5.1 peeves

So far with OS-X 10.6.8 I've found 3 peeves with Safari 5.1, or I'm missing something somewhere in 5.1. First, some ads on some Websites blinks the whole page. Second, it can't remember where I want the browser window located. It keeps opening to a default position and I have to move it where I want. And third, you can't remove cookies, local storage or database files for single Websites under one general one, eg. xxx.blogspot.com. You have to remove all for the Website. I remedy this by closing 5.1 and opening 5.0.5 and remove individual cookies or going to the folders for local storage and db's.

Yes it was, see http://iphone-experience.com/2011/11/how-to-assign-a-relationship-to-a-contact-o n-the-iphone/
I did it under 5.01, but now that option isn't there.
Anyone else seeing this?

  • Pet Peeve

I have gotten used to iMovie 08 for its dead simple clip trimming and Library management.
    Here's my pet peeve:
I use a BT Apple Might Mouse. In ANY other QT program (and many non-QT), as well as viewing video in Safari browser windows, I can hold down the fn key an use the mouse ball to scroll the video-frame-by-frame. It acts like a jog wheel. Very, very handy.
Doesn't work in iMovie 08. Skimming is fine but is a grosser motor skill compared to scrolling with a fingertip. The Apple Might Mouse is not the best mouse, but it's scroll ball is the best fine control frame jogger I've ever used, especially on a laptop.
It's very frustrating when Apple programs are not alike.
Yes, I have made the appropriate comments to Apple directly.

Here's a little perspective that might help, Lorna.
Your website is a work of art; a creation made by you and very much an extension of who you are, or who you are trying to represent, if you're building it for someone else. You are familiar with every single intricate detail of the site and more, because the majority of the details which make a site what it is are the results of laborious endeavors that only you can appreciate. (Your friends here in the forum are an exception!)
And this is really the point; the people who visit your site cannot possibly appreciate the work involved because they are not web designers like yourself. They are accustomed to surfing the web and have developed an ability to take in the contents of a page in just seconds; and herein lies the challenge for a designer: how do you keep them on the page? You have to grab more of their attention from a sensory aspect.
One easy and simple way to do this is with music that automatically starts playing when you click on the page. People connect very quickly with a familiar tune and without thinking, they will linger for a greater length of time on the page without even realizing it.
Anything animated, and little movie clips that autostart do a lot to help as well. These are a little more complex but once you learn the process it will become second nature as you design and build your sites.
The iLife suite contains all the tools you need to accomplish this stuff; and your text editor in your applications folder is ready and waiting to help you with the simple post publishing tasks.

  • Playbook Existing Functionality Peeves

There are many things I liked about the Playbook, even over the iPad.  But the design (or lack thereof) of some of the functionalities are indeed annoying.  Almost enough for me to think about a Galaxy or iPad: -
    1. Default Songs/Videos - There is no way to delete these!  This is especially so with those annoying sample songs.   and it is infuriating to hear them popping up when playing 'all songs'.
    2. Browser Issues - including regular sudden crashing (closes by itself while loading page), unstabel page flickering, page loaded content suddenly disappeared after page loading completed
    3. Browser Pause - prevents multi-tasking of open applications.  The Browser stops when one tries to go to other opened applications at hte same time.  For example, it stops loading a page if I decided to 'flip' over to checkthe in-built Weather or Kobo.  But more annoying is when I want to hear a You Tube music.  It just stops playing when I want to have the music but read Kobo at the same time.  This makes 'Multi-Application' claim a joke.
    4.  'Spooling' Opened Applications - Why is this not continuous?  If I have 3 applications opened and go from #1 to #2 and then #3, to get back to #1, I have to spool backwards pass #2 instead of all other tablets that allows a continuous loop.
    5.  Browser Favourites Ordering - Does not allow one to sort the order of the assigned shortcuts
    7.  On/Off button - Can you make it any harder to activate that button?  Not responsive and no tactile design.  Makes the buttons of a 1980 Ford Taurus feels like a German design.

You might want to reconsider - the iPad's browser doesn't have a home button either.

