? about SWF and HTML5

Hi All,
Thanks for looking in. I just created my first FLA file and exported to SWF with a hyperlink, music and a few effects in it. Pretty nice. 750kb for a 40 seecond loaded movie.
I was checking out these links and tutorials:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/createjs/articles/using-flash-pro-toolkit-createjs.html
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/createjs/articles/getting-started.html
I absorbed 70% of it on the first read and will play with the example tomorrow. I just want a better grasp of the firing order of this please.
From what I gather, and this is where my question's are.
Do I need to upload the assets (exported assets & Jsfile) from my HTML5 export from that FLA movie to a / my server, (if I do not use an SWF container) This is how a browser can aquire it and run it? Then I need to paste the JS code into my HTML page so a Browser will have the instructions? I am a bit confused on this HTML5.
That SWF movie I just created (mentioned above) in Flash Pro will need to be placed in a player & skin, right? Or I can use an outlet like Youtube and embed a player. As I have been doing in the past with my .264. / .mov files. However to get graphics like Yahoo is using on their splash pages. Like onclick(); mouse over, etc. So that the images play on top of the page and not in a confined player. Almost as though they are transparent on the page. I need to Export HTML5, upload assets to a server and create my HTML page for the layout. Right?
Sorry if I am a bit incoherent on my questions, but I am a bit confused. I was under the impression ( at least that is what Adobe's promo video's appear to do) that I can create a flash movie, export to HTML5  upload the folder, paste the JS code on the html landing page a viola' . I am a bit hazy on the js code for the html landing page. However I did get the CS6 Master suite which has DreamWeaver. If I recall, when I used it when it was DreamWeaver 5 that should help with the specific paths.. Please advise
Thank you,
NetCommercial.

yes

yes, but createJS will create an html file for you.  so, you could start with that.
I am a bit confused on this HTML5.
That SWF movie I just created (mentioned above) in Flash Pro will need to be placed in a player & skin, right?
no, it will be displayed like any other html page with javascript.  ie, in the user's browser window.  there is no flash player involved.
Or I can use an outlet like Youtube and embed a player. As I have been doing in the past with my .264. / .mov files.
no, you will not be creating a video (flv/f4v) with createJS.
However to get graphics like Yahoo is using on their splash pages. Like onclick(); mouse over, etc. So that the images play on top of the page and not in a confined player. this doesn't make sense to me.

what don't you a swf with a simple motion tween and use createJS to see how things work.

  • Question about .swf and HTML5 output and passing variables via querystring

    Hello,
    I am using Captivate 7. We're developing a program that we would like to output both for desktop users and mobile users.If I'm correct, multiscreen.html will determine whether or not to load index.html (which is for mobile users) or yourprogram.htm (for desktop users).
    Currently, we pull and push data from the database using .NET via a querystring and Javascript into yourprogram.htm. In the program, there's a Response.Redirect which sends that data (what screen you've finished reviewing as well as quiz data). So it basically reloads yourprogram.htm after each "save" point. We're wondering how to best approach it if multiscreen.html is first loaded, we imagine the variables may not get passed back and forth correctly into the index.html(HTML5 output)? Has anyone had experience with developing a program this way?
    Looking forward to your insights, recommendations and anything to look out for.
    Thanks,
    Ruth

    Basically, the code is meant to be an example of using a wrapper to modify output before it gets written to the file. So, println is called and the wrapper just alters any text that comes to it before it gets printed to the file. Think of writing to a message to an error log and appending the Date and time to the front.
    The code works fine if you only work on the string that is passed in by itself such as:
    s = s.replace('1', '2');When I try to add text onto the string s I run into problems. I need to send the length of the string to the write function but then length ends up being 8202 on the new string. I don't understand why. I am wondering if this has to do with converting chars to string or the way strings are passed to methods.
    This method is called first and then calls the write method with the string as a param.
    public void write(char[] cbuf, int off, int len) throws IOException {
                    String s= new String(cbuf);
                    this.write(s, off, len);
            }but for some reason when I try to create a new string from the string passed in or try to append text to it, the length of the string gets message up.
    Does that help?
    Sorry, I am just trying to understand what is going on here.
    Thanks.

