  • How to connect to remote sql server database?

    Hallo,
I am a new member, so please excuse me if my questions are dummy.
I am using CR2008 SP2 to make reports from sql server 2005 databases.
Localy there is no connection problem and everything works perfect.
I would like to establish a connection with a remote sql server 2005,
but i am not familiar with remote data retriving. which driver should i use? static ip? vpn? server ports?
Any answer will be really appreciated

    Hello,
This is more a question for Microsoft to see what and how they support remote connections to databases. As long as you have the connection made CR will not have any problems. You may find it is slow so optimizing your queries is highly recommended. Passing a million records through your web connector is going to take time.....
I've personally used a VPN connection and then set the ODBC or OLE DB connection info to my test server here at work and it worked fine. But they were small data sets.
    Thank you

    Hi All,
Could any one tell me. How to connect Client's Application server and How to Install VPN. Thanks in advance.......
    Thanks  & regards
    Vardhan

    where r u working?
ask your help desk to give the URL link to down load vpn
after downloading install it, its just like a wizard
you need to give your userid and password , and secureid number
secureid is a small device which displays a number(say a 6 digit number ) this number is keeps on changing for every one minitue.
you need to enter the number which is displaing while you are trying to connect to vpn.
in the middle of connecting to vpn if your secureid number changed , you need to login once again by the same procedure

     Some questions:
Are there any other databases running on this Std Edition SQL service?
[a] Yes there are, we have Kaspersky enterprise DB, Report Server DB and local application DB.
Are there any other services running on this WSUS Server?
[b] Yes there are, we have Active Directory, Kaspersky enterprise, SQL Server 2005, and WSUS all on the same server.
How many days since your WSUS server was first installed?
    [c] It's been about a year now.
What is the physical size of the SUSDB.mdf file?
    [d] 9,666,752 KB
What is the hardware configuration of this machine, including disk drives?
    [e] Intel Xeon 1.86, 2GB Ram, HD C: 39GB - E: 25.2, running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2.
How many client systems are you servicing from this WSUS Server?
    [f] Around 40.
    What products/classifications are you synchronizing.
    [g] Windows XP-vista, Windows Server 2003, Office 2003-2007, SQL Server 2005.
Okay, for starters, you have an underpowered/overextended machine running Active Directory, ASP.NET, and a database server, all on a sub 2GHz CPU with 2GB RAM, and not enough disk spindles. The machine has had WSUS running for about a year and is 9GB in size.
There's no doubt in my mind that some of your performance issues are directly related to disk and database fragmentation.
There's also no doubt that some of your performance issues are directly related to memory starvation.
I'd suggest the following long-term fixes:
    1. Get a second machine. Make it a dedicated database server. Provision it accordingly to support servicing multiple database applications.
    2. Lacking #1, this machine needs more memory. It also needs more disk spindles. At a minimum the databases being serviced should be on a dedicated physical drive; ideally there would be two dedicated drives allocated for supporting database services. The
For the short-term fixes, do this:
    1. During after-hours time, if you don't already have one, build a temporary machine that can act as a DC/GC, while you take this machine temporarily offline.
    1. Shutdown the Update Services service, SQL Server database engine, and any other services dependent on the SQL Server database engine (Kapersky, and other reporting applications). Disconnect from the network to temporarly eliminate DC traffic. (You could also shutdown the AD services, but disconnecting the network cable is ever-so-much easier.) Defragment ALL drives.
    2. Restart ONLY the SQL Server service. Obtain this SQL script to Reindex the WSUS Databases.
    3. Restart ONLY the Update Services service. Attempt the Server Cleanup Wizard again. Run it in two passes. Pass 1 performing everything except  remove unused updates. Pass 2 running only remove unused updates.
    4. After completion of the Server Cleanup Wizard, reconnect the machine to the network and resume all other services.
    5. If you're able to complete #3, secure the services of a well-qualified DBA to determine if there are any misconfigurations in your SQL Server setup that would account for why your WSUS database is 9GB in size -- such as improperly configured autogrowth parameters. Based on the products you're updating and only forty clients, 9GB is about 3x the maximum size I would expect to see in a WSUS database. It's possible this is simply caused by excess unused updates, it's possible it's caused by fragmentation, it's probable it was caused by unnecessary autogrowth of the database due to insufficient update maintenance. You'll want a DBA to assist you in shrinking that database after you successfully run the Database Maintenance and Server Cleanup Wizard.