  • Beginner's peeves and questions

I have just really started working in Muse this week and this is my beginner's list of things I think need to change or be included (save for font issues). I've worked in ID, PS and IL for over ten years and Muse does not feel like part of the Adobe family.
If anyone had answers to my questions or I'm missing some things, please holler! Thanks!
default strokes are most annoying—to have to remove a stroke from four states almost always is extra work (just once on every new object is a bother too)
need a pasteboard area that doesn't translate to previews
would be sweet to have svg and vector graphic in app editing
why do svg graphics appear low res?
would like to be able to import ase swatch files
to view swatches in list view with hex values
to edit styles, not just redefine them
phone, tablet, desktop—should be small, medium and large
    make fluid/liquid responsive-friendly
need to work on the crashes

    Problem #1:
You have defined a font size (8px - which btw, renders extremely small on my 1440x900 laptop, suggestion to follow) for the "a" tag.  Because of this any link regardless of where it is will be that font size.  Personally speaking I would recommend taking the font-size off of the "a" tag in your CSS document and then let the other classes control the font size throughout your page.
    Problem #2:
You defined a class fine, but links do not work on a class.  They will always work on a:link, a:active, a:visited, and a:hover.  With this in mind what you need to do to change the color of links in a particular area is to do the following:
    .link-typeA a { CSS stuff goes here }
That will change the links in that class to have certain features.
    Problem #3:
This has to do with code in the header of your page where you have re-declared link styles.  Delete that from your page and you will be set
Now back to Problem #1 about the fonts.  Your best bet is to use "em" to define your font size.  Think of the EM like a multiplier.  It takes the default size of the end-users settings and 1.1em would be 1.1x larger than the default font, 2em would be twice as large, and .5em would be half the size. This way your text is readable on all screens regardless of the end-users resolution.

  • Permissions have me peeved again

I am trying to move data around on an external hard drive that consists of a backup of my macbookpro. I am accessing this drive from my MacPro as the laptop is in the shop.
I have a "Library" folder and then I have a folder that says "Laptop Backup". In this folder is a folder that says "Library". I am simply trying to move the "Library" folder into the "Laptop Backup" folder because the "Library" folder in there has no data.
When moving the library folder I am told that I don't have permission to move this folder.
Am I correct in thinking that NO DATA AT ALL has been moved when I get this prompt?
Also, how do I get The Mac to let me move files how and when I want when I run into this rather annoying issue. It seems to come up now and then and I have not prepared a way to address it easily.
    Thanks.
    Jon

You only move Music, Documents, Pictures, Movies, not Library. Those contain application and other support files specific to that user.

  • I'm starting to get really peeved off!! I want to contact someone not go on a stupid forum!!

How do I get customer support??

Since you don't tell us anything about your product or problem, all I can give you is http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html

  • Hassle with Digital Copy - Peeved at Customer Service

I bought Sex and the City: The Move (extended cut) that came with a digital copy. When I redeemed my digital copy it had me download the theatrical cut instead of the extended cut. I did the whole “Report a Problem” bit in iTunes which kicked me to Apple’s support page to contact someone. I did and the person I’m speaking with doesn’t appear to speak English or understand my situation.
Customer Service (aka “Judy”) says, “Cristina you would be able to get the original cut of the movie for your iPod would not be play the extended cut of the Sex and the City movie for the file would be too big.” Now, honestly I don’t know what she is talking about so I assumed she was trying to tell me I couldn’t have the extended cut because the file is too big? Um then why do you have the extended cut for download in the iTunes Store?
I stood my ground saying stating this weirdness; I also resubmitted my support ticket to possibly get someone else to help me as well. She responded this morning saying I get 3 video credits, and that if I have anymore issues I should take it up with Fox’s Digital Copy Site; too bad my movie is by New Line Cinema, so that doesn’t help me very much.
With my credits in tow, I proceeded to download the extended cut. Once my download begins I get some kind of warning message saying my video credit only works on some movies. The movie was charged to my credit card instead of being redeemed through my video credits. I reported the problem through iTunes again, and I replied to the current Customer Service rep that's been helping me.
I'm getting really frustrated with this. Any idea if there is anything else I should do other than what I'm already doing? All I wanted was the correct copy. I thought I was getting that through the video credit. Now I have $15 on my credit card.

  • Peeved due to new Microsoft software being less us...

