About data storing in SQL

Hi All
I've got one doubt recently Suppose
When we say <commit> to the insert /update/delete statements, the data will get stored in the data base permanently.
Before committing the statement where the data will be stored .

hi,
Theres are some background processes,SGA structures and datbasefiles which are used to process SQL statements.
All the insert statement data is store in Database buffer chache which on commit is written to to data files by database write.
All update,Delete statment results are stored in redolog buffer and the Log writer writen on commit to the redo log files.
The system monitor checks for consitency issues and if necessary initiates recovey of the database when the database is opened.
the check point process is responsible for updating database status information in the controlfiles and the datafiles when ever changes in the buffer chache are permanently recorded in the database.

  • Calling stored procedure in Access but data stored in SQL

    Our data is stored in SQL, but due to some restriction I need to make stored procedure in Access instead of SQL. I created the relevant link in Access to call the tables in SQL. Whenever I invoke the SQL database in Access, a login screen will appear which ask for password and user. This creates a problem for me when i execute the stored procedure in Access. It will create connection error to SQL database, just because I have no idea of how to write java code to fill in the username and password when the login dialog appears. Does anyone have any idea?

    Well, it still doesn't work. Here is part of the code, have a look please.

  • Write / store xml data in Xe and retrieve stored data using pl/sql

    Hi to all,
    i'm searching a tutorial on:
    A - how to write / store xml data in Xe and retrieve stored data using pl/sql
    I don't want to use other technologies, because i use htmldb and my best practice is with pl/sql.
    I was reading an ebook (quite old maybe) however it's about oracle 9 and it's talking about xmltype:
    1 - I don't understand if this is a user type (clob/varchar) or it's integrated in Oracle 9 however i will read it (it's chapter 3 titled Using Oracle xmldb).
    Please dont'reply here: i would be glad if someone can suggest me a good tutorial / pdf to achieve task A in Oracle XE.
    Thanx

    Thank you very much Carl,
    However my fault is that i've not tried to create the table via sql plus.
    Infact i was wrong thinking that oracle sql developer allows me to create an xmltype column via the create table tool.
    however with a ddl script like the following the table was created successfully.
    create table example1
    keyvalue varchar2(10) primary key,
    xmlcolumn xmltype
    Thank you very much for your link.

  • Plz its URGENT : Storing unicode data in MS SQL Server 2000 through JSPs

    Hello All,
    I'm trying to store unicode data, entered from JSP page into the SQL Server. For that I've tried the following :
    1> I put tag -
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
    2> Also set in JSP tag -
    <%@page contentType="text/html;charset=UTF-8"%>
    But, still data is being entered in ISO-8859-1 format, don't know why. I tried with function for convertion - private String toUniCode(String strPar)-it successfully shows me the unicode data in alret msg, but it doesn't enters unicode data in SQL Server. In SQL Server only '??????' get entered. I kept data-type in SQL Server as nvarchar to store data in unicode.
    Would it be possible for me, to accept the data as UTF-8 itself & can I store it in SQL Server as it is? How can I do that? I'm accepting data in 'marathi' language.
    Plz, anybody Help me, I'm trying for this from around more than 1 week.
    Thanks in advance for any replies!

    Hello dmorris800,
    Thanx for your help. In fact I've tried lot many alternatives for that. Later I realised that it was problame of Driver, not of code. I was using jdbc:odbc driver which doesn't support unicode, or I don't know what was the problame with it.
    But I downloaded the driver named :'TaveConnect30C'. It is the connection optimised driver of Atinav.com This is the JDBC3 Type 4 Driver for MS SQL Server 6.5/7.0/2000 & trial version of which can be downloaded from http://www.atinav.com/download.htm
    It is really very good type-4 Driver.

  • How to view workflow instance data in redable format which is stored in sql server in blob format

    Hope you are doing well,<o:p></o:p>
    I am praveen kumar i have query regarding microsoft workflow that i have created an workflow application and its working fine. Now i want to see the data which saved
    in database (sql server). when i check i found datakey and value is saved in UserEvent table but the data is saved in BLOB format. but i need to use that data in some sql reporting work. <o:p></o:p>
    what should i do to get that data. as i saved my object like user name, user id, user address . In redable format at database level.<o:p></o:p>
    Waiting for you response.<o:p></o:p>

    Hi praveen4.kumar,
    Welcome to WorkFlow forum.
    From your description above, it's recommended to use the method below.
    By default, the DataReader loads incoming data as a row as soon as an entire row of data is available. Binary large objects (BLOBs) need different treatment, however, because they can contain gigabytes of data that cannot be contained in
    a single row. The Command.ExecuteReader method has an overload that will take a
    CommandBehavior argument to modify the default behavior of the
    DataReader. You can pass SequentialAccess to the
    ExecuteReader method to modify the default behavior of the
    DataReader so that instead of loading rows of data, it will load data sequentially as it is received. This is ideal for loading BLOBs or other large data structures. Further information:
    Retrieving Binary Data
    Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to help.

