About Exceptions and Logging
Hi all,
- In a project, we will throws or catch direct an exception or write our exception ?
Ex : throws or cacth : exceptions in java.lang.Exception
Or : CustomException
How many Exception class we will write ? and how we write ?
- I use log4j. We use direct or custom Logger ?
Thanks

Where can I find information about exceptions and errors?
I'm new to Java and sometimes run into errors that I don't understand. Is there a list of common errors somewhere that I could look at to at least get a general idea of what's causing my problem?
for instance:
I'm writing a little program where the user inputs a number and depending on their input a message is displayed. I'm using java.awt.*, java.awt.event.*, & javax.swing.* for my events, buttons, and other goodies. My program compiles & I can execute my main but when I click on the button that grabs the input I get the following errors.
java.lang.NullPointerException

I'm not asking for anyone to solve this for me. It's critical that I learn how to troubleshoot and figure out a solution. I was just wondering if there was a site or link on the web that generally discusses what these (and other) errors mean. Or if anybody could tell me what they mean?The Java API documentation is the first place to look. Each exception or error is a class. For instance, information on java.lang.NullPointerException is in the API for the java.lang package, toward the bottom.
For more than that, just search the internet for the name of the exception/error. -
Provider Hosted App - Exception Handling and Logging
Hello,
I would like to use file system to log the exceptions (The IIS server in which the APP is configured) for Provider Hosted App - Could anyone share some blogs/links related to that?
Thanks in advance,Well the first time, I asked the question, I think I
was not so clear. Please let me explain this in
detail. I am not architect, so correct me if I am
wrong.
I want to use log4J but definitely want to avoid using
them directly in our package, idea is to create
wrappers around all the external API, jar we are
using. At logging side I feel little comfortable.
But having little difficulty in thinking and designing
about Exception handling framework.
1. My aim is to create a general framework in 3 broad
categories (For Presentation tier, For Business tier,
for Data Access tier)
2. For each tier if you import those already created
framework classes, all developers should be just able
to use the methods of exception framework and use them
in catch block and throw them.
Example:- I would like to create a class called
MyProjectExceptionDecider, which will decide the type
of exception in Business Tier and then use my
MyProjectExceptionErrorParser, which reads the XML
document and gets a related message number and error
message.
This MyProjectExceptionErrorParser then passes the
right exception to MyProjectExceptionDisplayer which
will display the exception with right message and
message number.
And something more like this. I am not yet getting
complete picture.
3. So, if you have done something similar and if you
have the class diagram and sequence diagram for such
exception handling, I would be grateful if you are
willing to share with me.
Please let me know, if you have different ideas. I
request you all to participate and throw your ideas
and suggestions.
Srikanthgenerally, wheather or not you are using log4j or anything else, when designing exception handling mechnism, you need to decide on where or by whom an exception will be handled, and if the exception needs to be displyed, and how it is displayed. -
I purchased a used 2008 iMac. And although the previous owner said he deleted all of his information, his iCloud account is still the primary. I don't have a clue about what to do about it. I signed him out and logged in with my info, but still no go. Is there any way to eliminate his iCloud account and make mine the primary without rebooting it back to factory settings? There was an update, I believe, that I couldn't install because i didn't have his password that is what made me aware that his acct. was still active. I don't know what to do. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Before buying a second-hand computer, you should have run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, whichever is applicable.
The first thing to do after buying the computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. Changes made by Apple over the years have made this seemingly straightforward task very complex.
How you go about it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
It's unsafe, and may be unlawful, to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
1. If you don't own another Mac
a. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
b. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received the media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
c. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
d. Some 2010-2011 models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you can't reinstall 10.6 even from the original media, and Internet Recovery will not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
2. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
3. Partition and install OS X
a. If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
b. Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
c. An unusual problem may arise if all the following conditions apply:
OS X 10.7 or later was installed by the previous owner
The startup volume was encrypted with FileVault
You're booted in Recovery mode (that is, not from a 10.6 installation disc)
In that case, you won't be able to unlock the volume or partition the drive without the FileVault password. Ask for guidance or see this discussion.
d. After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
e. Run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.
