8i intermedia ORA-03113 ORA-07445 CTX$N

We get the occasional ORA-03113 end of file communication error along with a trace file with ORA-07445. On looking at the CTX$N - described as the negative list table I found it had quite a few entries (nearly 10,000). When I rebuilt the index the problem went away and the CTX$N table was empty. Clearly it gets written to during the course of time. Does anyone know any details or have any suggestions as to if/when large numbers of entries might cause this sort of failure.

In the last couple of days we have started seeing ORA-03113 on some interMedia queries that lead me to think we're running into bug 1517789 (8.1.7.0.0 on NT4WSSP6a). The bug is supposed to be taken care of in the 8.1.7.1b patchset, but I haven't yet found the patch for NT. Does anybody have more information or a link to the patch?
Interestingly, the number of rows in the table (in the hundreds), rows in the DR$ tables (a few thousand), and number of hits (hundreds) are small. It does respond to the "well, don't do that" workarounds mentioned in the bug discussion, though--changing the contains from '%' to a couple of characters preceeding the '%'.
Any information appreciated

    hmmmmmm, are u sure that u get all the OS patch and/or packages for your Oracle version ?
    That sounds strange. I got quite the same problem when relinking an Oracle 9i R2 on AIX5L and an OS package was missing but was NOT in the pre-requisite documentation...
    Good luck,

  • ORA-03113 & ORA-01041: including CR047274_60.jar did not help

    Hi,
    I have a session bean (WatchDogSessionBean) that repeatedly queries the database.

    WatchDogSessionBean is a stateless session bean.
    I have attached the source code for WatchDogSessionBean.
    The same thing haapens even when I use a standard java application instead of
    an EJB.
    Please help!!

    Change the 'OTHER' type in the call to what Oracle recommends for it's
    driver when returning cursors/resultsets from callablestatements.

    Using the oracle thin driver got rid of the errors.
    But introduced a different exception:
    We have a bunch of stored procedure calls which return ResultSet objects.
    We had the following code when we used the weblogic OCI drivers,
    cs = con.prepareCall("{? = call X2K.pkgAccounts.getEmailAddresses(?)}");
    cs.registerOutParameter(1, java.sql.Types.OTHER);
    cs.setObject(2, accountID);
    cs.execute();
    After changing to the Oracle thin driver, each of these calls yield an "invalid
    SQL column" error at :
    cs.registerOutParameter(1, java.sql.Types.OTHER);
    Is there any way to fix this, without changing the existing code??
    Thanks,

    Please help!!Some things: In the JDBC code, your finally blocks do three
    things. If any of the first two fail, you will skip the crucial
    connection close. Try this style in both places:
    ps = con.prepareStatement(query);
    rs = ps.executeQuery();
    while(rs.next())
    accountsList.add(rs.getString(1));
    rs.close();
    ps.close();
    return accountsList;
    finally
    if (con != null) con.close();
    The Oracle errors aren't related to this, however, not are they related
    to the jar (which is
    a good thing to have anyway). This is an Oracle failure. I recommend
    downloading and
    using Oracle's latest thin driver. Let me know if this helps.