  • Query data from MS SQL db through Oracle ? By using JAVA ?

    Hi folks,
    I would like to sync our one table in oracle db with table in different system, stored in MS SQL database.
    What would be the easiest option for connection from Oracle to MS SQL db to be able to query data from MS SQL through some Oracle package?
    If possible, I would like to keep all "tricky steps" within Oracle database. I heard about option with Java, but so far we have no experience with java in Oracle.

  • Why is performance so slow reading binary data from a SQL Azure DB with EF6.x

    I'm running a WPF client that hits a SQL Azure DB using EF 6.x. For the most part, everything seems to be working fine. The one exception is when I try to read a large binary column.
    I am storing files in the DB as a binary column.  When I test using the local DB, everything sings.  When I switch to the Azure DB, I get timeouts when I try to read the file contents.  I have no problem saving the binary data to the DB, just
    reading it.
    I don't know how to troubleshoot this.  I looked at the Query Performance page in the Azure portal, but it doesn't time stamp anything in there and you can't clear it, so I can't correlate what's running with the queries that show up there.
    I tried to start SQL profiler against the DB, but was denied because I'm not a member of the sysadmin fixed server role.
    If I query for the data directly, it comes back quickly.  So this seems to be an Azure via EF issue.
    Any help is appreciated.
    http://digitalcamel.blogspot.com/

    Hi Digital Camel,
    Since I don't know what your scenario is, I won't argue too much about not storing binaries in your SQL DB, but still: don't store binaries in your SQL DB :). The main reason is simple: first and foremost, in both the current and future pricing tier your
    levels are defines on the size of the DB. Basically, you pay way more by storing your binaries on your SQL layer rathern than storing them elsewhere, such as Azure Storage. Second, the protocol your binaries would be downloaded over the wire is prone to network
    connectivity issues: you could use HTTP(S) or FTP instead, if you'd use Azure Storage. Last but not least, when you download the binary from your DB, you keep a connection open which in the end is a connection other users might have used to query data instead.
    However, in regard to your question, how did you "query for the data directly"? Did you try to query the data using SSMS with the Client Statistics option on? This could tell you if the problem is network, server or client related.
    Hope this helps!

  • Use evdre to query data from a SQL View

    Hi all
    I believe that it is possible to use evdre to query data from a SQL View. If this is possible then how does one go about setting it up in the evdre options (assuming that the view has already been created)?
    Regards,
    Byron

    Byron,  perhaps this is no longer supported, it might be worth opening up a case at service.sap.com on this.  However, I did find the following on Page 11 of the "Usages and Considerations of EVDRE" pdf file.  This doc is imbedded in the helpfile for BPC 7 SP5 (which was released in August of 2009, well after note 1315011 was last updated.
    It looks like you are limited to one custom view per application, since you have to name the view in a parameter at the APPLICATION level.  Go into BPC Administration, login to the application related to the custom view, choose "Set Application Parameters" and enter the name of the view to the Application Parameter called "EVDRE_QUERYVIEWNAME"  If it is not listed, go ahead and create it at the bottom of the Application parameter screen.
    Also:  I interpreted the following info from Page 10 of the same doc:
    In your EVDRE, set the following options:
    QueryEngine: MANUAL
    QueryType:  enter either NEXJ  OR TUPLE  see below:
    NEXJ  - Use two-dimensional queries using the nonemptycrossjoin function
    TUPLE  - Use two-dimensional queries using tuples"
    And I'm assuming you'd enter a Y for the following two parameters:
    QueryViewName
    "..to enforce the query engine to use a used-defined SQL view of the fact tables, when trying to read the values using SQL queries. This option is typically used in conjunction with the SQLOnly option (see below). "
    Option SQLOnly
    "..to enforce the query engine to only execute SQL queries, when reading data. This can be achieved using this option."

  • How to handle Multiple date formats for the same date field in SQL*Loader

    Dear All,
    I got a requirement where I need to get data from a text file and insert the same into oracle table.
    I am using SQL*Loader to populate the data from the text file into my table.
    The file has one field where I am expecting date date data in multiple formats, like dd/mon/yyyy, yyyy/dd/mon, yyyy/mon/dd, ,mm/dd/yyyy, mon/dd/yyyy.
    While using SQL*Loader, I can see Loading is failing for records where we have formats like yyyy/dd/mon, yyyy/mon/dd, mon/dd/yyyy.
    Is there any way in SQL*Loader where we can mention all these date formats so that this date data should go smoothly into the underlying date column in the table.
    Appreciate your response on this.
    Thanks,
    Madhu K.

