Abrupt shutdown of master node causes problem

A service in usmbcom1 (LMID ) makes tpacall to a service which is
present in
both usmbapp1 ( master node LMID ) and usmbapp2 ( slave node LMID
) ( HERE
usmbcom1 , usmbapp1 and usmbapp2 are LMIDs whereas the
corresponding physical m/cs unames are usmbd5 , usmbd3 and usmbd4
They are separate sun boxes) . LDBAL = Y and tpacall is done at
25 / sec.
Now there are 2 scenarios.
1. While tpacall is in progress we kill the servers in usmbapp1
using
kill command ( not kill -9) . Then clean up the ipcs. Only
few ( 3-5 out of a
total of 5000 ) messages were lost . This is understandable since
messages
which were already in the queue got lost). The rest of the messages
were
processes by usmbapp2.
2. In this case we switched off the sun box usmbapp1 ( m/c name
usmbd3)
while tpacall was in progress. This time we lost approx 50% of
the
messages. However if we go to the slave m/c i.e usmbapp2 and manually
make it master ( tmadmin ... master) ., then from that point of
time we stopped
losing messages.
Does that mean manual intervention is necessary if DBBL goes
down? Is there anything which I am missing out while configuring
the system?

Hi Scott,
You did understand the scenario and the problems.
The answers are quite convincing.
Actually the QA team here are doing failover testing
and they have both these ( kill and m/c shutdown)
as their test cases.
However I would like to know about what you meant
by High Availability Solutions.
Do you also mean that if I shutdown my master m/c
then no event would be written in the ULOG of slave,
which can be monitored and used to convert the slave
into master programatically ( I mean thru tpadmcall)
Thanks

Hi,
I'm not sure if I completely comprehend your situation,
but let me take
a guess.
When you killed the processes (including the Bridge),
which by the way
is a bad thing to do to TUXEDO, TCP notified the other
connected nodes
that the connection had dropped. This happens fairly quickly.
But if you just turn off a machine, TCP may not detect
it until it times
out, which can take several minutes. Since TUXEDO was
doing Round Robin
load balancing, half the requests were sent to the Bridge,
with a
destination of the dead machine.
To answer your final question, the DBBL has to be migrated
manually,
unless you are using one of our High Availability solutions
that uses an
external monitor.
The reason is that it is very hard to distinguish between
a network
failure or slowdown, and a real failure of the Master
node. And it would
be very bad to have two machines in the domain acting
as the Master.

    Do I use same oracle account on 2 cluster nodes cause problem?
    If I use same oracle account on 2 cluster nodes running 2 database, when failover happens, 2 database will be running on one node, does 2 oracle account make SHM ... memory conflict?
    or do I have to use oracle01 account on node1, oracle02 account on node2? Can not use same name account?
    Thanks.

    I'm not 100% certain I understood the question, so I'll rephrase them and answer them.
    Q. If I have the same Oracle account on each cluster node, e.g. uid=100 (oracle) gid=100 (oinstall), groups dba=200, can I run two databases, one on each cluster node without problems?
    A. Yes. Having multiple DBs on one node is not a problem and doesn't cause shared memory problems. Obviously each database needs a different database name and thus different SID.
    Q. Can I have two different Oracle accounts on each cluster node e.g. uid=100 (oraclea) gid=100 (oinstall), groups dba=200 and e.g. uid=300 (oracleb) gid=100 (oinstall), groups dba=200, and run two databases, one for each Oracle user?
    A. Yes. The different Oracle user names would need to be associated with different Oracle installations, i.e. Oracle HOMEs. So you might have /oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1 (oraclea) and /oracle/oracle/product/11.0.1.0/db_1 (oracleb). The ORACLE_HOME is then used to determine the Oracle user name by checking the user of the Oracle binary in the ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin directory.

