4S hangs updating apps after iOS6 install

I updated my 4S to iOS 6.0 this morning.  Initially, it hung on restart and I was forced, after over 30 minutes with no change, to restore to factory, then restore from the backup I made prior to installing the new iOS.  It restored and installed iOS 6 with no issues.  Everything looked good until I attempted to install/update apps.  Four of them hung at "waiting" for an hour.  I updated them in iTunes and attempted to update them on the phone via a sync to no avail.  I restarted my MBP and tried again.  Still hung up.  I finally got movement, one app at a time, by restarting the iPhone - four times over.
This afternoon, there were more apps to update.  Silly me, I just asked the iPhone to do it.  Again, I am hung up at "waiting."  This time, nothing works.  I don't even have the option, via the iPhone or iTunes, to delete and reinstall them.  I've restarted everything, and am down to doing another restore if no one has any better suggestions.  I just don't want to be stuck restoring every time there's a major app update until this is addressed.
I have seen "Cannot sync iPhone. unknown error 1136" a couple of times upon attempting to sync while the app updates were hung up, but a restart of iTunes 10.7 got rid of that message.
Anyone else seeing this and managed to get past it?  Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Barb

So, I ended up calling AppleCare.  We tried a few things, but ultimately ended up doing the restore to factory defaults option as even attempting to install apps directly ftom iTunes wasn't working.
Instead of restoring to backup, we started fresh and tried to install an app.  No problem.  So it looked like bad info from my iPhone was causing the problem.  I wasn't ready to give up and restored from my morning backup after I got off the phone.
While I sat and impatiently watched 90-some apps install during the restore-from-backup, I realized something.  During that process earlier today, I hadn't liked where the iOS was putting a couple things, and the fact that it had forgotten to put in an app or two.  I had rearranged the offending items and added the missing apps.  Then I hit "sync."  Ya, in the middle of a restore.  Since the latest restore-from-backup is working fine and installing apps without an issue, that had to be the culprit.
So, if you're having problems after doing a restore-from-backup after issues installing iOS 6, ask yourself if you did ANYTHING on your phone or if you re-synced during that restore.  If you did, you might seriously consider re-doing that restore.

  • Unable to update apps after Mavericks install (Unable to update w/this Apple ID)

After updating Mavericks I cannot update the Apps. It says, "Update Unavailable with this Apple ID.  This update is not available for this Apple ID either b/c it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled".
Neither of those reasons are accurate. Please advise.

Perform the following, stopping with the first one which works:
    1. Open the Mac App Store's Purchases tab. If you're prompted to accept them into your Apple ID, do so.
    2. Move them out of the Applications folder(they may need to be put into the Trash temporarily), and then see if you can download them for free from their individual product pages. If you're asked to buy them, see #3.
    3. Click here, contact Apple, and wait for a response.
    4. Buy them.

  • Trash Firmware Update App After Install?

After install, is it ok to trash "MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update" app that is installed in the Utilities folder by the installer for Update 1.5.1?

    Yes you can trash it.

  • Keeps on updating apps after updating

App store keeps on updating apps after they have been updated already in a previous session, showing the same updates as the time before.
Somehow doesn't recognize the update installed.

Just 'Pages', iBook Author and a Solitaire game.
After updating, a day later it shows that they need to be updated again. An Apple support person told me to uninstall the particular apps and then redownload these apps from the store. This should solve the problem according to her.
Next time they show up for updating, I will try this.

Can not update apps after IOS8 update on iPhone 4s
I can no longer update apps on my iPhone 4s after the IOS 8 update. The IOS 8 update took a very long time to complete, maybe 12 hours, and afterwards, it worked but updating packages were very slow. Package updates have since been problematic and about 4 days ago, it stopped being able to update any packages. I click on them to update and they never make any progress. I have 2.8 Gbytes free and I keep deleting more and more packages, pictures, etc. It seems like, from the amount of stuff that I have deleted, I should have more than 2.8 Gbytes free.
Is anyone else having this kind of problem?

16GB iPhone4: Go to Settings, scroll down to iTunes & App Stores and touch. At the top of the next page it shows: Apple ID. Touch this. Select Sign Out. Your Apple ID will go away. Re-enter Apple ID and password. Try App Store again.
Other solutions were to go to Settings:General:Date&Time and turn off auto-update, then change date to next year. This didn't work for me, nor a lot of other users on the forums. It took reading a lot of threads to find the log-out, log-in solution. Even on the official Apple Website all I saw was: Make sure your connection is working, battery is charged, desktop is plugged in when you try to sync. OK I exaggerate, but with all the users posting this problem, you'd think they'd post their solutions when they work with a Tech Help call.

  • Cannot connect to iTunes after iOS6 install

Cannot connect to iTunes after iOS6 install. Tried to reset date forward as others have suggested, has not worked. Any other idea's solutions out there?

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

Why can't I install apps after I installed IOS 5? The app sits there waiting..