    The point being made was, are you sure that you can uniquely identify a date format from the value you receieve? Are you sure that the data stored is only of a particular limited set of formats?
    e.g. if you had a value of '07/08/03' how do you know what format that is?
    It could be...
    7th August 2003 (thus assuming it's DD/MM/RR format)
    or
    8th July 2003 (thus assuming it's MM/DD/RR format)
    or
    3rd August 2007 (thus assuming it's RR/MM/DD format)
    or
    8th March 2007 (thus assuming it's RR/DD/MM format)
    or even more obscurely...
    3rd July 2008 (MM/RR/DD)
    or
    7th March 2008 (DD/RR/MM)
    Do you have any information to tell you what formats are valid that would allow you to be specific and know what date format is meant?
    This is a classic example of why dates should be stored on the database using DATE datatype and not VARCHAR2. It can lead to corruption of data, especially if the date can be entered in any format a user wishes.

  • How to read XML data stored in CLOB in Concurrent prog Output

    Hi All,
    I'm trying to Generate the XML Data as concurrent Program output. I have a PL/SQL package which generated the XML data by using SQL/XML functions. I'm storing the generated XML data in a CLOB variable. But when i try to read the data using fnd_file.put_line(fnd_file.OUTPUT,XML_Data) it doesn't display data more than 32767 bytes.
    Please help me out to understand what could be done to read the data in chunks. I have tried many logic's to print chunks of data but the output tags are either chopped off and errors out saying Tag not found.
    My logic is as below:
    v_handler:= DBMS_XMLGEN.newContext(v_xml_query);
    --Sets NULL handling options
    DBMS_XMLGen.SetNullHandling(v_handler, dbms_xmlgen.EMPTY_TAG ) ;
    --Set special character handling
    DBMS_XMLGEN.setConvertSpecialChars(v_handler, TRUE);
    -- Specified whether to use an XML attribute to indicate NULLness of particular entity in the XML document
    DBMS_XMLGen.useNullAttributeIndicator(v_handler,TRUE);
    -- set Checking invalid chars
    DBMS_XMLGEN.setCheckInvalidChars(v_handler, TRUE);
    -- get the xml data as required
    v_xml_data:= DBMS_XMLGEN.getXMLtype(v_handler);
    SELECT XMLROOT(v_xml_data.extract('/*'),VERSION '1.0').getClobVal() into v_new_xml_Data from dual;
    -- get the length of the xml generated
    v_clob_len := dbms_lob.getlength(v_new_xml_Data);
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.LOG,'The Clob length is :'|| v_clob_len);
    -- logic to process string more than 32767 Processing by each character
    v_offset :=1;
    while (v_offset <= v_clob_len)
    LOOP
    v_char := dbms_lob.substr(v_new_xml_Data, 1, v_offset);
    IF (v_char = CHR(10))
    then
    fnd_file.new_line(fnd_file.output, 1);
    else
    fnd_file.put(fnd_file.output, v_char);
    end if;
    v_offset := v_offset + 1;
    END LOOP;
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.LOG,'The offset is :'|| v_offset);
    FND_FILE.NEW_LINE(FND_FILE.OUTPUT, 1);
    THe above logic is for character by character which is a performance burden? Please let me know if there is any other work around for this

    Hi,
    Thanks for Replying. I have refered http://blog.oraclecontractors.com/?p=69 and then i added that piece of code. Basically, i'm trying to generate a report using XML publisher. To generate the XML data i'm writing a pl/sql package with SQl/XML functions. DBMS_XMLGEN would help me convert the XML Data as is. When the concurrent program runs this XML data will merge with RTF layout and generate required report. I'm able to generate the Report for data less then 32767 bytes. More than the limit i need to pass chunks of XML data to read as output. That's the reason i'm using fnd_file.output. But it reads only 32767 size at a time.
    WHen i use the given logic, it works perfectly fine, but it loops for each character, for example if you have 30,000 characters it loops the same, which is peformance burden.
    So i tried to write the logic of chunks but still i get the error that XML tag is not found or missing. I'm hoping this is very common issue, but after all my trails, i didn't find the right solution.
    the other logic i tried was :
    v_new_xml_data varchar2(32767)
    v_iterations := CEIL(v_clob_len/v_chunk_length); -- v_chunk_length is 32767 and v_clob_length is length of the XML data stored inthe clob variable
    For i in 0..v_iterations
    LOOP
    FND_FILE.put_line (fnd_file.log,'the loops v_pos :'||i||' and v_clob_length :'||v_clob_len);
    v_new_xml_data := DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR ( V_XML_DATA,v_chunk_length,(i*v_chunk_length)+1);
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE (FND_FILE.OUTPUT,v_new_xml_data); -- read the output for every 32767 chunks
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.LOG, 'Chunk length is :'||((i*v_chunk_length)+1));
    END LOOP;
    FND_FILE.put_line (fnd_file.log,'out of loop');
    FND_FILE.put_line (fnd_file.log,'length of new xml is '||v_clob_len);
    Please, let me know if you need Further clarifications on the same.