  • What is causing a PowerMac G5/2.3GHz Dual Processor sudden abrupt shutdowns

    Hi all
    I am posting in hope that someone out there can help me solve this very puzzling problem.
    The machine: A PowerMac dual processor G5/2.3GHz (early 2005). 1.5G RAM. 250G HD. SuperDrive. Radeon 9650.
    The problem: When under some load, this machine will suddenly and abruptly shutdown as though someone pulled the power cord. There is no warning. Just a soft click, and it powers off. The machine can be manually restarted after the sudden shutdown with no problems.
    This problem is very replicable. (eg go to a particular website, play an embedded video, and boom, the machine shutsdown. Each and every time.) It was replicated at an Apple Store and at two Apple Authorized Service Providers.
    System.log said "PMU forced shutdown, cause = -122"
    Before the sudden shutdown, the machine seemed to be operating normally. The fans did not noticeably speed up. Activity Monitor showed no more than 50% CPU activity for each CPU. Temperature on both CPU was around at 70C before the sudden shutdown. Temperature and activity on both CPU goes up and down in tendem.
    If I use the Energy Saver system preference to change "Processor performance" to "Reduced", the problem goes away. (As measured by going to the same website and playing the same video. Even playing 5 videos simultaneously did not cause a sudden shutdown.)
    What have I done #1: I have reformat the hard drive with a 7-pass security wipe, followed by a clean-install of Tiger which was then brought up-to-date using Software Update. I then installed Safari 4.0.3. No other software is on the machine except Tiger and Safari. (Later installed Hardware Monitor to get me a handle on the temperatures.) The problem persisted.
    What have I done #2: I then installed a new PRAM battery and reset PMU using the switch on the motherboard. Resetting the PMU also resetted the PRAM. The problem persisted.
    What have I done #3: I then took the machine to an Apple Store. They found that they can replicate the problem easily. But, after 3 days of running the Apple Service Diagnostic, the diagnostic software didn't find any problem. They also did a thermal re-calibration. That didn't help either. Without an error code from the diagnostic software, the only "solution" the Apple Genius offered was to start swapping CPU, power supply and mother board at my expense. And even then, he has no idea which component to start swapping first. (Two independent Apple Authorized Service Providers offered the same non-diagnosis and roughly the same "solution".)
    Has anyone encountered such a problem before? What was the solution?
    How about an educated guess as to what's wrong?
    I want to, if possible, and if reasonable, repair this machine.
    Thanks in advance.
    Lara

    This sounds almost exactly like the problem I have. My G5 is also an Early 05 2.3G. I tried every tip I found on the forums from UPS vs. wall socket to stock RAM vs. 3rd party to booting from external HDs, etc.. I currently have 10.5.8 on it and it's running using the "Reduced" processor setting in Energy Saver prefs.
    I have also made a trip to The Apple Store where the AS folks ran their diagnostics but were usable to replicate my problem. I understand they "can't fix it if it ain't broke".
    Aside from the "Reduced" setting work-around has ANYONE actually solved this problem definitively? Although I have no interest in spending $1000 to fix this, I can't imagine disposing of it on Ebay.
    Assuming this is a hardware issue, this would mark the first insurmountable failure of any of the 10 or so Macs I have owned.
    Anyone? Anyone?

    This is a NSS problem (likely caused by eDir not running correctly at the time the server started up).
    The easiest way to fix this is to reboot the node and check NSS with this command "nss /pools". If the command fails, you can further check eDir status with this command "ndsstat".
    If reboot comes back good, you don't need to do anything. If it doesn't, please contact NTS.