4. Other issues
a. If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
b. If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
c. When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an iCloud account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. The setup limit doesn't apply to Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as the iTunes and Mac App Stores, or iMessage. You can create as many of those accounts as you like. -
A question about ROLLBACK and Unhandled Exceptions in stored subprograms
Hi,
Oracle version : Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit
OS : Linux Fedora Core 17 (X86_64)
At chapter 11 of the online PL/SQL Reference, here is what oracle says about Unhandled Exceptions :
If a stored subprogram exits with an unhandled exception, PL/SQL does not roll back database changes made by the subprogram.
I tried the following code:
code
HOST clear;
SET SQLBLANKLINES ON;
ALTER SESSION SET PLSQL_WARNINGS='ENABLE:ALL';
DROP TABLE tmptab;
CREATE TABLE tmptab(n NUMBER);
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE pkg1_pkg
AUTHID DEFINER
AS
MYEXCEPTION EXCEPTION;
PRAGMA EXCEPTION_INIT(MYEXCEPTION, -20001);
END;
SHOW ERRORS;
-- This is a subprogram which exists
-- with an unhandled exception
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE mytestProc
AUTHID DEFINER
IS
BEGIN
INSERT INTO tmptab(n) VALUES(100);
-- So this unhandled exception does a ROLLBACK
-- which cancels the previous INSERT statement
RAISE pkg1_pkg.MYEXCEPTION;
END mytestProc;
SHOW ERRORS;
BEGIN
mytestProc();
END;
SELECT * FROM tmptab;
And here is the output
BEGIN
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-20001:
ORA-06512: at "TRAINING.MYTESTPROC", line 6
ORA-06512: at line 2
no rows selected
The fact that SELECT * FROM tmptab gives: no rows selected indicates that the unhandled exception in the stored subprogram myTestProc did in fact a ROLLBACK for the INSERT statement into the tmptab table.
So I don't understand why in the documentation it has been mentioned that no ROLLBACK is not done.
Could anyone kindly make some clarification on this?
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
DariyooshHi,
If a stored subprogram exits with an unhandled exception, PL/SQL does not roll back database changes made by the subprogram.
What's going on here is that an anonymous block (which is not stored) exits with an unhandled exception, and that does roll back uncommitted transactions.
I created a procedure to see how many rows are in tmptab:
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE tmptab_cnt (in_txt IN VARCHAR2)
AUTHID DEFINER
AS
n PLS_INTEGER;
BEGIN
SELECT COUNT (*)
INTO n
FROM tmptab;
dbms_output.put_line ( n
|| ' rows in tmptab in '
|| in_txt
END tmptab_cnt;
and called it from your procedure, and also from your anonymous block:
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE mytestProc
AUTHID DEFINER
IS
BEGIN
INSERT INTO tmptab(n) VALUES(100);
tmptab_cnt ('mytestProc');
RAISE pkg1_pkg.MYEXCEPTION;
END mytestProc;
SHOW ERRORS;
BEGIN
mytestProc();
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
tmptab_cnt ('anonymous block');
RAISE;
END;
The output from this is:
Procedure created.
No errors.
1 rows in tmptab in mytestProc
1 rows in tmptab in anonymous block
BEGIN
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-20001:
ORA-06512: at line 6
no rows selected
As you can see, there was 1 row in the table after the procedure returned to the anonymous block.
Thanks for posting such a clear and complete test script; that really helps.
How did you format the code, with the green background and the title? -
Logging just exceptions and 'critical' TopLink info to the log
I'm trying to just log exceptions and other 'critical' info that occur within TopLink to the log rather than getting lots of SQL statements, unit of work info etc.
I'm running TopLink 9.0.3.5 in WebLogic Server 7.0 (SP4) using container managed persistence for Entity Beans.
If I startup WebLogic with the toplink.log.level=INFO option then I get SQL statements, unit of work info, JTS registration info as well as any exceptions that are logged.
If I leave the logging like this my WebLogic log will likely be huge and performance degraded from writing a lot of info that will never be used.
