A different pop email issue

I have an issue with a pop account that I can get one e-mail off the server, but only one at a time. I have to delete the message I have in order to get the next one.
The account settings appear to be right, I have used them for years on my treo's with no problems. This is my primary account so this is a huge issue.
Any suggestions?

Its a attglobal.net account. and as far as I know there are no funny account requirements or settings like some of the bellsouth and att.net discussions have had.

  • HELP! I'm having major POP email issues

I’m having strange issues with email. My gmail is working perfect. But my 2 POP email accounts are giving me fits! When I first set them up pre 1.1.3 the worked perfect too. Now no matter what I put in the outgoing or incoming info parts the emails will not send or receive. I’ve deleted them and re entered them, I’ve had SSL on and off, I’ve changed the ports to what my Entourage has listed for these accounts. I’ve even had nothing in the outgoing and nothing! I just don’t understand how they could work one minute and not the next.

One thing to try is to delete the email accounts that you are having trouble with.
Now, go to settings>general>reset and reset network settings.
Once the iphone restarts, try adding the email accounts back to the iphone.
One thing about resettings network settings is that any wifi networks that you have set up in the iphone, you will need to re-join and add the passwords back in.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks Tags but that precentral artical is a load of crap!  I've been a System engineer since 1993. I've setup countless email solutions for fortune 500 companies over the years, both pop & imap, and I've never heard of such a lousy excuse from a vendor.
POP was working as it should prior to the 1.3 update - end of story!  imap-lite? Give me a break!  Put it back the way it was so everyone is happy again.
I would prefer to use IMAP but as I had already explained, IMAP hasn't worked properly on my Pre (with Netaddress.com) since I got it. Deleted emails remain in the server's inbox until I go onto the server and manually delete them or use POP!
It seems that the 1.3.5 did nothing more than create new issues by the way...  now none of my Google calander events, prior to August 2009 appear on my Pre anymore.  Furthermore, every event after March 15th is off by an hour even though it'scorrect on Google's website.  Also some off my Apps no longer work (ex. m:Mafia).  WTF?!

  • POP Email issues

I'm interested in seeing if anyone out there has had this issue, and what they might have done to fix it. I am using my MacBook (2.16 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 1 GB ram, OS X 10.5.4) at my office, where we are on an Embarq DSL line. Our office email is a POP account that runs through an outside server, such that Embarq isn't our smtp server. Basically, outgoing mail goes from here to the "infotogo.net" server, where they route it to wherever it needs to go (and that's a requirement, as our listServe has to run through them). I have been using Mac's Mail app., up until I had to give up this week and downloaded Thunderbird.
On to the problem... I have no issues with my .mac mail, aside from the MobileMe fun most of us have been having for a few weeks now. Mail sends and receives from .mac without issue, no matter where i am. My POP mail, however, and this seems to only happen when I'm attached (Ethernet cable) to our office network, can receive mail without issue, and sometimes will be able to send mail.
Basically, I can send one or two-sentence emails from the POP account, and once in a while, attachments or large text emails will go through. Most of the time, though, I can't send anything of any size. I'm not talking 2GB files, I'm talking two page PDFs and Word docs. I hit send, it starts sending, and either gets to 18% or about 85% and then you can watch the "Kb/Sec" number go from 120 or so to 64, to 44, to 4, to 0. and then it just sits there. Eventually, it will pop the message back up and ask me to pick another server. What's strange is, if i run the connection doctor in Mail, it says everything is fine.
Here's what I've tried: uninstalled and reinstalled the account at least 4 times; created another user for the machine, set up the account on that user, it worked ok, switched back to my normal user account, it worked fine for about 30 mins, then nothing again; talked with the ISP guys, they say the messages are getting to their server and almost instantly timing out, and my colleagues are able to send whatever they want, so it isn't the server; spoken to the Mac help folks twice, and they can't figure it out; the ports have been changed, they've been changed back; all of the settings for the account are correct.
Here's the kicker, though. Entourage and Thunderbird work perfectly fine. I've been using Thunderbird for two days, and haven't had an issue yet. I'm even testing it by sending big photos through as tests, and they are going through. This has to be a Mail problem... Any thoughts?

