  • How many Licenses of Acrobat Professional do I need for Adobe LC PDF Generator

    Hi,
At our customer site we have purchased 6 licenses of Adobe LiveCycle PDF Generator and have recieved a license file with the keys for Adobe LiveCycle PDF Generator and Adobe Acrobat Professional. We bought the license from a reseller of the product. We understand that the Adobe LiveCycle PDF Generator is a server based software and needs 1 license per CPU. Each of our server (Dev, Val & Prod) have 2 CPU's so we have sufficient licenses (6). We are under the impression that this would suffice. How ever we are not sure on how many licenses we need for Acrobat Professional.
Here is a brief description of the way we would use Adobe LiveCycle PDF Generator. We are deploying a PLM system and one of the requirement is to render Word documents to PDF so we are using PDF Generator for this capability. On our Adobe servers we will install Microsoft Word, Acrobat Professional V9 Extended and the Adobe Livecycle PDF Generator. We will have around 150 users for the PLM system being deployed. The PLM system is a Web based system which means the PLM application server will be running on a Solaris server in our case. As part of the workflows in the PLM system, at the end of the workflow process, the PLM server would trigger a request to the Adobe server to convert the word document to PDF. The Adobe server processess the request and returns the PDF file that gets generated.
Based on the above usage of the system how many licenses of Acrobat Professional do we need? We will be installing Acrobat only on the server where we install the Livecycle PDF Generator. We had a call with our purchasing person today and she cautioned us that for Adobe Acrobat Professional we might need 1 license per user of the PLM system. She has asked us to check this with the Vendor of the product. Somehow I don't think it makes sense to purchase so many Acrobat Professional licenses even though we install only once.
So can someone tell me How does the licensing for Adobe Livecycle PDF Generator work? How many Acrobat Professional licenses we actually need? Is it based on the number of users in the system that is triggering the request? Appreciate your response on this.
    Regards,
    Ragha

You really should talk to your Adobe Sales Rep about this.  There are all kinds of special deals, licenses and such for customers using LiveCycle.  (For instance the license for PDFG may include Acrobat licenses for certain uses).

  • How to Enable Comments in Adobe Acrobat Professional?

    Hai Pals,
Am doing one desktop application for Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 in Java. Am in need to enable the comment option in Acrobat. I have idea to do this requirement through some other Third Party Scripts. Even i done that by script means, i want to do the interaction between the script and my application in JAVA. So, The better way i chosen was creating the entire application by JAVA. I have found some information by Google. There is some package to access the Adobe called adobe-utilities.jar. By using the package we can access the adobe application. Can someone guide me to develop my application module?

Thanks For your Response. I got some idea through Google. I think it's possible with adobe lifecycle. But i have'nt any idea about that. I have found that some JAR like adobe-utilities.jar,j2ee.jar has some facilities to do the existing operations with a JAVA code. Is there any other technology like Scripting, StartupScripts or etc.,..

  • Creating a document script for Clock in Acrobat Professional.

    Hi,
I am trying to add a field on my PDF form which shows a continuous clock.
I do not know how to add code to a document script in Acrobat Professional.
"Advaned/ Javascript/ Set Document Actions" is greyed out.
    Thanks in advance,
    Damo.

It sounds like you have Acrobat 9 or earlier?  And is this a LiveCycle form?
In therory, clock code is very simple. It just writes the formatted time to a text field. But the details depend on the type of form, LiveCycle or AcroForm

  • Image Editing in Acrobat Professional 8.1.2

I am running Acrobat 8.1.2 under XP Professional Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600.
I am trying to edit images in a file I downloaded from the web to reduce the file size. The images are ones that thumbnails on an earlier page access to show a larger sized image.
The images are slightly too long to fit on one page, so most of the image appears on page 1 and then the bottom portion on the top of page 2. There are text boxes separating the images.
Is there a simple way to edit these images to make them small enough to fit on a single page in Acrobat?
I managed to select each one and drag the corners to make them ~the same size and small enough for one page, but I cannot seem to move the bottom part so that I can merge it with the major part.
It is not clear to me if this is an artefact of the downloading process or not. Perhaps I could adjust some parameter so that the images all fit properly when downloaded?
I'll be glad to create a small, 2 page Acrobat file illustrating the problem. I don't see a way to post it here, though?
    Thanks for any insights.
    John

Thank you Bill and Aandi for your comments.
I see I should have said a bit more.
In Acrobat Professional 8, I used the menu path File>Create PDF>From Web Page. I specified that I wanted to drill down 2 levels.
That accomplished what I wanted. I captured the images and the linked images. I captured a whole lot more, but that was easy to delete in the Thumbnail View. I then deleted all the superfluous bookmarks and any unwanted text from the homepage. Now I have a PDF which is just under 10K and might pass muster for an email attachment. Clearly if I could condense the linked full size images to single pages, the file should become significantly smaller.
Perhaps it makes a difference, but my browser of choice is Mozilla SeaMonkey 1.1.9.
Acrobat 'does everything for you transparently' so it is not evident if it uses Mozilla, or if it uses its own software to open a web page and capture it. Does anyone reading this know more about the process?
    Thanks,
    John

