A Webservice and  a Standalone Java Program Integration

Hi!
I need a JAX-WS webservice that would invoke methods of a standalone java program .
Is it possible to implement it?
Is there a better way than communication with the standalone java program through RMI?
Thanks!

  • Coherence Help standalone java program put data in cache & Servlet to Read

    Hi,
    I have coherence 3.4 and using Oracle Application Server 10.1.3 We are in the process of developing a Web Application and want to use Coherence for caching the data. My Coherence is also installed on the same box as Oracle Application Server 10.1.3 need some help in storing the data in the coherence and reading it through the servlet. We have standalone java program that needs to put data in the cache and through servlet want to read that and display it on the page. When running the client the data is stored in the cache but when reading it through the servlet it returns null. We have included both coherence.jar and tangosol.jar in the war file and also in the path when running the standalone java program. Started the Coherence using the below command:
    C:\oracle\coherence\lib>java -cp coherence.jar -Dtangosol.coherence.cacheconfig=C:/oracle/coherence/tests/cache-config.xml com.tangosol.net.DefaultCacheServer
    here is the sample config file used when starting the server above:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE cache-config SYSTEM "cache-config.dtd">
    <cache-config>
        <caching-scheme-mapping>
            <cache-mapping>
                <cache-name>VirtualCache</cache-name>
                <scheme-name>default-distributed</scheme-name>
            </cache-mapping>
        </caching-scheme-mapping>
        <caching-schemes>
            <!--
            Default Distributed caching scheme.
            -->
            <distributed-scheme>
                <scheme-name>default-distributed</scheme-name>
                <service-name>DistributedCache</service-name>
                <backing-map-scheme>
                    <class-scheme>
                        <scheme-ref>default-backing-map</scheme-ref>
                    </class-scheme>
                </backing-map-scheme>
            </distributed-scheme>
      <class-scheme>
                <scheme-name>default-backing-map</scheme-name>
                <class-name>com.tangosol.util.SafeHashMap</class-name>
                </class-scheme>
    </caching-schemes>
    </cache-config>And here is the standalone java program to put the data in the cache:
    import com.tangosol.net.CacheFactory;
    import com.tangosol.net.NamedCache;
    public class PutCache {
        public PutCache() {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            PutCache putCache = new PutCache();
            NamedCache         cache = CacheFactory.getCache("VirtualCache");
            String key = "hello";
            cache.put(key, "Hello Cache123123");
    }And here is the Servlet code to read the data but it somehow returns null
    import com.tangosol.net.CacheFactory;
    import com.tangosol.net.NamedCache;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import java.io.PrintWriter;
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    public class Servlet1 extends HttpServlet {
        private static final String CONTENT_TYPE = "text/html; charset=windows-1252";
        public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException {
            super.init(config);
        public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request,
                          HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException {response.setContentType(CONTENT_TYPE);
            PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
            NamedCache         cache = CacheFactory.getCache("VirtualCache");
            String value = (String)cache.get("hello");
            out.println("<html>");
            out.println("<head><title>Servlet1</title></head>");
            out.println("<body>");
            out.println("<p>The servlet has received a GET. This is the reply.</p>"+value);
            out.println("</body></html>");
            out.close();
    }Is there any other configuration I need. Any help is really appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    While starting the coherence using
    C:\oracle\coherence\lib>java -cp coherence.jar -Dtangosol.coherence.cacheconfig=C:/oracle/coherence/tests/cache-config.xml com.tangosol.net.DefaultCacheServer
    while running standaone jave program using the below command
    java -Dtangosol.coherence.cacheconfig=C:/oracle/coherence/tests/cache-config.xml Populatecache
    In the Web Application don't have any reference to cache-config.xml just using the coherence.jar & tangosol.jar.
    What are the steps or configurations I need in order to connect to the same Coherence Cache. Do I need to provide some host:port for the Coherence for storing the data in the cache. How does the java client program and Web Application knows to connect to the Coherence. As currently even if I don't start the coherence server and just run the java standalone program it goes and executes fine wondering wher exactly does it persists the cache if coherence itself is not started or just adding the jars is enough. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

  • How to compile and run a java program?