I wish to get a new Nokia lumia 820 but am hesitant to do so currently because it seems it will be worse for me than keeping my old mini N97
I always loved Nokia because I could synch my N97 with my computer through ovi suite
with ovi suite it was easy to move files as in music and photos from computer to phone and vice versa
however I know understand that a GREAT feature of ove suite which was to see text messages on my computer screen and reply from my keyboard is NOT available through Zune
Nokia and Moicrosoft - please see what features we had with Nokia PC Suite and Ovi suite and develop Zune to at least give us the same features and capabilities
otherwise I and others may have to stay with our old phones as the old phone/computer software combination is actually a better solution for us

The 820 does not use Zune, you copy music , pictures and video by just dragging to the phone. There is no way to view textmessages on a PC.. Using the cloud for storage and sync is the way forward, you either live with it or find a phopne which does things through a cable and hope your PC/laptop never crashes or gets stolen.
BTW, if this is such an issue please also do not use email or a webbrowser on your PC at home as these are much more likely to deliver harmful content to your PC or get your personal data stolen.

  • Am I the only one peeved at the hardware requirements for leopard?

I've got a G3 with a 650Mhz G4 in it with 1 gig of ram, and am a bit dismayed that it looks like I'll have to break the DMCA to install leopard. While my computer might be pretty pokey, I don't create digital media content or do anything on it that is too CPU intensive. I hope that apple includes some way to bypass their hardware requirements. While i realize that they put in these requirements to ensure that their OS looks creamy smooth on what ever it's installed on, I find that it is memory size, graphics card and disk access speed, more than CPU speed that dictates weather or not an OS can run satisfactorily on any given system. I should probably be posting this in the G4 section but I see from the sigs. in here that there are a lot of G4s hiding in blue boxes.
    Any thoughts?

True indeed. I have three flavors of Mac OS on my computer, 8.6 9.2.2 and 10.4.10 and they all still have "teh snappy", (though i must admit 8.6 runs like its on fire). Sure photoshop drags a bit in 10.4 but the OS still runs great. The irony is that each new version of OSX seemed to run faster than the previous. I was hoping that with 10.5 and a MacHacked nVidia 5200 video card, I could tease my $windlelowes buddies with a piece of vintage hardware that puts their Vasta bloat-boxes to shame. Ah well I guess there's always Linux©.

  • 3 more pet peeves...

    are:
    1) The key command to open the trash, opens an arrange window but there are no deleted sequences inside. I can't find "Open Trash" in the menus - There is no "dot" next to it in key commands but I can't find the menu anywhere and I searched the manual and couldn't find it either.. If you empty the trash, it does delete your old stuff. But what I want is to be able to selectively bring back a midi region I deleted, rathar than going back through undo steps.
    2) dragging any value downwards in the Tempo List results in dragging down the sub frames as well
    3) REX files don't play in "Import Audio" dialog any more

Yeah, I'm über-new to Logic, and even I discovered that you can easily copy/drag an insert to another channel in the mixer.
In the Mixer window, you either select the hand tool on the far left side, or I think you can Command-Click to automatically switch to the hand tool. Then you hold down Option while clicking and dragging, and the insert will be copied to wherever you drag it.
    Hope this helps!

  • Today's Pet Peeve Jive Forum Bug

In the long series of things we all live with and tend to overlook...
Not only does the editor insert newlines and force the cursor to the end of the line once in most messages, but sometimes it loses edits.
For example, make a post, see a typo, go back to edit, make the change very quickly, then repost.
If you're quick about it, the change is likely lost.  The more coffee, the more likely.
I think it may be that you have to edit a post for a certain amount of time before the edit is accepted, but I'm not completely sure.  Maybe this is the same amount of time that normally elapses before the newline/end-of-line thing.  Maybe this is some kind of misguided security feature or protection against double posting - I don't know, but it's damned irritating to have to do things twice!
    -Noel

Sometimes I have had to reedit twice, amounting todoing things thrice; I try to remember always to copy the edit before updating the post.
I mentioned this issue in the Joke of the Day thread the first time I tried it. http://forums.adobe.com/message/3599523#3599523

  • Pet peeve about "Play from Start/Resume Play"

Maybe it's me... but it seems like these two functions alternate their locations on the menu.  Some times PFS is first, sometimes RP is first.
What sucks, is if I'm not thinking... and do it too quickly I end up having to start from the beginning....and then fast forward through the show to my spot.
RESUME PLAY should always be first in the list and the default option.  As it's easy to correct the mistake of pressing "resume play" where it's not that easy to correct the mistake of "play from start."

I don't know what the Classic would do that, but I can offer a solution of sorts. Create a Smart Playlist where you uncheck the first box that matches various rules and then check the one for "Limit to...". Also check off Live updating and mathc only checked items if you like. So for the Limit to... line try this...
Limit to ### items selected by least recently played
where the Red items are the ones you can change. The ### one replace with an appropriate number like 200, 500, whatever. Just pick something a little larger than you normally would hear in a day at the studio.
So what happens is as you play stuff they become the MOST recently played and when you stop the iPod and it dumps out of the playlist, when you go back in all those MOST recently played items will have been taken out of the playlist and replaced with different least recently played.
So even though your playlist is starting over again, you won't be hearing anything you heard the day before or even for the last month or so with 100GB of music.

