ABAP select statements takes too long

Hi,
I have a select statement as shown below.
SELECT * FROM BSEG INTO TABLE ITAB_BSEG
                     WHERE  BUKRS = CO_CODE
                     AND    BELNR IN W_DOCNO
                     AND    GJAHR = THISYEAR
                     AND    AUGBL NE SPACE.
This select statement runs fine in all of R/3 systems except for 1. The problem that is shown with this particular system is that the query takes very long ( up to an hour for if W_DOCNO consists of 5 entries). Sometimes, before the query can complete, an ABAP runtime error is encountered as shown below:
<b>Database error text........: "ORA-01555: snapshot too old: rollback segment
number 7 with name "PRS_5" too small?"
Internal call code.........: "[RSQL/FTCH/BSEG ]"
Please check the entries in the system log (Transaction SM21).  </b>
Please help me on this issue. However, do not give me suggestions about selecting from a smaller table (bsik, bsak) as my situation does not permit it.
I will reward points.

dont use select * ....
instead u declare ur itab with the required fields and then in select refer to the fields in the select .
data : begin of itab,
         f1
         f2
         f3
         f4
         end of itab.
select f1 f2 f3 f4 ..
     into table itab
from bseg where ...
. this improves the performance .
select * is not advised .

  • Update statement takes too long to run

    Hello,
I am running this simple update statement, but it takes too long to run. It was running for 16 hours and then I cancelled it. It was not even finished. The destination table that I am updating has 2.6 million records, but I am only updating 206K records. If add ROWNUM <20 to the update statement works just fine and updates the right column with the right information. Do you have any ideas what could be wrong in my update statement? I am also using a DB link since CAP.ESS_LOOKUP table resides in different db from the destination table. We are running 11g Oracle Db.
    UPDATE DEV_OCS.DOCMETA IPM
    SET IPM.XIPM_APP_2_17 = (SELECT DISTINCT LKP.DOC_STATUS
    FROM [email protected] LKP
    WHERE LKP.DOC_NUM = IPM.XIPM_APP_2_1 AND
    IPM.XIPMSYS_APP_ID = 2
    WHERE
    IPM.XIPMSYS_APP_ID = 2;
    Thanks,

In the first SQL, the SELECT against the remote table was a correlated subquery. the 'WHERE LKP.DOC_NUM = IPM.XIPM_APP_2_1 AND IPM.XIPMSYS_APP_ID = 2" means that the subquery had to run once for each row of DEV_OCS.DOCMETA being evaluated. This might have meant thousands of iterations, meaning a great deal of network traffic (not to mention each performing a DISTINCT operation). Queries where the data is split between two or more databases are much more expensive than queries using only tables in a single database.Sorry to disappoint you again, but with clause by itself doesn't prevent from "subquery had to run once for each row of DEV_OCS.DOCMETA being evaluated". For example:

As you can see, WITH clause by itself guaranties nothing. We must force optimizer to materialize it:
    {code}
    SQL> explain plan for

  • Select statement takes very long to run with order by clause.

    Hi all,
I have a select statement which when I run without the order by clause takes arround 2 minutes to run. But with the order by clause it goes on for ever. I am trying to access the database server through a network which is not too fast.
The select statement is based on 9 views which are again based on some views. It also has inline views and outer joins. These views and inline views can not be done away with.
When selected without the order by clause it gives 3215 records.
Anything like 2 to 3 minutes will be Ok.
    Thanks.

  • SELECT statement takes long time

    Hi All,
In the following code, if the T_QMIH-EQUNR contains blank or space values ,SELECT statement takes longer time to acess the data from OBJK table. If it T_QMIH-EQUNR contains values other than blank, performance is good and it fetches data very fast.
Already we have indexes for EQUNR in OBJK table.
Only for blank entries , it takes much time. Can anybody tell why it behaves for balnk entries?
    if not T_QMIH[] IS INITIAL.
            SORT T_QMIH BY EQUNR.
            REFRESH T_OBJK.
            SELECT EQUNR OBKNR
              FROM OBJK INTO TABLE T_OBJK
              FOR ALL ENTRIES IN T_QMIH
              WHERE OBJK~TASER = 'SER01' AND
             OBJK~EQUNR = T_QMIH-EQUNR.
    Thanks
    Ajay