  • How to publish for both swf and html5

    I have a course that I need to publish for swf and html5, and have the system automatically detect which browser the user has.  Can someone help me figure out how to do this?  I am not a very technical user.  I am using Captivate 6.  Thanks
    Danielle

    You just have to check both SWF and HTML when publishing. Load up everything to a server. Have a look at this video, some more in the same channel:

  • CP8 - Videos in SWF and HTML5 publication

    Hi !
    I thought that with the captivate v8.0.1.242 there was only one version of the exported videos (see here http://goo.gl/gXeXIY). But it doesn't... size spend 50 MB to 100 MB...
    I missed something?

    It would make more sense to me that Captivate DID create more than one size of video if you are targetting devices with different size screens.  A video file that is double the dimensions (height and width) will likely be four times as many megabytes to download.  To avoid wasting bandwidth and improve user experience on the smaller devices it would make sense to have smaller videos available for those viewports.

  • CpCmndGotoFrameAndResume and HTML5

    Has anyone got the frame to rewind using the system variable and HTML 5 output ???
    For testing and demonstration purposes, I have a simple project with 2 slides, on slide 2 I have a button, which executes advanced action and assigns variable cpCmndGotoFrameAndResume with value 0. This goes back top beginning no problems in the flash version and does nothing in the html output version
    Any ideas ?
    Using Captivate 7
    Thanks

    @Rod No, Rod, didn't misunderstand you, thought I wrote I would have done the same Jump to Slide 1  as you did. But I thought that was just an example, and normally the cpCmndGotoFrameAndResume should work as well, that is why I tested it out. For HTML5-output I already detected a lot of use cases where there seems some lag, which is not occurring in SWF-output. That is why I tried the value 1 instead of 0.
    If ever this project is also meant for mobile, from my trials I learned that it has sense to limit the number of slides, and there micro navigation (and certainly shared actions, helping to reduce file size) can be a big help. And as you know, with multiple duplicate slides, navigation can be a pain, custom navigation is then a 'must'.
    @Metapod Action was indeed corrupted, I did never see that kind of corruption, strange. Mostly problems with AA are due to labeling conflicts. I wonder if that could be the case here as well.
    Agree with Rod, that multiple slides will be easier to set up, but read my comments about mobile and navigation in that situation.

  • What is the difference between SWF and F4V in the context of Streaming or progressive Download?

    Hello everybody,
    I am absolutely a beginner in working with Captivate and furthermore my technological know how is not that good.
    So, I have problems to understand if the export formats SWF and F4V are both capable to be published in the Internet as streaming video and as progressive Download? Well so, I do not really understand the difference between streaming and progessive download either?
    Furthermore I was asking myself if this issue depends on how I imported flash videos (there are these two options) in my Captivate project during the production phase?
    I would be very thankful for some helping information!
    Greetings,
    Mareike the beginner

    Welcome to our community
    I'm not certain I fully understand the differences myself, but will toss out what I believe to be true about the formats. Hopefully, if I'm incorrect in my bellief, someone with more definitive knowledge will chime in.
    It was explained to me a couple of years back and is my understanding that "streaming" only applies to a video based format such as F4V, FLV and it doesn't apply to SWF. With SWF, you may specify a preload value. So when the SWF transmits from the web server to the PC, a certain percentage has to be received before play begins. But that's not streaming. It's preloading.
    For streaming to occur, the web server establishes a communication channel between the server and the destination PC. This channel is monitored to see what speed is in use. Only enough information is then transmitted to be comfortable at that speed. If the speed improves during the connection, the server serves data at a faster rate. If the connection degrades, the information transmitted is also scaled back so as to accommodate the lower speed.
    With SWF, after it has all been downloaded, a savvy user is able to poke around in their temporary internet files and save the SWF for play later. With streaming, this isn't possible because as the stream is viewed, it evaporates from memory.
    Seriously hoping others will chime in here to confirm or deny this.
    Cheers... Rick

