ABAP Objec Oriented t vs. SAP TechEd
My boss gives me green light to go training this year. I have a mix feeling between ABAP OO class and SAP TechEd. Anyone see which one is more advantage?
I am a developer and most often, I write code use old traditional way, function group, FM etc. I seldom get into ABAP Object using class, method etc... only sometimes I want to use SAP provided method like sending email, read, view, create or attach document etc...
I do not know JAVA, so the idea of class will be new to me. None of my co-worker use ABAP object and they keep saying that they do not need it. But when you get into debug SAP code you run into OO programming all the time. I hate the idea of going to training and do not use it just like the course BAPI, EDI I went last year and I already forgot.
Thanks for your input.
First, let me start by saying that the importance of ABAP Objects(OO concepts) will be increasing moving foward. You can see this in newer transaction in R/3, like the enjoy transactions. Also, you may notice that Web Dynpro ABAP components are entirely built on the OO concepts. Also, other new technologies have been implemented using OO concepts, like persistant objects, and shared memory objects. So if you are not using OO now, you should definintly start getting comfortable with it. I have taken the course that you mentioned, and I have to say, while it is very informitive and does cover the basic concepts, you could certainly learn the same by simply going thru the help.
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/ce/b518b6513611d194a50000e8353423/frameset.htm
If I had my choice between any SAP course, or attending TechEd, I would certainly choose TechEd. Why? Because instead of covering one particular aspect of SAP, you can attend different sessions covering a much wider scope. So you can learn about Web Dynpro ABAP in one session, and then go to another session covering Web Services. Or maybe even skip over to a BI related session in the afternoon. You can see what I getting at here. Also, the networking opportunities at TechEd are excellent, there will be a lot of diverse people there willing to share experiences and knowledge with you.
Hope this helps.

SAP Tech e.g. ABAP for people with non IT Background
My current position: I am a BA graduate. Working in BPO for years though i never want. I know multimedia works in ADOBE softwares like motion picture editing, compositing & designing etc. That was a hobby but couldn't turn that into a career because of very limited scopes and less salary.
My current aim: Now planning to make my career in SAP tech like ABAP as i m interested more into developing, programming works. After a lot of search, I atleast got to know that career is good into SAP ABAP (if I am not wrong).
My query: Can I do SAP tech like ABAP and make a career as I have no IT background. If ther is any course prerequisite to be done like programming/ coding etc. before doing a SAP ABAP module. Please let me know. I'd be thankful for any detailed reply or beginning steps.
Please help me make my career....
Regards,
BryanDeveloper jobs always look glamorous and attractive, specially for the non-developers. Anyone who wants to be a ABAP developer should have to make a wise and informed decision to avoid dissapointment.
Here you have to keep in mind two things
1) Firstly will you be able to master the subject
2) Second how practical is it to get a job, after learning abap.
I feel that if someone has not gone through any kind of programming syntax & pl/sql programming earlier in their career, its going to be a pretty tough thing to be good at abap.
This is totally subjective question <and we dont know much of ure background>, its better u discuss it with some ABAP consultants face to face.
Hope it helps.

Which combination has best flavour M.Tech+SAP ABAP/BI Or else MBA+SAP ?

Message was edited by: kishan PHi Tejas,
please understand one thing every technology requires its domain knowledge, when you are looking for abap side i don't think M.Tech will serve any purpose for it (yes it will gives you an exposure that you have masters degree), because being in sap abap primarly requires basic coding skills, understanding its syntax and semantics, so being a B.Tech is enough.
When it comes to MBA + SAP, yes being an MBA you will be recognised as a domain knowledgable person in industry sector and hence you will get more exposure in it, so the option of MBA + SAP functional side is justificabe, but when it comes to choose a better option in between two, no one can decide it for you , because you know yourself better than anybody else, we just provide the information regarding anything, but its you who can judge yourself better.
So if you are crazy towards innovation, and coding is your passion you can opt for abap side, but if you don't like coding go to MBA + SAP functional side. -

Edited by: NCodleanu on Sep 24, 2011 11:43 AMHi,
You can opt for Associate or Professional level certifications based on the eligibility criteria.
http://www.sap.com/services/education/certification/teched_2010_bangalore/index.epx
http://www.sap.com/services/education/certification/teched_2010_bangalore_schedule/index.epx
Usually Associate level requires 3-5 years of experience in the area of certification(in your case ABAP)
Professional level requires more than 5 years
For Teched2010, we also have Associate level for ABAP certification.
Hope this helps.

Pass percentage for ABAP Associate Certification in SAP TechED
Hi All,
May i know what is the pass percentage for ABAP Associate Certification in SAP TechED.
Thanks in Advance,
Ravi PHi Ravikumar P,
I dont know about Teched but, SAP Education Channel Partner arranges for training - online or instructor-led - on certain amount of fees. Their schedules can be checked from official website of SAP.
For your ready reference, here it is --
Link: http://www.sap.com/asia/services/education/schedule/schedule_IN.htm
For fees and relevant short info, this page is sufficient.
Now, for your second part of the question, the passing percentage has been substantially reduced to 53 % in ABAP. But, the catch is -- partial marking has been eliminated.
This means, if one question has several sub-questions, you have to answer all of them right to get the marks allocated for that one question. If any of the answer to sub-questions gone wrong, whole of the marks assigned with that question will not be given to you.
Ex - Lets say, one question is
1) What is applicable in Job Application --
i) When you are asked to apply online, you should --
a) Contact personally
b) Ring them up
c) Mail your Credentials
ii) When called for interview, you should not --
a) Reach there in time
b) Behave sober
c) Break the rules altogether
Suppose, 160 marks are there for 80 questions and this one is one out of those. Therefore, this one should fetch you, if done correctly ( Bold choice here ), 2 marks.
But, suppose, you made wrong choice in either of two sub-questions as (a) or (b). None of the marks would be given to you. Even if you made one answer right.
Hope this would be good enough. Need even more info, you should contact any of the Education Channel Partner of SAP.
Thanks.