    Hi
You can use the field QMIH-QMNUM with OBJK-IHNUM
in QMIH table, EQUNR is not primary key, it will have multiple entries
so to improve the performance use one dummy internal table for QMIH  and sort it on EQUNR
delete adjacent duplicates from d_qmih and use the same in for all entries
    this will improve the performance.
Also use the fields in sequence of the index and primary keys also in select
    if not T_QMIH[] IS INITIAL.
    SORT T_QMIH BY EQUNR.
    REFRESH T_OBJK.
    SELECT EQUNR OBKNR
    FROM OBJK INTO TABLE T_OBJK
    FOR ALL ENTRIES IN T_QMIH
    WHERE  IHNUM =  T_QMIH-QMNUM
    OBJK~TASER = 'SER01' AND
    OBJK~EQUNR = T_QMIH-EQUNR.
try this and let me know
    regards

  • Accessing BKPF table takes too long

    Hi,
Is there another way to have a faster and more optimized sql query that will access the table BKPF? Or other smaller tables that contain the same data?
    I'm using this:
select bukrs gjahr belnr budat blart
into corresponding fields of table i_bkpf
       from bkpf
       where bukrs eq pa_bukrs
       and gjahr eq pa_gjahr
       and blart in so_DocTypes
       and monat in so_monat.
The report is taking too long and is eating up a lot of resources.
Any helpful advice is highly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi max,
I also tried using BUDAT in the where clause of my sql statement, but even that takes too long.
select bukrs gjahr belnr budat blart monat
appending corresponding fields of table i_bkpf
         from bkpf
         where bukrs eq pa_bukrs
         and gjahr eq pa_gjahr
         and blart in so_DocTypes
         and budat in so_budat.
I also tried accessing the table per day, but it didn't worked too...
       while so_budat-low le so_budat-high.
select bukrs gjahr belnr budat blart monat
appending corresponding fields of table i_bkpf
         from bkpf
         where bukrs eq pa_bukrs
         and gjahr eq pa_gjahr
         and blart in so_DocTypes
         and budat eq so_budat-low.
         so_budat-low = so_budat-low + 1.
       endwhile.
I think our BKPF tables contains a very large set of data. Is there any other table besides BKPF where we could get all accounting document numbers in a given period?

Why are you doing this?  It's a completely unnecessary subquery.
    Just do this:
    where account_identifier = first_bundle.account_identifier
Same for all your other FROM DUAL subqueries.  Get rid of them.
More importantly, don't use a cursor for loop.  Just write one big INSERT statement that does what you want.

What could be the reason for update statement to execute so long? You haven't said what "too long" means, but a simple reason could be that the scalar subquery on "s_postn" is using a full table scan for each execution. Potentially this subquery gets executed for each row of the "ops_forecast_extract" table that satisfies your filter predicates. "Potentially" because of the cunning "filter/subquery optimization" of the Oracle runtime engine that attempts to cache the results of already executed instances of the subquery. Since the in-memory hash table that holds these cached results is of limited size, the optimization algorithm depends on the sort order of the data and could suffer from hash collisions it's unpredictable how well this optimization works in your particular case.
You might want to check the execution plan, it should tell you at least how Oracle is going to execute the scalar subquery (it doesn't tell you anything about this "filter/subquery optimization" feature).
Generic instructions how to generate a useful explain plan output and how to post it here follow:
Could you please post an properly formatted explain plan output using DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY including the "Predicate Information" section below the plan to provide more details regarding your statement. Please use the {noformat}[{noformat}code{noformat}]{noformat} tag before and {noformat}[{noformat}/code{noformat}]{noformat} tag after or the {noformat}{{noformat}code{noformat}}{noformat} tag before and after to enhance readability of the output provided:
    In SQL*Plus:
    SET LINESIZE 130
    EXPLAIN PLAN FOR <your statement>;
SELECT * FROM TABLE(DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY);Note that the package DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY is only available from 9i on.
In 9i and above, if the "Predicate Information" section is missing from the DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY output but you get instead the message "Plan table is old version" then you need to re-create your plan table using the server side script "$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlxplan.sql".
In previous versions you could run the following in SQL*Plus (on the server) instead:
    @?/rdbms/admin/utlxplsA different approach in SQL*Plus:
    SET AUTOTRACE ON EXPLAIN
<run your statement>;will also show the execution plan.
In order to get a better understanding where your statement spends the time you might want to turn on SQL trace as described here:
When your query takes too long ...
and post the "tkprof" output here, too.