  • .swf And Mac OSX 10.5 Loss Of Function

    Since installing Leopard I have been unable to view
    any .swf file on the web if it has more than one segment. So far I
    have found this to be a problem on NFL.com, Packers.com and a
    number of other web sites. This is true for both my G5 and my
    MacBook.
    Here is an example of exactly what I do using Safari with a
    video clip from Packers.com and what happens.
    1. Start Safari and get normal start-up screen (Google for
    me)
    2. Go to
    http://www.packers.com/ and the
    home page appears
    3. Select a video clip and it starts to download and play as
    expected
    4. Once the “mini-commercial “ finishes the
    “screen” box goes black with the “cogwheel”
    spinning in it
    5. I have waited 20 minutes and nothing else happens
    What should happen is that the “real” video clip
    I want to view starts to download and play immediately. The results
    are the same in both Safari and Firefox.
    Here are some specifics on components in use.
    * Firefox v2.0.0.12
    * Safari v3.0.4 (5523.15)
    * Flash Player v9.0.115 for Leopard
    * QuickTime Player (NOT PRO) v7.4.1 (14)

    There are many posts here about scanners and fixes and workarounds. You can search for them.

    In general it's an Epson issue in not supporting Leopard. Be sure you have the very latest Epson software and sometimes it's necessary to uninstall and reinstall it.

    Is there a way to view Flash videos on my iMac without downloading Adobe Flash Player? I'm concerned about performance and security with Adobe Flash Player.

    If the video is only available in a format that requires Flash player : then no.
    However, a great many can also be viewed in an HTML5 version, in which case http://hoyois.github.io/safariextensions/clicktoplugin/ or similar can be set up so that Flash never runs unless you specifically choose it to.

  • Loading an external clip(swf) and removing existing one

    Hi All,
    I am tearing my hair out; I simply want a button when
    clicked, to load an external swf. But I just can't seem to get my
    head around it. Here is my code:
    butt1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, swf1);
    function swf1(evt:MouseEvent):void
    loadSwf1.load(new URLRequest("swf1.swf") );
    butt1_btn.buttonMode = true;
    Any help with this would be much appreciated!
    Kind Regards,
    Boxing Boom

    Hi,
    Sorry for late response. I used the following code, which
    loads another swf and replaces the original swf;
    computerProtection_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,
    removeMain, false, 0, true);
    var ld:Loader = new Loader();
    ld.load(new URLRequest("computerProtection.swf"))
    function removeMain(evt:MouseEvent):void {
    this.parent.addChild(ld);
    this.parent.removeChild(this);
    Now, the problem is that when I use the same code to get back
    to the original, it doesn't work. Obviously, I have changes the
    button name and the requested swf.
    I get an error stating something about the main timeline.
    Funny, how it works only once, loads a swf but won't load another
    swf file.
    I appreciate the time this issue has taken. But an answer
    would be nice!
    Kind Regards,

  • Exporting Flash(SWF) and Getting No Audio

    Hello All,
    I'm new to these boards and have only posted once previously.
    I'm recording lectures with Captivate 3 for University
    professors speaking in front of a class using power point. I have
    one Captivate project with about 570 slides. When I publish this
    project to SWF and play it in html and/or the skin player there is
    no audio.
    There is audio when I play each slide or when I preview the
    project but no audio when I publish it.
    I have audio selected as MP3 96 kbps, 44.10 KHz in the
    preferences of Publish but there's just nothing.
    Any ideas of what could be going wrong?
    Also, I'm not sure if I should post this in the Recording
    category but during some of these long recordings, part of the
    lectures end up recording blank white slides. There is audio as the
    professor is speaking and surely there's an image on the computer
    with power point but Captivate is recording pure white. Troubling.
    THANKS!