    any help in this regard will b e much appriciated

    Hi,
    You should have created your own thread for this, and included database version.
    This works for me on 11.2.0.2 and 10.2.0.5 :
    SQL> create table t_org ( xml_clob clob );
    Table created
    SQL>
    SQL> insert into t_org
      2  values(
      3  '<Message>
      4  <Entity>
      5  <ASSIGNMENT>
      6  <OAVendorLocation> </OAVendorLocation>
      7  <Vendorid>1</Vendorid>
      8  </ASSIGNMENT>
      9  </Entity>
    10  </Message>'
    11  );
    1 row inserted
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete
    SQL> select '*' ||
      2         extractvalue(xmltype(xml_clob),'/Message/Entity/ASSIGNMENT/OAVendorLocation')
      3         || '*' as result
      4  from t_org;
    RESULT
    SQL> update t_org set xml_clob =
      2  updatexml(xmltype(xml_clob),
      3  '/Message/Entity/ASSIGNMENT/OAVendorLocation/text()','LONDON').getClobVal()
      4  ;
    1 row updated
    SQL> select '*' ||
      2         extractvalue(xmltype(xml_clob),'/Message/Entity/ASSIGNMENT/OAVendorLocation')
      3         || '*' as result
      4  from t_org;
    RESULT
    *LONDON*
    Does the OAVendorLocation really have a whitespace value?
    If not then it's expected behaviour, you're trying to update a text() node that doesn't exist. In this case, the solution is to use appendChildXML to create the text() node, or update the whole element.
    Is it your real document? Do you actually have some namespaces?

    See XML updating functions : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e23094/xdb04cre.htm#i1032611
    For example :
    UPDATE my_table t
    SET t.my_clob =
          XMLSerialize(document
            insertChildXML(
              XMLParse(document t.my_clob)
            , '/Activity/Spawned'
            , 'Activity'
            , XMLElement("Activity", 'Some GUID')
    WHERE ...
    ;Although it works, there's overhead introduced by parsing the CLOB, then serializing again.
    Is there any chance you can change the CLOB to SECUREFILE binary XMLType storage instead?
    You would then be able to benefit from optimized piecewise update of the XML and improved storage.

    SELECT COUNT(*) INTO i FROM TABLE(CAST(dt2 as tP2));
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('**'||i);
    end;
    While executing the above procedure, I encountered foll. error:
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [15419], [severe error during PL/SQL execution], [], [],
    ORA-06544: PL/SQL: internal error, arguments: [pfrrun.c:pfrbnd1()], [], [], [], [], [], [], []
    ORA-06553: PLS-801: internal error [0]
    Can anyone please help me, where the problem is??
    Is it Possible to retrieve data from PL/SQL TABLE using SELECT statement? & How ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Jay Raval.

    Thanks Roger for the Update.
    It means that have to first CREATE TYPE .. TABLE in database then only I can fire a Select statement on that TYPE.
    Actually I wanted to fire a Select statement on the TABLE TYPE, defined & declared in PLSQL stored procedure using DECLARE TYPE .. TABLE & not using CREATE TYPE .. TABLE.
    I was eager to know this, because my organization is reluctant in using CREATE TYPE .. TABLE defined in the database, so I was looking out for another alternative to access PL/SQL TABLE using Select statement without defining it database. It would have been good if I could access a PLSQL TABLE using Select statement Declared locally in the stored procedure.
    Can I summarize that to access a PL/SQL TABLE using SELECT statement, I have to first CREATE TYPE .. TABLE?
    If someone have any other idea on this, please do let me know.
    Thanks a lot for all help.
    Best Regards,
    Jay Raval.
    You have to define a database type...
    create type tP2 is table of varchar2(10)
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE TEST_PROC
    IS
    dt2 tP2 := tP2('a','b','c');
    i NUMBER(8);
    begin
    SELECT COUNT(*) INTO i FROM TABLE(CAST (dt2 AS tP2));
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('**'||i);
    end;
    This will work.

    Hi David,
    The things I said are not a fix for this problem.
    If your RCU installation worked, then you do not have to worry about modifying the createfr.sql.
    Edit:
    I've just tracked the problem. It appears that when using the query builder, BI forgets to add the " sign.
    For example:
    This query will give the hyperion error.
    select     "table"."field"
    from     "database.user"."table"
    To correct it write it like this:
    select     "table"."field"
    from     "database"."user"."table"
