9i client x 10g server

hello,
Is there any way to have a data corruption problem, when a 9i client conects and sends sqls to a 10g server?

It is possible to have a data corruption problem regardless of the configuration. It's possible for a 9i client to 10g server to have a data corruption problem. It's possible for a 9i client to 9i database to have a data corruption problem. It's possible for a 10g client to 10g server to have a data corruption problem.
It is not, however, a likely or expected outcome. Assuming the specific versions of 9i and 10g are appropriately supported in the Metalink client/server compatibility matrix, you shouldn't expect to have a data corruption problem simply because the version of the Oracle client and Oracle server in use differ.

  • Using Oracle 9i Client and 10g Server on the same box

    Hi,
All our applications are compiled using oracle 9i and the proc compiler for oracle 9i.
However we run the applications against a 10g database which has oracle9i and 10g co-hosted on the same both. We achieve this by using the oracle 9 libclntsh.so shared library which uses shared memory (I assume) rather than having a listener and tnsnames.ora entry.
My question is, is it support by oracle.
    Thanks,
    Iain

You can achieve this by install them into different ORACLE_HOME

  • Oracle 9 client connecting to 10g server

    Hello,
Is it possible to connect an Oracle 9i client to an Oracle 10g server? Is there any known issues/problems with that?
Because I'm facing the issue that with the same application connecting to different oaracle versions, when I connect to the 10g I get some connection errors, I'm wondering if going back to client 9i and connect to a 10g server would be a good test.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lucas.

If Oracle knows little about connection pools it is true. If by changing the Oracle version some issues arise I wouldn't immediately discard the interoperability version issue.
In this case the OP faces probably a big issue. The application has to be upgraded and all the compatibility matrix revisited. The main problem when working with unsuported versions is that in case it has to do with a bug from 9i Oracle has limited support by means of the Extended Support option.
Does it have to actually do with interoperability, bugs or application configuration is something that cannot be accurately established after the partial information provided by the OP.

  • Can 11g client connect to 10g server?

I am very new to Oracle, so hope this isn't too basic of a question. I thought I saw something through my searches where the clients were backward compatible to older versions of the server. Will this work, 11g client connecting to a 10g server?
I have a custom windows app that uses the Oracle client to pull data from an Oracle server at another location and pushed the data into a MS-SQLExpress database for a local cache to be used during th day. I do not have the source for this custom app or the time to re-create this custom app. We just installed a new Windows 2008 R2 (64bit) server and I just need to get the client back on the new server so the custom app will work again. The old server was running 8.1.7 client, but going to 64bit OS I want to use a more current client to avoid issues with 32bit/64bit compatibility problems.
I am downloading the 11g 64bit client now, but want to make sure I'm not wasting my time and need to get a different client. Please advise.
    Thanks!

In general, yes, you can use a later version of the client to connect to an earlier version of the database and vice versa. But that only generally works for a few major releases. Unfortunately "10g" and "11g" are somewhat ambiguous-- both could be referring to one of two major releases.
Metalink 207303.1 is the client/server interoperability matrix. If by 11g you mean 11.2 and by 10g you mean 10.1, the 11.2 client will not work with a 10.1 database. If the client is 11.2 and the database is 10.2, it should be at least 10.2.0.2. If the client is 11.1, the database should be 10.1.0.5 or 10.2.0.2 or higher.

  • Connection to Oracle 10g server on Oracle 8i client machine

    Hi guys,
I wonder if you could help. I need to access Oracle 10G server using a client machine with Oracle 8i on it. I am getting the following error: "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name"
I believe I have tnsnames.ora correctly set for the service. I was wondering if I am missing something or it is just not possible to connect to 10g. Do I need to install the Oracle 10g client on the same client machine as 8i? Would they run Ok together?
    Urgent response would be appreciated
    Thanks

There are limitations in your combination (8.1.7 Client - 10g server), but you should get a different error. Anyway, please post the following :
    - the exact (complete, e.g. 8.1.7.4, 10.1.0.3) server and client version
    - from the client the content of sqlnet.ora and the relevant part of tnsnames.ora
    - from the server the result of "lsnrctl services"
Would they run Ok together?Yes, of course you have to use different Oracle homes.

  • Certification status of Oracle 10g server on windows 7

    Hi all,
I'm trying to understand if Oracle 10g server is certified on windows 7, but I have found conflicting informations.
Note 952302.1 "Is Microsoft Windows 7 certified to install/run Oracle Database Server/Client ?" says :
"Microsoft Windows 7" certification will begin with "Oracle Database 11gR2 (11.2.0.x)". That means, Oracle Database 11gR2 will be the first Oracle Database product certified/supported to install/run on "Microsoft Windows 7".
Oracle also planning to certify "10.2.0.5 Client" on Windows 7. Please refer following article for further information
Note 1061272.1 Statement of Direction: Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Client (10.2.0.5) with Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2
Note 1061272.1 "Statement of Direction: Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Client (10.2.0.5) with Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2" has only informations related to oracle 10g CLIENT.
So far, so good: Oracle clearly says that only oracle 10g client is certified on windows 7...
However, if I look for info in the "certification" tab in Metalink I found conflicting informations. I have build a matrix looking for:
Product: "Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition"
Release / version: All release / Versions
    Platform / Version: "Microsoft Windows (32 bit) > 7"
    Tier: All tiers
And - surprise!- I see that Oracle 10gR2 is in the "Extended Support" status !
The certifications detail says that Oracle 10.2.0.5.0 is required, and that "11gR1 database and client and 10gR2 database certification are not planned for Windows 7" !
    This is really a mess!
Did you found some clearer documentations ?
How can we shed some light on this topic?
    thanks,

