50 fps timebase presets ?

Hi all
i have to edit in timeline some footage shoot at 1280x720 50P, but 50fps is not on timebase presets. The nearest preset is 59,94 but this should speed up my footage. How can i solve this ?

I use a gopro hero 2 to make some short films.   I made this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwWU83oGGx0  video with DSLR 720 60 FPS preset, and let the program choose export. I don't like the black bars on the side of the video. How do I get rid of that? I want it full screen like all the other GOPRO videos. Anyone help me with this, thanks.

  • Custom Timebase in sequence settings for 15 fps animation

I have an stop-motion project, where we are capturing images to playback at 15 frames per second. I have set up FCP to do this in the past, but I cannot find where the preference is. I thought you could just set your sequence settings to use a 15 fps timebase, but all of the options are from 24p to 60. I have an older project file that has the 15 fps timebase, so i could just copy that sequence, but am I missing the obvious preference option to make a 15 fps sequence, or did they take that option away between fcp 3 and 4.5?

I was thinking about working at 30 fps, and setting the image sequences to use a two second rather than one second duration to simulate the 15 fps playback rate of the movie, but the problem is that the cut made in fcp is only an offline edit, made using lo-quality quicktimes that have to be replaced with the original image sequences for the final export.
Its not to big of an adjustment to do this, but I don't see why I have to now, and didn't need to before, especially since I will double my file sizes.

  • How can I convert 30 fps edited footage to 29.97 in prem 6?

I have 11 minutes of footage that I want to be able to send to my dv camcorder and then burn the dvd but the problem is I edited all of the footage in a 30 fps timebase and when I open the project up in 29.97 premiere tells me that it will add gliches, etc. and sure enough it does and the audio levels are different. How can i fix this without having to re-edit all of my footage?

A free converter that will convert AVCHD to Premiere Elements compatible hi-def MPEG2 is the Free AVCHD Converter, available from:
    http://www.koyotesoft.com
According tp Paul Scrivener, you should up the bit rate to 25000kb/s and convert, and it will export 1920x1080 MPEG2.
One downside is that, when you install it, it automatically downloads a search tool to your browser toolbar -- but it can easily be removed using Add/Remove Programs.
For easy editing of AVCHD and even conversion to standard DV-AVI, a great buy is Corel VideoStudio Pro X2. This editor/converter sells for $59.99.

  • Issue with live playback while editing - Premiere Elements 10

Hi there, It's been a while since I used Premiere, and decided that I would make a video. I've copied all of the media across and started editing the clip. I dragged the first clip onto the timeline and clicked the play button so I could find where I wanted to make the first cut. And there was no video, just a still frame from where the marker was. If I click the live playback area, it pauses the video and updates the still. I have tried updating the software to see if it was a bug that had been patched, but it's still there. I've never had this issue before, and would appreciate any help you guys could lend.
    Thanks in advance,

I've been reading this with interest because I'm having the same issue since updating the nVidia drivers at the end of November.  There is a conflict that is NOT resolved by completely uninstalling and rolling the drivers back.
Previews just will not display in the monitor in Adobe Premiere Elements 11. Audio is fine.
Clicking on the monitor window allows me to view the frame, and I can advance the frames one at a time and view them, but when I select 'Play' I just get a blank screen.

  • 24fps project. Q&A

I'll working on a project in the upcoming weeks, is an animated/video. The video footage is standard DV 29.97fps, the animated part of the project will be done at 24fps. The end result of the project will be for standard video, DVD.
What will be the best approach for this kind of project, in FCP?
Any guidelines that I should take in considerations, working with 24fps and 29.97fps material?
Do I have to convert the video to 24fps in a editing base time line of 24fps?
    Thanks in advance.

there are a number of ways to accomplish this workflow and here's one way that i would approach it. i'm assuming the animation is true 24 fps so conform that in cinema tools to 23.98 fps. then you can either convert your video to 23.98 or add pulldown to your animation to make it 29.97, either way will work and you can accomplish both with graeme nattress' film effects or standards conversion http://www.nattress.com/standardsConversion.htm
you will have to weigh the pros and cons of editing in a 23.98 fps or 29.97 fps timebase and making the video conversions to fit. either timebase will work well for dvd release.

