About tabular forms

Hi
I have created a tabular form with wizards.
Now, there are check boxes on the left of each box.
Now i want that the fields whose correspoonding check box is clicked
should only be updated.
But over here even if the record is not selected (i.e. check box is not clicked),
still it gets updated.
Please reply, its urgent.
Ameya.

The point behind using a tabular form (especially the wizard generated one) is that you get a quick way to update any of the displayed rows. The row selector checkboxes are used by the MRD (multi row delete) process to delete those rows.
If you want to update the checked rows, you would need to write your own After Submit process to do that. View the source of the generated page to find out what g_fNN array the checkboxes are stored in. Write a after-submit process to do
for i in 1..htmldb_application.g_f01.count loop
update tab set ...
where pk=htmldb_application.g_f01(i);
end loop;

• Simple question about tabular forms: error in MRU

hi to all,
i write here to check if what i think about tabular forms is confirmed.
If i build a master- detail or tabular form and the underlying table are modified, the page where the tabulare form is contained doesn't work anymore.
if what i've written above is correct, is there a way to realign the fields of the tabular forms to the db fields and make my page work again without rebuilding all?
Can i modify something, somewhere inside apex to make my page run again?
The error i get (in italian / english)
Error in mru internal routine: ORA-20001: Errore in MRU: riga= 0, ORA-20001: ORA-20001: La versione corrente dei dati nel database è cambiata da quando l'utente ha iniziato il processo di aggiornamento. checksum corrente = "ED73B05FA6016F8D5F3B4B5B69AF482D", checksum elementi = "CFD72DCC4221A340057D654B54EA7A04"., update "NEWPROJ"."CNT_VAL_SEG_DEMO" set "ID" = :b1, "FK_CNT" = :b2
Means: The version of data in db (fields of the tables?) has changed since the user started the update process.
By the way this sentence under my opinion can trick you as
in italian 'La versione corrente dei dati nel database'
can means both that data contained in tables have changed (dml error / process error / data the user see not are the real underlying data). Can mean as well the field definition is changed, however a more meaningful message in italian is: ' la definizione delle tabelle usate dall'oggetto tabular form é cambiata'.
That translated in english is ' DDL of table/s used by tabular form has changed'.
thanx a lot

HI Heinz,
yes is now clear, however is a pity that a litte change in the query has a lot of
implications: a change in the structure of DB means new feature / the data model is not alligned with current requirement. So usually (but not always) it means changing the SELECT as well.
Such Apex is a Rad an impression is that if you build a complex forms with several linked reports / field and one day you have to change the query of the TABULAR FORM / MASTER DETAIL generated with report you get a lot of rebuilding.
I think i will avoid the use of this 2 object in the future and use more htmldb.items in the select.
bye bye

• Tabular form on table with no p.k

hi all
the question i'm about to ask is basic question on creating table , and as a result of that about tabular form
i have table like this
IND NUMBER(2)
COMPANY NUMBER(5)
CLM_NUM NUMBER(15)
VERSION_NUM NUMBER(2)
DATE_GET NUMBER(8)
CAR_NUMBER VARCHAR2(7)
MISS_EXPL VARCHAR2(50)
there can be more than one row with the same data. that's why i cannot do a primary key in this table.
i want to create a tabular form on this table.
the question is as follow:
1.general question not related to tabular form.
if there is table like in my case,which i cannot see that p.k can create with the columns that i have ,do i have to add column lets say : ID which contain consistent numbers
which will be the p.k ? , or is it o.k to leave the table with no p.k.
i know that in apex 1.6 is not giving an option to create table if i'm not declare a p.k , while in 3.1 it give an
option to create with no p.k
2. second question is : if i'm not doing a primary key is it possible to create a tabular form.
i know that the tabular form ask for a p.k but i did not understand if it want the specific p.k of the table.
3. if it possible(to create tabular on table not declare with tabular form) can i have a problem in the tabular form to recognize the record(row) which need to delete or update?
4. last question: again general question about creating table
is it by the accepted to create table which has no p.k but unique constraint like this
create unique constraint IND ,COMPANY,CLM_NUM,VERSION_NUM ,DATE_GET,CAR_NUMBER?
thanks for quick response!