  • In installation process of Acrobat Professional 7 , its showing that Adobe Pdf printer is not Installed...need help to install the software completely

In installation process of Acrobat Professional 7 , its showing that Adobe Pdf printer is not Installed...need help to install the software completely

If it is Win 7 or later, the Adobe PDF printer for AA 7 will not install and AcroTray will not function. You will have to install a PS driver from Adobe or maybe an HP color PS printer driver. Then edit the driver properties and change the name to Adobe PDF and the port to FILE. You will always have to do an extra step in creating PDFs by opening the file that is created in Distiller to get the PDF.
If you are talking about Win 8, you may not be successful at all. If you got Acrobat and Distiller to install, then there is a chance.

  • Roaming Profiles, FM9 and Acrobat Professional (9 and X) - Useful Info maybe to others

Just thought I would post this bit of information, which took me a long time to figure out and I still don't know why it happens.
    Basically
Using FM9 (although have FM10 installed but cannot convert at the moment...not to mention...sigh...that a distributor sold that to us knowing that FM11 was about to be released!!!!!!!!!)
    Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit
Recently upgraded to Acrobat Professional X (although the same problem happened with Acrobat Pro 9).
Could not get FM to publish to PDF (that is, print to PDF). I could distill, but then I did not get the bookmarks I needed (I tried to find an easy answer to that question, but that was a dead end involving programming).
I have spent too much time on this issue
A while ago, I found that by disabling a roaming profile, or deleting the files in the Adobe folder in a roaming profile, seems to fix whatever problem the PDF printer was having generating a PDF.
Thought I would pass that on in case someone else find it useful.

    Amanda,
As Van says, yes you can have both seleced at the same time. I suspect there are other issues on your machine that are creating your problems. FWIW, I too have been running FM9 on a win7 64-bit platform with no issues.
The Roaming Profile is used typicaly with remote logins across a WAN (wide area network), however, application specific gets stored there - depending upon the application. Since you've seemed to have resolved the issue by deleting (or disabling the profile, i.e. the apps won't look there) the Roaming profile folder, it sounds like there might have been something corrupt or erroneous in the Acrobat data folders. When you installed your FM versions, did you deselect the accompanying PDFcreator option? If not and you had an existing Acrobat installation, then some items would have been overwritten, creating some issues for you.

  • Acrobate professional and the 7.0.7 patch

I have set up the Acrobat Professional 7.0.0 upgrade install VIA the Install Tuner. We have managed to patch the Admin install to 7.0.5. When we try to run the 7.0.7 patch against the Admin install it starts and stops right away like something is wrong with the AcrobatUpd707_all_incr.exe patch file. Can anyone tell me if we are doing something wrong or is there in-fact something wrong with the 707 patch? We were successful in patching to 7.0.5 so we are following the same steps that worked with the 7.0.7 patch without any luck.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestion you might be able to offer.
    Ed Puariea

    Thanks for the file.
We were able to run the patch against the admin install and it worked thanks. Were kind of bummed now for two reason's. You know we have the Adobe Pro Upgrade install right? Well we can set up an admin install for the Adobe Pro Upgrade 7.0.0 and we can use that to install Adobe Pro without having our lic version of Adobe Std on the box. We can also patch that to 7.0.5 and it also does not need to have Adobe Std on the box. Kind of nice. Then after we up the admin install to 7.0.7 it is asking for Adobe Std to be installed. They must have fixed that in the 7.0.7 patch. No biggy I guess, we will have to live with that. But the second problem is we get an error when the Adobe Pro 7.0.7 tried to upgrade our Adobe Std 7.0.7 install. The error is "Internal Error 2602. File,Update_2.kfp" Do you know anything about the error? I have not had a chance to look into it as of yet.
Thanks for all your help Sir.

  • Acrobat Professional 7.0 not able to PDF documents

Acrobat Professional 7.0 was working fine, then I got a message to update to Acrobat 7.1. I clicked yes, it installed, I restarted, and now I can't PDF documents anymore.
The document opens a pop-up, "Missing PDFMaker files. Do you want to run the installer in repair mode?" immediately after I save the to-be-pdf'ed document. When I click "yes", It slowly runs the repair mode, then the computer shuts down and restarts. I go to PDF again, and I get the same "Missing PDFMaker files". I don't know what to do about this.

please delete me from your mailing list.  tks.

Yes! Thank you. I played around with it some and found that is the case, that I can PDF through the printer as well as bring the application up. I suppose it's just not install-able in full because it just cannot link up with Windows 7 in any capacity.
That's all the ability that I need at the present time. Nothing special, just whether it can or can't. Thanks!

  • Acrobat Professional 8 - How do you open XML sent from an online form?