  • POP email issues with folders - 1.3.5 applied

My email is configured for POP since IMAP on the Pre doesn't properly delete messages from my server's inbox due to a problem with Palms code (according to my ISP).
My issue is that all messages stored in any folder on my server (other than messages in the sent, drafts or outbox folders) show up in my Pre's INBOX.  In other words, if I move a message from my inbox to a folder labled "work" using my ISP's HTML client, the message will remain in my Pre's inbox.  Similarly, if I move a message from the trash folder to a folder labled "blogs", it will appear in the Pre's Inbox.

  • Email Pop-UP message "Email issue detected"

Over the last week I continually receive a pop-up message with  "Email issue detected" and the options of "Fix" or "Ignore"
When I selct FIX it sends a test message to my Outlook 2003. A new pop-up then appears with no fault found. However it does refer to my current email address and also an old email address which I have not used in 5-6 years.
How do I stop this and get rid of old address?

Sounds like a bit of Malware to me.

  • Issues with pop email

I have an iphone 4s.  I have a pop email for work.  I did the update and now everytime i delete emails they come back when i go back in. Emails from a month ago are coming back  Is anyone else having this issue?

    I'd try two things:
    1) Log into work PC and mark all the emails as read
    2) Remove and re-add the email account.
As far as I recall, POP accounts "pops" the emails to your device, however, when you open it on your device it doesn't open on the actual server.  Somehow the device keeps thinking you have new emails, hence why it keeps reloading the emails.

  • Q10 Email Issues

On a regular basis email for one of my (4) different work email address will quit working on the Q10. The others work fine (all have same POP configurations with of course different log in credentials).  I reboot it and it will work again for a couple hrs or occasionally days. I have reviewed the email settings and I can't find anything out of place.  Blackberry user for over 15 years and have never had this issue until going to this phone.  I came from the Bold which never experienced this issue at all.  Email is through a domain that I own for my business.  Account is set up as POP.  Any idea what might cause this?  Solution??

I also have a user with this problem.
He got the Q10 this pass weekend. It has been working ok until last night. Here is what I have observed:
    - Open the email to view it, click any of the (Reply, Reply to All or Forward) icons, a new window opens with the To/CC/Subject info, cannot type a message in the body of the email (but can type in the To/CC/Subject fields). Also noticed there is no thread reflected in the body. He has two email accounts that show the same behaviour (Yahoo & Exchange ActiveSync).
    - Workaround - If you press and hold the email (in the list view), Options from the right of the screen appear, click on the Reply icon from there and a new windows opens that will let you type in the body and it displays the thread. This will let you reply to the emails.
    - The only way this cleared up was by shutting down the device and restarting it. Not an acceptable solution.
A quick Google search shows many others with this problem in this and Crackberry forums. This seems like an OS problem. Hopefully Blackberry can recognize this as a real issue.

  • Iphone 6Plus will not allow POP email account and cannot print to my wifi printers, I did on my Iphone 5 until I upgraded, can anyone help

Iphone 6Plus will not allow POP email account and cannot print to my wifi printers, I did on my Iphone 5 until I upgraded, can anyone help

I had talked with three people at Apple tech support on the phone, one person in the Apple store in Indianapolis, plus the other places I mentioned. Only the one young man in the Apple store was even able to identify the problem which was the POP vs. IMAP issue. And then like you said he was only able to say he hoped it would be fixed in the next update release. I did call him back this morning and told him about your simple solution, that I had seen it at the Apple forum, and that he might suggest bringing this topic up at the next staff meeting. I also let my Verizon rep know and an agent at Comcast. Something so simple yet it took three days and a lot of frustration to get fixed. Thanks again. You're my hero! ~ Carol Thomas
Also forgot to mention ... I got the iPhone 6 Plus about three weeks ago and did not have this problem. But I did a backup of my iPhone 5S on the computer and then used that backup to restore to my new iPhone. The iPad I did differently and just set it up as a new iPad with no restoring from the old one. That must have made a difference on the phone because it was set up just like the 5S ... as a POP3.

