802.11a on 1142 access point

hey
if i  deploy WIPT on 1142 series AP and using 802.11a .Will i work coz i read in cisco document
that 1100 series access point doesnot have 802.11a  radio

Hi,
The 1142 does have the A-Radio.. where in the 1141 Does not.. if the requirement is to have a A-radio for WIPT, then it is possible.. the below datasheets link will let us know that we do hv a A-Radio in 1142AP.

  • 1142 Access Point - DHCP trouble

    Hi there,
I am setting up an autonomous 1142 Access Point. The intended goal is to get it accessible though 2 SSIDs:
Private: VLAN3 (our internal data VLAN)
    Guest: VLAN98 (our DMZ/Segregated VLAN)
At present, our VLAN3/internal users get DHCP addresses from x2 Windows DHCP servers. Eventually, the DMZ VLAN connections will get their IP addresses from a switch in our DMZ VLAN.
At the moment, I am able to authenticate with the Access Point through the VLAN 3 SSID but never get an IP address. I have posted the switch port config below as well as the Access Point config. I'm a newbie on these devices so any help would be greatly appreciated:
    **SWITCH PORT CONFIG**
    interface FastEthernet0/10
description IT Office Wireless Access Point
    switchport trunk native vlan 3
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 3,98
    switchport mode trunk
    speed 100
    duplex full
    spanning-tree portfast
    spanning-tree bpduguard enable
    **AP Config**
Attached to the post as quite wordy

    Hi Danny,
You have a native vlan mismatch between the AP and the switch. The switchport has vlan 3 defined as the native, but it is not defined as native on your AP.
You will simply want to add the keyword native at the end of the following line under your .3 subinterfaces:
    encapsulation dot1Q 3 native
On another note, to take full advantage of the 1140 series AP with 802.11n connections, you will need to use WPA2 with AES encryption:
encryption vlan x mode ciphers aes-ccm tkip
This will allow use of both WPAv1/TKIP and WPAv2/AES

  • 1142 Access Point Signal pulsing

Hi, I've recently set up a guest wireless in my office, using a WLC 2504 controlling 4 1142 APs. They have been working great for about a month, but as of yesterday, the Wifi signal from 2 of the APs began to pulse - 5 seconds on, 1 second off - which makes it unusable. They are connected as such:
WLC direct to 3750, to another 3750 (~200ft run), to 1142 AP1 (~100ft)     THIS AP IS PULSING
WLC direct to 3750, to another 3750 (~25ft run), 1142 AP2 (~50ft)     THIS AP IS PULSING
WLC direct to 3750, to another 3750 (~25ft run), to 1142 AP3 (~200ft)     THIS AP IS WORKING NORMALLY
WLC direct to 3750, to media transfer, 1000ft fibre to media transfer, to 3750 (~6ft), to 1142 AP (200ft) THIS AP IS WORKING NORMALLY
All APs are receiving PoE from their last 3750 (at default levels). I've cycled the individual APs, as well as the WLC, but the issue remains.
Except for the initial 3750 directly connected, all other 3750's are different.
I not very familiar with the WLC/APs, so if you need more information to help me, please ask.
    Thanks!
(attached is a pdf of the layout)

When I say pulsating, I'm speaking in regards to the WiFi signal of the AP 1142. The signal comes up for about 5 seconds, then disappears. After a second or two, it's back, but disappears again. All of the APs are set at power level 1, and nothing else on the 3750's have PoE enable, so the power should be stable.
I don't see anything that sticks out in the log, but I am not very familiar with the WLC. I've attached a copy of the log so you can take a look. I had to reboot the WLC this morning so the logs are a bit short.

  • 802.11a/b/g

Somewhere in the printed manual, it says that internal Airport is 802.11a/b/g. Do you have any experience with 802.11a?
Perhaps using 802.11a could work around the speed and delay problems until they are fixed.
    Cristian Bradiceanu
17" iMac Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

While this may be true, whether one could use the 802.11a frequency depends on whether one uses the Airport Extreme base station, Airport Express, or a third party device. I believe that both the Airport Extreme base station and Airport Express (the newest models) support only 802.11b and 802.11g frequencies.
Also, while 802.11a may offer access to greater bandwith (and this may not be true vis a vis the 802.11g standard), it comes at the cost of having a smaller transmission range.