  • Macbook4,1 10.6.8 and firmware update - what went wrong?

Macbook 4,1 2008 2.4Ghz (not unibody). I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled 10.6 from the Retail DVD and all seemed to go well. The MB was working fine up to that point. I then set up the MB (network, date and time, etc.) and repaired permissions.
I then checked Software Update and downloaded and installed the recommended updates to 10.6.8.
Again, all seemed to go fine. System booted and I repaired Permissions again. I went to the Apple web site, a couple of other web sites, and Software Update found another update to install: Firmware. Though I don't remember what version.
I clicked OK and it installed.
Upon reboot, it seemed to install okay.
But then I left the Macbook and it went into Sleep.
I didn't come back to it again until the next day.
When I pressed a key to wake it, I got what I now know is the screen that appears after you wake it from SAFE SLEEP. As per this Apple KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1757.
And this is where the problems started.
After the MB woke to the Safe Sleep screen, which shows the desktop a little "out of focus", the progress bars started filling in from left to right, BUT before they completed, the screen went BLACK.
And it has had a problem with black screen ever since. I can boot the MB from internal or external HD or from DVD, and it seems to boot fine. Boot chime, Apple logo, spinning wheel, then at the point where it pauses, blue screen, then goes to desktop, instead the screen goes black.
It finishes booting, but seems to go into Sleep.
I can wake it by pressing a key, but the screen either comes on and goes black again after 10 seconds, or I get the Safe Sleep wake screen, and then it goes black after 10 seconds.
And at boot or when waking the MB, the front LED flashes 5 times. There are no error beeps.
I've tried changing RAM, but problems remain.
So what's all this? Any ideas?
The display doesn't seem dead, as it works to boot and wake. The MB works fine with external monitor.
It's weird, but I can't think of anything apart from the Firmware update. The problems started right after installing it.
Unfortunately, this model of Macbook doesn't have a Firmware Restoration image to download and burn to CD. It is the ONLY Mac at this point that doesn't have this!
I called Apple support and even bought the 49 Euro Pay Per Incident service, which proved to be the same as throwing 49 Euro out the window. The only "technical" support they provided was to Reset the SMC, which you can find out about FOR FREE at the Apple website. And which I'd done anyway. I'd also reinstalled the MacOS. Don't want to beef too much, but sheesh, you've already got a Macbook that might need costly repairs, and they make you pay 49 Euro BEFORE they even ask you about the problem and what you've done to try to solve it. I'm tempted to say "ripoff". I mean, if all they can offer you is the advice to reset the SMC - which Apple offers for free at their website - then that's pretty poor service for 49 Euro, to say the least.
Apart from the wasted 49 Euro, I'm pretty peeved about the Firmware update (or so it seems) wrecking a perfectly working 2008 Macbook. I don't know how to convince Apple of this, but I'm certainly going to try.

    Thanks for the reply.
Re. the Displays setting, the Macbook display isn't recognized and mirroring isn't an available option.
I've scoured the net and the idea of replacing the PRAM battery may be something to try. I read a post by a guy with a Macbook logic board screwed up by a Firmware update, which he solved by replacing the PRAM battery, as when you disconnect it you reset the logic board.
    Which capacitor?
No luck so far with talking to Apple. I will try to get hold of someone a little more tech savvy and/or in a position of authority, as it seems that the Firmware is the culprit. Obviously a million other things could go wrong with a Macbook, but given the timing here it looks like the Firmware. Firmware updates can and occasionally do screw up a computer, as most manufacturers will warn you before you apply the update: PC makers, printer makers, etc. And they probably warn you that it's all your responsibility if anything goes wrong. But re. the Apple Firmware update:
    1) it came thru Software Update
    2) there was no warning
    3) to make things worse, there's no Firmware Restoration image that I can burn to a CD to reflash the logic board: this is the only Apple computer that doesn't have a Firmware Restoration option
I'll try to get thru to a manager and convince him/her that the firmware may have been the cause.
Do you think an authorized Apple tech might have access to some way to do a firmware restoration? Something not avaiable to mere mortals? Because if not, the only solution looks like a new logic board.