  • JTree + FK with same value causing problems

    Hi
    I can't figure this out. If I create biz components for 2 tables having a parent-child relationship and a jTree with appropriate rules, things are ok only if the parent's id are of different values than the child. When parent.id and child.id have the same values the jTree seems to recursively fire valueChanged() at strange times.
    Example:
    CREATE TABLE PARENT
    PARENT_ID NUMBER CONSTRAINT PARENT_ID_NN NOT NULL,
    PARENT_NAME VARCHAR2(40 BYTE),
    CONSTRAINT PARENT_C_ID_PK
    PRIMARY KEY
    (PARENT_ID)
    CREATE TABLE CHILD
    CHILD_ID NUMBER CONSTRAINT CHILD_ID_NN NOT NULL,
    CHILD_NAME VARCHAR2(40 BYTE),
    PARENT_ID NUMBER,
    CONSTRAINT CHILD_C_ID_PK
    PRIMARY KEY
    (CHILD_ID)
    ALTER TABLE CHILD ADD (
    CONSTRAINT PARENT_FK
    FOREIGN KEY (PARENT_ID)
    REFERENCES PARENT (PARENT_ID));
    INSERT INTO PARENT VALUES (1, 'Parent 1');
    INSERT INTO PARENT VALUES (2, 'Parent 2');
    INSERT INTO PARENT VALUES (3, 'Parent 3');
    INSERT INTO CHILD VALUES (100, 'Child A', 1);
    INSERT INTO CHILD VALUES (200, 'Child B', 2);
    INSERT INTO CHILD VALUES (300, 'Child C', 3);
    I use the JDev 10.1.2 wizard to create biz components and test the AppMod to make sure the link works. Now I create a blank panel and drag over the ParentView data control. Using the jTree tree binding editor I create two rules:
    1) DataCollectionDef.ParentView - DisplayAttribute.ParentName - BranchRuleAccessor.ChildView
    2) DataCollectionDef.ChildView - DisplayAttribute.ChildName
    Now I add a tree selection listener:
    jTree1.addTreeSelectionListener(new TreeSelectionListener()
    public void valueChanged(TreeSelectionEvent e)
    DefaultMutableTreeNode selectedNode = (DefaultMutableTreeNode)jTree1.getLastSelectedPathComponent();
    if (selectedNode != null)
    System.out.println(selectedNode.getUserObject().toString());
    When I run my panel and watch in JDev everything is fine, i.e. nothing is printed to the screen when it first loads and when I click a node, the correct UserObject prints.
    Here's the rub, now I close the panel and update my child table as follows:
    UPDATE pdssuser.child SET child_id = 1 WHERE child_id = 100;
    UPDATE pdssuser.child SET child_id = 2 WHERE child_id = 200;
    UPDATE pdssuser.child SET child_id = 3 WHERE child_id = 300;
    This time, when I run my panel, the console shows that valueChanged() has been fired 3 times on load:
    Parent 1
    Parent 2
    Parent 3
    This behavior is causing problems with my real tree.
    I haven't had any luck finding threads about this. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    John

    ok, last one (i hope)
    The same issue occurs with 10.1.2.1
    ...but changing the location where I add the treeSelectionListener to after setBindingContext() seems to fix the problem.
    The second call to panelBinding.refreshControl() in setBindingContext() (the one after the call to jbinit()) is what fires the valueChanged events. Somewhere in there, DCBindingContainer.java or DCIteratorBinding.java, the treeSelectionListener is hearing that a value changed (maybe due to a query execution?). I guess the jTree1.setModel(...) call in jbinit() simply sets up the tree but the VO queries described in the Branch Rule accessors are executed on the refreshControl.....i'm out of my comfort zone here and may be confusing you with my "troubleshooting" so I'll just tell you my work-around.
    So to fix it I add the treeSelectionListener in my main method (not jbinit()) after the setBindingContext() has been called.
    I still have no idea why the FK triggers this behavior...but at least it's working.
    * the main method
    public static void main(String [] args)
    try
    UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName());
    catch(Exception exemp)
    exemp.printStackTrace();
    Panel1 panel = new Panel1();
    panel.setBindingContext(JUTestFrame.startTestFrame("DataBindings.cpx", "null", panel, panel.getPanelBinding(), new Dimension(400, 300)));
    panel.revalidate();
    // Now add the treeSelectionListener
    panel.addSelectionListener();
    * the JbInit method
    public void jbInit() throws Exception
    this.setLayout(borderLayout1);
    this.add(jTree1, BorderLayout.CENTER);
    jTree1.setModel((TreeModel)panelBinding.bindUIControl("ParentView1", jTree1));
    // DON'T ADD treeSelectionListener here
    * Add the selection listener to the tree
    public void addSelectionListener()
    jTree1.addTreeSelectionListener(new TreeSelectionListener()
    public void valueChanged(TreeSelectionEvent e)
    DefaultMutableTreeNode selectedNode = (DefaultMutableTreeNode)jTree1.getLastSelectedPathComponent();
    if (selectedNode != null)
    System.out.println(selectedNode.getUserObject().toString());
    }

