A package that "patches" another package

I'd like to make a PKGBUILD for usb-rndis-lite v0.11. Usb-rndis-lite contains files that should replace some files from 'kernel26' package. Is it right when one package replaces files from another package? If so, what is the right way to do that?
The point is that USB RNDIS driver, included in current 2.6.26 kernel is either outdated or buggy, so sometimes it needs to be replaced by SynCE's usb-rndis-lite. Unfortunately that driver is a part of kernel26 package and cannot be separately removed.

Mr.Cat wrote:Nothing would prevent me from doing this, but that would be the "wrong way", I suppose. And you've mentioned one of the reasons - possible problems with correct package removal. Another problem I see - is that when kernel26 is updated - my package's files would be owerwritten.
Exactly. Pretty ugly solution, although possible. In the install script, you can specify an uninstall function, so theoretically you can backup the original driver on install, and restore on uninstall, with a check if it hasn't been updated meanwhile.
UPD:
bender02 wrote:There's a special directory where you can put your patched/updated version of a driver, and then modprobe/insmod would load that new version, when the driver is requested.
Thanks, worked for me.
UPD:
I've submitted a PKGBUILD for rndis-usb-lite (v0.11) to unsupported: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=20336.
I'm glad it worked.

    It may be that you have security turned on to prohibit this. You can register your drive by going to the website through your browser more easily.

  • Is possible to make webservice that call another webservice??

    i already make 1 webservices(a) project and also make a class file that invoke another webservice(b)... when i test with SOAPUI to invoke my webservice(a), it failed. but when i make a main class and run as an application (standalone), everything is going good.
    is possible to make a webservices n invoke another webservices??????? if yes, can u give me an example..???

    yes its possible. I have written a web service that is part of our system that calls a third party system and passing credentials across to amalgamate data from 2 distinctly separate systems. A call is made to my webservice and in the code for that service I invoke a method on a set of stubs built against a third party wsdl.
    Similarly for smart card authentication users first call my webservice, but as I am not responsible for the smartcard validation itself I call another departments webservice, this time its a message based service and not RPC but either way I still build a SOAP message and then send it to a service which then does the smartcard validation for me.
    They are both working examples of a web service calling another web service.

    What is the floating circle on the screen that opens another screen in grayscale? It's a white circle inside another circle border. and it moves with my touch.

    Dear Mr SJ0123
    You seem to have a clue about all the tricks. As many I have read on this communtiy site, my power button is unresponsive. I have dealt with the power on and off by setting the Auto-Lock function to 1 minute, which is truly not trouble. Since my warranty is past, in Switzerland we must cough up 260CHF (275$) for a replacement.
    I can manage..EXCEPT I MISS MY SCREEN SHOT!
    Any ideas about how to use this function w/out the power button? Is this Assistive Touch my answer? I read on your website and really didn't get the impression that it would work.
    Thanks for any hints.

  • JSP import self made Package that imports another self made package!

    I also posted under JSP section.
    I really need an answer please.
    Quite new to JSP & java. Not sure about how to use import properly for my problem below:
    Using Tomcat4.12 & jdsdk1.4 on WinXP
    So I create a package - lets call it p1.
    For all java files that belong to this packge I put on the top line of code:
    package p1;
    All files of package p1 are put in Tomcatdir\webapps\myapp\WEB-INF\classes\p1
    everything complies & the packge runs fine - theres a servlet in it & I'm happy.
    Now I create a new package to go with my webapp. Lets call this p2.
    However there is a java file in p2 that uses a class from p1 package.
    So in that file I put:
    import p1.theclassname;
    However this will not work because this line refers to:
    Tomcatdir\webapps\myapp\WEB-INF\classes\p2\p1
    so it will not find the class. Because its in:
    Tomcatdir\webapps\myapp\WEB-INF\classes\p1
    Anyway I can make it comple by moving files about & making a more complex dir structure & more complex package names - but this cant b the propler way to do it?????
    Anyway with my quick fix to this problem I cause a new porblem - in my jsp files that use both packages I cant import the classes I needas the are all complied in packages that are now in the worng place on the hard drive!
    I also tried doing this by just having p1 where it was to start with & then instead of making p2 - I'd just complie it in the classes folder & have it import p1. This works fine until I try to import the classes in JSP - I tried things like:
    <%@ page import=".*" %>
    but it doesnt work unless its in a packge like
    <%@ page import="p2.*" %>
    but if its in a package then the sturcture to the other packge is all wrong again!!!!!!!!
    I hope someone knows what I'm going on about.
    Please help me.