    Hello,
    I have a simple question.
How does and end user with the latest Adobe Reader, open up XML data that was emailed to them from an online website form?
Is there a better way of going about this? For example, is it possible to create an online form through (Acrobat Professional and LiveCycle) that will allow the end user to save the PDF to their desktop (with the data nested in the fields) and then email off to the recipient of the form?
Thanks in advance for tips and suggestions.
    Regards,
    Jim

    Hello Aandi,
Yes, I now have the latest Adobe Reader and I believe there are add-ons that can be obtained, but I think you are right, there is no way to import the XML data from a form into the PDF using the Reader. But, I think there is a way to save the original PDF, so that the end user can now save the PDF locally (using the Reader) with data entered into the form. Then, the form can be emailed back to the originator. I think it has something to do with usage right settings in LiveCycle/Acrobat Professional.
Anyway, thanks for your reply. It is appreciated.

  • Acrobat Professional 8.1 interface problem with Internet Explorer

After upgrading to the latest version of Internet Explorer, I cannot open or download Adobe files from online sources.  The Adobe Acrobat program simply shuts down, and the following error message appears:  "A serious error has been detected and Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.0 cannot continue.  Please reinstall the application and try again."  When using Google Chrome as a browser, the Adobe program works as intended.  Any suggestions about how to remove this glitch from Internet Explorer?

The new version of IE was written years after the release of Acrobat Pro. You can try IE in compatibility mode to see if that helps. If not then either roll back to IE7 or right click to to a save as and open the file outside of IE.

  • Acrobat Professional 8.1.6 patch problem

I started with a fresh install of Mac OS X 10.5.8. Installed Acrobat Professional 8 from disk, then went through all 7 or so incremental updates (why no rollup install????). All went fine until the last patch, at which point I get the "Update failed" message - because the original application has been modified since it was originally installed.
I only installe the app about half an hour ago!! And the only changes that could have been made are by Adobe patches!
As for the suggestions at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407621.html, well the first one doesn't work, and the second is just idiotic. It's a brand new installation of everything!
    What to do?
    Thanks!

Sorry for the delay on getting this tested.
So I was able to go from a fresh install of Acrobat Pro v 8.0 to v 8.2.2 on a Mac.
I have Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.2) installed on an intel based machine.
My Mac version of Acrobat 8 is a download and not from a DVD.
Acrobat 8 has never been installed since reinstalling the OS on a new Hard Drive.
This is where I downloaded all the updates
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Macintosh
Since I have an English version of the software my main goal was to get the English friendly updates.
No updates were downloaded using the Acrobat Updater since this seems to cause issues with installing v8.1.6.
After installing each update Acrobat was launched and the About information was checked to confirm the update.
After installing the last update the Acrobat Updater was used to confirm all updates were applied.
All updates below installed without any errors.

  • Acrobat Professional 8.1.2 wants to update every day

Every time I start up my computer (an iMac running Leopard 10.5.4), I get a message saying that there is an update available for Acrobat Professional 8.1.2 (which came with CS3). I click on "update", it appears to install in the blink of an eye, and then the next day it all happens again - why?
I have installed all the relevant patches I could find on the Adobe website.
    Any ideas?

Hi.  Thanks for such a quick response.
I'm afraid I'm not sure what running Updater myself means, in that I thought I was doing that when I clicked on the Instal Now button, as in previous message.
HOWEVER, on checking my Adobe Utilities folder, in Applications>Utilities, I've just realised that I have TWO versions of Adobe Updater, namely 5 and 6.  On trying each successively, I've found that it was version 5 that was popping up instructing (sorry, inviting) me to upgrade to 8.1.5; version 6 just tells me "There are no updates available at this time".
Meanwhile, it had occurred to me that I had tried, some time ago, to download Adobe Reader 9, but that it hadn't worked.  I just tried to do this again.  It downloaded all right but, when I tried to open it, after I'd clicked on Agree (to the licence agreement) it announced that "An internal error occurred" and then crashed.
I don't know how this free (but unusable) downloaded Acrobat Reader 9 relates to my Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.4... or to either of my Adobe updaters.
There is no Plug-Ins folder in my Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional folder, and I can't find by name any of the plug-ins listed in Acrobat>About Adobe Plug-Ins... (I assume that these should be different from the plug-ins in the InDesign, Photoshop, Bridge etc. Plug-Ins folders.)  They must be somewhere, though, as Acrobat>Preferences apparently allows me to edit settings.  So I don't know if any of them are disabled or third party.
I'm afraid I'm reluctant to re-instal from the CS disk at the moment, for fear of finding myself unable to use either Photoshop or InDesign, with which I am desperate to finish a piece of work just now.  (I had a problem some years ago with an Adobe re-installation and spent a very long time trying to get codes form Adobe to get started again.)
I guess I'll just have to live with the jumping ikon for the time being.  Though perhaps I could throw away Updater5?

  • Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 Problem

I installed CS3 on my MacBook about a month ago. When I try to view something using Adobe Acrobat Professional, it comes up but then it goes away and a box says I need to open up at least one more Adobe program for it to work. Even if I try opening Photoshop or Illustrator or something, it still won't work. Any help would be appreciated!