If I startup WebLogic with the toplink.log.level=NONE option then I don't get any log statements, not even exception info (although obviously clients still get the exception stack). I need to get the exceptions and 'critical' TopLink info in the WebLogic log because I cannot rely on getting the information from client logs.
In the TopLink for WebLogic 2.5.1 product the default logging behaviour was to log only exceptions and other 'critical' info to the log.
Is there a way to configure TopLink 9.0.3 so that only exceptions and any other 'critical' TopLink information is written to the log (and SQL statements, unit of work info and JTS registration info is not written).
Thanks.You don't mention which version of 10g you have but there is a bug in all versions 10.1.2.0.2 and newer in that usernames are no longer being inserted in the Apache log files when portal pages are viewed. It was somewhat hit or miss before, but good enough to get a feeling of what was being used Now, it does not even provide that. Bug number reference from Metalink is 5638057. It is shown as "Closed -- not feasible to fix", but will be addressed in 11.0
I am experimenting with getting this data a couple of ways. One, if you happen to use WebTrends, you can manually set the authenticated users field to whatever you'd like so I am using the API's to retrieve the username and the user company (organization) and concatenating them together.
The other option I am considering is a procedure call in the footer of each page that automatically updates a new table with the session id, username, page, timestamp, and whatever other information you may want each time the page is visited. This table can then be dumped to a data file if desired or left in the database and analyzed using a tool like Discoverer.

I was using my IPAD this morning. Powered it down, then when I powered it back up, it said activation required.. but it would not accept my password. I hit skip and logged in fine. Is this something I should be concerned about?
Probably - if it happens again. Chalk it up to a fluke occurrence for now.
I get the message on my iPad that it can't connect to the iTunes Store - While I am in the iTunes Store or the App Store happily navigating from one tab to another.
You can try rebooting the iPad to "clear the cobwebs" but if it is OK now, I probably wouldn't be overly worried. Rebooting being holding down on the sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen. -
Question about open and close of MySqlConnection
hi
i'd like to ask a question.
MySqlConnection connection = newMySqlConnection(stringConnection);
MySqlCommand cmd = connection.CreateCommand();
connection.Open(); and i have a try catch. accoding to your opinion, i should put connection.Close() in the block of try,or outside of block of try? according to you,if i open the connection and do not close,is it bad?or i open 2 times(using different istancse,like connection1 and connecton2),is it ok? thank u very muchbest regardsmartinThis code will work in tests. But it will propably fail in a production environment. You don't even close the connection and that is bad enough. This is how you should never,
EVER work with disposeable objects!
try
MySqlConnection connectionLev = newMySqlConnection("server=P30LSIMUL;user id=root;database=cncp20l");
MySqlCommand cmd = connectionLev.CreateCommand();
connectionLev.Open();
Console.WriteLine("OK");
catch (Exception ex)
Console.WriteLine(ex.Message);
try
MySqlConnection connectionLev = newMySqlConnection("server=P30LSIMUL;user id=root;database=cncp20l");
MySqlCommand cmd = connectionLev.CreateCommand();
connectionLev.Open();
Console.WriteLine("OK");
catch (Exception ex)
Console.WriteLine(ex.Message);
If code like that runs in any production environment, you are about to get fired.
From a catapult.
SqlConnections implement Finalize so when the GC does collect them, they will be properly closed. That can be anywhere between "milisccond the reference vanishes" and "the programm is closed after 100 years of the computer running without
a hitch and reboot."
Put one of those blocks (or both) into a loop that runs 100 times and you will run out of avalible SQL conenctions.
Since you alraedy have a try...catch block, just use the construct that Magnus showed you:
Put the variable outside of the try (so finalize can access it). Check for null (in case an exception happened before/during the creation, not during the use of it) then Dispose.
Note that finalize is even run after the function it is contained in returns (about the only code that can still run then). And that you should always log/expose ex.ToString(), never only the message (that one contains only 5% of the information, the otehr
95% are much more important).

hi,erveryone,
one difficult question need help.
