About app (whatsapp) backing up to icloud...
i haven't backuped to icloud since 8 weeks. when i go to icloud's manage storage on my phone it indiactes that whatsapp has about 60mb of data in the cloud in the 'Documents & Data' section. when i click on my device and see what the next backup would be, it indicates 497 mbs of data for whatsapp!
inside whatsapp the app's settings indicate that my chats have been backedup just yesterday. so i assume this 497 mbs is totally different from the 60mbs of chat logs. i would like to disable unnecessary backing up of stuff to icloud and start backing up to icloud again. can someone tell me what is this data indicated in next backup size?

I backed up my Whatsapp history to icloud but I've realised it has used too much of my storage. Can I delete the whatsapp backup from icloud? Thank you.What I said was "your space will not be available again until your phone backs up a few (at least three times)" since icloud is set up the way, that it holds up to three backups. So if you charge your phone overnight - three nights from now you will have more space. You can try to force manual backups by clicking "backup now" option in storage and backup area, but you would still have to wait until the earliest backup saved in icloud, will not have your whatsup app.

My apps and everything on my iPad are only partially backing up to iCloud. It's only backing up 1.7 GB but I have 13GB of stuff on my iPad. I have 200GB of iCloud storage so I don't know what the issue is.
Apps are not part of the backup. In app data is, but backing up the apps would be redundant as they can be re-downloaded from the store for free. Media (music, movies, podcasts, etc.) are also not part of the backup for the same reason.

I replaced my iPad with a new one. I backed up to iCloud but did not do a physical iTune Sync. Now I am having trouble recovering some Notes and Photos. I have been reinstalling Apps from the App Store. How do I recover my Notes?

I think I am following -- I was able to upload to my iPhoto and all photos and videos are there that is a plus! I tried to create an Event in my iPhoto and put all of my photos in that event but for some reason, now my iTunes it not recognizing that Event in my iPhoto. It is not allowing me to import just that event at the moment but I may be doing something wrong. At least all of my pics and vids are in iPhoto so that is a plus and I know they are at least saved somewhere. Just for some reason, my iTunes it not locating the event that I created with only those photos.

Also, I had no clue that my iCloud could be backed up via cellular data! However, is this a new feature with the most updated iOS?? Unforutnatly I am like 2 iOS updates behind because I don't have enough storage on my phone. I still get the notification that my phone needs to be plugged in and connected to wifi in order to back up to the cloud :-(
How can I sync using USB? Right now when i click on the info tab for my iPhone in my iTunes this is the answer that I get -- I am a little unclear as to what it means.

I saw that I had the iOS7 update, so I went to update it, but my phone said I didn't have enough storage for the update. I have deleted every app (which wasn't even that many anyway, since my storage was already being difficult), and all I have left on my phone is about 555 pictures. I came on here and saw that backing up your iCloud will help restore some of your storage, but when I went to do so, it said that I didn't even have enough storage to back my iCloud up! Someone please tell me how to fix this!
Delete Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and pretty much any other social media app, then reinstall them.
If you look at your storage, it'll show you which ones are hogging up the most space. Those apps like to keep multiplying in size if you don't keep them in check, so delete them, re-log in with all of them, and your "Other" space should drop significantly. -

To restore from an iCloud backup you have to erase the phone and start over. To do this, go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, then go through the setup assistant again and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup. There is no other way to do this.
Be sure you phone is connected to wifi and your charger as this is likely to take some time to finish. -
Ok I can't seem to get my apps,music, or photos from my iCloud from when I first setup iCloud on a iPhone 4. How do I get my things back from the iCloud and get them to my new device?
If you no longer have the phone or have any Backup of it at all, you can re-download your apps and your content from the iTunes Store by logging into your Apple ID at settings> iTunes & App Store. Unfortunately you can no longer recover the data that was associated with those apps.
So far as your photos go, you can recover any photos that were in photo stream and taken less than 30 days ago by logging in with your Apple ID to settings> iCloud> photos. Unfortunately you will be unable to recover any photos from your camera roll. -
Question about backing up using iCloud
When you back up using iCloud on one of the two or more iDevices you have, which app data is kept? For example, if I have different app data on my iPhone and iPad, and I then back up iCloud on my iPad, which of the two information will be kept? I suppose that I don't really understand how iCloud works exactly, so correct me if one of my assumptions are wrong.
The two devices will create separate backups, even if they are sharing the same iCloud account. In other words, the data and settings on both devices will be backed up. This article explains what is included in the backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12519.

That can be done with Elcomsoft Phone Breaker -- it allows to download all files from iCloud, not only backups. And WhatsApp data is also there (if appropriate setting is enabled in the program, of course).

- JimUnfortuantely, you can see what's in a backup without restoring it to your device. You also can't selectively restore just certain apps. Also, your apps aren't really stored in your backup, only your app data is. When you restore the backup, the app data is restored, then the apps are redownloaded from the App store, along with your other purchased media, assuming they are still available.
What you could do is back up your iPad to your computer (connect it to your computer, open iTunes, then go to File>Devices>Back Up and File>Devices>Transfer Purchases), then erase it (Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings), restore the old backup (go through the setup screens and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup). Then you could either live with the restored backup and all it contains, or erase it again and restore the iTunes backup you made earlier (connect it, open iTunes, go to File>Devices>Restore from Backup). -
Can i go back to an icloud back up before i lost my photos? I have tried yesterday 10/09/2012 but when restarting my phone from icloud the earliest backup it would let me select was 8/09/2012, it was about a week before this when i lost my photos and videos.

The first back up to iCloud may take some considerable time. Just how long isn't really possible to say without knowing how much is in your back up and your connection speed. -
I have both my iPhone and iPad backing up via iCloud but the data is not being shared between the devices. When I backup it appears to be working as there are no error messages but the data is not shared between each. Any help would be great as this is very frustrating.
Backing up to icloud is not the same as syncing data between devices. Go to
Settings>Store. Turn on the automatic downloads that you want on that screen.
Settings>iCloud. Turn on the features you want to sync between devices. -
I had to wipe my phone clean because of storage issues. It kept saying I didn't have enough storage for pics or apps, but I only had about 75 pics and 1 extra app. So, I backed up my iPhone on icloud and itunes, then cleared off my iphone using the steps in the settings. Then, when I am going back to restore my iPhone using iTunes back up and iCloud backup, it fails in both locations. It says it failed to be completed.

I was able to restore my backup from my time machine ext drive to a new 1tb seagate ext drive. so i felt sort of ok. but yesterday that older ext drive i used for time machine wouldn't open! i called applecare and they trouble shooted with me and said it's probably a goner and data is probably corrupted. it's only a few years old and i'm very careful with it. my husband accidentally dropped my new drive last night -- i know, unbelievable, i was SO upset, poor guy -- but I'm so stressed with all of this. i have 10 years of photos and videos. so now i only have the one newer drive with a backup. i have to buy another one today to backup again so i at least have two backups. i tried to delete a ton of files last night to free up the 30 gb of space i need to get my full library back on my mac. i have 90gb free and deleted 7 years worth of photos i had on picasa that were in my "pictures" folder and also a ton or random photos and videos i had in that same pictures folder and thought that would give me the 30 gb but it hardly freed up any space at all! do you know why that is? all of this stuff is really a pain and really stressful. thank god i did have a backup in the first place but now i am panicked the one i have left will somehow crash. especially after my husband dropped the drive lastnight! it didn't fall far and fell onto a wood floor and seems fine, but after my older ext drive crashed yesterday -- and i lost my entire iphoto library a fewweeks ago off my mac -- i feel cursed. any answers you have would be great. thank you.