  • TUXEDO11 in MP mode can't boot TMS_ORA on the non-master node

    I have my Tuxedo 11 installed on Ubuntu9.10 server as the master node (SITE1) and on CentOS6.2 as the non-master node (SITE2). The client program is using WSL to communicate with the servers. Tuxedo 11 has no patch, and both Tuxedo11 and Oracle10gR2 are 32 bits running on 32 bits OS.
    On both node a TMS_ORA associated with an ORACLE 10gR2 database was installed. When I issue "tmboot -y", the servers on the master node booted normally, however, the TMS_ORA server and server that using TMS_ORA on SITE2 reported "Assume started (pipe). ". There is no core file for these servers on SITE2 and in ULOG on SITE2 there is no Error or Warning concerning the failure starting of TMS_ORA.
    In order to check my servers and TMS_ORA works OK on SITE2, I used the master command under tmadmin to first swap the master and non-master node, and after the migration is successful, on SITE2 I issued "tmshutdown -cy" command then "tmboot -y" command. Surprisingly, all the servers booted correctly on both nodes. Then I migrate the master node back to SITE1 and the servers are still there alive and my client program can successfully call these servers which means the TMS_ORA and server using TMS_ORA on both nodes works fine.
    The problem is, when I "tmshutdown -s server" (those on SITE2, either TMS_ORA or server using TMS_ORA), then using "tmboot -s server" to boot them (those on SITE2, either TMS_ORA or server using TMS_ORA) I got "Assume started (pipe). " reported and those server process didn't appear on SITE2.
    It seems that I can't boot TMS_ORA on SITE2 from the master node SITE1 but can boot all the servers correctly if SITE2 are acting as the master node. Server that don't use TMS_ORA on SITE2 can be booted successfully from SITE1.
    Can anybody figure out what's wrong? Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Orlando

  • Master node down

    Dear DBAs,
    for a maintenance reason we had to shutdown the 3 cluster servers (Windows 2003-64bit).
    after starting up the master node (the others still down) the windows stuck on the "Applying profile", however if we disconnect this server from the network the server starts.
    we noticed that after reconnecting the server to the network, it takes long time to discover the storage disks.
    we are planning to move to another master node.
    could you please send me a link with the step-by-step on how to move to a new master node.
    the database is Oracle 10g v. 10.2.0.4.0
    OS: windows 2003-64 bit
    your quick reply is highly appreciated.
    Regards
    Elie

    we noticed that after reconnecting the server to the network, it takes long time to discover the storage disks.I am not sure that doing so would decrease the time. You need to check with your n/w guys and storage guys that why its taking time since the same will happen with the new node as well.
    we are planning to move to another master node.You need to take a backup of this db and then move it to the new host . Once done, you would need to add nodes to that node . But as said above, find the reason first why you are experiencing slow connectivity?

