/Oracle tools are running fine, including Pl/Sql Developer. And we have no problem coding Java apps in Intellij, and executing them.
The DMS Jar
ojdbc6dms.jar
is located in
c:\app\ChildeDE\product\11.2.0\client_2\sqldeveloper_3\sqldeveloper\lib\
It's a class not found error, whenever we try any defined connection (imported from sql developer 1.1.5):
Error connecting
oracle/dms/console/DMSConsole
Stack Trace:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/dms/console/DMSConsole
...

Not sure how to make sense of all this. Also, the Oracle_home is already set to a folder; should this be modified in the local session, whenever sqldeveloper runs?

• Tnsnames.ora error when installing oracle 9i developer suite

Hi,
Can anyone answer this question: I recently installed
oracle 9i and i'm getting a tnsnames.ora error when connecting to the database. Can anyone tell me what parameters to modify in the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files and what values to put in these parameters. Also,
i'm trying to create a net_service_name in oracle net manager(in configuration/management tools) and I can't figure out the service name for versions of Oracle 8i or later. Can someone tell me what this is because the program is asking for a service name. I need this info
for connecting to the database by username/password@net_service_name. Please respond soon.
Thank you.
T. Patel

Go Net8Assistant. Follow the tree Net8Config ->Local -> Service Naming. In this node you will find all instances set (SIDs) and by clicking on them you will see in the right hand part of the screen if they were set or not in tnsnames.ora.
Another way: Usually the database service name is OracleServiceSID. Go Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and check out the Oracle Service name. Take the SID from there to tnsnames.ora.
You should have write down the name you was asked for while you were installing Oracle (or the default name that the installer put for you).
Hope this will help you

• Download Oracle SQL Developer for Windows

Hi,
I downloaded the above software, but when I try to open the zip file, I get a message saying "cannot open file, it does not appear to be a valid archive". The size of the zip file downloaded is about 57meg. I tried to download a number of times with the same result.
Any ideas?
thanks.

I have not the problem what you said.
You may download the one without JDK, or change the version of WinZip.
Good Luck!

• Unable to donwload Oracle SQL Developer 2.1 Patch 1 - getting a 404

Hi,
I'm trying to download Oracle SQL Developer 2.1 Patch 1, but I'm getting a 404.
Here is the page I'm downloading from:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/sql/index.html
Here is the link to the zip file:
http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper-2.1.1.64.45-no-jre.zip
Could anyone point me to a working link?

I have just been to the site and downloaded the software. This is is always available and certainly not been down for 40 days, we track the daily downloads. You maybe restricted by a firewall setting on your side which does not permit you to download the software. There are occasions when there are issues, but generally if you try again in an hour they're resolved. We will not put the software on a rapid share site and for anyone else to do so would be violating licensing restrictions and is as such not legal.

• Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler start up error

Hi All,
I just downloaded Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler (2.0.0.57.0) [Released 1 July 2009] by selecting the option "Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler for Windows (This zip file includes the JRE)"
After I installed the same and tried to run it by clicking datamodeler.exe, I get the following error message
"unable to create an instance of the Java virtual machine located at path:..\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll"
On the same machine I can successfuly run the Oracle SQL Develper with no errors. My machine is having Windows XP Professional SP3.
Any ideas? If there was a problem with Java, than the Oracle SQL Developer should also not run. But as stated it runs with out any error but the Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler gives the above error.
Regards,
JAA149

