A program to convert videos...?

I am a proud new owner of a Black iPod classic. I have a Sony camcorder, and have some movies I have made that I would like to put on my iPod. The only problems is, is that the movie has to be compatible with Quick Time player, and my movies are not. They are in Windows Media Player format. If anyone has any ideas how to convert it, or any programs that will convert it for me, that would be great.
Thanks in advance for all the help!!!! =^)

Videora is considered the 'industry standard' of converting videos for iPod on Windows (I think :P)

  • Best program for converting videos

what is a good program to conver videos to the ipod?

this all depends on what kind of video you are wanting to put on your ipod i would think that quick time pro7 would be the best if you have a mac(which i dont so im only guessing), i have a xp pro and found as the others have stated that videora was the easiest and fastest way to put video on my ipod.i purchased quick time pro 7 and found that it took way to long to convert the files to .m4v format additionally losing sound for the file everytime i converted it. i could not get in to the sound management for the file when using quick time pro 7, videora is already set up for the sound for the video. i never once tried converting files to .mp4 with quick time pro 7, but when converting to .m4v file it took forever to convert a 12 minute video(4-6 hours minimum). quick time pro 7 has lots of cool features if you are putting your personally recorded videos which videora does not. those are the pluses and minuses i have found with both programs. i would suggest you try free first and if you need better tools for your video, purchase quicktime pro 7.

    I use Xp -thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If the videos are on your computer, just drag them into iTunes when viewing the library. Then right click it and go to convert video for ipod.
If you want to do that, make sure iTunes is up to date...

FilmRedux (open source version of Visual Hub) or FFmpegX. Alternatively, you can upload to YouTube, let them convert the file, and then download the converted file version.

  • Is there a program that converts Quicktime video files into Media Player?

Is there a program that converts Quicktime video files into Media Player video files?
      Windows XP

Windows Media Player on a PC plays avi and mpg in addition to the WMV and ASF files so you can either use a Windows program that generates those files from .mov format or you can use QT Pro to convert the .mov to uncompressed avi and then use Windows Media Encoder to make WMV files. Although it may be out there no one here has mentioned a PC program that converts directly from .mov format to WMV. There is a program for Mac OS that does it and I believe that company is working on a version for Intel Macs so it wouldn't be much of a stretch for them to port it to Windows.

  • What program to install and convert video formats...?

I am trying to find a program that will install on 10.3.9 and that can convert video formats (ie mpg and mp4 to wmv). Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated. I did buy a newer Mac (PowerBook G4 with Leopard) but for now need to use my old Mac. I need to convert to WMV to use on my GoGear mp3 player, which is NOT Mac compatible, only Windows. How I miss my iPod Thanks again for any help.

Well ffmpeg should be included by default. It is the core of the VH engine, but it may have been updated since your version of VH. And you may not need it depending on the conversion you are trying to make. Which version of VH is it ?
So you are trying to convert the mpeg and mp4 files into wmv. Do you select the 320 pixels wide option ? Are the source movies 320 pixels wide ? or larger ?
What settings do you use in VH ? ie. Which tab do you select for converting to ? and what options do you select within it ?
Do you change the destination directory ?
If you open the mkv files in QuickTime, it may complain about missing codecs, click Cancel and it'll leave you with a blank window. Select "Show Movie Properties" under the Window menu, what is under "Format" for the Video Track ? Is there also an Audio Track ?
QuickTime shouln't complain about the movie, mpeg and mp4 should open and play just fine. If it does complain it's almost certain that the files are not the format they claim to be - the Show Movie Properties will sort this out.

  • Best program for TOD video converting Yosemite?

Can anyone recommend a good free program for converting TOD/MOD videos on Yosemite?
I used Handbrake for a period of time but it rarely updates and needs quite a lot of tweaking to get exactly the desired result, which makes me annoyed. I am still using the iPhone 4S profile.
    Thanks.

macx video converter is the software I'm using now to finish my video conversion. It rocks with Yosemite and my MacBook Air. It supports a wide range of videos as input, like AVI, MOV, TOD, MOD, MKV, M2TS, FLV, WMV, etc.
I think it is good enough for me. You can have a try.

  • How to convert videos to bitmaps?