  • InterMedia Text with USER_DATASTORE and ORA-03113

    Hi,
    I have problems using Oracle's InterMedia Text-index with a
    USER_DATASTORE. I'm using Oracle 8.1.7 on Windows NT 4.0.
    What I try to do is to create a context-index on multiple columns
    of multiple tables. I created a table containing the original
    tablenames and primary keys plus a char(1)-column to index, a
    user_datastore, a procedure in a user-schema, a
    wrapping-procedure in ctxsys' schema and finally the index. All
    works fine so far but I get an ORA-03113 "end-of-file on
    communication channel" error when querying the table with
    contains. The procedure itself works.
    Here's what I tried in detail:
    I created a table "alldocs" containing the tablename and
    primary-key-value of each line of each table plus a dummy-column
    for the index:
    create table alldocs(
    table varchar2(30) not null,
    id number not null,
    data char(1),
    primary key(tabelle, id)
    I filled this table:
    insert into alldocs (select 'MYDOCS', id, 'a' from mydocs);
    insert into alldocs (select 'OTHERDOCS', id, 'b' from otherdocs);
    The user's procedure - only dummy for testing - is:
    create procedure test.GetAllDocsData(row IN ROWID, data IN OUT
    NOCOPY CLOB) IS
         tabname varchar2(30);
         myid     number;
         tmpclob clob;
    begin
         dbms_lob.createtemporary(tmpclob, TRUE);
         dbms_lob.writeappend(tmpclob, 34, 'Ein Text mit ca. 20
    Zeichen Ldnge.');
         data := tmpclob;
    end;
    In ctxsys' schema I defined the following procedure and the
    datastore:
    create or replace procedure sysGetAllDocsData(rid in rowid, tlob
    in out clob) is
    begin
    test.GetAllDocsData(rid, tlob);
    end sysGetAllDocsData;
    grant execute on sysGetAllDocsData to test;
    call ctx_ddl.create_preference('MyUserDS', 'user_datastore');
    call ctx_ddl.set_attribute('MyUserDS', 'procedure',
    'sysGetAllDocsData');
    call ctx_ddl.set_attribute('MyUserDS', 'output_type', 'CLOB');
    Finally I defined the index:
    create index test.alldocs_ctx on test.alldocs(data)
         indextype is ctxsys.context
         parameters ('DATASTORE CTXSYS.MyUserDS FILTER
    CTXSYS.INSO_FILTER LEXER BASIC_LEXER');
    This all works without errors. But when querying like this:
    select * from test.alldocs where contains('data', 'Text')>0
    the answer is
    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
    I hope someone can help.
    Greetings
    Ralf

    Hi Ralf,
    please define first your own preferences like this:
    exec CTX_DDL.drop_preference('MY_LEXER');
    exec CTX_DDL.create_preference('MY_LEXER','BASIC_LEXER');
    exec CTX_DDL.set_attribute('MY_LEXER','ALTERNATE_SPELLING',
    'GERMAN');
    exec CTX_DDL.set_attribute('MY_LEXER','BASE_LETTER','YES');
    exec CTX_DDL.set_attribute('MY_LEXER','MIXED_CASE', 'NO');
    exec CTX_DDL.set_attribute('MY_LEXER','INDEX_THEMES','NO');
    exec CTX_DDL.set_attribute('MY_LEXER','INDEX_TEXT', 'YES');
    exec CTX_DDL.set_attribute('MY_LEXER','COMPOSITE', 'GERMAN');
    exec ctx_ddl.Drop_Preference ('MY_FILTER');
    exec ctx_ddl.Create_Preference ('MY_FILTER','NULL_FILTER');
    exec ctx_ddl.drop_section_group ('MY_SECTION');
    exec ctx_ddl.create_section_group
    ('MY_SECTION','NULL_SECTION_GROUP');
    and then create your index with this preferences. You only need
    an INSO filter if you want to index pdf,word,...
    create index test.alldocs_ctx on test.alldocs(data)
         indextype is ctxsys.context
         parameters ('DATASTORE CTXSYS.MyUserDS FILTER
    CTXSYS.INSO_FILTER LEXER BASIC_LEXER');create index test.alldocs_ctx on test.alldocs(data)
         indextype is ctxsys.context
         parameters ('
    DATASTORE CTXSYS.MyUserDS
    lexer MY_LEXER
    filter MY_FILTER
    section group MY_SECTION');
    Then see in the token table what tokens are in the index:
    select token_text from dr$alldocs_ctx$i;
    If you got also an ORA-3113 see in alert.log if there is a trace
    referenced with this error and have a look in this file to find a
    better error message.
    Good luck.
    Thomas

  • ORA-03113 and ORA-07445 ACCESS_VIOLATION (again)