    I have the same problem here. I only have 47 slides, and
    about 12 have audio. The total size of the .cp file is 15 mb. I
    only hear audio when I am looking at the slides and press F3. None
    of the slides are muted. I have made sure that the "Include Audio"
    checkbox is checked. I do not have audio in preview mode or in the
    published swf or exe file. I am at a loss here.

  • Published swf and html file viewing issues.

    Greetings,
    I design web banners and used to, with Flash 8, sedn my
    clients the published *.html and *.swf files to download onto their
    desktops so they could view the banner. With Flash CS3 this doesn't
    seem to be working the same way. It keeps giving them the window
    that says something about "ac_runactivescript.js". How come this
    never did this with Flash 8?

    click file/publish settings/formats, make sure the swf and html boxes are selected, and click the use default names button.  then click file/publish.  are the files in your directory with your fla?
    if not, create a new directory (that has no subdirectories), save your fla to that new directory using a new name (ie, click file/save as).  then click file/publish.  check the new directory for your 3 files.

  • Can we convert .swf to HTML5 using Captivate ?

    Hi All,
    I want to know how I can convert the existing .swf files to HTML5. Can I do it using captivate ?
    If this can't be done then can i import existing flash code into captivate and then create it to HTML5 ?
    Thanks,
    Nibs

    No to your first question.  Captivate will not convert an SWF to HTML5.
    Cannot say for your second question.  It would depend what the AS3 code you imported was trying to do.  But the answer is also probably No.

  • So frustrated about swf movies not playing....any help?

    Seems to be I have a very familiar problem with a multitude of similar posters and online questions about why a .swf project file will properly embed and preview within Dreamweaver CS4 when previewing in browser but when loaded to my server the .swf only shows a blank white box (empty skin). I have trolled posted for two days looking for answers and see several posts that talk about the same issue with several different apparent solutions and several that are never resolved.
    below I will past my code in hopes that someone will see a problem and suggest a solution. please note that I have ensured that all my assets are on my server where they should be...so the `MOVIE`.swf, expressInstall.swf and swfobject_modified.js (both in a Scripts folder) are all there.  The swf previews completely fine in both DWCS4 and FlashCS4 locally, but everything falls apart when it is on the server!!!!
    Final note about my particular issue....the .swf I created in particular originates as two .flv movies controlled by button actions using actionscript 3.0 within my flash .swf.  - I have an entirely different .swf project that involves no .flv assets that works flawlessly both locally and uploaded to my server.
    DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY HELP THEY CAN OFFER....THIS IS MADNESS......I specifically bought DW for it`s supposed great integration with Flash and am finding it is a lesson in frustration and not working.

    Thanks, I think that might be the key here for me....
    When I created the .swf in Flash CS4 I imported the .flv files as "load with external playback component", which seems to reference the oringal .flv files. Moving them or renaming them locally on my computer would render the .swf non-functional for movie playback locally...so YES I certainly do need .flv files for my .swf to reference as the movies are not re-encoded into the published .swf  I do see an option to do this however so it is food for thought on if this embedded method may be better in my situation.
    The thing remaing for me to fix now seems to be how to properly reference the .flv files on the remote server when they and the properly configured .swf file are all uploaded.  I see how I can change the .flv source in the properties window within Flash but I will have to do a bit of testing to make sure that it follows a logical and working path when uploaded to my server.
    Hope that all makes sense...if anyone has any input on how best to finish this up or suggest on if I am on the right path I'd love to hear from them!
    Thanks for the help, btw.

