A way for vb6 to comunicate with as3?

Hi,
Im trying to find away of getting flash to play happy with vb6.
This was easy enough when using as2. But when using as2, for a vb developer to change a variable in flash they would use somthing like _root.vartochange = "blar blar".
However in as3 there is no such thing as "_root". Ive research this alot and caunt find anyway for vb to comunicate with flash. Would turning the flash into an air app make things any easier does any one know? This is a standalone flash app Im developing and not for web.
Has anyone a solution to this?

I hadn't seen a reply to this message and I'm running into the same problem with JAZN, i.e. JAZN-LDAP is authenticating all users with a blank password.
Is the only solution to turn off anonymous binds?

You can't share with other devices if you are using different Apple ID's and iTunes account on them. You can only share if you use the same ID.

[Solved] What's the best way for me to help with Arch?

I've been using Linux for about 10 years and Arch for a little over a year. I used to do a lot of distro-hopping but I've found that since finding Arch, I haven't been doing much of that. I don't know why it took me so long to find it.
Anyway, I'd like to give back a little so what's the best way for me to help? I'm not a programmer so I'd be no help there. I have made a couple contributions to the wiki and filed a bug. I know that kind of stuff is easy and obvious. Is there anything else I could be doing?

I hear the Arch Linux Magazine could always use some contributions, if you're inclined towards that sort of thing. I've been wanting to write an article for a while, but I've not run into anything in my Arch experience so far that's really inspired an article out of me.

Best way for using Property Loader with Excel

I am trying to architect a test system to run a variety of tests (DIO, AIO, PWM...etc) and I noticed that Property Loader can be quite handy. I am trying to find the best method to utilize NI TestStand Property Loader to load test properties from Excel into some sort of parameter database. The properties shall be loaded only once when the test sequence is opened. The parameters of the excel table will have a format like this:
TestType TestCondition ECUPin# Limits.High    Limits.Low Units PWM_Frequency CAN_TX   CAN_RX
DI        ON 1    0x0102   0x0304
AI    OFF    2    0             0.1                V                                0x1324   0x0405
The table will look much more complex than this one, but once I know how to do this I should be fine. Does anyone have suggestions for what I am trying to do ?

There are a couple methods of thought here:
Property Loader- You can use the tool to export and import properties. The best way to do it is to export the properties that you want in the Excel file using the tool. Then make copies of the file and change the values in there. This will ensure that once the values come back into TestStand they will all go to the correct place.
FileGlobals Method- You can create a large container which has all the correct variables in it in your file globals or locals. There is an object in the TS API called a PropertyObjectFile. This file is a simple text file that contains the properties, sub properties and values of any property object in TS. You can easily just pass the container into it. The problem with this is that you then have to create a VI or some tool to edit the values in it. You can go in there and manually change them but it's not as intuitive.
Property Loader to FileGlobal Container- This would basically be a hybrid of the two. Pretty much what you described in your post. Where the property loader only has to load the container in your FileGlobals.
Which method is best? It all depends on your application. If you ever need to dynamically export the properties then you can't use the Property Loader.
One thing to remember is that you should only Import/Export properties that need to be changed in the Excel file. This will help reduce the number of properties.

Is there a way for DAS to work with anonymous bindings turned off?

Hi,
I noticed that whenever I set "Allow Anonymous Binds" to "0" in oidadmin, DAS stops working after the next reboot. However, when the option is set to "1", JAZN lets users access protected pages when they do not supply a password (though the correct username must still be provided.) Does anyone know of ways to either get DAS to work without anonymous access or to make JAZN not authorize users who supply blank passwords with anonymous access?

Listening for a FMS messge with AS3

I need to get messages from Flash Media Server. I've had a
hard time finding any good books or even info on how to setup a
NetConnection to listen for a Flash Media Server message and to

Relax. I was providing a reference to the other thread for context since they seem to be the same discussion, and it wastes time for people to be answering questions to two different threads on the (more or less) same subject without knowing the whole story.
Trying to detect "something" coming into the ethernet port is too vague of a question. Any computer connected to a network will always have something coming into the ethernet port. I doubt very much whether you want to be analyzing every single packet that comes in to determine that you've had a file uploaded. Unless the other computer can send you a message I would suggest simply monitoring the directory to look for changes in the list of files like I suggested. In Windows there's an API function that you can hook into that will provide notification of a file system change. There may be something like that for a Mac, but I ain't got a Mac so I can't say what that is.

You need a "bulk renamer" to do this.
I personally use ABetterFinderRename, but there are cheaper and some that are free. ABFR has a free trial.
Renamer4Mac is cheap. Check the App Store too.

Best Way for login???

I was just wondering what everyone thought would be the best
way for a secure login with 4 different access levels. It's going
to do just how it sounds, different levels see/have different
access to different functions and components in the program. Would
an initial php login work? Would it be difficult to implement it

Then you create a loginResultHandler that first checks to see
if the user is logged in. If the user is logged you then check for
their access level. Personally I used digits (in my example roles 1
through 6). The digit is what I store in my database. Once the

2005. It took my two weeks to set up my CFC's (ColdFusion
Components) and ActionScript files properly.
My user login form is authenticated against my database. If

In AS3 you can use the bracket notation...

AS2 supports the eval() function, but it was done away with in AS3

IF you do find a backup that has your contacts; I'd /highly/ recommand turning off your wifi network after the restore is finished because if the issue is with your iCloud your contacts may merge back with her's.
With iCloud you DO NOT want to share the account; bad things happen Evil evil thigns...
But in all seriousness; if two devices have the same iCloud; iCloud is told to merge and sync infomation between hte two and can't tell that it doesn't belong to the same person

What is the best way to export and import updates between WSUS servers for specific KB's with environments that have different data sets?

We are under strict regulations and monitoring at my company. Because of this, we have to define what updates are being installed during a patch cycle by KB Article. Two production networks and one test network. The installed updates have to be the exact
same in the test environment, run for a few days with no problems, and then we install them in our production networks. The issue is, not all of the software in the environments is identical.
I need to figure out a way to take failed/needed updates from production that are unapproved, export that list so I can approve all of those updates in the test env.. Then once I approve those and any other needed updates in test, I need to be able to export
all approved updates from the test env (which includes the needed ones from production) and import those approvals in production.
How can this be done?