    On:
    10g
    Windows 2003 server
    IIS 6
    ASP.NET 2.0
    Oracle client 10.2.0.1.0
    ODAC 10.2.0.2.21
    odp.net 2.102.2.20
    Validate Connection=true;Min Pool Size=0 in connection string
    All odp.net connection, command and parameter objects are closed/disposed after use.
    The issue:
    ORA-03113 is returned to asp.net.
    ORA-07445 ACCESS_VIOLATION is logged on database side. (see below)
    It is ALWAYS the same select query (in stored procedure).
    This is NOT a heavy query. Whole table is only 20K rows. (see below)
    The rest of web application is UNAFFECTED. oracle connection and queries working normally.
    Memory and threads used w3wp.exe are normal
    Our only solution is for DBA to re-allocate table on db server.
    I have read all related posts on this Forum but please any advice is welcome!
    Thanks,
    Adam

    according to this article:
    <span> [Oracle ORA-07445 exception tips|<a class="smarterwiki-linkify" href="http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_ora_07445_exception_encountered.htm]">http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_ora_07445_exception_encountered.htm]</a>
    </span>
    ther is a lot of reasons for this issue I suggest that you try to do some action to try to understand where is the problem:
    1. Change the connection string to contain only the schema parameter (no pooling parameters).
    2. Change the select to return only 1:
    _SELECT 1 as val_
    FROM IIL_RUN_SETS ILRS
    INNER JOIN IIL_RN_SET_STA_VALS ISSV
    ON ILRS.ILRS_ID = ISSV.ILRS_ID
    AND CURRENT_TIMESTAMP BETWEEN ISSV.TRANS_FROM AND ISSV.TRANS_TO
    INNER JOIN IIL_RN_SET_STATUSES ISST
    ON ISSV.ISST_ID = ISST.ISST_ID
    INNER JOIN IIL_RUNS ILRN
    ON ILRS.ILRS_ID = ILRN.ILRS_ID
    LEFT OUTER JOIN IIL_RUN_LABELS IRLB
    ON ILRN.IRLB_ID = IRLB.IRLB_ID
    INNER JOIN IIL_RUN_STA_VALS IRSV
    ON ILRN.ILRN_ID = IRSV.ILRN_ID
    AND CURRENT_TIMESTAMP BETWEEN IRSV.TRANS_FROM AND IRSV.TRANS_TO
    INNER JOIN IIL_RUN_STATUSES IRST
    ON IRSV.IRST_ID = IRST.IRST_ID
    INNER JOIN IIL_RUN_TYPES IRTY
    ON ILRN.IRTY_ID = IRTY.IRTY_ID
    INNER JOIN PRODUCTS PDCT
    ON ILRN.PDCT_ID = PDCT.PDCT_ID
    INNER JOIN USERS UPDATE_USER
    ON ILRN.UPDATE_USER_ID = UPDATE_USER.USER_ID
    WHERE ILRS.ILRS_ID ; = :B1
    _AND rownum=1_
    ORDER BY ILRN.ILRN_ID
    if this result will not return the value that means that the problem is in the SQL/Procedure
    3. Try to run on diffrent client - it maybe related to some ODP problem one one client.

  • Error ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel in droppping  a table

    Good evening,
    I am very new on Oracle and I have a problem with some tables. Without any reason, apparently, I can't drop some of my table. Oracle gives me this error:

    What I should have to do?

    Ants,
    I run the test on my laptop Windows XP 32 + Oracle EE 11.1.0.7.0. I broke off the statement after my machine was 100% CPU bound for over 15 min.
    I used a local BEQ SQL*Plus connection to connect to the database. The database showed in that time no trace or any indication of a segmentation vault.

  • ORA-03113 while importing a file

    Hi all.
    I know this is a very general error but, I need some help trying to figure out the workaround or the cause of this error.
    I am importing a big export file (like half a gig) created in a 10.2 environment, into a brand new 11.1.0.7 environment. I have tried 2 or 3 times and I always get the same ORA-03113 at the same line in the export file where it is trying to import a procedure. Any hints?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ignacio.

    Thanks Amand.
    Yes, there are several trace files generated at the time of the error.
    In one of them, there is a ORA-07445: Exception encountered: core dump ... Address not mapped to object.
    It also generated a dump file.
    What should I do next?
    Thanks for your support,
    Ignacio.

