5 computer limit for iTunes.

Hi,
I've been living in Viet Nam for 15 years and in the last 12 months have had my pc die of old age, a pc at work burn out and require new motherboard or something! And then same repaired computer stolen.
Everytime i re download iTunes i'm using up my 5 computer limit, if I install it on my latest work computer it will be number 4. which only leaves me one left for when I return to live in Australia. I've sent a support email to itunes support and recieved a reply accepting that they have my question, but 2 weeks later no response. Does anyone know how to reset my 5 computer limit?
Cheers

To issue the deathorise all command you need to sign to your account from iTunes running on a computer. You also can't use the feature again for a year, though I gather that sometimes the store support staff can reissue it earlier in exceptional circumstances. I would suggest you don't leave your password saved on any of your devices. That way if a device is stolen they might have access to the current content (though in practice they probably wipe for a quick sale) but they won't be able to make new purchases on your line of credit.

Isn't the five computer limit for home sharing restrictive given the many devices one household may have?

It is only restrictive if you have more than 5 computers.
Otherwise it is not restrictive at all.
devices do not count, only computers.
You have more than 5 computers on the same home network.

  • Is there a MB limit for iTunes matching?

I recall there being a 5GB "Free" limit for iCloud, but does that include iTunes music matching?  It seems that my music library of > 6000 songs has a great number that iTunes matching is uploading (i.e., not in the iTunes Store) so I'll certainly blow that 5GB limit.  Will I be charged beyond the $25 I already paid for iTunes Matching?

Not sure where it is documented.....However this is from personal experience from using the service.

  • 2 Computer limit for CS6

I am enrolled at Academy of Art university and received a student version of CS6 for my classes.  I know there is a limit saying you can install the program on up to 2 computers.  I first installed the program on my compaq laptop.  Then I realized I needed a better processor to run certain programs so I wiped the hard drive and sold the computer to buy a new laptop.  I installed CS6 on the second laptop.  Worked great.  I recently bought a desktop computer and installed CS6 on there as well.  Now I get the message about the 2 computer limit.  I understand that the program has been installed on 3 different computers.  How can I eliminate the 1st computer I installed the program on then sold?  I have no way to get the computer seeing as its no longer in my possession.  I have to have these programs for school.

Fintan for information on how to download Adobe software please see http://forums.adobe.com/message/5418120#5418120.  Also if you have purchased the software from Adobe and choose the download option then it will be available under your account.

  • Computer authorization for itunes

i've read several post about this already and have tried different ways to authorize itunes for my mac pro. i have been getting an error code 42408 and read on another post to go to the itunes store , deauthorize, and reauthorize. this had worked for a few people, well not this guy. now i cant seem to authorize it again. i have quite the music library, and recently have added a bunch of music for my toddlers and their childcare. i really need to be able to get access again. can someone please help me out.

There is a limit as to how many can be authorized, if you no longer are using a computer you need to deauthorize it.  You can deauthorize all your devices.iTunes>store>then reauthorize the ones you want to have functional, if you want to add program to a deauthorized device and you are at your limit, deauthorize a device, then authorize the new one and download to it. You may have to repeat this process to "pass stuff around"  Hope this helps.   ATB

  • My PC OS rebuilt several times due to malware. Apple says I have reached 5 PC limit for itunes. Makes me furious at APPLe. How do I just get to my music which an rebuilding again?

It is the same 2008 HP PC..the OS has been rebuilt several times because of malware.I know to back up my music but I must still replace track by track. The new Itunes makes a grave error by not allowing folders/albums to be loaded anymore. Anyway, I want Apple to stop this 5 pc limit as it is one PC with new OS. What do I do to get Apple to stop this nonsense? Why can't I load my albums entire content? Thanks in advance.