  • Master /Detail create problem

    hi,everyone:
    Firstly to say sorry for my bad English.
    Now I have a question:
    I'm working in JDeveloper 10.1.3 .The model layer is SessionEJB /Toplink ,and the view layer is JSF. I have a data structure :
    HrUnit : Master
    HrHuman : detail
    HrKnowledge : detail
    the <HrHuman>'s PRIMARYKEY is <ID>,and the <HrKnowledge>'s FOREIGN KEY is <RYID>.
    and I want to make a page to insert a new row on <HrKnowledge>. I drag the <hrKnowledgeCollectionIterator> into the page as <ADF Creation Form>, the page run fine.
    next step, I make <persistEntity> binding to the <submit button> and the parameters(entity) is
    ${bindings.hrKnowledgeCollectionIterator.currentRow.dataProvider}.
    when i run the page , i get a wrong . i get the SQL in the <Unit of work > is
    "INSERT INTO HrUnit ....."
    i create a direct mapping for the detail's foreginkey in toplink,and when i "rebuild" the map ,it gives me a warning. This warning affect my custom code in EJB,it can't work correctly. So i can't use this way in my question.
    Re: Master /Detail  create problem
    I beg your help.
    Thanks. and very very thanks.

    Hi,
    I am not an expert in TopLink, but it appears to me that the TopLink model is causes your problems not ADF. There is a TopLink forum here on OTN that could give you a helping hand on this issue.
    The following tutorial explains the use of TopLink in ADF

  • Changing Cluster Master node

       Hello,
                  I have two nodes rac setup. I just need to change the master node to different node in the cluster. How to change the master node?
      Please help me out.

    Hi,
    Master Node not exist on RAC and I have pretty sure you are not talking about "OCR Master", you are talking about RESOURCE MASTER.
    The only thing closest to something like a "Master" is that only one node has the role to update the Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR), all other nodes only read the OCR.
    However this is just a role, which can easily switch between the nodes (but is normally fix as long as the responsible nodes lives).
    This node hover is then called OCR master.
    How do I change node which hold  "OCR Master"?
    You can't decide that and you can't change that manually the Clusterware do it automatically without human intervention.
    OCR Master is not a MASTER NODE it's only a role.
    Good answer here:
    Re: Identify the OCR master node for 11.2
    Re: which node will become master
    Please don't confuse the concept of MASTER OCR with RESOURCE MASTER (e.g Data Block).
    All nodes hold MASTER RESOURCE, because that I said : all nodes are equal.
    With "billions" of data block spread out in memory of cluster (SGA Instances), one node maintains extensive information (i.e Lock, Version, etc) about a particular resource (i.e a data block).
    So, one node has master resource of data block "data_01" the other node has a master resource of data block "data_02" and so on. If a node which hold master resource fails (shutdown) GCS choose other node in the cluster to be a MASTER Resource of that particular resource.

  • Tmloadcf cannot run on a non-master node

    please help, i have configured every thing as it says in the document, and it give
    me this message when i try to run the tmloadcf ubbsimple
    tmloadcf cannot run on a non-master node
    any suggestions ASAP

    Hi Rafik,
    You don't mention what type of machine you are using, but if it is Microsoft Windows
    the OS has an annoying habit of displaying all but the first letter of the name
    in lower case letters, even if it was entered in upper case letters. Tuxedo is
    case sensitive in this respect - the easiest way to check is to right-click on
    "My Computer", select Properties, then select Computer Name. The Full computer
    name will show the correct case of the name as it was entered, and this is what
    you must use with Tuxedo.
    Regards, Malcolm.

    Now that you don't need it any more, when everI have this problem, I
    enter the
    output of the Tuxedo hostname command into this field. 99% of the time,
    this
    works. On some systems, tmloadcf wants to see the hostname by itself,
    on others
    it needs the fully qualified hostname (myhost.bea.com). On some systems,
    it has
    to be uppercase on others lower case but almost all the time hostname
    returns
    what tmloadcf needs.