    you are answer izzaman's problemYes
    he has solve already,
    right?Well, I wasn't sure if he really solved it, or just found an ugly workaround, so I wanted to make sure it wasn't the latter.
    can you help me to clear me doubt also. I'm new
    to Java. my problem has been posted earlier....I don't know specifically how to fix your problem. It's probably a classpath issue, though it may also be some simple oversight like a misspelling or something. It's hard to say without more details. If it is a classpath issue, then whatever izzaman did may also work for you. I haven't done much with servlets and JSP lately, and when I have, I've never had classpath problems, so I don't know what kinds of issues are common there.
    I would suggest starting a new thread for your problem. That's generally what you should do anyway, and it will get more notice if it's in its own thread. Don't put it in Adanced Language Topics though. Put it in the JSP forum or Java Programming.
    Good Luck!

  • Can a dbms_job.run execute a job that execute another dbms_job.run?

    Hi,
    I'm using Oracle9iR2 database.
    I create a package procedure that loop through a list of jobs from user_jobs table and run it using dbms_job.run(jobid).
    Then I schedule this package procedure as a job (say JobA) itself to execute the above procedure every 15 minutes.
    However, it always fail. When I execute JobA manually from sqlplus, I get the folllowing error. Any idea what's wrong?
    SQL> exec dbms_job.run(55805);
    BEGIN dbms_job.run(55805); END;
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-12011: execution of 1 jobs failed

    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_JOB", line 272

    Please advise.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    I am bchurn's colleague who is currently also looking into this problem. The code that we have is similiar to yours except there's a cursor looping through all the failed jobs and executing them.
    I am not sure what is the actual difference but it is actually a job running a procedure instead of through SQL Plus.
    However, we found out that a job cannot run another job. But it seems to be alright with your settings :-/
    What we have is actually a job created for every email to be sent out to our users (jobA). But many a times, the emails were not sent out because of unknown problems (during that time - I think it's the ORA-00600 error).
    The last time we created the second job (jobB) for the purpose of re-executing failed jobA jobs. The errors are that a job cannot execute another job.
    Then, we worked around to change jobB to re-adjust the execution time for all the jobA jobs instead of directly reexecuting them. While some failed jobA jobs are executed successfully because of it, some still remains. We found out that the errors from failed execution of jobA jobs as following:
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [kgassg_2], [], [], [], [], [], [], []
    ORA-29279: SMTP permanent error: 555 5.5.4 <fieldNameHere> parameter unrecognized
    The second error very seldom. First one most common. The jobs eventually being executed successfully after many re-execution (sometimes about 3 to 4 times, some over 20 or 60 times). Anyone can give suggestions or inputs on the first error? The error log file and its trace files do not give much information on the errors with something like the following:
    Error log file:
    Errors in file /opt/app/oracle/products/920/admin/testapp/bdump/somefilename.trc:
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [kgassg_2], [], [], [], [], [], [], []
    And when I go and search for the somefilename.trc, it does not exist.
    Any idea on how to solve this or identifying the actual problem?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Cannot resolve symbol error when compiling a class that calls another class

  • Calling a constructor of an object that extends another object

    suppose you have the source:
    class A {
    public int x = 1;
    public int y = 5;
    public A(){y = 6;)
    class B extends A {
    public B(){}
    public B(int a) { super(a); }
    Now suppose in the main function you say
    B b1 = new B();
    I would think the value of x is 1 which it is, but the value of y is 6, why is this, I did not call the A constructor or does an object call the parameterless constructor of its superclass automatically. If that is the case, it will clarify to me why y gets the value of 6 and not 5.