Apple are the least of your problems and they will reset your computer count without issue.
As for you Windows Malware issues they ARE a consern and you are likely carrying out security and risky Internet usage.
    Open iTunes.
    Select the iTunes Store
    Sign into your iTunes Account.
Click on your account name and choose account
    In separate window that appears
    Enter your account password again
The iTunes browsers window now shows all your account details
Click on button next to authorized computer count to deauthorize ALL computers. You can do this annually.
You can also get Apple to reset all your computers at any time by visiting this link.
It usually takes 24 hours for Apple to carry out your request.

Next I strongly recommend you stop loading Windows IE tool bars and be very careful what you do when visiting social network sites.
    Disable Java and Flash.
And never use Torrents to download illegal films/music/games or unsigned software.
    Have a nice day .

  • Is there a character limit for iTunes U course postings when viewing in iOS app?

I have created a course in iTunes U using the web interface, but when I view the course on my iPad it doesn't show the entire post. Is there a character limit in the app or something for what will display?
To make things even stranger, I went back to the course editor in my browser and saved it again (effectively re-posting it) and when I restarted the iTunes U app in iOS the post was cut even shorter!  I'm using an iPad 3rd gen with iOS 6.0.1.

No, there is no workaround. You would need to find a downloadable copy of old apps.

  • I've bumped into the five (5) device limit for iTunes... and have to wait until Nov. 2012 for the the Apple "dispensation" to reauthorize all 5 at once! Any ideas?

I am an enthusiastic convert from IBM PC compatibles to Apple OS!  But, I'm bumping up against the problem of not being able to deauthorize devices which have been given away, and thus I'm not able to deauthorize my iTunes account on those devices.  I'm aware that one can deauthorise ALL once a year, but in my case I did that on November 4, 2011.  So, am I "stuck" until that year is up?
My most recent problem is the 27" iMac that was one of the authorized computers has a hard drive that has failed, and I'm not able to access anything with it! In fact, it's in an authorized Apple repair center to have the hard drive WIPED before shipping it to Apple for TLC!
Any suggestions?  I can provide proof in the form of Apple emails that the hard drive has failed, and the 27" iMac has been replaced by another.....

You need to send an email from this link
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
Apple may deauthorise them as an exception for you (they have for me in the past)

There is a guy with 170,000 songs. There may be even bigger libraries out there.

  • Slideshow mistakenly believes computer is not authroized for Itunes

When I opt for doing a slideshow and request to use a playlist from my Itunes application, iPhoto claims my computer is not authroized to play those tunes. I have not problem using Itunes indepently (it knows the computer is authroized).
Can anyone suggest a fix for this problem?
I have recently upgraded my laptop with new memory and a new harddrive. During that exercise, I did have to re-authorize my computer. Since then Itunes works fine but iPhoto complains. I have OSX 10.3.9 with iPhoto v2.0.1 and Itunes v4.7.1