    I am getting this error message, what to do?
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
    Thanks for you help.
    Ajay

    Hello,
    I believe that this error is caused because when you
    compile and run a java program, you have to use the
    same name that is next to public class. For example,
    the program name is next to the word public class.
    For example, if a program began like this:
    public class Concat
    then the name of the program in this case is Concat
    and when you compile it you type: javac Concat.java
    when you run it type: java Concat
    depending on the name of your program.and depending on whether the class is in a package. And depending on what directory you are currently in.
    Also depending on if you set your class path you might
    have to type the above like this: jdk1.2.1\bin\javac
    Concat.java to compile, and to run you would have to
    type jdk1.2.1\bin\java Concat where you would replace
    Concat with the name of your program and replace
    jdk1.2.1 with the name of your version of java, that
    is again if you do not have your classpath set. Hope
    this helps.Your examples have nothing to do with whether the CLASSPATH is set--only with whether the PATH is set. And, it may not be jdkXXX\bin. The path to the JDK (in this case, to javac and java executables) could be anything. Classpath should be set on the command line. The OP probably did NOT set a classpath on the command line (preferred), or in the environment variables.
    Also, make sure you did not forget to put:
    public static void main(String[ ] args)
    on the line underneath the line where it says "public
    class Concat" where Concat is the name of your
    program. Again, I hope this helps.Irrelevant (with the info we have from the OP so far). The error says that the JVM can't even find the class--not that the class doesn't have a main. The "main" referred to in the error message is within the JVM itself.
    OP: Did you fix your problem? If not, what directory are your files in? Are they in a package? What command are you typing to get that error? That is, please tell us your entire command line.

  • ADF BC from standalone java program

    Hi,

    Hi warnerja,
    Thanks for your response.
    Actually, I too had used the tools with Weblogic. But
    in that case, we had used weblogic.jar which provides
    the client side classes. So, I was wondering if there
    is any similar thing.
    Once again, thanx for your response.
    regards,
    shivramanSure, other tools come with other jars. For instance, that Java Webservice toolkit that I sent you the link of, must come with classes that do similar things to what is provided by Weblogic classes, to consume web services.

  • Communication between servlet(client behavior) and stand alone java program

    Hello all:
    I need to send a message (ascii characters sequence) from a servlet to a java program, but I'm not sure what is the best way to get it: socket, JMS or other mechanism that I don't know.
    Is the servlet who is operating how client behavior.
    Please, any comment will be appreciated, regards,
    Ulises.

    You can always start a ServerSocket on the client (kinda sounds funny, doesn't it) which will accept connections. You then open a plain old Socket on the server to connect to the client's listener. (Note, this is the reverse of a normal set-up). Once you have the connection established, you will call getOutputStream() to get a stream to write to. Likewise, you will call getInputStream() to read the data sent. You will want to investigate the java.net.* and java.io.* libraries.

    Also please let me know about how to connect internet through proxy server.As I said above, if you are using the Apache HTTP client, no we can't, as this is not an Apache forum. I also told you where to find that answer.
    If on the other hand you don't want to use that client any more, setting the system properties http.proxyHost and http.proxyPort will do it for java.net.HttpURLConnection. See the Java Custom Networking tutorial for examples.

  • How to terminate and restart a java program from a controling java program?

    I have a situation where my program needs to run exactly once each one
    hour. This is a huge program that creates a lot of threads and opens
    lot of resources. After one hour has lapsed, I want to terminate this
    program (as if Exit(0) was performed on it or as if Ctrl C was pressed
    from the command line to terminate a running program) and then run it again and so on repeat the cycle each hour. This will guarantee that
    all the resouces taken by the programs are freed or if some threads were still blocked on i/o, are indeed terminated each hour.
    The java program does not have any user interface and it is run from the
    command line.

    if you can change the program to be controlled, you could make it listen for commands on some networkport for shutting it down.
    If this is not an option you could start OS programs to kill the first program. On Unix System kill will do, but you need the process id so you'd need another os call ...
    You could do the os calls in two ways
    a) execute shell commands (search the forum on how to do that
    b) write a little C wrapper for the os call so you can call them from JNI (Java Native Interface)
    I do not know of any way do this kind of thing directly

  • Stop and run a java program

    how can I stop then run a java program in java code?

    netcom_ wrote:
    You can do this from the command shell.I want to stop running the program by System.exit()Which will return a status code to the shell that launched your java app.
    then I would run the program lets say by command shell(in java),Huh?
    After your java app calls System.exit() you are back in the shell that launched the java app.
    The problem that all the code after the instruction
    System.exit is ignored so the command shell is not treated ,is there a solution,?You can use a shell script and use a loop.

    What am I supposed to do in order to execute the program?
    Thanks in advance!

    Well,following your advice I did :
    user@owner ~/Java/jdk1.5.0_05

    bash: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'
    Then(without < >):
    user@owner ~/Java/jdk1.5.0_05

    Then :
    user@owner ~/Java/jdk1.5.0_05
    $ echo "PATH=$PATH:~/jdk1.5.0_05/bin" >> $HOME/.bashrc
    It accepted it.
    Then:
    user@owner ~/Java/jdk1.5.0_05
    $ javac HelloWorldApp.java
    bash: javac: command not found
    user@owner ~/Java/jdk1.5.0_05

    Unfortunately the same result.
    Could you please tell me what else I have to do in order to compile it and run it?