  • Super noob questions about cs6 and air project

    Hi, I'm trying to pass a complicated game I developed few months ago with CS5.0 for desktop and I wanted to try, at least, how it worked in a android/ios simulator... but it's becoming something harder than I though.
    1) How I know if I'm developing in flash or flex? I only see "flash" or "air"; should I try with flash builder instead? is it better for games development?
    2) Why do we have the option to publish as swc if it's a mobile app? If it's IOS is supposed to created a IOS compilated file... so... swc??
    3) I'm having really bad times with all the swf and swc I had before. Seems like it doesn't read the sfw in runtime, publish them as swc and add them in the as3 project's configuration doesn't work either. Any sort of known issue?
    4) Can I ask you about tutorials or any sort of information? not about creating animations and launch them in the simulator, that's fine. About managing project and this sort of "more advanced" stuff. I don't find any sort of information anywhere!
    thank you!!!

    Sorry, I misinterpreted that part of the qustion. Yes, Colin is of course correct. Apple won't allow you to run any non-compiled code (C compiled, not AS-compiled) on IOS. So you can neither bundle a swf with the ipa nor call to a server to load a swf, if that swf contains any code whatsoever (even something as simple as a stop() action or a linkage identifier).
    What you can do is embed a swf into your project, or link to your swc and use its assets in that way. This results in a single swf that gets compiled into your ipa, thus satisfying Apple's requirement.
    Oh, and a little more on #1: You asked if you should use Flash Builder, and if it's better for games development. The answer is: "it depends". Most every "serious" dev I know develops in some sort of dedicated coding environment: FB, FDT (this is what I use principally), IntelliJ, FlashDevelop, emacs, etc. That said, I worked quite successfully in Flash for many years and its coding tools are adequate (arguably). If you start building large systems, though, you will probably rapidly get tired of the limited toolset and want to graduate to something with a bit more firepower.
    <edit>
    BTW...I'm talking about my experience, not passing judgement. Anyone who considers themselves a serious dev and yet codes in the Flash IDE, I respect your preference. If you consider yourself a serious dev and haven't *tried* working in another environment, I still respect you; but I also suggest you look at the advantages of other work environments.

  • Loading multiple SWFs and storing them (code not working under Firefox 23 and Chrome)

    Hey guys,
    Anyone has any idea why this code suddenly don't work anymore? (It works under internet explorer but not firefox and chrome
    The code under is placed on my main swf to preload all my external swfs and store them for not having to wait too long to access them.
    Thx guys.
    I took the code from here btw: http://www.beautifycode.com/the-finer-art-of-loading-2-handling-multiple-swfs#snippet
    I'm running flash player 11.8.800.94... It used to work under Firefox and Chrome
    var _swfLoader:Loader;
    var _swfRequest:URLRequest;
    var _swfPathArr:Array = new Array("00.swf", "01.swf", "02.swf");
    var _swfClipsArr:Array = new Array();
    var _swfTempClip:MovieClip;
    var _loadedSWFs:int;
    startLoading(_swfPathArr);
    function startLoading(pathArr:Array):void {
    _swfLoader = new Loader();
    _swfRequest = new URLRequest();
    loadSWF(pathArr[1]);
    function loadSWF(path:String):void {
    setupListeners(_swfLoader.contentLoaderInfo);
    _swfRequest.url = path;
    _swfLoader.load(_swfRequest);
    function setupListeners(dispatcher:IEventDispatcher):void {
    dispatcher.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onSwfComplete);
    function onSwfComplete(event:Event):void {
    event.target.removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onSwfComplete);
    _swfTempClip = event.target.content;
    _swfTempClip.customID = _loadedSWFs;
    _swfClipsArr.push(_swfTempClip);
    if(_loadedSWFs <_swfPathArr.length - 1) {
    _loadedSWFs++;
    loadSWF(_swfPathArr[_loadedSWFs]);
    } else {

    Hi kglad,
    The problem was coming from my server.
    I recently played with some settings  from a "cache control tool" offered by my hosting but i thought i had it back at default. Turns out i must've missed something. Now i have the .html caching on and everything works good on all browser.
    I have another question tho...
    I'd like to know if there's a way to cache an html file without having to ask my hoster to cache all of my htmls...
    I'm using this code now but maybe there's a way to add something that will cache this page specifically?
