Access 2003 Embedded OLE Object + Acrobat Reader 9.2 error on close?

This seems to be a known problem without a known solution.
We have a SQL database backend and an Access 2003 frontend. The Access client displays scanned PDF documents via an embedded OLE Object field.
Up until recently, we had been using Acrobat Reader 6.0 as the default viewer, but we switched up to 9.2 so that our staff could read external PDFs with security/encryption,etc. When an embedded PDF is viewed now through the Access client, an error is thrown when Acrobat Reader is closed, indicating that an OLE server was not registered, or needed to be re-installed. This did not happen with the Acrobat 6.0 client.
Is there any automatic behind-the-scenes file updates being performed when Acrobat Reader 9.2 shuts down? It seems like some information is trying to be written (maybe a timestamp?) and is kicking back an error when it can't update the target file.
Is there a workaround for this? I need the ability to read secured PDFs, but I also don't want my users having to needlessly deal with persistent error messages.

Disable the protection mode in the preferences of Adobe Reader.

    Hi,
we are using Flash CC an a dedicated windows server with two userprofiles. Each user has its own licence.
If we run a jsfl script singly, this script runs fine.
If we run the same jsfl script on both users we get the error:

I read the article addItem() -> "Embedding OLE objects is unsupported" , but it could not the problem, because the script runs fine singly.
Could it be possible that both users uses the same Flash CC Clipboard ore are there any other shared modules etc?

  • Problem with embedded OLE objects

I am using Outlook as client.
I sent mail with Excel table as embeddet object.
Outlook can after what read and show this mail.
But if I read this mail with SOAP I get a message body without Excel table.
I thought it should be in attachment.
hasAttachments-filed in mail object is true, but attachments-filed is empty (not null!): attachments=AttachmentItemInfo[0].
I am reading mail with getItemRequest and view = "default attachments attachment message attachments".
We are using Groupwise 8.0.1 HP1.
What is hier wrong? How can I read OLE object with SOAP?

The complete response was not included.
If you are trying to save an embedded OLE attachment,
there is no logic to do that on the POA, the attachment
    will be dropped.

  • There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader etc etc error code 103?? Help Please

Adobe Acrobat Reader issue as above - downloaded latest version again still issues. I am using an old Acer laptop with Windows XP which I only now use for printing

The  etc etc refers to the usual standard message as follows - also re Acrobat I was merely repeating the message given.
'there is a problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader. If it is running exit and try again (103:103)' this was the exact message given. I had version 11.0.08 which I have now deleted and am using an earlier version 10.0.4 which seems to have resolved the problem for the time being

  • Persistent Acrobat Reader (not responding) error

Good evening, my name is Tom and I'm new to this forum so please bear with me.
Since we took delivery of this Dell PC and I first loaded Adobe Acrobat Reader 10 it has never worked.  I'm running Windows 7 and Norton 360.  I estimate I have uninstalled and reloaded this program six or more times
Every time I try to use Acrobat Reader I have to go through the "Do you want to allow this program........." step to get past the firewall.  Then a Reader window pops up and a small asterik-like icon in the gray space to the right of the document pane begins filling in from the 12 o-clock position.  It usually stops filling in by  the 6 O-clock position and then the "(Not Responding)" message shows up in the Acrobat Title Bar.  Here is an example from earlier today, about 1830 hours UTC on Wednesday, 11 December 2013.
Meanwhile Task Manager is singing a different tune.
So, this begs the question, what is AcroRd32.exe*32 doing with two sessions, one with 348K of memory and 25% of my CPU and the other session using 00% of my CPU and 5,228K memory? This is the status since 1900 Hours UTC this date. It's now 0222 hours UTC on 12 December 2013 and I've run out of ideas.
I'd appreciate any helpful suggestions from the forum community.
Thank you and good night (EST),
    Tom

    Pat, thanks again.
Please remember I'm using Adobe Reader 11.0 not 10.
I unzipped your registry file and loaded it into this PC.  Then I restarted this computer and launched Adobe Reader.  This time the asterik-like icon completed 3/4 of a rotation before I saw the "(not responding)" error message.  Also, I have two entries in Windows Task Manager, Processes tab.  The first AcroRd32.exe *32 uses 00% CPU and 41,752K Memory.  The second AcroRd32.exe *32 entry uses 25% of the CPU and 6,924K memory.
Thanks for providing me some progress toward solving this issue.