  • Oracle 8i compatibility with Oracle 10g server

We are upgrading our server from Oracle 8.1.7.4 to 10.2.0.4. I have many users who would be connecting to 10g server using 8i client. Is 8i client compatible to 10g server ?

You should have no problems except some operations may not work properly.
I think you should refer to this document:
    Upgrade Guide at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14238/toc.htm
It does mention 8i to work properly.
Oracle itself does not certify that that upgrading from 8i to 10g would work the same. They expect upgrading from 8i to 9i to work, and 9i to 10g.
Connecting to the DB will work seamlessly , it is other things you might want to worry about. Such as Java thin clients (version for 8i) to connect to 10g that may be at fault, so you'd have to upgrade those as well.
Same goes for .NET libraries if you use that.

    Hi,
Have you debug these two applications? Does it go into the catch exception block when you close the client or the server?
According to my test, it will throw an exception when the client or the server is closed, just log the exception message in the catch block and then you'll get it:
    private async void Process()
    try
    while (true)
    var data = await this.Receive();
    this.NewMessage.Invoke(Encoding.ASCII.GetString(data));
    catch (Exception exception)
    Console.WriteLine(exception.Message);
Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing   connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
By the way, I don't know what the SafeInvoke method is, it may be an extension method, right? I used Invoke instead to test it.

  • Copy file from client PC to server in a web deployed application

I have developed one application using Oracle forms 6i, which is deployed on the web server.
I run this application from a client PC in Internet Explorer using internet.
I want to copy one file from the client PC to the web server.
    I have done following things
    - Created a shared folder on the server and given full rights to every one on this folder
    - I use 'net use' command in my program to connect to this shared folder
    - I use copy command to copy file from local client pc to server. This copy command I am executing using host command of my programming (PL/SQL: eg. host('copy abc.txt \\server\share\') )
    But this does not work.
When I do the same thing in command window, it works.
(ie. Start-Run cmd to open command window and then type the above copy command)
Can you please tell me, how to copy a file from client PC to the sever in Web deployed application?
    Thanks

I downloaded D2KWUtil from the link suggested by you. It has very nice example demo form. But the documentation provided says following
Using D2KWUTIL in Web Deployed Applications
The use of this library is not supported with Web deployed applications.
In a web deployment scenario not all functions within D2KWUTIL will work. Any function that interacts with the User Interface (such as those in the WIN_API_DIALOG package) will fail.
Any interaction with the O/S by other functions will all be executed on the NT server and will act within, or return information pertinant to, the environment on that machine. For instance GET_COMPUTER_NAME will return the Server’s name, not the name of the computer that the Client browser is running on. Likewise COPY_FILE will copy files in the Forms Server not on the Client.
Functions such as those in WIN_API_BITOP will continue to work without change.
so this will not work in web deployed application.
    Any other suggestion?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Without some more details of the configuration, its difficult to know
what's happening here. For example, what do you mean by client side
and server side, and where are you running the upload Java application?
If you always run the application on the database server system, but can't
open the file on a different machine, then it sounds like a file protection
problem that isn't really connected with the database at all. That is to
say, if the new FileInputStream (binaryFile) statement fails, then its not
really a database problem, but a file protection issue. On the other hand,
I can't explain what's happening if you run the program on the same machine
as the document file (client machine), but you can't write the data to the
server, assuming the JDBC connection string is set correctly to connect to
    the appropriate database server.
If you can provide some more information, we'll try to help.

  • Is it possible to lock the keyboard of a client from a server using java

please explain wheterit is possible to lock the keyboard of a client from a server using java

You want to process code on one machine, and thereby lock the keyboard on another machine? No, that's not possible. It is extremely far from possible.
Of course, if the client is running software with security holes in it you might hack into it and crash the thing. This will lock up the keyboard pretty good. I hope that's not what you want ...
Or are you talking about a setup where you already have code running on the client, and some sort of communication between client and server? In that case what you need to know is whether it is possible to lock the keyboard at all. Once you have figured that out, it is trivial to add the communication code to have the server software tell the client software to lock the keyboard.
So what do you mean with "lock the keyboard"? It's pretty easy to remove/disable all keyboard related listeners in your own application. It's a lot harder (and AFAIK impossible with pure java) to disable alt-tabbing out of the application. And impossible, except from exploiting security holes, to lock the ctrl-alt-delete-combination on windows machine.