Hi Naama,
Firstly, a primary key does not necessarily have anything to do with the data on the table. In most of my tables, it is just a sequential value created from a sequence and set by a trigger. In some cases, I do have non-numeric primary keys, but these are simple text fields that can never contain duplicates (for example, country codes) and which the user can not alter.
So, I would strongly recommend that you create a primary key on your tables.
Secondly, yes, you can create unique constraints on those fields. But note that Apex will not allow you to use that many fields as a "primary key" on any form.
If you have records with the same values in all fields, without a primary key, Apex would not know which record was being updated.

• Question about manual tabular forms

Hello. I have a manual tabular form which has a some select_list_from_query items, text_from_lov_query, hidden, etc. I have not found a way to have one of the select lists based on one of the hidden items. Is it possible for the select list query to use other items from the form's select statement? In the code sample below I would like group_number to be based on the board_group_type_id.

LTaura wrote:
what does the built-in tabular form and break functionality do ?The built-in tabular form wizard generates the tabular form report and ApplyMRU and ApplyMRD processes to handle the submitted form.
The report renders the retrieved data values as HTML form controls to enable them to be edited by the user. The DEPTNO in from the first row in your query is rendered thus:
<input type="text" name="f01" size="16" maxlength="2000" value="10" id="f01_0001" autocomplete="off">and that in the second row as:
<input type="text" name="f01" size="16" maxlength="2000" value="10" id="f01_0002" autocomplete="off">Since these are not exactly the same (different id attributes), the built-in break formatting sees them as different values, so no report break is applied.
However, even if this was not the case and the break was applied to give only 3 text items for the 3 DEPTNO values, the ApplyMRU and ApplyMRD processes expect a DEPTNO value to be submitted for each row, and would fail for the subordinate EMP rows where it was missing.

• Refresh page but SAVE USER INPUT in tabular form WITHOUT UPDATE

Hi,
When there is a tabular form in the page and user refreshes it (in anyway) tabular form's elements are always computed with values from the table in db. Can we somehow save user input in fields so that after refreshing page user will see what he/she has typed but not submitted to db?
Regards,
Tom

Hello Andy,
Let me introduce you to the problem.
There is a tabular form based on a source table. User modifies the data and after he/she clicks Submit button the validation procedure is being run before MRU. If the result of validation is positive then MRU is run otherwise data should not be submitted to db and user should be informed about the result. Moreover, he/she should see the invalid data in fields. Not the correct one from db.
Is there any way to save a session state of these fields or of a whole tabular form? I cannot save the data in other table in db.
User cannot click 'Add row' several times in my app because after he clicks it once then the button disappears and appears again only when he/she clicks 'Submit' first (so after validation procedure).
Maybe there is some way to store fields' values in memory and then compute the form when page is loading again?
Imagine the situation that there are 100 rows in tabular form and user modifies it for one hour, clicks Submit, validation result is negative and his/her whole one hour work is lost, because the form has been refreshed according to what is stored in db. Such situation should never occur.

Tom

• ORA-06502 on "Help Text" region when changing pages on a tabular form

Hello everybody,
We are developing an application on Apex 4.1.0.00.32. This application have some pages with tabular forms and these pages uses a page zero as template. In this page zero, we have added two sidebar regions: a list region to navigate on the application and a help text to describe how to use our application.
The problem occurs when the tabular split the records into pages (since it has more records that it can show on a single page). When the user clicks to change to another page, Apex raises an ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error as described below:

We have tried to change the pagination style of the tabular form and change the region model of the help text but the problem still happens.
Does anyone an ideia about what this may be?
Thanks in advance!

