  • Moving average price becomes negative

    Dear all,
I have read several threads about this subject but my scenario is a little bit different than the ones described so far:
    1 - I had a GR of 12 Tons for 2000 u20AC for material A
2 - Product A had several production consumptions (movement 261) with the correct MAP
3 - My user has accidently posted the invoice for 2000 u20AC, but for a quantity of 12 Kg. This caused a change in the moving average price, causing the following consumptions (261) to be wrong. This posting was done in January (already closed) but only detected now, unfortunately.
4 - We have found the message when the user detected the mistake and tried to cancel the invoice.
As we have dozens of consumptions of this product and dozens of sales orders of the finished product (for which product A was a component), I was thinking of making a value change in MR21 for component A, so that the following consumptions would be correct. And correct the MAP of the finished products, so that the cost of sales is corrected from now on.
I would also forget about canceling the invoice.
Can you tell me if this is the correct approach recommended by SAP? Has any of you faced similar issues that has a better solution?
    Thanks in advance,
    JL

Option 1 : You have to cancel all the documents last come First to Nullify the effect.( Which I feel the best practice may be bit tedious). And do the postings as required.
Option 2 : Do Manipulate with Movement type 561, means just Put 1 kg or .1 kg with very high value to mitigate the MAV value.
Option 3 : You can go for MR21.

  • Moving Average Price-calculation

    Dear All,
Can anybody explain about the Calculation of Moving average price of the material  in case of 309 movement i.e. Material to Material Transfer.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Girish

    Hi there!
At 309 movement type (materia to materia transfer), moving average of receiving material is calculated as:
Existing value of receiving material (existing stock x existing moving average price)    +   value of units transferred (units of sender material x MAP of sender material)     /     (Existing units of receiving material + units transferred)
Please revert if more explanation required

  • Product Costing using Moving Average Price of FERT & HALB

    Dear Experts,
My client wants to use Product Costing functionality by using Moving Average Price instead of Standard Price on Finished Goods & Semi Finished Goods and as per my understanding, SAP recommends to use Standard Price on FERT &  HALB.
I know if we use moving average price instead of standard price than there will be no concept of variances. Can anyone tell me more about what are the pros and cons of using moving average price instead of standard price in Product Costing?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Zain Bashir

    Hi Zain
    Let's take an example
You have V for Mat A
You create 3 Prod orders in a month
    Order 1 - Qty 10 - variance 100
Same for Order 2 and 3..
At month end, you sold 20 pieces and 10 is in stock..
When you settle order 1, system will compare order qty and stock.. It will match I.e. 10 = 10... Hence variance of 100 will be posted on stock
Same will happen for Order 2 and 3... Ideally, only 100 should have posted on stock... but in this case 300 of variance will be posted on stock...
This is what the note mentioned by Arturo tells, but not so clearly
    Hope this helps

  • PROBLEM WITH MOVING AVERAGE PRICE

    Hi,
Correct me if I’m wrong, but from what I know the moving average price should only change or be recalculated when purchases or goods_recipts are made, otherwise items should be consumed at a FIXED moving average price (cost).
I´ve noticed when looking into the Inventory Audit Report that the moving average price is changing in my installations and I see that SAP BO recalculates it every time an issue is made. This last thing only happens when the total amount of the transaction is rounded or left with 0 decimals and the other types such as prices, rates, quantities, percent, etc. are left with 2 or 3 decimals.
Because of my country settings, the total amount has to have 0 decimals (I live in Chile and we don’t have cents in our currency) and the moving average price of an Item should not change when an issue is made, can you help me with this?
Thanks and best regards to you all.
    Fernando

    Hi Nagesh,
Thank you for your quick response.
I understand what you say, but moving average price should not change when an issue is made and that´s what is bothering us.
The difference between what it shoud be and what SAP BO is calculating is our concern, ie: let´s say the number of transactions is 100, would that difference be negligible?
    Here is an example:
    Goods issue:
    SO 8     11     -10,49     166,67     -1.748     99,35     16.559
    SO 9     11     -10,49     166,673     -1.748     88,86     14.811
    SO 10     11     -10,49     166,678     -1.748     78,37     13.063
    SO 11     11     -10,48     166,684     -1.747     67,89     11.316
    SO 12     11     -10,56     166,681     -1.760     57,33     9.556
Note that coma (,) is decimal separation and period (.) is the mile separator.
Where the 3rd line is the quantity of the goods issue, the 4th is the moving average, and the 5th is the total quantity of the issue.
So you see 10,49 x 1748 = 1748,39977= 1748(SAP) and then SAP BO recalculates the AVG. Price.
The problem I was talking about was the difference of the stock AVG Price with one hundred transactions or so... now the difference seems negligible (166,7 - 166,681 = 0,011).
Can you see it changes?, is that a bug?
    Thank you
    Fernando

  • Moving Average Price get updated

    Hi MM Gurus,
Please advise why the moving average price is populated when a material is a Standard Cost price control and the standard cost is updated on the Material Master.
Having a Standard cost and a Moving average price on one material is confusing the Business.
    Thanks,
    Themba

    Hello ,
If the material price control is "Standard Price " , even then the moving average price will be calculated by the system .
This is purely for statistical purpose , & gives a fair idea about deviation of Std price from the MAP.
Ideally speaking , std price shud be always close to MAP.