  • IPhone 6/iOS 8 email issues with wifi connection

    Hi
I have just upgraded from an iPhone 4 (iOS 7) to an iPhone 6 (iOS 8) and am having an issue with my pop email account. I used my iPhone 4 backup to set up new iPhone, so all the settings were as they were in my old phone. I have two email accounts, one is an IMAP account and the other is a POP account (which is my main email), I have no problems connecting to the server and downloading emails when connected via 4G (its super fast), but when I am connected via wifi, the POP account takes ages to connect to the server and check for emails (stuck on checking for email). I can speed up the process by closing mail app completely and reopening, then it checks and downloads really quickly (IMAP account has no problems), but this is frankly a pain.
I have spent ages on the phone with Apple support, who have got me to delete my POP email account twice, reset network settings, reset the phone using on/off button and home button, all to no avail. They are intent on telling me it's my email service providers fault, but as I pointed out there is no issue on 4G and my old iPhone (using iOS 7) on wifi has no issues, so can't be email provider. I have also tried using Apple's wifi in store to rule out router issue and the problem happened there too.
Have now run out of suggestions and options. I'm not sure if it's the phone itself, either a hardware or software issue (Apple support think not). Someone told me that it could be the wifi on my phone blocking the connection to the server. I have an appointment booked at the genius brand they have suggested wiping the phone and setting up as a new phone to see if the problem occurs, but this seems a bit drastic and I would lose all messages etc. Any help would be appreciated.

I have solved the issue! I tried my pop account on other devices with iOS 8 and the same thing happened, so I deduced that the issue is a glitch in iOS 8 with wifi and pop accounts. I managed to get hold of the IMAP settings for my email provider and all seems to be well. Happy days!

  • How to set up basic POP email on N8

I've been reading up on all the email discussions about the N8, and it seems like some things work fine, while others need more development.
In my case, I would like to set up email using a basic POP email account setup.  I have no need for "push" email right now - as I see it, receiving an email every half hour or so on my phone is an improvement over waiting until I get to my PC.
Ideally, I would like to leave the messages on my email server, so they will later on be downloaded to my PC.
I've noticed the following in one of the email discussions here:
"Cant believe no one else has responded with this before given the time this thread spans. I had this problem until I deleted and re-created my email (POP) accounts and then NOT accept the TOS at the end of the setup process. If you say YES and accept the terms, then your email accts get setup thru the Nokia messaging service and sent emails may get saved somewhere, but certainly not on the phone. You do not have to say yes to the TOS, just decline and finish setting up the email account."
Since I'm perfectly happy with the way email works on my laptop, using my existing servers, I think I should decline the TOS as described above.
I've found lots of guides on how to set up email on the N8.  Can anyone here recommend one for how to do (only) what I need, in order to manually set up POP email on a N8, using the identical server information and settings that I now have on my laptop?  Or, if this doesn't exist, can someone post the necessary steps here?
    Thanks!!!

I have had a little play with this but will just outline what I found seems to happen because I did not thoroughly test it. Others experiences may be different.
If setting up a new account and one selects one of the listed email service providers and not "Other" then it sets up an IMAP account and gives the choices that Rayhipkiss describes together with the terms and conditions acceptance request. This can be seen after the setting up by looking in the settings for the server (which often, maybe always?, is a nokia.supl.imap one). If one deletes the server and server ports and replaces them with the same email service provider's pop and smtp servers and ports then the same setup choices that Ray mentions still remain. Once the account is set up you can always go back and change the server and port entries in the N8 setup for that account (see below for a difference).
However, even though one has set the pop ports it still seems to do an imap connection - this can be tested by setting up a Gmail account where one can turn off and on allowing imap server connections in the settings on ones Gmail account's setting on the webmail site. One finds that disallowing imap connections but allowing pop connections blocks the N8 even if one has entered the pop servers and ports on the N8.
Now, if when setting up the account on the N8 one selects "Other" it normally (see below) gets one to enter the address and pass for the account and then goes straight to allowing you to enter the servers and ports. Now if one enters these and it then takes one straight to the client for you to collect and send email. But now if you go back into settings for that account one gets the setting choices that I outlined i.e. the one that includes "Don't sync to server". If set up as a pop account it seems to behave as a pop account - for example, if one turns on the imap servers at the Gmail denying pop connections then if one tries to collect mail Gmail comes back with a certificate error (the certificate is for imap not pop). Unlike the settings menu giving the other settings Ray outlines this settings menu does not allow one to nominate a reply to address different to the address sent from and nor does it allow one to go back and change the server and ports. To change the server and ports as far as I can see if set up this way one has to reset up the account from the start.
OK, even stranger, then what I found is if I set up an account using the offered service providers, not using the "Other" choice then deleted that account and then reset up the same account using the "Other" choice it then behaved as Ray outlines including the terms and conditions acceptance request and also behaves as an imap account even if one enters the pop servers and ports. So the "Other" account setup choice seems to behave differently according to whether one has previously setup that account using one of the non "Other" service provider choices or not?????
I don't know if anyone wants to experiment further and discover more or clarify the behaviours. I just did some quick playing around so did not analyse it much, however the above is the general gist of what I found. It is sometime since I set up email accounts on my E52 but from memory it behaved much the same way as the N8 does and is generally weak on handling pop accounts - in fact I would suggest that many who think they are using pop servers will find that behind the scenes it is really using imap ones.
A real downer for me is for a pop account there seems to be no way to set up a reply to address in the sent emails that is different to the address sent from. This need for me being due to the way I manage emails across several machines.
I'm off to have a beer