Virtual SAP Teched Lecture ABAP
Hi all,
Could anybody tell me what was the name of last weeks Virtual SAP Teched Lecture of the week and the lectuarer's name? It was about new enhancement in ABAP including demos.
Could you tell me where can I download it from?
It was online yesterday and now the link is pointing to a another free Operate and Manage SAP Systems on Virtual Server Technology lecture.
Thanks in advance,
KrisztiáHi again -
Yes, SAP TechEd '07 Las Vegas and Munich registrants who purchased full-conference registration receive complimentary access to the <i><b>entire</b></i> Virtual SAP TechEd '07 program, not just the five free sessions.
Virtual SAP TechEd '07 resides on the Content Subscriptions webpage at https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/subscriptions/content.
Use the same e-mail address to log in to SDN that you used when registering for the conference.
If you still do not see the complete Virtual SAP TechEd '07 offering on the Content Subscriptions webpage, it may be that the e-mail address you used to register for SAP TechEd 07 does not match the e-mail address associated with your SDN or BPX account.
To validate your SAP TechEd '07 registration and gain access to Virtual SAP TechEd '07, please send an email to the respective SAP TechEd Conference Team:

Doubt in sap teched -mdm 250exercise - step 5 ( page 5 in the document)
hi
i am preparing for mdm 250 _ exercise of the sap teched mdm document , where in step 5 its shown that , we can either upload the ports and check tables data or we can mainintain manually . its told that , the easy way is to upload the ports and check tables data by using the tab "upload ports and check tables " ,
so now my doubt is if i want to upload that ports and check tables data using that particular tab , where do i get that text file .
in the teched the document used was -
"MDMGX_BuPa.txt"
please help , how can i get this file to upload ....
thanks in advanceHi Akhil,
that txt file contains the code.it is like a repot which we create by abap code.
I think but not sure that this file you have to create your own to your specific ports by taking help of any standard report file then you can upload this file by using the option.
other wise go for the option as "Maintain ports and check table", there you can create manually and it is very easy to do insteed of making a abap report.
you can define your own object and in that perticulat object you can create your own ports according to your requirement and then generate the XSD for perticular object and the same you can use in your repository while creating ports.
I hope this will help you.

Hello everyone,
I couldn't make it to SAP Teched Bangalore for the last 2 years because of some project issues.
I am not going to miss the chance this time. Hope to meet you there and have some fun.
Regards,
Gautham.I also have attended few sessions of HANA and they are really good.
Especially developing business applications using HANA studio.
ABAP in Eclipse is one more session which really attracted me.
Looking forward to be part of these new technologies.
Only thing i felt sad is that i couldn't meet anyone from SCN(SDN) because of this busy schedule.
@Mariyln: I saw you on the last day of Teched but couldn't meet as you are busy in an interview session.
Regards,
Gautham. -
Hi All,
This is the First Teched I attended in Banagalore .
I thought of sharing my experiences OF FIRST DAY here
Wow what a session's fantastic lectures.
Initially My day started with rush to catch the public transport in Bangalore to reach the Far Far SAP. But I thought a huge crowd to collect the passes to enter inside. But luckily SAP has Manage so well that for each alphabet one special counter.
We just entered and it started with some traditional Song later followed lecture by SAP BG HEADS.
and The INDIAN SAP BIG head announced some Special (tool or module )has been launched by SAP I thought a boring sesson started
But when the Live demo placed for the same..amazing tool 'SAP HANA' launched which works Super sonic speed which is going to change all SAP architecture...even.
I meet Craig , maryln, Raja and few other mentors...:) (Although Criag Doenst know whom I am )
and after the session we have couple of useful hands on and lectures followed by DEMO JAM anchored by our SCN SAP STAR Craig.....
This Demo Jam is something special that 6 participants will give 6 minutes of time. Each participant need to present their Demo on special tool developed by them in 6 mintues and Who ever recieves the best compliments wins that night...
All 6 are super unfortunately they can select only one
and Followed by SAP Special Party....
Unlimited Drinks , Varities of food and Music campgain...Just like the College days...
Wonderful atmosphere, Great People combination...Amazing Experience only I can say....
Defintely atleast once in life we need to attend.Stay Tuned.
Regards
sasHi sas,
Nice to hear from you. I am not at TechEd Bangalore, so thanks for telling your stories and first impressions. I've been following tweets mostly since the event started, but maybe you'll become my "official reporter" now?
As I was reading your post, I was thinking... Wow, this is a passionate description (food... yummy!), this belongs in a blog. I see you've never blogged on SCN but isn't it the right time to start? Tell us your impressions as a first time attendee in Bangalore, say who you met with (Craig, Marilyn, etc), what sessions you attended and what you learned. If you can, snap a few pictures and put them in your blog, etc. etc. That could be fun.
If you want to know what others wrote about their TechEd experience, go search for the [blog category "SAP TechEd"|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/sdnweblogs/topics].
If you don't know how to get started, go to the [How to Contribute page|ABAP Frequently Asked Questions] or even easier, go visit the Community Clubhouse on the show floor. Marilyn and others (Rashmi Manda is another contact) will be there and can show you how to blog. You can also start with a wiki entry and participate in our daily drawing at the event.
Looking forward to hearing how it goes Keep us tuned!