  • Moving average prices and std prices

    hi friends,
i have a doubt abt prices...
which will b assigned for raw materials-standard price? or avg moving price? and why?
if possible explain clearly about avg.moving price and std.price
for spit valuation what price we will use??
    help me out..
    thanks in advance...
    venkat

Standard price are used for products that do not fluctuated frequently.  It is usually used for finished or semi finished products.
Moving average price are used mainly for raw materials that are purchased externally.  The advantage of using moving average price for your raw materials is that your inventory costs will always reflect the current market cost.
SAP strongly recommends that you do not select price control V for semi-finished products and finished products, because doing so will very easily cause the calculation of unrealistic valuation prices. SAP recommends:
Price control V for raw materials and trading goods; price control S for semi-finished products and products
We recommend that you only use price control V for materials procured
externally. Materials produced in-house should be subject to a
    standard price control.
Generally all raw materials (ROH), spare parts (ERSA), traded goods (HAWA) etc. are assigned as moving average price (MAP)  because of the accounting practice of accurately valuating the inventory of such materials. These materials are subject to the purchase price fluctuations on a regular basis.
The semi-finished goods (HALB) and finished products (FERT) are valuated with standard price because of the product costing angle. If these were to be MAP controlled, then finished/semi-finished product valuation would fluctuate due to data entry errors during backflushing of material and labour, production inefficiencies (higher cost) or efficiencies (lower cost). This is not a standard accounting and costing practice
For Split valuated material it is recommended to use Moving average price

  • Affect of discount on COGS and moving average prices

    Hi experts,
    I want your suggestion to build following scenario in SAP;
Case: During purchase order, vendor has given special discount for a material when purchased for a specific customer.
    Requirement: I need to know following;
    1. How are those specific prices could be reflected in COGS?
    2. How do those specific prices affect the moving average price? is there any way to avoid this effect in the COGS?
    Thanks

    Hi Pirzada
Considering that you are working with material ledger system will calculate moving average price doesn´t matter the discounts conditions you had during month.
System will revaluate all consumption considering this moving average price.
Maybe you could think about Splliting Valuation feature ou  Make to Sales Order scenario.
These are ways to have a specific cost using the same part number.

  • Changing of Inventory Valuation:  Standard to Moving Average Price

I work at a service-based company and have also been asked to research the impact involved with switching our inventory from standard price to moving average price.
Scenario:  Change material type TRAD (trading goods) from standard price to MAP.
Process:  Change settings in SPRO at the level of u201CDefine Attributes of Material Typesu201D.  Currently, this is set for u201CStandard priceu201D with the indicator u201CPrice ctrl mandatoryu201D set.  Upon change to u201CMoving average price/periodic unit priceu201D, Iu2019m thinking I need to de-activate the u201CPrice ctrl mandatoryu201D field so any current materials with an u201CSu201D in the Price control field on the Material Master Accounting 1 tab can be changed to u201CVu201D.  Is this correct?  Also, is there a program that already exists to mass update the Price control field on the Material Master?  If not, I was looking to create a CATT for this changeu2026.any other ideas?  In some of the forum posts it was mentioned to use t-code MR21 however, even with the u201CPrice ctrl mandatoryu201D field de-activated, the Price control column is grayed out.
It was mentioned in a previous post that all open documents (PO to IR) need to be completed before changing the price control setting, at what point does this stop the process?  Does SAP generate a system error message?
Also, any suggestions as to when this price switch is best to take place like after inventory?
Are the above mentioned areas the only areas I should be concerned about or am I missing some areas that should be addressed?
P.S. We do not use have our ML (material ledger) activated or use split valuation.
    Thanks~
    Dawn

    Hi,
If you want to change material from standard to moving average price, Follow the below process
1)first the material quantity and value should be zero
2)if you want to keep value and quantity and want to change price control in future you have to create new material with price control "V' and lock the previous material for posting.

  • How to get Material Master Moving average price into Purchase Order

    Hi,
How to get Material master moving average price into purchase order instead of Purchase Info record.
    Thanks,
    Sridhar

    Hi,
I  cannot understand whether it is necessary .
           How about as following step?
                 1. create Purcahse requisition
Price come form moving average price in material master.
                 2. Create Purchase order reference Purchase  requisition
There is a setting  from the unit price of P/R onto the unit price of P/O.

  • Tolerance for moving average price.