  • Compressing Video for DVD Burn Makes Text Look jagged

    Hello,
I'm currently at the final steps of a lengthy video production project and am struggling to make the text elements of my finished video display correctly after compression prior to burning it to DVD.
I create and produce music for a living and don't have nearly as much experience with video editing. I'm a bit new to all of this and am using FCE 4.0.1 to create my video & Compressor and DVD Studio Pro 2 to compress and author video for DVD.
    *My main issue is this:*
I'm using an imported still image as the title card for my film. It's a mixture of large plain Helvetica Neu font text with some additional stylized lettering created in Photoshop (which is why I'm not using FCE's built-in text generators for the title card). The typography isn't very wild and crazy, it's basically big bold letters and a few gentle curves. I exported the image (1200x600) from Photoshop as a .png and imported it into FCE.
When I export my finished video file (.png title card and all) out of FCE, I export it as a raw uncompressed Quicktime file:
    Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i
    29.97 fps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (1440x1080) (Anamorphic not checked).
    Field Dominance: Upper (Odd).
(It displays in quicktime at 1920x1080 though.)
After initially exporting from FCE, the title card image and all the other text in my movie created from FCE's built-in text generators look fine. It's only after I compress the finished movie in DVD Studio Pro or Compressor that I get jagged looking edges on the curves of my letters, primarily the title card image (the text generated by FCE's generators holds up okay).
In compressor I'm using the "MPEG-2 6.2 Mbps 2-pass settings for DVD" preset and in DVD Studio Pro. Using '2 pass VBR', 'Best' motion tracking, 'best' and 'highest quality' on all the compression settings I can find. I'm encoding at a total rate of 6.5Mb/sec max and 6Mb/sec average. These are standards for compressing to DVD and since I'm preparing a master for reproduction, I've been told I shouldn't increase the data rate over this or I'll run into player compatibility issues down the line.
Any ideas on how I can make this text image last through the compression process and still look clean and crisp without having to increase the data rate of compression? I'm going to play with different file formats for now, but it that doesn't work I don't know where to go from there.
Thank you for any help insights you can provide.

I started with a variety of HD raw footage (most of it gathered on Canon 5D Mkii SLR Digital camera in the form of: H.624 1920x1080) but converted all my raw footage prior to editing into:
    Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i
    29.97 fps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (1440x1080) (Anamorphic not checked).
    Field Dominance: Upper (Odd).
I edited everything in Final Cut Express 4.0.1 using the AVCHD Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i60 at 29.97 fps sequence preset.
When I finished editing all my video I exported it as a raw uncompressed quicktime file which is also:
    Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i
    29.97 fps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (1440x1080) (Anamorphic not checked).
    Field Dominance: Upper (Odd).
But when played in quicktime this finished video displays at 1920x1080, which I'm happy with. (I'm assuming this is the proper behavior of Apple Intermediate Codec? It seemed to take 1920x1080 footage, converted it to 1440x1080, and then spit it back out as 1920x1080 after the whole editing process.)
But seeing as how my issue is with an image file I'm creating in Photoshop and importing into my video sequence, I don't quite understand how the rest of my footage would really effect it. I've made sure to create the image using the same dimensions and pixel aspect ratio as my sequence frames by using one of the standard Photoshop screen templates (HD widescreen 1440x1080). I save my title card image as a non-interlaced .png file and import it into FCE.
When I place the imported image on the timeline, FCE doesn't resize it because it matches the frame dimensions of the sequence. When I view the image at 100% in FCE's viewer all of the image's lines, curves, and shapes display properly as they appear in my original photoshop file.
But for some reason FCE treats this imported .png image file as a 'rendered proxy.' So while it looks fine in FCE prior to rendering and exporting, when I export the video sequence containing this newly imported title card image, the resulting uncompressed quicktime file contains jagged horizontal lines across some of the characters in the title card image. It almost looks as if there's some interlacing issue going on.
However after much experimentation and trial and error I landed on a custom compression setting in Compressor that seemed to take care of this issue. I did as you recommended and selected a high quality 7.5 Mbps encoding preset (7.5 Mbps max/6.4 Mbps average), but noticed a 2 pass VBR rendered better results. What really seemed to do the trick was adding a deinterlace filter to the compression preset, and that miraculously seemed to eliminate the jagged lines in my title card image, restoring it to its original appearance (at least during my initial inspection in Compressor's preview mode).
After letting Compressor crank away, I looked at the finished compressed video in quicktime and the jagged interlaced-looking lines in my title card image have returned. Compressor's preview was somehow misguided.
Now my plan is to burn this compressed video to a DVD and view it on a TV to see if maybe these jagged lines in the final compressed version are only being caused by viewing on my computer's monitor. I'm hoping this is the case, otherwise I'm at a loss of what to do next.
If you need any more details please let me know. Otherwise I hope this is enough to give you a better idea of what issues I'm dealing with.
    Thanks again for your insights.

  • [Alternate found] gtk-recordmydesktop - incorrect video speed

    Hello bbs.archlinux.org!
When I record my screen with gtk-recordmydesktop and then watch the result later - it just doesn't go as is was going when recorded. Video has pauses and between those pauses it kinda goes a little faster. I know the speed I type with. And when I watch it on the video it goes FAST for several chars (faster than I type) and then makes pause which I don't make when type. Even after converting OGV video into AVI (I suggested this might help) it's still incorrect.
    What am I doing wrong?

recordmydesktop is quite bad for capturing IMO. I have the same problem even with quite beefy CPU, use ffmpeg instead (and glc for openGL applications).
Also more desktop suited kernel helps, such as -ck. Or realtime one even better if you don't mind the high CPU usage.