1 - The above problem has nothing to do with the memmory. I tried on a 400 MB RAM, 900 MB RAM, 1.5 MB RAM & 2 MB RAM with the same arror.
"unable to create an instance of the Java virtual machine located at path:..\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll"
http://i30.tinypic.com/9vkwf6.jpg
2 - There are two "datamodeler.exe: files
One is at D:\datamodeler\datamodeler.exe
2nd is at D:\datamodeler\bin\datamodeler.exe
The same error occurs with both the files.
3 - The Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler version is "Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler (2.0.0.57.0) [Released 1 July 2009]" and the file I downloaded is "Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler for Windows (This zip file includes the JRE) - (57M)"
If I look in "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\README.txt" I find
"Java(TM) Platform, Standard Edition Runtime Environment Version 6"
If I run "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\javacpl.exe" I get
http://i30.tinypic.com/mt8ocn.jpg
If I run "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\jureg.exe" I get
http://i28.tinypic.com/30boiyo.jpg
If i check at the control panle add/remove program
http://i30.tinypic.com/1428tba.jpg
If I go to "http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp" and download "jre-6u16-windows-i586-s.exe" and run it.
If I go to "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6" I find the same files as in "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre"
I am able to run Oracle SQL Developer with out any kind of error let alone the above one. But with Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler I get the above mentioned error no matter what I try.
As the error states "unable to create an instance of the Java virtual machine located at path:..\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll". The file "jvm.dll" is located at two places. One at "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll" and the second at "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll"
A similiar problem occurs with JDeveloper with the fllowing solution
http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=506339&start=0&tstart=0
Which states the following
"hello!
in the problem with JDeveloper i have a solution. The jdk have a file jvm.dll in the path: jdk/jre/bin/client/jvm.dll this is the problem ... now in the path:jdk/jre/bin/client/ojvm has a file with the same name if you copy and paste this file to the another path, now its works fine your Jdeveloper.
Jdeveloper use two files to jvm.dll to work one in the folder /client and other in /server copy the same file to the two locations for precaution
for me work fine thanks..."
I tried to do the same (Copy from client folder to server folder)
D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll
COPIED THIS FILE TO
D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll
Nada. So I reversed it (copied from server folder to client folder)
D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll
COPIED THIS FILE TO
D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll
Does not work. So I tried another solution stated at the same forum entry
"Well,
i solved the problem by this way :
<SQLDEVELOPER>/jdev/bin/ide.conf
In this file, change this line :
AddVMOption -Xmx512M
by
AddVMOption -Xmx256M
Now, the executable is lauching correctly. No more errors with Java Virtual Machine.
But is it a good thing to solve it like that ?"
But the ide.conf file is only at "D:\sqldeveloper\ide\bin\ide.conf" which is for the SQL Developer and not the SQl Developer Data Modeler
Correct me if I am wrong but
JRE = Java Run Time Envoirment
JDK = Java Development Kit
And Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler needs JRE and not JDK. In any case I download JDK
jdk-6u14-javafx-1_2-windows-i586.exe (121,306 KB) and installed it but no succcess.
I tried every thing except completely re-install my whole PC.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Cordially,
Jawad

• Oracle sql developer downlaod problem

hi
i put my oracle sql in C drive, but when i open it ,it gives me error like :"unable to find main class.Class specified is :oracle/ide/boot/Launcher
can anybody has solution
thanks a lot in advance

I have the same issue...
I've just downloaded
Oracle SQL Developer 2.1 Patch 1 (2.1.1.64.45) Oracle SQL Developer for 32-bit Windows (This zip file includes the JDK1.6._11)
I extract it straight to the c:\ drive making sure I select "Keep folder structure", double click the sqldeveloper.exe executable and I get
"unable to find main class.Class specified is :oracle/ide/boot/Launcher"
I noticed I have a directory and an entry in my environment path of :-
C:\jdk\bin
which holds a JDK v5.0 in it (don't know why it's there, I didn't build the machine).
Could this be a reason for my issues?

• Oracle SQL Developer Connection Help

Hi,
I'm a complete Oracle newbie, so please bear with me. I've been doing research on protein clustering and at my lab the SQL developer has been running queries that I can then do statistics on. I have the query that I need to run, and was told to download Oracle SQL Developer and Oracle Client.
I was also given a username and password, a hostname, a port and a SID. I'm a bit confused, do I still need to install Oracle Client? And if so, I can't quite find what it is on the website? I have SQL Developer installed but when I click connect I get:
"Status : Failure -Test failed: IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection"
I'm pretty computer literate outside the world of databases so if someone can offer some explanations and guidance, it would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Thanks! If you have SQL Developer installed & need to connect to some Oracle DB,
then you do NOT need Oracle client.
FWIW - SQL Developer is written in Java & uses JDBC (thin) to connect to the DB
Is the DB Server on a subnet local to your system?

• Editing views in Oracle SQL Developer

Hi All,
I have only just downloaded Oracle SQL Developer and have vreated a view. Now I want to be able to go back to that view and edit. When I right click on the view, it gives the option to edit but my scripts to edit isn't there, morre or less telling me to start all ove r again.
Can some one help on this or am I just to new to the program.
Many thanks
Cube60

Hi,
I don't seem to get waht you mean. When I right click on my view, then I choose edit, then on the first tab, Entire SQL query, mine comes up as blank.
When inserting new records on a table with its primary keys based on sequence numbers, it does not automatically pick the nextval in the sequencce.
For example, before downloading SQL Developer, I used to work in SQLplus and I have created records and have now moved them from that table to history table for records purpose. Lets say I have moved or deleted records with empid 8 -101 to a history table without a link between my source table and my destination table. The next record I should be allowed to enter in SQL Developer should be 102 and not empid 9 as it presently does.
SQL> select seq_empid.currval from dual;
CURRVAL
101
Any comments or way round this?
Thanks

• Import of ERwinR8 data models into Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler

Hi! My site want to move off ERwin R8 and use Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler. When will Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler support the import of ERwin R8data model xml?
Thanks very much, Patty

Hi,
You can add the classic SCOTT schema with EMP/DEPT tables to a 10g Express Edition DB by running this script as SYSTEM:
C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\RDBMS\ADMIN\scott.sql
Also, you may wish to upgrade to the current version of SQL Developer:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
As for importing a .dmp file, you import it to the database, not SQL Developer. Please post that question to the appropriate forum.