    Hi Gurus,
I'd like to know if we can set a tolerance limit for moving average price.I'm not sure about the settings but I think ther should be a way of doing this. I'd really appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks
    Cheris T

    Cheris,
You can use the tolerance key VP (defined for each company code) to control the percentage variance for changes to the MAP of a material during a goods receipt or an invoice posting. Typically, this is set to a large value.
You can define these tolerances in OMC0 for a goods receipt (as PVS suggested) or OMR6 for an invoice posting.
    Hope this helps.

  • Changes to moving average price

    Dear All,
I need to have a report showing Changes to moving average price for multiple material masters. Please suggest me if there is any standard way of getting it. Or from some tables i can take values.
    Regards
    MSR

    Hi,
I think there is no std report to find out the MAP of the material. But however you can find the map using MBEW table for that material at that instance. Also you may try to use MDEWH to know the MAP for any period (like previous periods). The downlosd may give you some picture about MAP changes.

  • Moving Average price valuation

    Hi,
We are maintaining rawmaterial at V-Moving Average price in the material master Record, so the consumption will be booked at V  price, but what about the closing valuation of rawmaterial, whether it is valued at V price or any other value.
Second Query is how the price difference will be posted, how the system calculates the price difference whether at V price, whether it will post price difference or not.
please provide the info i will assign points.
    sd/-
    Rajesh

    1. Both the consumption & the closing valuation of the raw-materials will be at "V" (moving average price).
    2. When the materials are mantained at "V" (moving average price), there is NO price difference varaince. All the price difference flows to the material valuation itself.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Updating the Moving Average Price

We want to adjust the price of a material to account for storage overhead by adding 10% to the price. We have found procedures to modify the price if the price control is standard, but none for moving average prices.
As I understand it, the moving average price is re-calculated for a material every time stock is received and the new value is stored in table MBEW (VERPR). We’ve pretty well determined that we don’t want this to change. Rather, it seems best to simply add 10% at goods issue time (and do a split valuation for the account assignment).
I’ve examined transaction MIGO for user exits and found a couple that look promising: EXIT_SAPM07DR_001 (Customer Function Exit: Material Document Item for GR/GI Doc) and EXIT_SAPM07DR_002 (Customer Function Exit: Acct Assgmt for Multiple Acct Assgmt). I didn’t find any BADIs.
Has anybody used these exits for this purpose? Are there other exits or BADIs that would be more appropriate? Does it make sense to change the price this way at all?
    Thanks
    Rob
Well, I got about the response I expected. I'll close it in a couple of days if no one has any ideas.

    Hi Rob!
I found this thread again and started reading a little bit.
    I can't follow your problem.
When you have PO and vendor invoice, then we should talk about goods <b>receipt</b>. Then it's quite usual to add additional values (like freight costs, taxes, customs...), which are not part of vendor invoice, but can be part of goods receipt value (depends on statistic flag).
When you have goods <b>issue</b>, then you have internal movement (to a different company code) or sales process. Then you should not increase goods value above moving average price - otherwise goods receipt of 100 PC and goods issue of same 100 PC won't end up with 0 value. Your revenue (for storage costs, handling fees, packing material...) can be added in an invoice for the sold goods - but that's not part of VPRS (stock value).
The question, if you display something in an outgoing invoice is just related to printing - internal documents can be larger.
Also selling based on saved conditions (not based on VPRS + surcharge) is an option -> free defined surcharge, no possibility for outsiders (personal in warehouse) to follow up the mark-up.
But I guess, your thinking about extension of an existing process: you might have already an unusual starting point for process design.
Work-around? Yes, I've heard of customers, where end-of-year balance is 'tuned' in excel before presentation to officials. There are many ways to solve a problem

  • Moving Average price, Std price and FIFO

    Hi folks,
It seems our client wants to use FIFO valuation for its items rather than Moving Average because FIFO gives them an actual price for their Finished Goods (the client does not have any manufacturing).
I beleive the question the client wants answered is: <b>Can they can use the FIFO valuation within COPA-AB (account based) instead of costing based</b>.
The client manager seems extremely sure that this can be done in COPA. Can it be done? If so, how would we go about it? My understanding is that COPA only captures the cost with the revenue. It captures the cost the moment you ship a product.
I think CO-PC handles this, however I think you need PP implemented as well and the client is not implementing PP at this time. I could also be totally wrong about all of this.
Hopefully this all makes sense. Unfortunately I cannot upload an example of what I mean.
    Appreciate any thoughts on this.
    Thanks!

    You are absolutely correct.
COPA is used for reporting cost & revenues for internal use. It has nothing do with inventory valuation.
It is product costing which is used for material valuation in manufacturing scenario. As you mentioned, that products are not manufactured. there is no need to implement PP & product costing.
In SAP material is valuated either at moving average price or standard price a sper price control in material master. However, there are functionality in SAP where materials can be re valuated at period end for legal reporting. Explore the functionality in MM -> balance sheet valuation (do not remember the exact path). In this materials can be re-valuated as per various principles or can be done via user exits.
    Hope it helps.