  • Purple Highlights - Really strong and not good

What the heck is this and how do I make it go away? IR?? Sensor Flaw?  There is no pink or purple glitter or rocks or anything like that in the water.   Looked perfectly normal to the human eye with no purple highlights in the water. Fujinon 19-90 Cabrio - ND filter inside camera and ND.6 in front of lens - no pola or enhancer or IR filterF5 shooting XAVC  - 180 Fps   - Timebase 29.97 Thank you for any help.

Hi, Mike, When I see purple [highlights or fringing], I think chromatic aberration. With all that ND in, you must have had a fairly wide aperture.  Wide apertures tend to exacerbate the combination of spatial and chromatic aberrations.  It's a torture test for lenses. Here is a link to a white paper by Canon about 4K optics and aberrations.http://www.usa.canon.com/CUSA/assets/app/images/cameras/cine_lenses/4k_optics/White-Paper-What-Constitutes-a-High-Performance-4K-Lens.pdf Is your Cabrio an early production model, or the newer release?  The early production examples were not claimed to be 4K lenses.  The newer release versions I have been assured are 4K quality. In one of the threads about the purple grid artefacts there is a good discussion about the conversion to 2K images from a 4K sensor.  Depending on the algorithm, flaws in the image can be exaggerated or diminished. Try Dennis' suggestion to remove the ND, and see if that mitigates the purple highlights problem. Best regards,
WillPS. Fascinating, the link doesn't appear to be all there, but it works.

  • About fps...and selecting Sequence Presets

I have had some old (40 yrs) 8mm film converted to a digital format (mov). Now I would like to edit and splice the good bits together. On the properties of the *.mov I find I have DV/DVC Pro -NTS; movie FPS 16; playing FPS 16; data rate 15.35mbits/sec.
My first problem is picking the "right" Sequence Presets. None of the options seem to have a 16 FPS category. I selected the DV NTSC Standard 32khz. Was this my best choice? It seemed to be the closest..
My second problem is what format would be best to export it as.. this will eventually go on Facebook and possibly as a video on a personal web site. And.... is there away to extact a single frame as a image (jpg)
    Any advice most appreciated
    Thanks for your time

Thanks Bill for the quick response.
I see where I can change the FPS in"desktop" > Timebase. There is no option to change it later in that same dialog box under Display Format. The desktop selection also changes the Preview File Format to Microsoft AVI.. I guess.. that is all good??
I had the 8mm film converted by some guy who has a setup in his basement, found him in the Yellow Pages and I guess he would consider himself to be a professional telecine shop.  However he did not give me an option on framerates.. the subject never came up.. and I did not know there were options. I had  a third of the reels converted and plan to have the others done now that I see there is interesting stuff on them. Speculation was they would all be blank or so dark as to render them useless. Pleasant surprise to find they were not
As to the model of the camera... I have no idea , US brand, possibly bought from the Sears Catalog I would think and it was old.. predates any option for sound or super which came out much later

  • DVCPRO HD Footage at 720p50 -- should I do this as 25 fps or 50fps timebase

I am cutting a feature shot of P2 cards capturing the DVCPRO HD PAL footage as 720p50. (from the european Panasonic HVX200 camera)
While I am not experiencing many differences editing in FCP between the two options, I really want to resolve the question of working at a 25fps or 50fps timebase ASAP.
my instincts suggest working at 25fps (and the 720p50 plays back just fine at that rate). Am I missing something?
    Matt

Yes, this is the correct issue to bring up. Is there any way to test footage to make sure it was 720pN vs 720p flavors of 50fps? Because i can create a 50fps timeline and playback this media just fine or I can create a 25 fps timeline and this media plays fine. I just received the cards already copied to FCP, which makes me a bit nervous. I don't know whether FCP 6.0.1 doubled each progressive frame or what.
I know that QTP under the hood is extremely powerful, but I would love a tool or QTP frontend that would give me access to ALL information about media. Headers, flags, everything.
Thanks for mentioning this issue -- am I out of luck if the DP doesn't know the answer?

  • PREMIERE ELEMENTS 10 PRESET FOR JPEG 720P 30 FPS VIDEO

I have a Panasonic Lumic DMC FZ35 camera which can take videos in jpeg hd (720p) 30 fps.  What would be the appropriate preset?

There is no perfect setting for that video. It's not the best stuff for editing. (The camcorder is pretty made for shooting and then uploading to YouTube.)
But your best bet is probably the DSLR/720p 30 setting.
Although remember to render (press Enter) whenever you see red lines above the clips on your timeline!