  • SharePoint Online and POP email

I have a client who is interested in using SharePoint Online, but they are using pop email hosted by Rackspace. Can someone tell me if this will cause any issues with SharePoint, is there any limitation in SharePoint functionality when doing this? Would
email enable workflows still work with POP accounts.  Also are there any issues with SSO and Federation with AD using SharePoint Online?
    Thank you for the help.
Thanks in advance for your time. Steven

    Hi,
The email address for users when used in a workflow is the email address set in SharePoint Admins User Profiles in Office 365. The field is called Work Email. This is automatically populated with the primary SMTP address of the user and mail is sent to it
if licensed for Exchange Online. Depending on the workflow, you should be able to send mail to external users, because the workflow when triggered will fall dependant on the permission of the user initiating the workflow.
No, there are no real issues with SSO (ADFS 2) or DirSync and SP Online... Just be sure to be mindful of deleting and recreating users, or stopping and starting sync because you could run into permissions issues within Sharepoint Online due to user guid
    conflicts.

  • Problem sending pop email

I have a problem sending (not receiving) pop email.
I am connected directly to my ISP (virgin.net, part of virginmedia.com) on adsl – (ie not trying to connect via another isp) - sharing the internet connection wirelessly via a modem/router to 2 Macs (macbooks), a Vista laptop and wiredly to an XP desktop.
The problem only happens with the Macs, not the Windows machines. One of the Macs is running Tiger with mail 2.1.3, the other Leopard with mail 3.2. Both are affected.
The problem only arises when trying to send longer messages (a few paragraphs - not MB). There is no problem sending short (one or two word) messages. I'm not sure where the cutoff comes.
What happens is that the messages are simply timed out, after a lengthy attempt to send. The error message is generally
‘The server response was: 4.4.2 omf09.hostedemail.com Error: timeout exceeded ‘
but sometimes (more recently, perhaps as a result of all the fiddling I describe below)
‘An error occurred while delivering this message via the SMTP server "(null)" ‘
This started on Friday 30th May. That day we woke up to find we were unable to receive email either. Looking at the mail accounts, I saw that the (incoming) authentication had spontaneously(?) changed from "password" to MD5 challenge response. Since returning it to password, we've been able to receive mail on both machines.
We only noticed the problem with sending a few days later as we hadn’t tried to send any longer messages; so it’s not absolutely certain that it’s related – but it seems likely.
We can send pop email from our googlemail accounts. We can also use virgin’s webmail with no problems.
This is what I’ve tried to resolve the problem:
checked that the server etc settings are configured according to Virgin’s instructions at
    http://www.virginmedia.com/help/email/set-up-pop-email.php#OS_X103
(on the advice of support there) deleted one of the affected accounts (and also removed the smtp server from the server list) and recreated it. No effect.
Installed Thunderbird and set up the same account. Same problem there.
Used Connection Doctor – shows connections to all servers as green
Rebooted the modem/ router, and both machines
    Repaired permissions
    Nothing seems to help.
I’ve done all this on the Tiger mac, on the theory that once I find the solution there is will also apply to the Leopard one ie that it’s not a glitch of some recent Leopard update.
Because the Windows machines (and webmail) work fine, Virgin clearly think that this is simply a Mac problem. I suspect that they have changed something in their setup, as it seems unlikely that it would otherwise affect two Macs running different versions of OSX in the same way.
I’ve only recently persuaded my wife to switch to a Macbook after her experience of Vista so this is not only annoying but embarrassing!
    David