• Custom error message in a tabular form

Hello,
I try to implement a solution for a custom error message in a tabular form.
My intention is, that a error message about a foreign key constraint violation should told the end user what happens in a friendly way.
So I try to implement my own delete-process, where I can catch the exception and display my own error message.
In the process I use the following code to delete the selected row:
begin
for i in 1..apex_application.g_f01.count loop
delete from d_cmp_campaign
where campaign_id = apex_application.g_f02(i);
end loop;
end;
And this is the select of the tabular form:
select
"CAMPAIGN_ID",
"CAMPAIGN_ID" CAMPAIGN_ID_DISPLAY,
"NAME",
"CAMPAIGN_NO",
"DWH_DEF_TIME",
"DWH_DEF_USER"
from "#OWNER#"."D_CMP_CAMPAIGN"
The problem is, that the first row is deleted always, whatever row is selected.
Can anyone help me with that issue?
Thank you,
Tim

Every checkbox has a value which is the corresponding row. You got to get the row number
first and based on that you select the record. For example, if you click the rows 1 and 5,
you first need to know which rows are selected. Then, you would loop twice and get the
first and the fifth array values.

• Tabular Form: Conditional column based on another column in table/form?

Hi!
I have 4 columns in table A:
number (the question number)
question (the question to be asked)
type (TEXT, LOV are the 2 valid values)
answer (the answer with text or a selection from the lov table below)
I have 2 columns in table B:
number (the question number)
values (a single value for the lov's)
In table B there can be mutiple rows for each number. Table A and table B
join on the number.
I want to build a tablular form on table A where for each row either a text
box or a select list is displayed depending on the contents of the type column.
So row 1 would display a text box when the type value is text; row 2 would
display a select list when the type value is lov.
Is this even possible? How do I refer to the type column in the conditional for the
answer column? I am guessing that I will need to have 2 answer columns one
that displays when the type column is TEXT and one that displays when the
type column contains LOV. This is OK. Setting up the conditional is display is the issue at this point.
Hopefully I have explained this well enough! :)
Thanks!
Dave Venus

Hi Dave,
Sorry for not responding sooner - I finish work at 3pm GMT.
I'll take your first question first (3:28PM posting according to my display - not sure if you are on GMT time?):
As far as I understand it, using the select_list_from_query() function generates the options that are required in the select list as HTML tags. Each instance of this function should create a SELECT tag and the results of the query should generate one or more OPTION tags within it.
Second question (4:20PM posting):
The HTMLDB_ITEM functions are listed in the documentation - here's a link to the online version:
http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14303/api.htm#sthref2524
Most of the examples that I have seen have been on this forum - simply search for HTMLDB_ITEM or one of its functions.
I tend to leave the generation of tabular forms to the wizard as much as possible. The only exceptions are when I need to have access to more than the Primary Key for a row but don't want to show the field on screen. There are examples on the forum about concatenating the HTMLDB_ITEM functions into a single value - this hides ID fields from the user but makes them available to PL/SQL code.
Third question (5:29PM posting)
I did try using DECODE in my questionnaire but not for the feature that you needed. Originally, I wanted to use this to display one of a number of different fields (ie, my date, number or string field as appropriate to the question) but this didn't help as I couldn't get back to the right field during the update. If you have decode working for the select lists, then that's great!
The first column should be hidden or sitting behind a checkbox as this should be the Primary Key for the row and should not be editable by the user nor would it normally be displayed.
As long as your select statement creates the correct output (albeit that you may need to work on the layout!), you should have an updatable form. However, you will need to have the MRU processes in place and the appropriate buttons that trigger these. When I did my questionnaire, I created the form using a wizard to get all of the processes and buttons and then changed the select statement. If you haven't got the processes and/or buttons, we can go through adding these onto your page.
Last question (9:08PM posting)
As explained above, column 1 should normally be hidden. The INPUT tag you detail above is what I would expect to see. The value="6" attribute indicates that 6 is the Primary Key for that row - every row will have the same tag but different values for the "value" attribute. So, if it is hidden and these are the tags you see doing a View Source on the page, then everything is correct.
OK. So now we have the data on screen and (hopefully?) we have the correct processes and buttons on the page.
The next step would be validation and update of the data.
Validation of the data can be handled by a normal page process - I can let you have example code if you want to validate the data (this will also explain how to loop through the rows - there are also methods that you can use to do this in javascript if you want). Updates should be handled by the processes and buttons on the page - again, if you haven't got these we can go through adding them in (although, if you haven't yet formatted your page, you may find it quicker to copy your select statement and create the page again using the same select statement).
ORA-20001 errors are user defined errors. Do you mean the "data has changed" errors? If so, you will probably need to include the MD5 checksum functionality (it's shown in the document linked above).
Finally, we'll keep this thread going so that you have all of your workings and my responses in one place, if that's ok with you?
Regards
Andy