Almost certainly none of the above!  Try each of the following in this order:
Select 'Reset Safari' from the Safari menu.
Close down Safari;  move <home>/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db to the trash; restart Safari.
Change the DNS servers in your network settings to use the OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

  • Web application deployment takes too long?

    Hi All,
We have a wls 10.3.5 clustering environment with one admin server and two managered servers separately. When we try to deploy a sizable web application, it takes about 1 hour to finish. It seems that it takes too long to finish the deployment. Here is the output from one of two managerd server system log. Could anyone tell me it is normal or not? If not, how can I improve this?
    Thanks in advance,
    John

    Hi John,
There may be some circumstances like when there are many files in the WEB-INF folder and JPS don't use TLD.
I don't think a 1hour deployment is normal, it should be much more faster.
Since you are using 10.3.5, I suggesto you to install the corresponding patch:
    1. Download patch 10118941p10118941_1035_Generic.zip
    2. Uncompress the file p10118941_1035_Generic.zip
    3. Copy the required files (patch-catalog_XXXXX.xml, CIRF.jar ) to the Patch Download Directory (typically, this folder is <WEBLOGIC_HOME>/utils/bsu/cache_dir).
    4. Rename the file patch-catalog_XXXXX.xml into patch-catalog.xml .
    5. Start Smart Update from <WEBLOGIC_HOME>/utils/bsu/bsu.sh .
    6. Select "Work Offline" mode.
    7. Go to File->Preferences, and select "Patch Download Directory".
    8. Click "Manage Patches" on the right panel.
    9. You will see the patch in the panel below (Downloaded Patches)
    10. Click "Apply button" of the downloaded patch to apply it to the target installation and follow the instructions on the screen.
    11. Add "-Dweblogic.jsp.ignoreTLDsProcessingInWebApp=true" to the Java options to ignore additional findTLDs cost.
    12. Restart servers.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Cris

  • RPURMP00 program takes too long

    Hi Guys,
Need some help on this one guys. Not getting any where with this issue.
I am running RPURMP00 ( Program to  Create Third-Party Remittance Posting Run ) and while running it in test mode for 1 employee it takes too long .
I ran this in background during off hours , but it takes 19,000 + sec to run and then cancels .
The long text message is “No entry in table T51R6_FUNDINFO (Remittance detail table for all entities) for key 0002485844 “   and     “Job cancelled after system exception ERROR_MESSAGE”
I check the program and I found a nested loop within the program (include RPURMP02 ) and decided to debug it with a break point.
It short dumped and here is the st22 message and source code extract.

  • AME CS6 rendering with AE and Pr takes too long

    Hi Guys,
Need some help here. i have rendered a 30 secs mp4 video with 1920 x 1080 HD format 25 frames w/o scripting in AME for 4 hours!
Why does it take too long? I have rendered a 2 minute video with same format w/ scripting but only spare less than 30 minutes for rendering.
Im using After Effects and Premium Pro both CS6 and using Dynamic Link in AME.
What seems to be wrong in my current settings?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

This may be a waste of time, but it won't take a minute and is something you should always do whenever things go strangely wrong  ............ trash the preferences, assuming you haven't done it already.
Many weird things happen as a result of corrupt preferences which can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that only  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.
There is absolutely no danger in trashing preferences and you can do it as often as you like.
The preferences are kept separately from FCP X and if there aren't any when FCP X opens it automatically creates new ones  .  .  .  instantly.

  • Sql Query takes too long to enter into the first line

    Hi Friends,
I am using SQLServer 2008. I am running the query for fetching the data from database. when i am running first time after executed the "DBCC FREEPROCCACHE" query for clear cache memory, it takes too long (7 to 9 second) to enter into first
line of the stored procedure. After its enter into the first statement of the SP, its fetching the data within a second. I think there is no problem with Sqlquery.  Kindly let me know if you know the reason behind this.
    Sample Example:
    Create Sp Sp_Name
    as
     Begin
     print Getdate()
      Sql statements for fetching datas
     Print Getdate()
     End
In the above example, there is no difference between first date and second date.
Please help me to trouble shooting this problem.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Rajkumar.R

i am running first time after executed the "DBCC FREEPROCCACHE" query for clear cache memory, it takes too long (7 to 9 second)
    Additional to Manoj: A
DBCC FREEPROCCACHE clears the procedure cache, so all store procedure must be newly compilied on the first call.
