6500A ios7 AirPrint

Hello,
I have an OfficeJet 6500A (E710N-z) which the HP support site says should be compatible and able to print via AirPrint.
however, as of a week or so back, the printer no longer shows up as available. We have several IOS7 devices, and we are no longer able to print to the printer from any of them.
I have a ping utility on my ipad, and i am able to ping the printer by its IP address. And yet I don't have any printers available when I try to "select Printer."
I have downloaded HP ePrint app, also Print Utility, and AiO remote, and none of these apps are able to locate the printer either.
I'm hoping someone in the forums can help me, please.

Sloan4

Hi Sloan4,
Try restarting your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds, turn it back on and allow a minute or two.
Turn the printer off and back on, then check for any difference.
For any issue, please let me know your routerbrand and model, as well make sure the printer have its latest firmware installed:

  • Apple Airprint to HP Officejet 6500A Plus via Wired Connection to Router

    Hi There,
So I've done a considerable amount of research into this across the internet and this forum and I'm still struggling to find a satisfactory solution.
I have an HP Officejet 6500A Plus connected by ethernet into my BT Homehub 3.
It is my understanding that even though this is a wired connection, as long as my iOS device (iPad 2 or iPhone 5) is connected to the same router, I should still be able to see this Officejet over through the airprint facility.
Unfortunately this is not the case. I only get the "No Airprint Printers Found" message on both devices. The only way I have managed to get my Mac Pro (Mavericks) to connect was to mannualy add using the IP address for the printer.
Can anyone give any guidance as to what I might be doing wrong? The printer is definitely connecting to the internet as I can print from my iOS devices using HP ePrint app for iOS.
Some might say well what is the problem, just use the HP app but this is not point. I believe if something has been implemented to make things easier then use it. I chose this printer specifically for this functionality so it's a little frustrating to find it so difficult to achieve the desired results.
Hope it's something straightforward and someone can help.
    Thanks,
    Steve

Further to this request, and reading many more similar issues, I think I may resolved this.
I am not 100% sure but I have read some threads suggesting there are issues around BT's Homehub 3 and bonjour so this may be an issue.
I have tried the following over the past couple of days...
    1) Completely reset my router (wiped all settings and started again) - No luck!
    2) Tried changing from WPA2 to just WPA security - No luck!
    3) Tried forwarding the bonjour ports to the printer - No luck!
    4) Switched off router, printer and all iOS devices then powered back router, printer and then iOS devices - Printer appears on iOS devices but when print was selected, iOS device repeatedly returned Printer Not Connected error.
Finally, what seems to have done it (at least for now) was...
    1) Unplugged ethernet from the Officejet and set it up as Wireless connection.
    2) Powered down router, printer and all iOS devices then powered back up in the order stated earlier.
    3) So far I have tried printing an email and a web page from my iOS devices and both have been sucessful.
Incidentally I had been struggling also to airplay from my iPhone and iPad until I started messing around with settings above and now this issue also seems to be resolved.
Due to variety of combinations (different printers, routers etc) people will have, it seems to be quite difficult to find a solution which addresses an individual problem however I hope some of my experimenting and findings might help others in some way.

  • AirPrint HP OfficeJet 6500A problem

I bought a new HP OfficeJet 6500A. Can print via AirPrint the very first day. Then, subsequently, can't no matter what I did or how I reset the config both the in iPad or HP printer. Downloaded the latest firmware in HP and later iOS in my iPad. What happen? Called Apple Care, they asked me to call HP. Called HP, the Indian helpdesk guy say he does not have an iPad, cannot check. Any help please?

    Kenny-
If you double-click the Home button on the iPad, a row of recent Apps will line up along the bottom of the screen.  Scroll across and look for the Print Queue.  It is possible you have a print job hanging up the queue.

  • HT4356 Has anyone else found that after ios7 download, my HP 5520 AirPrint printer is now listed with all the networks that my ipad  can see. This means that I have to change networks to the printer in order to print.

After downloading ios7 my printer occurs in the list of wifi networks. In order to print I have to go to settings and "join" the HP 5520 network. Then, when I am finished, I have to return and re-join my router's network.

    Hi Newent1,
Under a normal Airprint configuration, the printer should be joined to your primary wireless network as a client. That way, you should not have to switch networks to print (print data goes from iPad => router => printer). If something has changed in your configuration, you may need to set your printer back up to rejoin your network. You may find the troubleshooting portion of the following article helpful:

  • I cannot AirPrint from my iPad or iPhone since the upgrade to ios7.0.3

I see the recommendations home button, check recent apps tray. Is this from the iPad or the printer? I,m not finding it on either one.
All other computers are able to AirPrint.
My iPad sometimes connects to the printer but it never prints.