Environment: WLS8.1sp2 + WLI8.1sp2 + ORACLE9i + solaris9
when I started archiver manually,just for a while, wli system generated about 40,000 JMS messages in
wli.internal.worklist.timer.queue,and consume the great mass of system resource of Database server,I had to stop these
archive processes immediately to keep other applicaitons which using the same database running normal. I did so by
following steps:
(1) in WLI console, delete wli.internal.worklist.timer.queue;
(2) in WLI console, reconstruct wli.internal.worklist.timer.queue;
(3) restart wli server.
after server was restarted, wli server output endless and repeatly exception to log file ,the typical exception was:

The wli server generated log file very quickly ,:it can output 1M bytes log file per second,all logged information
is similar to the <BEA-010049> excetpion metioned above. BEA support engineer suggested me to totally stop the
archive ,I did so,but the server was still ouput the log file like crazy as before and the normal log information are
completely override by <BEA-010049> excetpion.
I checked the EntityEJBs in WLI console :Mywlidomain> Applications> WLI System EJBs> WLI Worklist Persistence$)A#,and
found that in statistics table :
ListenerBean : Pool miss ratio = 99.67%, transaction rollback ration = 99.90%,Destory Bean Ratio = 99.48%(see
attachment)
WorklistTimerMDB: transaction rollback ratio = 99.97%
It seems ListenerBean worked incorrectly.I searched in support.bea.com and found one example which also about server
output endless log file,the author solved this problem by changing Bean's transaction-attribute from 'Required'
to 'RequiresNew' thought he didn't know why it works. I try this method by changing ListenerBean's
transaction-attribute from 'Required' to 'RequiresNew'.

really it works, the log file output resume normal. But there are still some problems:
(1) this exception is still exist:
javax.ejb.NoSuchEntityException: [EJB:010140]Bean with primary key: '153.22.52.28-17343c7.10243c3c6ec.a51' not found.
(2) is this method safe ?(Does "Modify ListenBean's transaction-attribute" impat other parts of wli system?)
(3) after changed the transaction attribute, if turn on archive again, the server output endless exception:

How can I solve these problem ? any suggestion is warm welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Great LouBack up all data to at least two different storage devices, if you haven't already done so. The backups can be made with Time Machine or with a mirroring tool such as Carbon Copy Cloner. Preferably both.
Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup), launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup volume with the default options.This operation will destroy all data on the volume, so you had be better be sure of your backups. Quit Disk Utility and install OS X. When you reboot, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. That’s when you transfer the data from one of your backups. For details of how this works, see here:
Using Setup Assistant
Transfer only "Users" and "Settings" – not "Applications" or "Other files." Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled on the old system. Test. If the problem is still there, you have a hardware fault. Take the machine to an Apple Store for diagnosis.
If the problem is resolved, reinstall your third-party software cautiously. Self-contained applications that install into the Applications folder by drag-and-drop or download from the App Store are safe. Anything that comes packaged as an installer or that prompts for an administrator password is suspect, and you must test thoroughly after reinstalling each such item to make sure you haven't restored the problem.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication. -

Log Message:
Bug: BLZ-92 - catch IOException and log at the info level to keep from polluting the logs
QA: Yes
Doc: No
Details:
Tomcat 5+ throws a ClientAbortException when it receives a TCP RST while writing a response to a client that has exited. This custom exception extends IOException, and we were only doing lighter INFO-level logging for SocketExceptions so the ClientAbortException was getting past this leading to ERROR level logging. This little tweak will mean less pollution of the server logs during QE load tests.

Other then climbing in the phone and calling the vendor, you could try:
1. To use a BufferedInputStream to wrap the SocketInputStream before you wrap that in the DataInputStream. So basically:
DataInputStream dis = new DataInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(socket.getInputStream());On one of my implementations this made a difference of a factor of 200+! So instead of processing 500 messages per second, I could process 10000 messages per second!
2. Or to take it to the next level and take a look at using NIO. That is New IO, available since Merlin (Java 1.4). But that would take you way more time then the first attempt.
