8.1.5 installs on Redhat 6.1, but ORA-12545 error

I carefully followed all of the installation instructions, and the installation procedure seemed to go as expected. But when I attempt to create a database with dbassist, I get an error:
ORA-12545 Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
Note: This is not a networked machine, but there are two network cards installed in the machine. The hostname is currently set to "localhost.localdomain".
Any ideas?

HTML DB 10g installation problem on linux HTTP-503 ORA-604

I have a problem after the installation of HTML DB from the linux 10g R2 companion image.
I installed HTML DB and HTTP server in one go, on an new system that only has the default orcl database installed. I run Red Hat enterprise linux on a x86_64 system.
The HTML DB installation took a long time, but gave no errors.
When I access the http://hostname:7777/pls/htmldb url I get an This server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.-error.
But :7777 works fine and give me the http server default page.
In my Apache error log I see the following errors:

I looked at several internet sources, played with my marvel.conf and my dads.conf but to no avail. My oracle home is different from my html db home. There is no ./network/admin/tnsnames.ora in my HTML_DB _HOME. Should there be? One solution in the faq even told me to copy the htmldb tnsnames.ora over my db tnsnames.ora, but the installation did not create one for me.
When should I use a dads.conf instead of marvel.conf? I don't understand the need for this second file. I tried to also use it, because some solutions and the post-installation instructions hinted on doing it. But then I get a different error in the logs about a double DAD.
When I login through sqlplus in the orcl database with the HTMLDB_PUBLIC_USER and my password (that was created during the installation) it works, but I don't see any tables (yet?). So the account is not locked. But should I see some tables when I do select table_name from user_tables; ?
I probably missing something obvious here, but I'm a bit of a oracle newby.

It worked.
I stopped all oracle process and services.
I then logged out and in again as oracle to see if the unset stuck.
I then started my listener, databases, isqlnet and em.
I then started the httpd with:
${HTMLDB_HOME}/opmn/bin/opmnctl start
opmnctl: opmn started
${HTMLDB_HOME}/opmn/bin/opmnctl startproc
this still gave some errors and the httpd was not started:

Problem solved. I will try to fine tune it so I'll get the basic LANG setting back in linux but without the .UTF-8 postfix.

Oracle 8i installation on RedHat Linux 7.3

I'm having a tough time installing Oracle 8i Ent Ed on Redhat Linux 7.3.
At first it was giving me this error and nothing else :

Now, after I read many How-tos and did

its starts the installer runs for some time but always just vanishes after selecting
Typical Installation, processing gows upto 84% and then just....vanished.
What m I missing?
I've done the following:
Installed
compat-glibc
compat-egcs
compat-libtdc++
compat-libs
from CD 2 of linux 7.3 (6.2 compatibility) as some How-tos suggested.
also installed jre 1.1.8 from www.blackdown.org
now what do i do? please help me as soon as possible.

I am new to this company. This is my first year here, from last one and half year my company was trying to migrate from Informix to Oracle. After I joined I came to know that my predecessor started the project on 8i and left the project half way thru. Then I took over the project and completed the migration from Informix to Oracle. My company spent awful lot of money on this project due to lack technical know how and mislead by the technology staff who has no knowledge of oracle or UNIX (they are bunch of old NCR and Cobol guys here). So bottom line is if I submit a proposal to my boss of upgrading from 8i to 9i or 10g, which I will, probably won't be happy to see. But on the other hand we will loose support and left with no choice, I can only say that I am sorry for them.
Anyway, this is just a part of disorganized IT shop we have here, it needs a major facelift, and I am just pushing one at a time. Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate.

Yes, I had found a similar solution also. I'm running XP Pro, SP3. I went Control Panels/ Add-Remove programmes/apple software update/ change/ repair. Then run the 10.5 exe.
While the programme updated from version 8 of iTunes, my new iTunes is now a mess. Not all of my music was in the same folder previously but it all showed up on iTunes. Now many albums have been left out, some have only a few tracks and some have two copies of some tracks as well as having other tracks missing. I haven't begun to work on that.

Xcode 4.x cannot be installed on Snow Leopard. You need a 3.x. So if that is what you used then yes, you need to install lion. If connect.apple.com still alows registration or logins using an existing appleid then you could download the last xcode 3.2.6 for free.

I encountered the same exact problem when I attempted to re-installed OSX Lion on an old laptop. The date was set back in 2000, which rendered the certificate obsolete. Here's how I fixed it:
From the recovery menu, select the Terminal application. Run the 'date' command to confirm the date is wrong, then set the correct date using this command: date {month}{day}{hour}{minute}{year}
e.g. date 1219195613
Exit terminal (type exit). Retry the installation.

the solution seems to be

Are you using 10.2-0.1 that quite old, is it possible to upgrade to 10.2.0.4 ?

Oracle 9i R2 Installation on Linux -ORA-03113 error

I am in the process of installing Oracle 9i R2 trail version on Linux Server 2.2.4. The software did get installed but the DBCA did not create the sample database.
The error I get is:
ORA-03113:end-of-file on communication channel.
I have also after the installation re-run the DBCA but get the same error. Any help will be appreciated.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

The installer should have given you a few options-- a client-only install, a database and client install, etc. Did the installer prompt you for things like a SID for your database?

If the dialogue appeared once, and you cancelled once, the dialogue may reappear when you next log in. For more certainty I suggest a restart of the operating system, then a log in.
If you like: immediately after the problem is worked around, open the Console utility to see whether — amongst its view of all messages — there is an obvious sign of what caused the dialogue to appear. (If you see nothing obvious, don't waste too much time looking.)

I HAVE A NOTE THAT PRE12 STI INSTALLER HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED, BUT THIS DOESN'T HELP ME?