    1. Turn the router, iPad and printer off.
    2. Turn on the router and then wait 30 seconds to let it complete its start-up process.
    3. Turn on printer and then wait 30 seconds to let it complete its start-up process.
    4. Turn on your iPad and test print.

  • I just updated to iOS7 and Pages will not print using AirPrint!

Like the title says, Pages will not print. It's just a Pages issue. I can print using AirPrint when I print things from Safari or photos stored on my iPad. I've tried rebooting my router, "forgetting" my wifi connection and hooking it up again, I've exited Pages completely (so it's not running in the background) numerous times...nothing is working.
Strangely, Pages finds my printer just fine and goes through the motions of printing. It will tell me the usual "connecting to printer", "preparing printer", "now printing"...but nothing happens with the printer. It's like the connection between Pages and the printer gets lost somewhere. Pages used to print just fine before I updated to iOS 7. Whether that's just a coincidence or not, who knows. Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution?

I Also have the exact same issue, did you manage to resolve the issue?

  • HP Envy 4500 - cannot see from my IPAD 4 gen, does not airprint

    Dear all,
I hope you can help me. I cannot see my printer envy4500 from my IPAD 4 gen (IOS7.0.4). I've tried all, following also your instruction (reterived in this forum)to set a manual IP but it does not solve the problem. My router is wireless Belkin Surf N300 and it's on line, the printer is also on line in the same wireless network as also the IPAD. Only if I use the direct wireless I can see the printer, otherwise not. If I use the AiO remote APP I cannot see the printer when it's connected to the wireless network, I can only see when I use direct wireless. If I enter the printer IP address from browser when I am connected to the wireless network, I can see all data from printer, I can see also my router typing it's address.
    Can some one help me?
    Thanks

    Hi zagar,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I understand that your iPad is not finding the printer unless it is connect by Wireless Direct.
I have included a link to another thread here on the forum addressing a similar issue.  As you read through the thread you will find several steps to try.  Please let me know if none of the steps correct the issue.

  • HP Officejet 6500A Plus

My HP Officejet 6500A Plus all in one printer recently stopped functioning and printing.   First the Wireless network stopped working (Wireless Status Disconnected) and the Wireless Netwok Test Report advice was “contact HP support”.  Then I started getting endless errors and flashing print screens with numerical references like 83C00009, 00729C98 etc.  Any attempt to turn off the printer using the “off button” resulted in another error message.  The following are examples of the stream of new error messages that appeared each time the “off button” was pressed: B0000A16; B03DA14A; B811DEB6; B8383184; B03E3B66; B83D99B8 etc.  To finally “turn off” the printer it became necessary to disconnect the power.  I have consulted the manual and queries on the HP site using the numerical references as search criteria, does not return any useful results / strategies.  I found a video about how to do a partial “reset” (turn on using # + 3) but while this did allow me to access the print screen, it did not resolve anything and the numerical errors and flashing lights reappeared.  I downloaded the HP diagnostic tools, but they came up with nothing – i.e. could not communicate with my printer.  I read on some post that there may be a problem with the printer head, so I ran the Printer Status Report, but it seemed OK.  Regardless I ran the clean the PrinterHead tool, and again this seemed OK, so I didn’t run the 2nd stage.   My printer is out of warranty.  It is 1.5 years old, but hasn’t been used that much.  According to the Printer Status Report it has printed 1534 pages and scanned 290.
What can I do?  Most of the "internet searches" suggest that if the printer is out of warranty the only option is landfill.

Thank you.  Thesole reason I bought this printer was to use its wireless “Airprint” functionality to print from an iPad and when it worked it was a fabulous product.  The start of these constant alphanumeric errors seemed to coincide with the wireless function ceasing to work (it went offline, HP Network Configuration Report – Network Status “Offline”, and Wireless status “Disconnected”).  Maybe that was just a coincidence.  Running the “Wireless Network Test Report” the recommendation is “Contact HP support***”.  I.e.  The Wireless is on (blue light good) PASS, but the Wireless Working status is FAIL.
I have only tried using the USB in an attempt to get around the wireless not working, i.e. still able to do some basic printing and perhaps upload firmware updates etc.  I have tried different USB ports on my laptop computer but only with the same USB cable that came with the printer.  This original printer cable has only been used a couple of times and it has on two occasions allowed me to print successfully from the laptop (i.e. initially it worked although .  Surely it should be OK.  I am reluctant to go out and buy another cable in the hope that it might resolve something and I don’t really have access to another computer to test.
Thank you I have previously seen that article.  It was somewhat useful.  My errors messages (mostly 83C0009, and sometimes just a black and white striped screen or B0525DAE, B866A570 etc) however do not include system ink failure and the article basically therefore simply recommends switching the computer off at the same time the ink cartridges are removed.  This has in the past provided some improvement in the frequency of the error messages but it is usually short-lived and the error message returns.  The error message can however become entrenched and at that point the print cartridges don’t move when the printer door is open and therefore can’t be removed.  At this point I've tried turning the printer on while holding down #+3 to try and get back to a home screen, rather than an error screen.
On the upside, I can occasionally still make photocopies and the print quality is good.
Any guidance on what I should do next?