  • Error message when trying to connect to a SQL Server Database

    All:
I get the following message when I try to connect to a SQL Server Database within a form:
"Connection for Source DataConnection failed because the environment is not trusted"
Can anyone help me solve this problem?
    Thanks,
    BR

    Hi Brian,
In Acrobat, security concerns dictate that you cannot specify an ODBC connection string by using the Driver=; syntax. Therefore, the client computer using the form needs to have a DSN pre-configured for ODBC connections.

    1) You are not using Sepration of concerns for a solution that is doing data access, like using a DAL.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_concerns
    2) You are directly issuing SQL commands at the UI, leading to sql injection attacks.
    3) You are not using a UI design pattern, which leads you to tightly couple database activity to the UI.
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/228214/Understanding-Basics-of-UI-Design-Pattern-MVC-MVP
@System243trd, parameters are important to prevent SQL injection attacks (people will insert SQL commands into the database if you do not perform basic checking of what you are passing to the database). If you write a stored procedure try to make
the variables the correct SQL server data type to avoid problems later of people trying to call it directly.  Darnold924 is right, I see no code to prevent against SQL injection attacks. In addition, during development in some instances LocalSQLDB
database system is used and during deployment you usually need to use the production SQL server database. Moreover,  Linq-to-SQL is used on Windows Phone 8.1 and it is required for phone development later and so I highly recommend learning
it if you plan on developing windows phone applications.
@System243trd, If you want the code for the windows phone app I think it uses the MVVM model or that might be for universal apps or regular windows phone apps. I have been using the windows phone Silverlight pivot or panorama template (it might
be pieces of both). I've already submitted to the windows phone marketplace and it had to go through certification first. I plan on later making an article on it but I need to first fix one or two simple problems I have with it.  Here's a link to
the source code if you later want to look at the source code (in vb.net):

  • Connect a Microsoft SQL Server Database with eclipse

    Hi all,
I am having problem to connect a Microsoft SQL Server Database with eclipse. Is it possible to do it? And could someone explain me how, please? When I want to create a connection from the data source explorer, I have in the list of connection only derby and jdbc. Is anything else that I have to download?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Just choose generic JDBC and locate/specify the driver yourself. Exactly the same as you would use when you wrote JDBC code yourself.

  • Can dw cs3 connect directly to sql server database without a testing server?

I'm new to dreamweaver but have used script tools that link
directly to my sql server database.
Not in dw, so far. As of this early stage, I don't have or
want to use a web server, and it's blocking me
without one. I just want to prototype without a testing
server, directly to my database. And while I'll try php
later, I didn't want to have to get into it or cold fusion,
    etc. right away.
Can dw connect directly to sql server database without a
    testing server?
I'm running XP sp 3 at this point, and don't see IIS. There's
    probably some security issues
I'll have to tangle with. The goal is for my website to end
up on the company intRAnet, not the www.
fwiw, I can Build in Data Link Properties and get a
successful test to my sql server database via
Microsoft Data Link, but once I go back and try the test in
OLE DB Connection it balks on the testing server,
as I don't have one locally or otherwise. Isn't there a way
to link to db without a testing server?
    Thanks for any insights.

Yes, you can. However, Dreamweaver's PHP server behaviors
    work only with
MySQL. To connect to any other database, you need to hand
    code
    everything yourself.