  • Using Access to store OLE objects like Excel , Word docs and retrieve them

    Hi folks,
I need a solution for this problem guys.
The logic is like this : A portable exe file and a database. Database contains files stored ( embedded ) in it like Excel , Word , notepad etc.
On running the exe file and giving necessary prompts or combo entries, it should display all files related to the selection and On clicking the link the document should open itself.
Why I use Access : Most of the PC contains MS Office. Otherwise I have to use a lightweight protable database.
Also it should be able to store files into it. As far as I know , Access can store excel and images etc. Is there any other protable db capable of storing excel and word docs.
After storing how do I retrieve the file. I have read about displaying images. What about excel files...

Portable as in the sense every one can cary the file and the MS access database and can access data whenever they want . They can carry it in their flash drive / USB drive. Only the data base would get updated with the data. So in effect , One could access the updated documents by the means of a query.
This should work in Windows environment

  • Crystal Reports not displaying embedded OLE Objects in browser

I am building an .net web application.  I am using VS2013 and have my report displaying ok in report viewer in the browser.  Only issue I have is i have embedded images, checkboxes and empty checkboxes, to signify if a user has selected certain criteria.  However, these images do not display at all.  Instead, in Firefox, 'Image' is displayed in its place.
Please help.  How can I get these images to display without having to try and figure out how to stream it to pdf and show pdf instead of the default crystal report viewer.
I have attached some screen shots for you as well.

  • Acrobat Reader Download - Win32 Error

I'm attempting to download the latest version of Reader and I've run into a few problems:
    1. The downloaded file is only 168 kb
    2. It downloads without an extension
    3. When I click to install the file (install_reader10_en_air_mssd_aih), I get an error message that says it is "not a valid win32 application".
Oddly enough, there is a shortcut in my start menu for Reader X, but apparently it is just a shortcut. When I click on it, I get a message saying "This action is ony valid for products that are currently installed". I guess I had it installed at some point, and now I don't - and I can't think of any reason why I would have removed it. It is not in my list of currently installed software.
I've attempted the file download from Firefox and IE with the same result.
I've added the .exe extension to the file name
I do have Acrobat Professional 9 installed
    Thanks for the help!

Try downloading the installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/direct/

  • OLE object error when using with Access 2003 and Adobe Reader X

I link to .pdf files in Access 2003 and since upgrading to Adobe Reader X yesterday, am unable to link to these files.  I receive an error stating "A problem occurred while accessing the OLE object". • How to read OLE objects from Access ??

    Hi,
I have an field of type OLE in my Access Database table. This field has some files stored in it in the form of attachment. The file types of the OLE objects can be different (xls, txt, doc). Now, I want to query the database and find the extension of the files and save it occordingly using java.
    I'm using the following now.
    JdbcOdbcInputStream jois = (JdbcOdbcInputStream) rs     .getBinaryStream("SupportingData");
    byte[] supportingData = jois.readData();
    String data = new String(supportingData);
I'm getting data in binary format and when I try to look into it, all I can see is the header info of the file.
Is there anyother way to read the OLE object easily ?
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,
    Mary

How to read appended objects from file with ObjectInputStream? The short answer is you can't.
The long answer is you can if you put some work into it. The general outline would be to create a file with a format that will allow the storage of multiple streams within it. If you use a RandomAccessFile, you can create a header containing the length. If you use streams, you'll have to use a block protocol. The reason for this is that I don't think ObjectInputStream is guaranteed to read the same number of bytes ObjectOutputStream writes to it (e.g., it could skip ending padding or such).
Next, you'll need to create an object that can return more InputStream objects, one per stream written to the file.
Not trivial, but that's how you'd do it.