Here's what happend when I removed the 2 files you mentioned and then ran iTunes & iPhoto in that order ( I couldn't delete the iMovie & iDVD -- the former I have never run before so that's probably why the "plist preferences file didn't exist" and for reasons I don't know, iDVD didn't get installed when I upgraded to 10.3.9. Anyway I assumed just working with iTunes and IPhoto would suffice. After deleting the 2 preference files I ran iTunes again (no problems here). Then I ran iPhoto. Unlike last time, iPhoto this time recognized that I had iTunes and it listed my playlists on the Slide Show dialog . However, when I requested music to be played from my iTunes playlist, the same error occured -- iPhoto gave me a error message that "this computer wasn't authorized to play purchased music in iPhoto." It told me to go to the music store and authorize the computer -- I declined because iTunes already knows I am authrized and I don't want to use up my limit (its 5) of allowed computers to play my purchased iTunes music.
I struck out on a new plan. I figured there was no harm in de-authorizing my computer temporarily in iTunes and then re-authorize it when I'm prompted to do so from iPhoto (when I run the slide show). Well, here's what happend. I de-authorized my computer from iTunes and then quit iTunes. I launched iPhoto and attempted to run my slide show. When the Slide show dialog complained about authroization again, I answered positively to iPhoto's offer to send me to the iTunes music store to authorize this computer. Now, here's the interesting part of the story -- just after re-authorizing the computer, iPhoto put up an error message as follows:
"Quicktime 6.5.2 or later is required to use Music purchased from the iTunes Music Store (such as iPhoto or iMovie)." But I had Quicktime 6.4 installed.
So its not the mis-aligned application preferences that's the problem, its the fact that its really Quicktimes audio playing capabilities that are used in iPhoto's slide show. Isn't that weird? And .... if you don't have the right pedigree of Quicktime, you will run into the problems that prompted my original post.
So, I installed QT 6.5.2 (the apple download site and the OSX Updater made it difficult for me not to choose QT 7.3 but I've heard there's some questionable tradeoff issues with QT Pro 6.0 if I do that -- so I opted not to and instead instead installed 6.5.2 with much perseverance). After the installation I ran QT 6.5.2 just to make sure it worked and to ensure its preference files were ready in my ~user/Library/Preferences folder. Then I reran iPhot and Voila !, I was now able to run a slide show with music from my purchased music from iTunes -- w/o having to deal with iTunes computer authroizaion issues.
So, it a nutshell, here's what someone shoud do if they have they are having iPhoto incorrectly complain about iTunes computer authorization.
    (1) Check to make sure you have Quicktime 6.5.2 or later installed.
    (2) If not, install QT 6.5.2 or the Apple recommended later version (QT 7), if the user is comfortable running with QT 7.
    (3) Run QT after installation to ensure its preferences and configuration are saved in the user's Library/Preferences folder so that other applications (i.e., iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD) can correctly configure their music playing functions to use iTunes purchased music.
Sorry for being long winded but I wanted to be complete for whover runs into this problem.

  • My computer was stolen so I deauthorized all computers that had iTunes on them on 10/28/2011.  I have a new computer and it was authorized for iTunes.  When I checked my account it says I have 2 authorized computers, but this one should be the only one.

My computer was stolen so I deauthorized all computers that had iTunes on them on 10/28/2011.  I have a new computer and it was authorized for iTunes.  When I checked my account it says I have 2 authorized computers, but this new computer should be the only one. How can I deauthorize whatever the other computer is?  I don't want whoever stole my old computer to be able to use my iTunes account.

Get all that music back in itunes and sync again.

  • I have double IDs for Itunes.  How can I delete one without losing my music.  Also, I want to synce my new desktop computer with my older i4s.  All devices are registered to do so.  However, last time I tried I almost lost all music and Itunes BARELY supp

I have double ID's for Itunes.  How can I keep all my music and get rid of the ID that I do not want.  It was an issue when I tried to transfer music ..  I contacted Itunes and they BARELY helped me get the music back.  They also would only allow me to chose one ID to replenish the music (wich was lost) to my new device.  So, I chose the ID that showed more music.  I am irritated that I still have 2 ID's and can't really figure out why they both have the same music.   Oldest to newest purchases are shown on both id's.  Also, I am afraid to sync now because they told me it was a one time deal.  When docked my phone to my new computer all of the music is shown on my computer now.  However not on my I phone.

I had the same problem. I solved by (I use Windows7, should be same for OSX):
    1. copying the library from the older computer to the new computer, at the usual itunes media location.
    2. on new computer's itunes preference (advance), uncheck the box "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library"
    3. open up this folder of media copied over from old computer, just drag over to itunes library, cursor will turn into plus sign.
    4. since you unchecked the box for "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library", you are in effect only growring the new computer's itunes library's database. Your media files are already under the folder on the new computer.
Now when you connect iphone to this new computer and tells you it wants to erase your iphone's library in order to sync with this one, go ahead, click yes. Why is this ok now? Because you've copied all your files over to the new computer. So when you sync again, your existing files are there on the new computer.
You should export play lists on the older computer to be imported on the new computer though.