  • Connecting to a SQL Server Database

Can someone please point me to a guide or tutorial that
explains the basics for connecting to an SQL Server Database. I'm
just installed Coldfusion Developer Edition and Microsoft SQL
Server Studio Express on Windows Professional. Do I go into the
administration section of Coldfusion to add the database so that
the datasource can then be used in my Coldfusion application? What
    other steps are there?

    Briefly,
    1. Create the database using SQL Management Studio Express.
    2. Set up your MSSQL security by following the tricks in
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=kb400255
    3. Go to ColdFusion administration and create the datasource,
as you suspected. Enter T30\SQLEXPRESS as the server, where T30 is
your windows computer name (obviously different, unless your naming
conventions and the choice of laptop matches exactly mine ;-). Your
SQLEXPRESS instance name might also differ, but that's the default
    I guess.
    4 That's it, you're ready to go.
    5. If things don't still work, start the SQL Server Browser.
(It's a Windows service installed by MSSQL Server). I haven't
figured out quite what this does, but it solved the problem for me.

Uhm SQL (Structured Query Language) is like the base
of all other type like MySQL and Oracle. Um, given the context I think the person was referring to "Microsoft SQL Server". Sometimes people will cut to the chase and refer to the product as "SQL". At those times it's understood by all parties that we're not talking about the query language, rather the Microsoft product.
I think this is one of those times.
    See
something i found in two seconds with the wonder of
    google http://sqlzoo.net/ & http://sqlzoo.net/w.htm
It's commendable that you're using Google. I'd argue that the OP should be making better use of it, too. But I don't think your response is applicable to this context. JMO, of course.

    Hi NewToReporting,
From you descriptions, I know you have tow questions: 1.Why the SQL Server Reporting Services does not create virtual directories in the wwwroot? 2. Why the error "A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing" happen? If I have misunderstood, please do not hesitate to let me know.
One of the changes in SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 is the removal of the Internet Information Services (IIS) dependency. So, we won't see report server virtual directories in the wwwroot folder.
The second problem is caused by the user '<machine name>\ASPNET' does not have permission to login the SQL Server database "Reports".
To solve the issue, please follow these steps:
1.Open SQL Server Reporting Services Configuration Manager(Start - All Programs - Microsoft SQL Server 2008 - Configuration Tools)
    2.Go to "Database" tab.
    3.Click "Change Credential"
4.In the coming dialog, fill the textboxes with this information(some textboxes are not modifiable )
Server: <the server name of the report server catalog database>
Authentication Type: Current User - Integrated Security (This will use the user we are login to connect to the database server.)
UserName:(If selecting "Current User - Integrated Security", this textbox is not modifiable. )
Password:(If selecting "Current User - Integrated Security", this textbox is not modifiable. )
    5. Click Next
6.In the coming dialog, configure the following information:
Authentication Type: Service Credential(This will use the user the reporting services running under to connect to the report server catalog database. The user is the one we configured in "Service Account" tab)
UserName:(If selecting "Service Credential", this textbox is not modifiable. )
Password:(If selecting "Service Credential", this textbox is not modifiable. )
7.Click Next to confirm the information.
    8.Click Next to apply.
This will auto add the user  '<machine name>\ASPNET'  to login group, set this user to be the owner of report server catalog database, and also give this user "RSExce" role.
Now, we are able to connect to the report server.

  • How to connect to a Sql server from Oracle using db link

    Hi All,
Does anybody have any idea about how to connect to a sql server from oracle database using db link to syncronize the data? I need to pull the data from Sql server table to Oracle tables and relay messages back to the sql server.
    Thank you,
    Praveen.

    we have 2 products - DG4MSQL and DG4ODBC.
DG4ODBC is for free and requires a 3rd party ODBC driver and it can connect to any 3rd party database as long as you use a suitable ODBC driver
DG4MSQL is more powerfull as it is designed for MS SQL Server databases and it supports many functions it can directly map to SQL Server equivalents - it can also call remote procedures or participtae in distributed transactions. Please be aware DG4MSQL requires a license - it is not for free.
Check out Metalink and you'll find notes how to configure both products.
