Accept apostrophe and double quote

How can I make my web application (developed in jsp) accept both the characters: apostrophe and doule quote, in a text field?
<input type="text" name="Name" value=""> will not accept apostrophe.
<input type="text" name="Name" value=''> will not accept double quote.

I'm sure u've used Java enough. Also, u must have learned about the \ (backslash) escape character ?
So, if u want to include a string like a single quote, u can write \' and for a double quote u can write \".
Try this ... I'm sure it will help.

1.New a message and focus on the message window > click File > Options > Mail > Spelling and Autocorrect… > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options… > AutoFormat > clear the box before “Straight quotes” with “smart quotes”
2. Used different encoding. We presently using US-ASCII for outgoing message. etc.
Need your help to sort out these issues urgently.

What is your account type? IMAP, POP or Exchange?
Send an email from the webmail, ask the recipient if this issue persists.
As far as I know, this problem is always related to the encoding for outgoing messages, and here I suggest you try UTF-8:
Go to File -> Options -> Advanced -> International options -> Uncheck "Automatically select encoding for outgoing messages", then select "Unicode (UTF-8)" beside "Preferred encoding for outgoing messages" -> OK.

Characters such as apostrophes and smart quotes turning into boxes or question marks

We recently upgraded from CF5 to CF7 and are having a problem
with previously saved text that no longer displays correctly. Some
characters (apparently, non-ASCII characters such as curly
apostrophes and smart quotes) are rendering as boxes or question
marks. We recently upgraded to Oracle 10g from Oracle 8i, but this
problem appears to be independent of the database that the text is
stored in. Here is sample code that will illustrate the problem:

<CFSET string2="hey—there">
<CFOUTPUT>
string1 is #string1#
 
string2 is #string2#
</CFOUTPUT>
output looks like this:
string1 is Department?s
string2 is hey?there
These are rendered as boxes when viewed in Internet Explorer.
(They show up as question marks when I copy and paste them here.)
The Demoronize UDF helps *some* of the time, but this is
still happening with a lot of text, especially text that gets
pasted from a website into a form, then saved to a database. Does
anybody have a solution for this? This is breaking my applications
and is incredibly annoying. I'd like to either replace the
problematic characters at the time they are displayed, or replace
them when they are input in the database in the first place (and go
back and update all the previously saved data to replace the
problematic characters with plain text equivalents).
Any suggestions appreciated.

I finally isolated the problematic characters so I edited the
DeMoronize UDF (available at cflib.org) by adding the following
text replacements at the bottom:

Single and double quotes entered in form field cause corruption?

I am creating a database change request system using in APEX 2.2 and the main form has a description field (clob) and a API_description field (varchar2(4000)) that are text area fields on the page. The form seems to have trouble when the string data entered into the text area page items on the form contain single and double quotes.
 
I have pasted my test data below in this problem description(this is not true sql but it gets the point accross). I use the wizard created insert process to get the data into the db from the text fields in the wizard generated form, then use the wizard created fetch process to get the data back out and rendered on the same form. When I use the test data below, sometimes a few characters dissappear from my input data on the way out, sometime form fields go away, and their html is interspersed with the previous form field's data on the page. And I get different results on different tests with the same data.
 
Do I have to do something special for a vanilla htmldb text page item on a form to be able to receive single and double quotes in the string input in order to avoid that string data confusing the processing on the way in to the Database or on the way out for rendering?
 
Do I have to escape the characters? How do I do this?
 
The "varchar2(1) := ‘A’" part of the below TEST DATA string seem to cause the most trouble. The behavior is erratic - sometimes the pattern works, sometimes html is interspersed in one place, sometimes another (on the way back out)

I found a good php related post that has a nice set of the potentially problematic characters (this is in the context of word pasted into IE I think). I am pretty confident that at least single curly quotes do not work well in apex 2.2). I would not be surprised if some of the others were trouble as well.:

URGENT!! CELLWRAPPER single and double quot issues???

REP-50003: Bad parameter: CELLWRAPPER='I get this error whenever I try and use single or double quotes as a cellwrapper.
However if I do [SPACE][SPACE] as a cell wrapper this works fine?Is this a bug? I'm sure we have version "10.1.2.0.2"?

Ping and editing and double quotes

Couple of issues using the Ping to comment and send email.
1) It appears that using double quotes in either a comment on a Ping invite or a Recent Activity Item appears to cause problems. When referencing other songs/album/content I tend to quote them in the recent activity item comment and this causes an error.
2) Not sure exactly how this happens, but a couple of times I have managed to delete my whole comment. It seems to occur when deleting in the middle of paragraph of text. Anyway, when this occurs the undo does not seem to work.
Anybody notice these behaviors?