  • HP 6500a Plus cannot connect wirelessly

    Hi,
Just bought the HP6500a Plus and understand that this printer is having problem with the constant wireless connection. I am having the same problem and changing the IP address occasionally solve the problem but not alway and it also create problem which cannot access to webapps or ePrint because I change the IP address and also put 0.0.0.0 in the gateway  address.
    My problems are as follow
    1. My Mac Pro running Lion cannot constantly connect to 6500a even the IP address changed to out of range IP address and  pti 0.0.0.0 in gateway address.
    2. After changed, the web apps cannot access and cannot access ePrint too.
    3. Airprint from iPhone cannot detect the printer consistently.
I am thinking to return the product but the 8500a also having the same problem.
Please let me know any good solution. Thanks.

  • My airprint has stopped working. It has work well for several weeks and stopped for no apparent reason.

I have performed all the abvious checks and cannot find anything wrong or anything that has been changed.  I have consulted several forums and have not found anyone having the same problem.  I have an iPhone4 and an iPad2.  Air print has stopped working for both devices.  I'm guessing it must be something with the printer, which does work very well with everything but airprint.  The printer in a HP Officejet 6500A Plus.

After some research, I figured out a work around to sovle that problem. On the router, I created a entry for port fowarding, the trggering port and targeting port with 5353. That seems fixed the problem with lost 6500A plus communication with MAC issue. The problem seems related with Banjour service which is utilizing UDP 5353. I did a trace on the router and found most of MAC products, such as MacBook will trigger the 5353 when connected with router, but some how, the 6500A will only trggering 5353 on router initializing, then lost its communication through 5353 aftrer few mins. Don't know why, but the work around seems working fine.
Hope that give everyone still battling this issue some ideas.

  • Solution to Ipad/ Airprint wireless printing problems

I recently spent several hours trying unsuccessfully to get my ipad mini, IOS7.1, to print to an HP7525 printer using the airprint feature built into both units. I tried every trick offered on many Apple and HP forums but to no avail. I then discovered that my router, an ASUS RT-N1 3U does not properly support the Bonjour packet protocols which are essential to Airprint. So I bought a new router, the Canadian D-Link AC1200 (model DIR-860L), hoping it would solve the problem. It worked like a charm instantly. The Bonjour printer wizard now had the HP7525 in its list of printers and my IPAD mini could now print my Foreflight aviation charts, as well as anything else. It also seems to have solved another HP7525 problem whereby the wireless link goes down after 5 minutes and the printer has to be rebooted every time you want to print something. The link now stays up permanently!. I just hope my good fortune in solving these problems can be of use to others.
My PC operating sysem is WIN 7 64 bit.

These settings are for setting up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, keep wireless devices better connected and make your router secure and hack proof.
    1. Set a static IP in the printer (click here) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).
This is for Linksys routers but can be used for all routers.  Verify your DHCP range and change this
first if needed.  More Wireless Printing help is here.
    2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the
printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click  Settings Tab/Auto Off.  Or use the Printer
        Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS).
In the router:  (Refer to your router manual for information)
    3. Use a fixed wireless channel like 1,6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
    4. Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
    5. Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
    6. Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security.  Nobody can hack your
system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
    7. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same,
they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
    8. Save all settings.  Power off both, wait 2 mins.  Power on router wait 2 mins.
    9. Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.
Windows 7/8/8.1   Is Network Discovery on or off?
Control Panel/Network and Internet/Network and Sharing Center/Advanced sharing settings.
Under Home or Work (current profile) / Network Discovery.
Select "Turn on network discovery" and save changes.

Does Apple make a printer for the iPad and if not how do I get it to work with a HP Officejet 6500A Plus printer? Thanks

Apple don't make any printers, but there are a number of the printers that are AirPrint-enabled, which you should be able to print to just by the printer and the iPad being on the same wifi network - the models that support AirPrint are listed on this page (the page also includes a bit of troubleshooting at the bottom of it) and it includes :
    HP Officejet 6500A e-All-In-One E710a
    HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-In-One E710n
If your's isn't one of those then you could see if HPs own ePrint app works with it, or there are third-party printer apps such as PrintCentral Pro and Print n Share which might work it