    Did you actually read the alert-log ??
    The problem is clear in there. Your datafiles are corrupted!!!
    While the database is trying to correct these, a lot of ORA-00600 and ORA-07445's are generated.
    Consult Oracle Support to get this resolved

  • ORA-03113 end-of-file on channel communication

    Hello at everyone:
    I have a laptop pentium 133 MMX, 40 MB Ram, 2.1 GB.
    I have been installed slackware 3.5, kernel 2.0.36, on it and
    oracle 8 too.
    I run svrmgrl, connect internal, everithing go well, but when
    write the command "startup nomount" <ENTER>, oracle begin to work
    and 2 seconds after, more or less, appear the message of the
    subject.
    I found the possibly means of this:
    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
    Cause: An unexpected end-of-file was processed on the
    communication channel. The problem could not be handled by the
    Net8, two task, software. This message could occur if the shadow
    two-task process associated with a Net8 connect has terminated
    abnormally, or if there is a physical failure of the interprocess
    communication vehicle, that is, the network or server machine
    went down.
    Action: If this message occurs during a connection attempt, check
    the setup files for the appropriate Net8 driver and confirm Net8
    software is correctly installed on the server. If the message
    occurs after a connection is well established, and the error is
    not due to a physical failure, check if a trace file was
    generated on the server at failure time. Existence of a trace
    file may suggest an Oracle internal error that requires the
    assistance of customer support.
    ------------------------------------------<^
    This possibility, above |, i guess that not apply, because, i
    work in any network, everything is local.
    ------------------------------------------<ORA-3113: end of file communication channel
    Cause: An unexpected end-of-file was processed on the
    communication channel. The TCP/IP retransmission count on Win
    NT/95 has a default value of 5. This means that the send side
    retransmits the packet five times or until it gets an
    acknowledgment. The timeout for each retransmission is two times
    the timeout for the previous retransmission (exponential
    backoff). With the default value of 5, the send side retransmits
    5 times (approximately. 15 seconds) and if it does not get an
    acknowledgment. it assumes that the other side is down and closes
    the connection. If the link goes down for a minute or two the
    Net8 client receives this error.
    Action: Modify the retransmission count.
    Please see your Microsoft specific operating system manual for
    more information on tuning the microsoft TCP/IP software.
    ----------------------------------------------<I got it from Oracle 8 documentation for W95/NT. I guess that it
    is a good posibility. But how can to modify the retransmission
    count under Linux?

  • ORA-02068+ORA-03113 on database link

    Hi all
    I have the following scenario:
    The application is connecting to DB (Oracle 10.2.0.5) using jdbc connection pool.
    The database is a 3-node RAC.
    Using DB Link we access a PLSQL package on a remote database (10.2.0.4).The remote database is a single instance.
    The remote database is not located behind FW.
    Sometimes the remote DB is restarted, but we seem to hit these errors about 30 mins afterwards.
    From time to time we get these errors and we cant find the root cause.
    Any ideas how to address this?
    Thanks,
    Rudi

  • DBMS_JAVA.GRANT_PERMISSION RESULTS IN ORA-03113

    I've successfully created and deployed a java procedure that compresses files for use as email attachements. Upon executing the procedure I get a trace file telling me to grant java.io.FilePermission to the user. I attempted the call (connected as sys (sysdba)):
    exec dbms_java.grant_permission('VEHICLE','SYS:java.io.FilePermission','f:\oracle\soe_data\*', 'read, write');
    which resulted in:
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
    and a core dump with:
    ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [ACCESS_VIOLATION] [unable_to_trans_pc] [PC:0x377E21D] [ADDR:0x24] [UNABLE_TO_READ] []
    I opened up an SR on metalink and have not gotten a response.
    I checked the Java install with "desc DBMS_JAVA" and got no errors. I also tried several variations to the path syntax, escaping the backslash, with/without the *, to just the directory, to an explicit filename, etc.
    Oracle information is as follows:
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.5.0 - Production
    With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options
    Windows XP Version V5.1 Service Pack 2
    CPU : 1 - type 586
    Thanks in advance

    I finally got this resolved. Apparently the catpatch.sql script did not run during the last upgrade causing a version mis-match