  • OLE object Migration from Access to Oracle through SQL developer

    Hello,
I used sql developer 3.1.07(oracle 11g) to perform data migration from MS ACESS.
the MS access data has a column with data type as "OLE object" ---there
saved a lot of pdf files .
Then I performed "copy to oracle" from MS access connection, the OLE data
changed to BLOB from oracle database, and data seems to be copied to
database as binary . However none of the data in the column can be opened. I
download the blob data to a file from sql developer and tried to open
using Adobe 8.1 with no success.
How can I fix this issue? or I should say, how can I migrate MS access OLE data to oracle?
    Thanks,

The original PDF content starts with:

But when I try to save the content in the BLOB as a file it claims about a missing mime extension and when I ignore this message and save the file anyway as a PDF the content is corrupted.
    It shows as :

  • OLE objects & scaning in Acrobat 8.0

    Hello!
In forums (May 3, 2007) I have read the question:
" How to avoid dialogue of saving in a file before scanning in Acrobat 8"?
Leonard Rosenthol has answered, that there is no way because
now developers changed from "Scan & Save" to "Save & Scan".
    It is very surprising!!!
I have the application which uses OLE automation for scanning documents in Acrobat and place them in
    database as OLE objects.
In database the object is created on the basis of an PDF file with one empty page and then activated in
    window of Acrobat.
Then menu item "Scan" is carried out.
Fragment of VBA code (properly work in Acrobat 6):
    Set GL.Acr = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
    GL.Acr.Show
    GL.Acr.Minimize 0
Me!DocImage.Class = "AcroExch.Document" 'set class of OLE object
Me!DocImage.SourceDoc = "c:\applicants\empty.pdf" 'source file with empty sheet
Me!DocImage.Action = acOLECreateEmbed 'creation on basis of source file
    Me!DocImage.Verb = acOLEVerbOpen 'command - open
Me!DocImage.Action = acOLEActivate 'activation in Acrobat
    ScanExe = GL.Acr.MenuitemExecute("Scan")
    If ScanExe = False Then
But Acrobat 8.0 does not understand, that document is open from OLE object
and always gives out save dialog before scaning.
Menu items -"Update" (instead of "Save") and "Exit and Return to ..."
    (instead of "Exit") are absent.
It turns out, that in Acrobat 8 you have destroyed an opportunity of work with
documents contained in OLE objects in other applications. It is absolutely not clear.
    Please answer what to do???

    Dear Leonard!
    I disagree with your answer.
OLE automation is used by many programs.
Within the framework of this technology is widely used:
    - creation and preservation of object in the application - client (database in my case),
    - then opening of object in application - server (Acrobat in my case)
    - and applying methods described in the documentation of application - server to open object.
In my code is used the standard technology of OLE automation and ONLY!!! the methods described in the documentation of Acrobat.
My code works in Acrobat 6 and Acrobat 7.
I have written previous message to make Acrobat better!!!
I so understand, that you answer on behalf of developers, but your answer not worthy the world famous name - "Adobe".
I think, that developers of new scan plug-in for Acrobat 8 simply did not consider, that the document can be open from the object stored in application - client.
And as representative of developers it is necessary for you either to recognize publicly a problem or publicly to declare, that "Adobe" will not solve it, instead of to write, that not documentary opportunities have been used.
    Yours faithfully,
    Victor.

    Hi,
When we try to open a pdf file from an unc path by double-click on it there is an error message : "There was error opening this files. Access Denied"
If we do "File -> Open" the file open correctly. Same if we copy the file localy.
After looking around Internet and other thread Acrobat Reader X got the same problem but seemed to be resolved with an update.
If we desable "Enable Protected Mode at startup" the file open correctly (it is not a solution).
Does anyone have a solution to this problem ?
    OS : Windows XP SP3
    Acrobat Reader : 11.0.2
    Regards,

I have also seen this occur with one user's computer.  Another user with similar privileges and software setup does not exhibit the same issue however.  Would love Adobe to investigate and address this issue.