    Unless you specify a super call, it will be done. The next two constructors are the same:public B () {
        x = 2;
    public B () {
        super ();
        x = 2;
    }Another thing for you to try: remove the A () constructor (but keep the A (int)) and see if B will still compile.
    Kind regards,
    Levi

  • Trying to load OS X on iMac that has another OS on it. Volume not showing u

    I recently purchased this iMac on eBay:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=1302 66706335
    As you can see from the description in the auction, there is another operating system loaded on the computer, not an Apple OS.
    I figured no big deal, I will install OS X as soon as I receive my computer.
    It arrived yesterday and when I tried to load OS X, right when you get to the part where it says choose destination volume, nothing shows up. I'm assuming that it's because there is another operating system loaded on there entirely, but how on earth can I get passed this? I really don't want to be stuck a.) taking it to Apple and pay them to do something that I can do (loading the OS), or worse, b.) be stuck with this awful Linux operating system that is installed on there already.
    Does anybody have any advice on how I can get passed this? I'm desperate.
    Thanks!

    I have a question regarding the install on another machine using target disk mode.
    My eMac apparently isn't reading CDs when loaded in the tray. Lovely. I need to do a fresh install of the OS and since it can't read the CD, can I do this via target disk mode?
    I am using the eMac as the host, and the iMac (recently did a fresh install, as you know) as the target computer. I loaded the install disk in the iMac machine and when I rebooted everything, I can't see where the disk would be mounted on the host machine (eMac).
    You were saying that this can be done—although not recommended—so, am I looking in the wrong spot for the CD from the iMac's HD?
    Thanks (again).

  • Inventory says that Patch is not available but regedit has the patch.

    Hello,
    Ours is an HFM 11.1.1.3 and 3 months back we applied HFM 50 patch on it.
    Last week when I was applying HFM 500 patch we noticed that when I fired "hpatch lsinventory" it did not had HFM 50 patch in it, but when I saw in the regedit I was able to see HFM 50 patch in it and also I could see HFM 50 patch in HFM client.
    Then I tried applying HFM 500 patch but I got error saying pre-requisite HFM 50 patch is not available , so I applied HFM 50 patch again and then applied HFM 500 patch over it.
    What I understood is that our inventory might have got created by somebody in our team, but my question is do we have to reapply all the patches every time when we re-create inventory and then try to apply higher version of HFM patch.
    Regards,
    Rajnish Singh

    If you recreate the inventory you will lose the history of installed patches.
    If you then need later to install a patch which has a prerequisite patch, you will need to reapply the prerequisites (as you did) before you can proceed with your new patch.
    In short, you should not be recreating the inventory except in an emergency (corrupted) situation.
    going forward, oracle will be trying to release less smaller Patch Set Exception patches and more complete PSU patches (Patch Set Updates). if you keep up to date with the Patch Set Updates and minor releases, even if an inventory is recreated somewhere along the line, there should not be too many additional patches to be installed.

  • Compiling error with a class that references another class

    Hello,
    I have two Java-Classes in two files in the same folder. Both are in the same package. The class StatusZwo should reference the function ValueX of the class Status.
    The class Status has a function which returns the boolean value true. If compile the file Status.java there is no error, but if I
    compile the file StatusZwo.java there comes the error message:
    D:\Test\Test>javac StatusZwo.java
    StatusZwo.java:12: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : variable Status
    location: class Test.StatusZwo
    System.out.printLn(Status.ValueX);
    StatusZwo.java
    package Test;
    import Test.*;
    public class StatusZwo{
    public static void main (String arguments[]) {
    System.out.printLn(Status.ValueX);
    Status.java:
    package Test;
    public class Status{
    public static boolean ValueX() {
    return true;
    What is the problem?
    Thank you Flo

    Next time please use [code] and [/code] tags around any code.
    There are two issues on one particular line;
    [code]System.out.printLn(Status.ValueX);[/code]
    should be
    [code]System.out.println(Status.ValueX());[/code]

  • When i try to sync i get a message that says another user has it open

    I am trying to use itunes to sync my ipod and ipad (which I have done many times) and I get a message that says that another user has it open and it needs to be closed.  Does anyone have any guidance?

    A new one for me... A Reset never hurts and may help:
      Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off option that shows up first).
    The message has nothing to do with iDevice.