  • Null values from DB2 cause problems

    Hi,
    I have another problem with database link to DB2 using IBM iSeries Access for Linux on 64 bit OEL5 with Oracle Database gateway and unixODBC 2.2.14.
    DB link works. However, null values from DB2 cause problems. Date columns that are null on db2 return a date '30.11.0002', and character columns that are null return an error ORA-28528: Heterogeneous Services datatype conversion error.
    isql returns correct results.
    How can i fix this? Perhaps set some parameters for data conversion on the gateway?
    Thank you.

    If the driver is not fully ODBC level 3 compliant and misses functions, we're lost. But sometimes the drivers are ODBC level 3 compliant but miss the correct 64bit implementation. In those cases we can tell the gateway to use the 32bit ODBC level 3 standard by setting in the gateway init file:
    HS_FDS_SQLLEN_INTERPRETATION=32

  • I want to uninstall ReloadEvery as I think it is causing problems however it is not in my list of Extensions or Plugins yet it is clearly installed, I tried reinstalling FF but it was still there! How can I get rid of it?

    I installed ReloadEvery a while ago and it seemed to be working fine however I am now having problems with FF crashing and weird things like pages not reloading and not being able to use the back button etc
    I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling FF and upgrading to FF 4.
    When I upgraded to FF 4 I was still having problems even though I didn't have any Extensions installed at all, or so I thought. I noticed that ReloadEvery was still installed. I was rather puzzled as I had done a clean install of FF 4. I want to remove ReloadEvery to see if it will solve my problems.
    I have also tried following the help on the FF Troubleshooting about manually uninstalling Extensions but again ReloadEvery not listed there yet I am still able to use it in FF!
    I want to get rid of it!! I really need some help please.

  • FF 3.6 AND 5 on same Mac, 1 profile - can I uninstall 5 without causing problems running 3.6 or with the profile?

    I upgraded from 3.6.16 to 5, but don't like how 5 handles tabs (auto reloading 'problem loading' tabs when internet connection is reestablished). So I installed 3.6 in a separate folder, e.g. both versions are on this computer. I went back to using 3.6, and let it upgrade to either 3.6.18 or 19 (don't recall which & it's not open right now). I'm having problems with it using too much CPU & Memory, and not sure if that's a difference between 3.6.16 & 3.6.18/19, or if having 5 on the same computer even if closed could be causing the problem.
    Can I uninstall 5 without causing problems with the 3.6 version and the single profile?

    If you haven't tried this, give it a try. It worked for me, hopefully it will work for you. In your version 3 firefox, disable all extensions, I had two plugins (doubletwist and joost, disable those if you have them). Then install firefox 5 by overwriting your version 3 firefox. It should work fine after that. I tried everything before, I gave that a last ditch shot. Oh yeah, before you install firefox 5, clear your cache of everything just to be sure.
    Hopefully that helps.

  • I have two Iphones with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID. Will that cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

    I have two Iphones 5 with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID account.Both are using IOS 8.
    I would like to set up a new Apple Id for one of the phones and remove it from the old account.
    If I do that, can I move all of the purchased apps and songs to the new Apple account?
    Also, will sharing one Apple ID account with two devices cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

    Sharing an iCloud account between two devices can be done without causing issues with iMessage and FaceTime, just go into Settings for each of these functions and designate separate points of contact (i.e. phone number only, or phone number and unique email address).  While that works, you'll then face the problem where a phone call to one iPhone will ring both if on the same Wi-Fi network -- but again, that can be avoided by changing each phone's settings.
    Rather than do all that, don't fight it -- use separate IDs for iCloud.  You can still use a common ID for iTunes purchases (the ID for purchases and iCloud do not have to be the same) or you can use Family Sharing to share purchases from a primary Apple account.

    Java 6 you can't as Apple maintains it, and Java 7 you could if you uninstall it and Oracle provides the earlier version which they likely won't his last update fixed 37 remote exploits.
    Java broken some software here and there, all you'll have to do is wait for a update from the other parties.