• Null Validation in Tabular Form in APEX 4.2.2

Hi to all respected Gurus of this Forum!
Recently downloaded APEX 4.2.2. As we know that this version has some improved features and one is the best is i.e. *"Validation on Tabular Form".*
For test purpose I succeeded to apply validation on field of tabular form and I am not allowed to "SUBMIT" data as per Validation Rule.
But now, I want to customize that validation as per below logic.
If required field is null than a message-box should appear with two buttons , as under:
Blank field not allowed. Do you really want to submit? (Buttons should be = YES NO)
If user press "YES" then validation should be false and record should be saved
AND
If user press "NO" then no data should be submitted/inserted as per validation logic.
Please help. Your as usual cooperation is highly appreciated in advance.

Hello Sabine,
>> I read about enhanced validation in 4.1 and would love to get rid of g_f-programming.
The major “trick” is to associate the validation/process with a Tabular Form. On the first screen of both wizards, the first field is Tabular Form. You must select the tabular form on your page (currently there can be only one. In future versions this will change).
Another factor that might influence the behavior of Tabular Form validation/process is the new attribute of Execution Scope. Unfortunately, you must enter Edit mode to gain access to this attribute (i.e., it can’t be set directly from the Tabular Form create wizard). Set it according to your need.
The rest is very simple. You should treat your Tabular Form as a simple form, where every column header stands for a form item. The following is a very simple example of validating the SAL column:
if :SAL < 1500 then
return 'Sal Value is under 1500';
else
return null;
end if;In this validation I’m using the Function Returning Error Text type.

Arie.

• Color in textboxes or around textboxes in tabular form

I've got a tabular form with 12 columns of textboxes. Some of these columns are logically related so I'd like to sort of group them together a bit (the ones that are related). I was thinking about using a background color in the cells so that for example column 1-3 will have one color visible around the textbox that is displayed in the cell and column 4-5 would have another...
I've tried setting CSS STYLE under COLUMN FORMATTING to 'background-color:#CC9999;'
But that only seems to work if the cell contains text and then only the background immediately behind the text is colored, not the background of the entire cell (i think).
Is it that the textboxes take up the entire cell so that no color is visible?
If so, I'd appreciate suggestions for simple solutions... color in the textboxes? Some kind of frame around a few columns???
Thanx
Andreas

I'd suggest creating a [custom named column template|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14373_01/appdev.32/e11838/themes.htm#BABFFGGJ] for the tabular form report, with logically related columns assigned to [column groups|http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/REC-html401-19991224/struct/tables.html#h-11.2.4]. When the containing table is [marked up|http://joeclark.org/book/sashay/serialization/Chapter10.html#h5-2695] in this way CSS can be used to apply colour and some other properties to the column groups/columns. It also keeps the page weight down as classes or styles don't have to be applied to every table cell.
>
But that only seems to work if the cell contains text and then only the background immediately behind the text is colored, not the background of the entire cell (i think).
Is it that the textboxes take up the entire cell so that no color is visible?
>
This is a longstanding shortcoming of APEX, in that "Column Formatting" is nothing of the kind: these properties are applied to a <span> wrapped round the content rather than to the containing element (most obvious when that element is a table cell).