The thing addressed by the possible solutions above is the blocking nature of the Stream based socket handling. Using a buffered input stream reads ahead. The NIO thing is all about non-blocking IO, which uses Channels and Buffers instead of Sockets and Streams (note that these are not equivalent!).
Of course, if you didn't change something in your own code, it might just very well be that the vendor just screwed up his ;)

Besides throwing exceptions and the "return;" statement
Besides throwing exceptions and the "*return*" statement, what else clauses could complete a code block abruptly?
Originally I thought System.exit() should be one of that kind, and I was totally puzzled by the fact that finally clause dose not work with System.exit(). But after a few thoughts, it becomes clear to me that System.exit() dose not even complete a code block, let alone completing a code block abruptly. So is there other logic that could make a code block complete abruptly?
My question originates from paragraphs in <Thinking in JAVA>, which claim that, I quote,
"Unfortuantely, there's a flaw in Java's exception implementation. Although exceptions are an indication of a crisis in your program and should never be ignored, it's possible for an exception to simply be lost. This happens with a particular configuration using a finally clause"..."This is a rather serious pitfall, since it means that an exception can be completely lost, and in a far more subtle and difficult -to-detect fashion..."..."Perhaps a future version of Java will repair this problem"...
After check with JLS, it seams that it is legitimate to ignore the reason for the abrupt completion of the try block, if the corresponding finally block completes abruptly. I think whether this is a "pitfall, flaw" or not depends on how deeply we language users understand the purpose of the finally clause and it is better for me to know all the possible reasons for a code block to complete abruptly.
So, besides throwing exceptions and the "*return*" statement, what else clauses could complete a code block abruptly?warnerja wrote:
Case 1: Normal flow (no exception is about to be bubbled to the caller before getting to the finally block) - I'd say we want an exception back due to the failure to close the stream.
Case 2: The finally block was entered through an exception about to be bubbled to the caller - the caller can only get one or the other exception back, either the original exception or the one indicating the failure to close the stream. The finally block has no access to the pending exception however and is unaware of whether there is an exception pending or not. All it knows is an exception occurred during the execution of the finally block, and should throw that or wrap it in another exception - same handling as in Case 1.
try {
write();
flush();
finally {
try {
close();
catch (...) {
log();
}The flush() at the end of try seems kind of redundant, since close() calls flush() anyway. The benefit is that the try statement completion matches the try block ("real work") completion.
If we get to the end of the try block with no exception, then write() and flush() have succeeded and the data is where it needs to be. All that's left is to release the I/O resource, which will always be done in finally.
If there's an exception in the try block, it is propagated out, so we know of any failure that occurred doing the "real work." The I/O resource is still released in finally.
Regardless of how the try block completed, releasing the resource does not affect how the try statement completes, and hence does not supersede how our "real work" completes, which is all we care about. We still log any close() errors for later investigation. What matters to our program is whether all the data was written, and the completion of write() and flush() tells us that. -
Best avenue to file complaints about bill and have them resolved
I have been a customer since before 2005 and went with Ntelos in November, I called the night I was at Ntelos to ask Verizon what my contract buy outs were and I was given the prices. The representative tried to offer me whatever promotions she could offer (there wasn't many) and I declined service (there she should have took the initiative to ask about disconnecting). Since my bf opted to keep his number his phone disconnected automatically. I was told my Verizon phone would cycle off within 24 - 48 hours by the Ntelos rep. That was not the case so I called verizon to ensure my phone would disconnect and they told it would at the end of the billing cycle (december 20) which makes sense. I understand I would be responsible for the November - December. Anyways, December 20th rolls around and mind you I've called already to ensure it will take place and it doesn't. I phone in and come to find out the person who took my orders didn't complete the disconnection and now I have to wait until January 20th for it to cycle off and I can finally pay my bill! Well get this in my November - December bill they've charged me $51 for Monthly access (I have a work discount) and $49.99 for insurance and smartphone access for 12/21 - 1/20 and won't refund my $51 as they say that I called out on the phone. I turned the phone on and had voicemails that I think I checked around the time period that they are mentioning (1 day) and that data was used (1 day) I had no outbound calls after December 11th my birthday. Because there are no comments in my account (that I specifically asked them to make) my phone should have been disconnected when I had called in the first of December... really!?! The phone should have been turned off regardless and it was one day out of 30 seriously? I mean the phone has been turned off this whole time and literally only checked to make sure Verizon did their job. I CAN'T HELP IT YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO YOUR JOB, I PUT THE EFFORT IN MULTIPLE TIMES TO LET YOU KNOW MY PHONE NEEDED TO BE DISCONNECTED YOU SHOULD HAVE KEPT RECORD OF IT!!! What really heats me up is that I was told a supervisor would give me a call back after they got out of a meeting and I have not rec'd a call back yet. VERIZON Reps/Supervisors your customers are the reason why you have get a paycheck, I suggest you start treating them a little better. You can't seriously tell me giving me back my $51 for service I DID NOT USE (except according to you for one day you can't even give me details about?) is really going to hurt your pockets. I've been jerked around by your reps for the last 2 months as one told me my contracts were up in January and I shouldn't' be charged for disconnection fees at all, she credited me those termination fees but they later got rejected (after she said her supervisor approved while I was on hold) and NO ONE HAD THE COURTESY TO NOTIFY ME!