  • Replacement for Cisco AIR-AP1120B Access Point.

Since the AIR-AP1120B is no longer available (new) what replaces it?

The 1120 was replaced by the 1130.  The 1130 will be replaced by the 1140.  You can still purchase the 1130 and 1140 has been available since mid-2009.  The main difference for the two is the latter, the 1140, supports 802.11n.

  • Is there an Airport utility to connect to specific wireless access points?

(Trying the server forum... not getting any bites in the Airport or Tiger areas). It appears that the factory airport cards found in iBooks & PowerBooks do not always connect to the strongest wireless signal in a network with a mixture of Airport Extreme, Airport Graphite and Cisco Aironets. Is there a utility for Panther & Tiger that will allow a user to pick the access point he/she wants to use instead of allowing the card to automatically select? Windows XP shows you all the access points and allows you to select the strongest signal. Here's an example of the problem: an employee with a new PowerBook is sitting 10 feet away from a new Cisco Aironet 802.11 b/g access point, but his PowerBook insists upon using the much weaker signal from an Airport Exteme 802.11 b/g access point from the floor below him. This is one wireless network emitting the same SSID and encryption. What gives?
    Thanks in advance!

hmm well i beleaved that a mac wireless card automatically picked the strongest signal,
but can i ask are they both running at G or B all the time, maybe the stronger signal is only available at B so the powerbook picks up the signal from the weeker access point thats available at G.
I thought that the speed, B or G is dependant on what card connects, that if a B card connects to an access point then the whole access point is lower to B speed, maybe this is so, im not sure, so maybe its not only signal strength but speed as well that determines what access point to join.

  • Is it possible to migrate an access point between regulatory domains?

I see appendices full of channel usage and power maximums, but nothing that states clearly wether or not it is possible to simply reconfigure a lightweight access point deployed in one regulatory domain so that it can be used in another?
Example - have an 1142 access point in Japan and would like to repurpose it for use in London.  Do I need to buy a new access point or can I reconfigure the Japan AP for use in London via software.
    Thanks!

    Hello,
for the regulatory domain it is hardcoded in the AP itself.
so for AP to be used in london , you need to purchase a -E AP.
now you still can connect the -J in london , and join it to WLC  with Japan country code, but that would be breach for the eroupean regulations and allowed frequencies...
the only migration you can perform in AP is between Japanese codes ( that allow different frequency ranges).

  • Need to admin disable 802.11a radio from a few light weight access points

    Hi team,
I need help to admin disable the 802.11a radio interface from a few lightweight APs. The operational status of these radio interfaces is down, so I am getting the following error when I try to disable them from the wireless LAN controller.
    (Cisco Controller) config>802.11a disable wds2.hyd.shaw.net
This slot is not operational because Regulatory Domain Check has failed! Unable to disable the Cisco AP.
Could you please let me know how I can administratively disable the 802.11a radios on these APs? Please let me know if you need more details here.
    Regards,
    Swati

The two previous posts are correct: the regulatory domain is probably not allowing radio a to be enabled.
To be sure about this you can go to GUI of the wireless LAN controller > Wireless > Country. Here your country (or region) should be selected. Then depending on the access points that you have they may or may not join or turn on the radio. Per example if you have an access point from Europe (like AIR-AP1131AG-E-K9) then you will have a conflict if only the “America” regulatory domain (-A) is selected.
Here is a link with a list of products and their regulatory domain that might help:
    http://tools.cisco.com/squish/648C8
What you can do here is to simply allow the regulatory domain that the access point needs and you should not have any problems.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you change the regulatory domain and use an access point that transmit at certain channels and frequencies that are not allowed (illegal) in your country (region) you may have legal implications.
I hope this information helps you with your concern.

  • Access Point support 802.11a/g/b/r

can you suggest me the access point which support 802.11a/g/b/r ?
My problem is with 802.11 r. i am not getting clear idea about the wireless access point which will support 802.11r
    kindly suggest me the product

There are no APs that support 802.11r yet. 802.11r is a standards extension to support fast secure roaming that was only ratified a month or so ago. It requires client device support and there are no clients that support it yet.
If you want fast secure roaming, Cisco offers CCKM on all our APs and CCKM and PKC on all our controllers.
I suspect though, that you may have meant, 802.11n, which is a higher data rate PHY/MAC standards extension. That is supported in the AP1250 series.