Hi!
Is there any way to show notice in tabular form if value entered is not in some range?
eg. I click on button add row, and then I fill out values and if one value is not within a certain range then in last column (this column is not included in table) is notice out of range or something else. I know that this can be achieved with validations but this must be just notice, not some restriction. Values I wrote must be inserted into table.
I hope you understand me. I use Apex 4.1 and 11g Oracle database.

Sure you can. If you edit your page attributes you have a field javascript on load. Here you can enter code that does checks or actions depending of user events. Example in the case of a tabular form:
$('input[name=f01]').live('change', function(){
if($(this).val()=='1'){
alert('value is 1');}
This will give an alert if you change the item in the first column to 1.

Do you still have the Apply MRU process running? I assume you do because otherwise you wouldn't receive the error message. Is the process you are talking about running before the Apply MRU process? It seems it does. Try chaning the execution sequence and run this process after the automatic MRU process.

• Ora -20001 error coming while updating from a tabular form

Hi
I have a tabular form , which updates a table in the database.
Whenever I update the record first time I getting an error as
Error in MRU internal routine ORA-20001.Error in MRU:row=1,
ORA-1403 no_data_found, update abc.sale_forcast_temp set "PK_ID"=:b1,"W27"=:b2
Error unable to update process
But when I press Ok return to the form and then again try to update , records gets successfully updated
Regards
Shashi

Kamal,
This will be the pseudocode.
Procedure A()
select * from EMP bulk collect into records_array; --Of type RECORD_ARRAY
batch_count = (records_array.length) / batch_size;
--batch_size is say 5000 rows and batch_count is the number of batches
for i in 1..(batch_count+1)
B( records_array);
C();
commit;
Procedure B(records_array in RECORD_ARRAY )
INSERT /*+PARALLEL(EMP_DUMMY, 2) */
INTO TABLE EMP_DUMMY
SELECT * from TABLE(CAST(records_array as RECORD_ARRAY) ;
Procedure C()
Other operations which include reads on the EMP_DUMMY table;
This is the top view of how it looks like. Actually the Select statement for the insert statement is very complex and I do a join on the records that are being passed in by casting it into a table. This query is taking about 40 minutes for 10,000 rows in the records_array. I need to parellelise this query because each row of the records_array yields a different row for the EMP_DUMMY table.
I hope that I made it clear for you.
Can you also tell me if procedure C in which I shall be doing a read on the EMP_DUMMY table, has any affect of the parallel insert
Thanks for your help.

• Tabular form condition type value of item / column in expression 1

Hi
Question 1
I was wondering if anyone can help with the necessary syntax so that I can set a Condition Type for a column in a Tabular Form.
What I'm trying to do is show or hide a column based on the contents of another column in the same row for instance show column DETAIL or DETAIL_READ_ONLY if column READ_ONLY is set to 'Y'
Value of item / column in expression 1 = #READ_ONLY# or READ_ONLY (alas neither works)
Expression 2 = Y
I can set all the DETAIL or DETAIL_READ_ONLY columns to either hide or show at the same time by
Value of item / column in expression 1 = P100_READ_ONLY (works well but lacks granularity)
Expression 2 = Y
Question 2
Are Tabular Forms such that all fuctionality has to be global, what effects one column must be the same for all
I know that Oracle prefers that developers don't use tabular forms but they are usefull for data visability when setting up related data in the same table.
e.g. surveys, questionnaires etc apps the web was made for
Thanks
Derek

Hi Sandro
Thanks for replying
The problem I have is Tabular Forms
Detail Text Detail Read Only Read only
Event 1a Event 1b Y
Event 2a Event 2b N
Event 3a Event 3b Y
What I want it to look like is
Detail Text Detail Read Only Read only
___________Event 1b__________ Y
Event 2a_____________________ N
___________Event 3b__________ Y
This would mean that the Text Field containing Event 2 could be updated but the Display Only fields containing Event 1 and Event 3 cannot be changed.
The trick is to be able to mix and match data types for the same data because Tabular Forms columns don't have a conditional read only choice.
Sorry about the rudimentary diagram, but its the old 80 / 20 rule =>20 percent functional