I've worked in customer service before and I'll be first to tell you that your reps are not trained very well and you have horrible ethic! You should not charge your customers for an error that was your fault; especially since it was your reps that I asked specifically to note my account and didn't (this isn't my first rodeo with you all, it should be standard procedure to give your reps time to comment before throwing them into another phone call). I'm not doing this for my health here, that $51 could buy diapers and baby food for my daughter and you are crazy if you think I'm going to let it slip through my fingers to line your pockets. I will keep escalating it until you do something about it and I don't care that you already gave me an inconvenience credit I deserve that and my $51 so don't try to justify it that way! This has been way more than an inconvenience, so don't worry I'll inconvenience you as well!
>> Edited to comply with the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service <<
Message was edited by: Verizon ModeratorWith my new provider I am only using the chat function to settle anything with them so I can save the conversations I've had with them (not that I've had any issues thus far). It should be standard procedure for them to comment your account while they are on the phone with you before hanging up. I should have been annoying and asked them to read back their comments (hindsight ugh!). I'm sorry that you are having to deal with this as well, just know you are not the only one receiving horrible customer service. I'll share with you what I wrote on their Facebook page. They really should take some accountability for their actions and have better follow up on resolving issues (or train their representatives better). I can't stand having to talk to another person time and time again explaining the same thing i just explained to 3 people before them.
Almost immediately, I received some attention after posting this:
Dear Verizon,
I am appalled, especially after reading your credo, that you are refusing to credit back money that is owed to me because your representatives didn't take the necessary time that they should have to comment (after I specifically asked) in my account after I diligently called in multiple times to ensure that my disconnection took place when it was scheduled to and was told that it would (an ongoing issue since the beginning of December). Come to find out that the representatives I spoke with prior to December 20th didn't do their jobs correctly by not entering the disconnection orders in. "Verizon Credo- a set of principles that describes our culture of integrity, respect, performance excellence and accountability. The Credo is a blueprint that directs us to live up to the highest standards possible when serving our customers, shareowners, communities and each other." Let me school you on something here because it appears that you just put that mission statement up on your website 'cause it sounds good, you certainly do not follow through! Accountability: Noun - the quality or state of being accountable; especially an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one's actions (i.e. public officials lacking accountability). It doesn't matter that you cannot find any proof in my statements it doesn't change the fact that it happened and I am not a liar. I seriously wouldn't exhaust this must effort had I been lying. I'll take this a step further and reference your statement "we focus outward on the customer, not inward. We make it easy for customers to do business with us, by listening, anticipating and responding to their needs." First of all, when I made my initial call to you all asking what my contract buyout prices were and your rep tried to offer me promotions (or lack there of) to keep me as a customer and I declined she should have "anticipated" my need for disconnection. I shouldn't have had to jump through so many hoops to get my service disconnected from you all and pay my final bill. It's not my fault that your representatives weren't trained well enough to correctly put through disconnection orders. Based on my interactions with your customer service I could see where people would disconnect their services regularly!!!!! You are not making it easy for me to severe ties with you and conduct BUSINESS and you are not responding to my NEEDS. I think you forget that I could be a potential customer in the future. If it's one thing I learned from my Communications Degree is that negative feedback will reach more consumers