This too started to happen to me when I upgraded iOS 5 and moved to iCloud.
I have since purchased 3 apps and got the waiting que and nothing.
I noticed though that with my Mac on, I went to IPad settings/general/iTunes sync and sync now, suddenly the three apps started o download and install. Why it's doing this I'm not sure until I dig a bit deeper.

  • Unable to update apps after upgrading to yosemite

Please test after each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes. Keep in mind that no one here represents Apple or can help with customer-service issues.
    Step 1
A purchased app can only be updated by signing in to the App Store with the same Apple ID that was originally used to buy it. There's no way around that limitation, which also applies to free apps. If you can't sign in with the buyer's ID, delete the app and reinstall it. You'll have to pay for it again, if applicable.
    Step 2
If you get the alert when trying to update a bundled iLife app, select the Purchases page in the App Store and locate the app in your purchase history. If there's a button marked ACCEPT on the right, click it.
If you have a used Mac, the bundled apps were linked to the original owner's Apple ID and can't be transferred to you. Reportedly, customer service has issued redemption codes to some second owners who asked, but it's not guaranteed.
    Step 3
If you're trying to update iLife or iWork apps that were installed from a purchased DVD, or if you have a refurbished Mac bought directly from Apple, contact App Store customer service for a redemption code. You may be asked for the part number of the DVD.
    Step 4
From the App Store menu bar, select
              Store ▹ View My Account
Enter your Apple ID password at the prompt. At the lower right corner of the window that opens, click the Reset button. Close the window.
    Step 5
According to a report, the error can result from changing the language setting of your Apple ID account. I can't confirm.

  • Updating Apps w/ iOS6

After loading ios6 on an iPad, when trying to update apps a msg appears "Account not in this store. Your account is not valid for use in the U.S. store. You must switch to the Ugandan store before purchasing".

I have the same problem: sounds muted for all apps, alerts (except the phone ring). It seems to be an intermittent software (iOS 6) problem (other threads suggest the software fault might be related to managing the docking connection state).  Mine also has some weird link to the docking connection.
After multiple reboots, "Reset All Settings" and ear-buds in/out didn't work, I was going to resort to a complete wipe.  My work iPhone 4S isn't associated with my home PC / iTunes, so I went to do a manual back-up of photos to my PC - but no photos were visible on the PC (using Windows Explorer). The windows transfer app also alerted me that there were no photos (even thoough there were 200+ on the phone).  I took a new photo and tried again and there were all the old photos.  Also, sounds were back, plus the hardware volume control buttons were working again.
However - disconnecting and rebooting and the controls/sounds go away again after entering my passcode .
Plugging back into an non-iTunes PC seems to bring them back... Very frustrating.

  • Update app after grace period

We currently have an app with an install base in the tens of thousands. I recently applied an update signed with a valid certificate, but that certificate has just expired. I need to know what will happen after the 180 day "grace period". If I apply another update in more than 180 days, will the original users need to uninstall the original app to install the new one? From what I see in the documentation that looks like the only option...?
    Thanks

    Thanks, Ann154, for your reply.
    Hello nd09,
Thanks for posting! Is there a reason why you’re considering returning your device? If you recently upgraded to a new device that you purchased directly from Verizon Wireless and are beyond the Return/Exchange period, 14 days, as Ann154 mentioned, you will be charge an early termination fee if your line is disconnected. If you simply return the device during this period than your contract will go back to how it was before the upgrade.  I trust you’ll find this information helpful. Have a great day.

  • Updating apps after a change in Apple ID

This question may well be addressed elsewhere, but it may help to have it here with a solution.
I recently changed the email of my Apple ID. The change caused several problems and one with App store.
Updating apps (e.g. Keynote) bought before the change, I found that the Apple ID proposed when I did so was the old one, which was, of course, no longer valid. It's greyed out in the window so you can't change it.
I began to think I wasn't going to be able to update at all. But then I found a post related to something else but which helped out here.
So the solution is to first trash the application and then click on "Buy" in the App store. You then get a window in which you can type the right Apple ID and connect to the store. You reclick "Buy" and because the app figures in the list you bought previously, the App store graciously lets you download the updated app for free.

OK I think I have the answer
Work, in order to give me a functioning machine, installs Apple apps using its own Apple ID. It means they can write an image to my disk instead of painstakingly installing a box o' apps. makes perfect sense.
I then add my own preferred apps, and those I bought myself through the apple store using MY Apple ID.
Thus I can update "My" apps but can't update the apps installed by our IT department, because the system wants the appleID from the installer/disk image they were installed from.
Thus I can upgrade to Yosemite but not install the related apps like pages/Keynote, etc. since it asks for the IT department's Apple ID and not mine, regardless of the apple ID I have entered in the System prefs.
This happens with the following Apple apps::
    Pages
    Numbers
    Keynote
    iMovie
    iPhoto
    So: here's my solution.
After you have the entire system updated etc, and you have isolated the apps that won't update for this specific reason, delete one of those apps, install it from scratch from the apple store, wait for it to download and install, open it once to make sure it works, then move to the next one. Painstaking I know but it worked...
