A failed transfer: music folder

Hello, everyone!
I'd been trying to transfer the music from my iTunes to my iPad mini Music folder. When I finally succeeded, I jumped the gun and didn't realise that the whole of my music collection would be then transferred to my iPad. Instead of waiting for it all to finish and then delete the files either colelctively or individually, I cancelled the sync / transfer. Now, my Music folder features many an artist, many a song and many an album that actually don't exist on it. I've attempted deleting them, but it isn't possible.
Ideally, I'd like my Music folder to be empty again, after which I'll decide on music I want in it and do it all properly. H-E-L-P! It's really annoying, looking at all of these titles and knowing they can't actually be played..
Thanks in advance. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Hi Ganesh1960,
To transfer music folder from Itunes to Iphone, you muse to use a professional Iphone music transfer software. It can transfer music, movies, videos, photos, SMS, contacts and other files from iPhone to computer.
Easy to use, works very well.

  • I'm trying to transfer music from iTunes on an old PC that uses an external storage device to a new PC (Windows 7) that will use that same external storage device.  I am also dealing with new iTunes 11.  How do I do this??  What folder does iTunes use?

I'm trying to transfer music from iTunes on an old PC (Windows Vista Home Basic) that uses an external storage device to store the files to a new PC (Windows 7 Starter) that will use that same external storage device.  I am also dealing with the new iTunes 11.  How can I accomplish this successfully?    What folder does iTunes use to store the data in?  I've tried several things.  Home Sharing caused duplicates but not all songs or apps transfered.  It is a large library! I've tried just setting the path in the Advanced Tab of iTunes preferences of the new computer with the external drive connected the same as the path when the external drive is connected to the old computer.  This was the best solution so far but still a few artists missing and some apps. Any suggestions?

Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
With iTunes 11 you might also have a Home Videos folder inside iTunes Media.
In the simplest cases you copy the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> on the source computer to <User's Music> on the target machine, install iTunes, and it "just works"TM.
If the media folder (inside the red outline) has been split out to a separate location then you can copy the library folder (outside the red outline) as before and connect the drive holding the media so that it has exactly the same path as before. If the drive appears as D: on one system and E: on the other then the library won't be able to find the media.
The crucial file is iTunes Library.itl - this contains a record of the tracks that have been added to the library, ratings, play counts, playlists etc.

  • How transfer exact arborescence from my music folder on Hard Disk to iTunes ?

    Hello All i'm French
How transfer exact tree from my music folder on Hard Disk to iTunes ?
I'm Dj, i use my Mac for that. I'm new on Mac.
On my Pc, i have create many Folders and sub Folders for my music (sample : House/march2010/House Club)
This tree is very important for me and i need to conserve this on Hard drive Mac in the same place.
I Want copy the same tree on Itunes but if i create that myself, it's to long !!
    Help me please !
(arborescence in french, tree in english)

iTunes doesn't have any automatic way of re-creating your directory structure in terms of folders and playlists in iTunes.   You will have to drag each music folder to a playlist and then arrange these in folders inside of iTunes (which I warn you can can slow down iTunes a lot).   I guess the once chance of speeding this up will be if somebody has written an Applescript to do it, but I don't remeber seeing any anywhere.

  • Duplications during itunes music folder transfer

I followed the steps detailed on this Web site for the transfer of the iTunes music folder from my laptop to an external hard drive. I then moved all my music files from another location into the folder, then did the "add folder to library" command. But during that final step, every song on my hard drive, now in the newly created iTunes music folder, was duplicated, and the duplicates showed up in the iTunes panel. I had the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" unchecked. I've since reloaded iTunes and am beginning with a clean slate. Any ideas how to avoid the duplication problem during the next attempt?

  • Transfer "My Music" folder for one HDD to another

    Ok friends,
I have this little problem of my iTunes.
I was have all my music to an external HDD under a folder "G:\Antonis\Music". I was put some of this music (about 2000 songs) to iTunes and i was have a lot of play lists. I desided to transfer all my music files to local HDD to "My Music" folder of windows 7 under a subdirectory "My Best Music".
After this i must go to each song and try to play it so the itunes to locate the file again. I expect after I locate one file, itunes will find automatic all other files that is in same sub-directory or even best in same HDD.
But the iTunes does not, it can't find any, so i must "locate" one by one file.
    Have anyone any solution?
If it isn't any maybe aplle improve itunes in the next version.

Depends on what you need to accomplish. I use a basket of AppleScripts...YMMV.

  • Time Machine Backup Fails With Error 36 on Music Folder?

Hi. I've been having backup errors since a clean install of Leopard (and immediate upgrade to 10.5.2). I keep getting a pop up that says time machine has failed. • How do I restore my music library to my music folder on my Ipod Device (tried to transfer music, deleted it, Ipod too small to take all music and now no music in device folder to sync)?

    Hi,
Tried to move music from one pc to another by following these instructions http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329 but my ipod wouldn't contain all music so I gave up. I deleted the music on the device. Now I have all music in Itunes library but non in the music folder of the device (my ipod). How do I get music to be moved to this folder.
    Thanks.