I have a Mac and have had the same problem with Virgin – I have been unable to send emails of more than about 300 words, or any replies or attachments, since May 30, the day Virgin “improved” their email services. Receiving emails and using webmail are not affected. Virgin’s helpline has been totally unhelpful, refusing to accept that it has anything to do with them or that some other Mac users are affected in the same way. Their fault team insists it’s a problem with my computer. I have O.S. 10.5.3 Leopard, having just upgraded, but the problem occurred when I was still on O.S. 10.4. Tiger. My email program is Entourage (which Virgin’s helpline hasn’t even heard of!). When the problem first occurred, I wasn’t able to send any emails, but by changing the Accounts advanced settings to what Virgin recommended when I phoned them, I could at least send short emails. (Their announcement of the email changes said, “Don’t worry, you don’t have to do anything.”) Virgin are trying to put a huge spin on this shabby treatment of Mac customers by saying, “We’re doing lots of things to make your experience with us even better” – but with friends like this, who needs enemies?

  • POP Email on WP8 (Lumia 920) - Error Code 80004005

    Hello Astra 2025,
Sorry to contact you on a differnet issue.
I have had problems with my POP e-mail on my Lumia since i got it so cant receive my woork e-mails.
Can you please point me towards a discussion that references this or do you have some background knowledge as I have hit a dead end with Nokia....
    please read the following thread:-
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/winphone/forum/wp8-wpemail/pop-email-on-wp8-lumia-920-error-code-...

I do not know how to set up an IMAP account in my shared hosting account with Plesk, which provides POP3/SMTP access to emails.
I am a Microsoft Partner, develop Microsoft based solutions, and genuinely like the Microosft platform.  Still, after about 6 months and many hundreds of dollars later, I find myself running out of patience.  How long should I be patient for a solution, when Nokia/Microsoft/T-Mobile will not give me a solution or be part of the process.
Microsoft Partner Support, as mentioned, told me this morning in response to a follow-up from yesterday that there is nothing else that they can do and that the situation is out of their hands.  If it is out of their hands and they do not want to do anything about it, then what about me?
Should I bite the bullet, return the phone, and sadly jump onto the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android bandwagon?  If I do that, I will feel cheated, as I really would like to use Windows.  I kind of like the Windows Phone 8 interface.  How long should I be patient?
Email is a big issue.  I am sure that there are other issues too, just I am not aware of it left.
By the way, I never received an Portino update.  The last update was the one that Microsoft gave back in November, which caused the problem in the first place.
Thanks for your comment.  :-) It is nice to know that I am not alone I am not alone in suffering with this problem.
I really am thinking that this 80004005 error is a deal breaker, which is so sad.
By the way, Nokia cannot do anything.  Microsoft owns the OS and it is up to the carrier, T-Mobile USA in my case, to do something about the problem.  Microsoft posts major updates, which causes breaks and annoyances. T-Mobile is resonsible for minor updates and fixes.  T-Mobile, as you can tell by visiting t-mobile.com (as of 5/2/2013) is no longer interested in the Windows platform (okay Catwalk announced, but that has the same problem.  Catwalk is a Lumia 922 or so, as I understand things).  T-Mobile will not post an update.  They never have, so why start now?

  • POP email downloading already deleted emails on iPad 1

On my iPad 1, I will look at and erase email in my Verizon email account, but emails I have erased will often be re-downloaded again, sometimes almost immediately. It is very annoying. Sometimes it will re-download emails from days before. Does anyone else have this issue with a Verizon email account or any POP email account in Mail on the iPad? Is there some way to fix it?
I have my settings for this account to delete from server when removed from inbox.

Thanks for the response. However, the problem isn't that I get the same emails on multiple devices, that's something I am used to with my Verizon email account. Rather, the problem is that I am getting the same emails on the same device, specifically my iPad and iPhone 4S, emails that I have already viewed and then deleted on that device.
So, I will receive an email A, it shows up as a new email on my iPad with the blue dot next to it.  I will view that email A, thereby making the the little blue dot disappear, and then I will delete email A from my iPad. Then, next time I open Mail on the iPad, it will connect and download the very same email A, marking it once again as new with the blue dot. Rinse repeat. Sometimes, it will redownload these emails even without me closing Mail and reopening Mail; it will just redownload them right after I've deleted them in the same session. Sometimes it will redownload emails from days ago that I deleted off that devices days ago.
This never happens on my MacBook version of Mail, only my iOS devices, and it's very annoying, as you may imagine, because most of these are pointless adds and filler and I like to keep a relatively small limit of emails per account on these iOS devices.