  • Cisco Access Point Configuration to support 802.11b & 802.11g protocol

How do i Configure access point to support both 802.11b & 802.11g clients on a Cisco 1121G series access point(AIR-AP1121G-A-K9)
    Regards
    Hitesh

    Hi Hitesh,
Check out this excerpt from the 1121g AP Installation guide section on enabling the 802.11b and 802.11g radios.
In Cisco IOS Release 12.3(4)JA and later, the access point radios are disabled by default, and there is no default SSID. You must create an SSID and enable the radios before the access point will allow wireless associations from other devices. These changes to the default configuration improve the security of newly installed access points. Refer to the "Configuring Basic Security Settings" section for instructions on configuring the SSID.
In Cisco IOS Release 12.3(2)JA or earlier, the access point radio is enabled by default, and the default SSID is tsunami.
To enable the radio interfaces, follow these instructions:
Step 1 Use your web-browser to access your access point.
Step 2 When the Summary Status page displays, click Network Interfaces > Radio0-802.11B or Radio0-802.11G and the radio status page displays.
Step 3 Click Settings and the radio settings page displays
Step 4 Click Enable in the Enable Radio field.
    Step 5 Click Apply.
Here is a link to the actual document:

  • Cisco 802.11n Outdoor Access Point

I have to propose to a client a 802.11n outdoor Acess point with external antenna, tha gain must be >8 dbi.
Which cisco model should i use ?

I have to propose to a client a 802.11n outdoor Acess point with external antenna, tha gain must be >8 dbi.
DO NOT, under any circumstances, use 1260 or 3500e if you plan to use antennas > 6 dBi.  These two models DO NOT SUPPORT antenna gain higher than 6 dBi.  The only two 802.11n-capable WAP that can support high-gain antenna of > 6 dBi are the 1250 and the 3500p.
Antenna Product Portfolio for Cisco Aironet 802.11n Access Points
The 1250 is End-of-Sale (End-of-Sale Date:  12 January 2012) and requires 20.0w of PoE.  The 1250 can support antenna gain > 6 dBi.
The 3500p was released around mid-2011 because people were howling/screaming about the lack of high-gain antenna support, thus the 3500p was developed alongside the AIR-ANT25137NP-R.
Cisco recommends that the installation of the AIR-ANT25137NP-R should be done with proper sight-survey.

  • Cisco Aironet 802.11 a/b/g Access point

I dont know if this is the correct forum but here goes anyways
I have acquired about 25 aironet 802.11 a/b/g access points
with a Cisco Wireless Lan controller that I am in the middle
of setting up. In the meantime is it possible to set one of these
access points up in the same way a netgear type home wireless
router works? I have used these to setup kiosk type access with
NAT and switched private network access as well. Is this possible
with one of these access points?
    Thanks

In the meantime is it possible to set one of these access points up in the same way a netgear type home wireless router works?
Your Netgear is a two-in-one:  You have a router and with an embedded wireless access point.
Your 802.11 a/b/g, either an 1130 or a 1240, is just a plain wireless access point.  Cisco has three routers which are routers and have embedded wireless access point (only one is 802.11 a/b/g/n but the other two are only 802.11 b/g).
If you want to run NAT, you need to have a router to do the NAT-ing.  The wireless access point, as what others have pointed out, is just a plain Layer 2 device.

  • Access Points connection drop approximately 30 times with 802.1x Radius

    Hello Everyone,
As you can see from the top this is my problem that could not solve for 2 weeks. To summarize again, I used to my access points with standart configuration, I mean vlans, dhcp and other basic configration. After we increased security of our access points we started to encouter connection drops issue.
    These are the example logs;
Interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station xxxx.xxxx.xxxx (my mac address) Reason: Previous authentication no longer valid
    Also a lot of:
interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station xxxx.xxxx.xxxx (my mac address) Reason: Sending station has left the BSS
as well as we have a lot of authentication failures such like:
%DOT11-7-AUTH_FAILED: Station xxxx.xxxx.xxxx (my mac address) Authentication failed
    What should I do ?
    Thanks in advance

I have finally found something to look into :/

This is with various debugging active on the WDS. And this might be the reason why it doesn't work.