You really should transfer your music over to your laptop as I assume you are going to take it to University and sync your ipod from it.
Try connecting the computers by wifi and copying your itunes foler over. Or Connect via an etherent network cable ( about 3 times faste than wifi) and connect your itunes folder over.
Here are the details. Just think of your laptop as an external hard drive for your computer

  • Itunes 11.0.3.42 fails to add music folder to library?

I recently upgraded from itunes 10.x to 11.0.3.42.
With the old version, I could select from the menu to add a music folder with wav files to my library and it would do it perfectly fine, converting the files as it went (so far as I know wav files can't be put on the ipod).
With the new version, I select 'file->add folder to library', select my folder and it analyzes the songs at the top of the window (because I enabled the 'Sound Check' volume control in the preferences to make playback volume consistent) but nothing gets added to the library! I've even tried adding individual files and dragging and dropping into itunes but nothing works. If I go into windows explorer and right-click on a wav file and say 'open with itunes', it opens up and starts playing in itunes with no trouble! It doesn't even convert it to play it.
Does anyone know how to fix this or a work-around?

I was browsing through my itunes catalogue and I found the songs I tried to import! I suppose they've been there all along, just not where I was expecting. I was expecting it to have all of the metadata attached to it so it would be under the artists' name or the album... It was under "Unknown Album" by "Unknown Artist". At least the songs are there with the song titles attached, though the track numbers are part of the titles. Still, it would be nice to not have to manually fill in all of the tags. = (
For those of you who also have this question, check to see if the same thing happened to you.

  • Moved iTunes music folder to HDD, Now iTunes Can't Find it--Help :-)

I finally was able to get an HDD that actually mounted and now I have moved my iTunes music folder based on the instructions here: iTunes: Moving your iTunes Music folder. I printed them out and followed them step-by-step.
Before moving the folder iTunes Music from my internal HD (~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music) to the trash, I played random tracks with no problem. So I moved the folder to the trashcan, then emptied the trash as instructed. Went back to iTunes to play some music, and now all of my tracks have the dreaded exclamation point in the first column. When I click on a track to play it, I get the message "The song 'blah blah blah' could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
Of course, I can select 'Yes' and go through the steps and locate the files on my HDD. This, however, is not an optimal process with over 2400 songs. Does anyone know what went wrong with my relocation?

    PowerBook G4 PowerPC   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iPod 30G, MyBook 250GB HDD, iTunes 7.1.1

I've used that method to transfer music from one drive to another literally dozens of times and never seen it fail in the way you experienced. I'm at a loss to explain how you could have followed the instructions, successfully transfer the music to the new drive, and yet have the iTunes database still think the music should be on the original drive.
What I can suggest are two solutions: One for it you don't care about keeping your playlists, rankings, and playcounts intact. The other for if you do care.
Fast fix but loses the meta data: Quit iTunes. Open your home directory, find the music folder and open it. Trash everything you see in your music folder and restart iTunes. All your music and playlists will be gone. Open your new drive on the desktop, find the folder with your music, and drag it into your iTunes window. Your music will be imported into a new iTunes catalog and then you can create your playlists.
Keeping the metadata: After quitting iTunes, move the music back to its original location by dragging the music folder(s). Unmount the new drive and play some music. Remember the songs you clicked on and showed iTunes how to find? Do those songs all over again and once you've verified the iTunes library now points to all the songs properly, delete the songs from the new drive and repeat the steps to move them again.

  • How do I transfer music from my iPod to my iTunes library?

I have a new laptop that I just downloaded iTunes on. I plugged in my iPod but can't sync it without deleting everything.
When I first got my iPod I never made an iTunes account because I just used tons of CDs to make my library.
Now I have an iTunes account but I don't know how to transfer my music to the library without just starting over and relying on lots of CDs I don't want to dig up.
    Any help?? Thank you!

If you still have the computer with your original library these are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.
As above there are free tools out there...

  • 5310 can't transfer music

Whenever I try to transfer music using PC suite it converts it and puts it in my collection folder but then as it tries to transfer it to the phone it comes up with "unknown error".Sometimes it will get half way through copying before the message appears sometimes at the start there seems to be no particular point that it fails. If i try to drag and drop them not using PC suite it comes up "phone not responding" or "unable to complete operation". it all started when I was Deleteing old contacts through PC Suite and it froze. At first I couldn't amend contacts either as you would click on a contact and it would pop up for a fraction of a second then disappear but on updating pc suite this problem is solved but still can't transfer music.using latest phone software update v 05.81 according to updater. can some one help

Hello, and thanks for that. Unfortunately I've already tried the restore road and it still does it?
The ipod shows up OK as a drive and in itunes. Its only when I try to transfer video's music etc then it starts the process after a few seconds the ipod HD starts clicking disappears from itunes and the ipod goes to the green apple black back ground and resets itself.
If anyone has any idea's please let me know before I jump up and down on it