  • Audio timebase fixed to 30 fps?

Hi, when trying to adjust the timecode of audio files (rightclick on clip > modify > timecode > set at beginning) the dialog only works in 30fps mode (e.g. 19;10;19;29)
Is there a way to change this?
I generally work in 25fps projects. So Premiere's Indeterminate Media Timebase is set to 25 fps
(Preferences > Media > Indeterminate Media Timebase)
For WAVs there is no Modify > Interpret footage
For testing, I exported a WAV from a 25fps timeline, importe it again and tried to adjust the timecode. But again, the dialog shows 30fps timecode.
However, when opening the WAV in the source panel, it works at a 25fps timebase.
Is this a bug? Or a (missing) feature? I does not seem to make sense to force a 30fps timecode on a WAV (which is at 48kHz). Should I file a bug report?
    Regards,
    Andreas

Hi Ann, do you mean the "Time Display Format" within the "Modify Clip" dialog? Right beneath the "Timecode" section?
Yes, I set that to 25 fps. But it seems to only affect the display within the Project Panel, nothing else.

  • Anyone know how I set up a new project at 1920x1080 59.94i fps ntsc when none of the presets match?

I have just bought Adobe Premiere Elements 10 here in the UK for my laptop: Windows Vista, 32bit OS, 2GB Ram.
I am editing a video I shot in NTSC format at 1920 x 1080, 59.94i frames per second (MPEG2 HD Long 35mbps), from a Sony XDCAM EX1 camcorder.
I notice that none of the Project Set Up Presets in Adobe Premiere Elements vs 10 have this matching format.
Therefore when I drag my video and play it on the timeline in a 30fps file set up, the frames per second is not matching the sound and it's jumpy!
Can I download any XDCAM EX1 camcorder presets for Adobe Premiere Elements 10? like there are for Adobe Premiere Pro CS5?
Also, will I have to upgrade my laptop for it to run properly?
Many thanks for this (from a really frustrated Editor, who is based in London and has already spent 5 months trying to get a Nero edit software working, and has replaced this with Adobe, because Nero finally admitted that their software doesnt work with MP4s!!!)

Yes, I agree with both of you. I understand that my camera may be more expensive than the edit software I am using. I am making a birthday video surprise for my brother's 40th birthday party. He lives permanently in the USA. I live in London. I run my own Video Production company. Therefore I cant edit a less-than-high-definition video, as it would look bad on my business. So I have been very prepared and shot it in NTSC format at a high res. The unfortunate thing is that I cant (without distress) take my desktop computer on holiday with me. That leaves me with a very basic laptop to edit all the stuff on. When I get to the US I will be filming the American relatives using the same camera, but Adobe Premiere Elements 10 is obviously not up to the job (as with my laptop - although I'm looking to upgrade my laptop to a better spec, without spending a fortune, although I cant change the Processor without buying a new laptop). So that is the conundrum I face. When you see these adverts on television for a news channel and you see the news anchor in a dangerous place with bullets flying past them and they're sitting at their laptop editing, or transferrring footage from the piece they have just done, it's all a load of "bollox" (excuse my French), because basically there isnt a laptop out there, or software that can handle high definition footage! By the time it takes me to figure out all of this I could have learnt to write my own editing software! (by the way, I am a massive fan of all things ADOBE). My friend, used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the film 'Monsters' and he's about to direct the next Godzilla movie!!!!!! So yes, it is fantastic. Steve, I have just uploaded the preset you suggested, however, the clip on my timeline isnt quite right. When I play the clip from the XDCAM clip browser software it is fine and plays at normal rate with sound and visuals in sync. However, when I play in the software the visuals play at half the speed of the sound/timeline line. When I run my processor guide it shows that just to play the clip the processor is at 100%, so I guess that the software might actually be working ok, but actually it's my laptop at fault. Although on the side of the Adobe Elements box it doesnt specify what processor spec you need to run the software. Oh deary me. Looks like it's back to the drawing board and that my bro isnt going to get his 40th birthday surprise video after all.....boo hoo! (I am only a girl after all! and so all of this is beyond my comprehension anyway...I should just go back to cleaning the dishes)!!!!!! Thanks very much for your advice! Lynds x

  • How to Set Indeterminate Media Timebase to 15.00 fps

I'm new to Premiere and i'm working on some renders which i have set a 15.00 fps. mi issue is that every time i import my 15 image sequence the default fps is 30 due to my many files it's taking me some serious time to individually change each sequence to 15 fps. Is there any methods to change the indeterminate media time base to 15?

Because I have a quite long video and rendering 24 images per second would last at least a month to get the full movie, 15fps works fine but although I created a sequence of 15 frames, my imports are still in a 30 fps