Objects and double-quote

I am migrating to 10gr2 (we're actually running on 9.0.1) and i just saw the following problem (to me it is a problem)
If I create a sequence
create sequence "test" blablalba I have to refer to this sequence with "
select test.nextval from dual won't work. I have to do select "test".nextval from dual.
Is there a parameter I can set to avoid this?

MySQL will only let me use backticks (not single or double quotes)

What the hell is going on here? This worked fine until a recent update.

In the SQL Standard, table and column names don't have to be between quotes, only values can be (for instance if you have spaces in a value).
Just call "SELECT * FROM table;", that's all.

document.form1.description.value=astr;
The value of firstDesc is a very big string from the database that contains carriage return, linefeed, single quote and double quote. It needs to be displayed in a HTML text area. Now everything works fine except the double quote. A firstDesc value containing double quote will not appear in the text area, and it even stop my jsp page and disable other buttons. But if I get rid of the code handling the double quote, everything works fine. What's the problem?

Double Quotes in MaxL Strings

I am trying to pass in a calc script string from a Perl script to a MaxL script. The calc script needs double quotes around some of the member names (yes, I know I can create aliases with underscores to work around this, but I can't believe this isn't possible). I can escape the double quote characters in Perl, no problem. But the double quotes just get stripped by MaxL. Here is an example: MAXL> echo 'I am "quoting" this'; I am "quoting" this MAXL> set X = 'I am "quoting" this'; MAXL> echo $X; I am quoting this MAXL> There is nothing in the docs about escaping double quote characters. I've tried using backslash, no luck there. I've tried using double double quotes and they all get stripped. I've tried doing this inside single quoted strings and double quoted strings - no joy whatsoever. The funny thing is the example above, where simply echoing the literal string works, but assigning it to a variable strips out the double quotes. Does anyone know how to get double quotes into a MaxL string variable? There has to be a way... Thanks, James

Yes, I've dealt with enclosing variables in double quotes in order for MaxL to parse them properly, but what I'm trying to do is use a variable that contains a double quote. Such as: set QuoteVar = 'I am "quoting" this'; I'm trying to set substitution variables via MaxL, and some of my existing sub vars have double quotes in them so that they can be used to store member names that appear in calc scripts. As I said, I know I can accomplish this with an alias table that creates a version of the member name that doesn't need quotes, but that's a whole deal to maintain just for this one thing and it seems overly burdensome for such a simple task. Also, as I said, MaxL does fine with double quotes in literal strings, it's only when assigned to variables that it always strips them out. I want to create a relatively generic script for setting sub vars, so I need to pass variables around. Just calling MaxL from Perl and passing in parameters that get converted to $1, $2, etc. causes these double quotes to get stripped. So, is there any way around this? Thanks, James

Can't import csv fields starting with double quotes but lack ending ones

When I'm trying to used external table to import a csv file, specified as using comma as delimiter optionally enclosed by double quotes, some records are rejected because a field in the record has starting double quotes, but without ending ones.
Assume the customer really want these starting double quotes, how do I change my external table specification such that these starting double quotes are treated as part of the field data and can be successfully inserted into db?

I have no access to Oracle during weekends, so nothing can be tested. So here it goes:
Suggestion: DELIMITED BY '","' and of course omitt ENCLOSED BY '"'
You will have to update each row of the rows just loaded setting the first_field to substr(first_field,2) and the last_field to substr(last_field,-2)
If all the fields are not enclosed in double quotes (TRUE for strings and FALSE for numbers and dates) the situation (syntax diagrams allow two delimiters only) is somehow more complicated, anyway you can specify DELIMITED BY ',' and update all varchar2 fields in each row of the rows just loaded setting the varchar2_field to substr(varchar2_field,2,length(varchar2_field) - 2).

After posting I noticed it's difficult to distinguish between single and double quotes:
the first DELIMITED BY should read {single quote){double quote}{comma}{double quote}{single quote)
the ENCLOSED BY should read {single quote){double quote}{single quote)

Maxl embedded double quotes

Special double quotes and apostrophes in java help

We are writing help for an application and using doctor help to generate it. The help is written in Word and converted to html. Word however, converts all the " characters to those "squiggly ones" which point towards the word they're quoting.
When we viewed the generated help with java help those squiggly were not rendered. They are rendered as a square which means java help does not understand them.
I'm sure someone else must have encountered this issue.
Please can you tell me how to successfully render the squiggly double quotes in java help?

using an xml encoder, e.g. xmlenc solves this issue, otherwise you must do it manually.
But I have a related problem. When characters in the XML file are encoded
they are only displayed correctly if some non encoded character follows.
When there are two successive encoded characters then only the first one
is displayed correctly. Putting a whitespace in between them displays both
characters correctly, but with the whitespace in between.
I guess there is an issue with the XML parser. Changing the encoding of the XML file does not help.