vs. positive feedback of a company and how they handle their business. I have 1,000 plus facebook friends and twitter followers so I'm pretty sure my negative experience could reach quite a few people! You say you have integrity? How is it moral uprightness to charge me for a whole month of service (regardless if the phone was turned on once) for a billing period that shouldn't have existed if your customer service reps did their job correctly? I suggest that you all take a good look at the way you are treating your current customers because we are the reason you get a paycheck! You should make your customers a priority especially if they've been with you for 10 + years regardless if they are disconnecting service or not! How about following through, taking ACCOUNTABILITY and having that supervisor representative call me back from my phone conversation last night like I am a priority (how every customer should be treated) and helping me get the money that I am owed, regardless if the phone had been turned on for a short period (your rep couldn't even tell me what numbers I supposedly called - exactly the phone has been off since December 20th if not before unless turned on to confirm disconnection)! Oh but let me guess did you all forget to put that in my account comments as well? Probably like there is no mention of the formal complaint I filed against some of your representatives that there was supposedly no ticket number for. I thought I was going to regret leaving Verizon for another provider but it turns out that I only wish I would have left sooner and actually gone to a authorized dealer/ Verizon Store to process my disconnection because your customer service line is a joke! -
My Macbook Pro keeps crashing and logging out frequently, continuously
My Macbook Pro early 2011, memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3, 2GHz intel Core i7, Mountain LIon 10.8.2
It keeps crashing and pushing me to "log-in" window. At first, it only happened mostly when I was using Google Chrome but then I removed Chrome and used Safari, it still happened and the times are more frequently.
I backed everything all up and reinstalled Mountain Lion and everything again. At the moment my Macbook Pro was upgraded the memory to 8GB of Corsair and it still crashed and loged me out. The Apple guy asked me to remove the 8GB memory and replace with the original one from Apple. I did and ir run smoothly for like 3 days and it happened AGAIN and since then it keeps crashing and logging out and hanging some softwares..
And today is the limit, my macbook Pro has kept crashing CONTINOUSLY and I had to restart and shut down like 5 times.
It is real annoying and affect to my works.
I just updated the latest from Apple (the java) today and I was wishing it would stop crashing but still.
The Crash Reports are most of WindowServer but today it is more: hidd and SecurityAgent and some softwares are hang like Skype, Adobe, iTune and VLC.

Windows 7 takes 15 mins to log in and log off - School Enviroment
Hi All,
We're getting a very weird issue at present, our environment consists of 20
students with Windows 7 SP1. They login with roaming profiles. We've noticed
that when they login it takes up to 15 mins and logging off/shutting down takes
about 15 mins also. We have to re-image the PC's to get them working back to
normal however the problem just comes back!
What we've done so far,
Checked cables - all is ok
Used the Verbrose regedit on start-up to find that we needed to install
this hotfix from Microsoft (KB2537556) (worked for a week but then back to
normal, only for logging in not logging off)
Tried some GP changes
Local GP change - time waiting for network reduced to 15 secs then to 0 - no
change
Local GP change to remove all desktop items to see if that was causing
changes - no change
Only affects Student PC's which are used by all students
Any help would be great :)
MRHi,
First please check to see how big the student’s profiles are, what is the result if we compare it with teacher’s?
You can also enable boot logging in process monitor to find the cause of the slow logon, please refer to this blog.
The Case of the Veeerrry Slow Logons
http://blogs.technet.com/b/markrussinovich/archive/2012/07/02/3506849.aspx
And check whether you have Enabled “Delete cached copies of roaming profiles” policy setting, enable this policy will delay logoff as some yet-to-be-identified component in the OS is triggering Windows desktop search to cache settings on behalf of each locally
cached profile at logoff.
Regards
Yolanda