I couldn't find an solution how to load videos with Java and then convert still images to bitmaps. I should make a program that loads video files and then does some processing to the images after I get the data in still images. Is it possible to use standard codecs or is it nessessary to make or get a java version of a codec? I would be happy to find even a solution for mpeg1 -loader.
So, if I have two seconds of video packed with mpeg1 with 25fps, I should have a way to convert it to 50 different unpacked images that I could process with java.
If anyone knows how to proceed with this kind of thing, it would be a real help!

Thanks. As long as those files aren't copy-protected (as they probably will be if these videos are from a download store), it shouldn't be difficult to convert them. If you'll search the iTunes for Windows forum for "video convert", you should find several threads with recommendations on video converters you can use:

  • No Audio When Converting Videos For iPod

whenever i convert video files for my ipod they do not have audio. i have tried several programs, and none work. i have read other discussions about this, and found that MPEG Streamclip worked for other people, however whenever i try to convert using this program, it says "Error: Can't Prepare The Movie" Can anyone tell my why i can't convert these videos? i cannot figure it out. thanks alot.

I am not sure what you mean when you ask what the "compression formats" are.The compression formet refers the manner in which the media was encoded and, by extension, how the media must be decoded. I.e., it determines which codec (encoder/decoder or compressor/decompressor) is to be used with the media file.
If you can tell me where to find those i could tell you what they are. I can, however, play the video in itunes, quicktime, and MPEG Streamclip.Simnce the files are playable in QT, the most common place to look for codec information is in the "Show Movie Info" window following the "Format:" entry. E.g., it might say:
    Format: MPEG2 muxed, 640 x 480orFormat: Apple MPEG4 Decompressor, 320 x 240, millions
    AAC, Stereo, 48,000 kHz
i also am not sure if there is audio in the source file.Do you hear any audio when the original file is played? If not and there is no audio track (or "muxed") information, then there may not be any sound for you to convert in the first place.
how do i find out if it is muxed? If it is "muxed," the format entry we say so. In this case blocks of audio data and blockes of video data are interspersed in a single data stream (track). This is the normal way MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 audio/video data is synchronized. In addition, these formats commonly lose their audio content when converted using QT Pro, iTunes, iMovie, FCE, FCP, or other QT based "frame-to-frame" synchronized workflow. (In the case of MPEG-2 in MPEG Streamclip or QT, the QT MPEG-2 component must also be installed in order to convert the video data alone.)
most of my videos that won't convert for an ipod are downloaded from the internet. how can i find out if they are corrupted or incomplete?Internet files should always be considered suspect -- especially if they come from a peer-to-peer source. Messages that indicated QT cannot open an otherwise fully compatible QT format is often the best indication that there is a corruption problem or that the files were improperly closed at one point or another.
most of my videos that won't convert for an ipod are downloaded from the internet. how can i find out if they are corrupted or incomplete?Normally ypu would post them to a web site or FTP storage area and post the URL. If files were downloadedd from a particular web site (e.g., a QT movie trailer), simply post the URL for the particular web page.

  • Error in converting video?? not enough memory??

I've tried converting a 1 hour video but halfway through conversion it stops and a message comes up saying "error: cannot convert video, not enough memory"
I've tried deleting heaps of stuff off my itunes as well as my computer but it still keeps on doing that. I've also tried leaving itunes as the only application open while it is converting.
Is it talking about a different type of memory? on just itunes? or computer?

So you have about a gig of ram? Well, that isn't so high when it comes to video encoding, especially if you may be doing other things on the computer at the same time (web browsing, etc etc etc). Try quitting EVERY program except the current conversion you're doing.

  • What exactly does "convert [video] selection for iphone" do?

I have a lot of video, both movies and tv shows, that I've used ffmpegx to convert (usually from .avi) to an AppleTV preset in h264. As it stands, iTunes won't allow me to put them on the 3G. (I know some people have had problems with putting h264 on their 2.0 firmware phones, but this question is a little different.) If I tell iTunes to convert the selection for me, what happens? Does it duplicate the video in two resolutions? Will it reduce the resolution and make the video look worse on my AppleTV? Or is it completely harmless?
Also, is there any reliable way to convert video in a batch, perhaps with a third-party program? It's pretty obnoxious that you can only convert one video at a time, slowly, with iTunes.

The iPhone can play these formats:
H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.
What ever you do its going to take a long time to convert a large library. Which is why I recommend the Turbo.264. I'm converting a full length movie to iPhone format at 48fps as I write this. Also because the Turbo takes the strain off the Mac I can carry on using my computer with no problems.
