Access 97 to Oracle 9i - Unable to migrate table data

I cannot seem to get the Access security set correctly to migrate the table data. I created a new Access database by importing the old one into a blank, and I thought I was doing what needed to be done to allow READ access for the Workbench. I'm getting nowhere!
The WB is creating the model correctly and creating the tablespaces, users and table objects in my Oracle database. But it is not able to migrate table data due to insufficient rights to the Access tables.
Any thoughts? I can't seem to find an answer to this in any documentation.

Did you (or anyone) ever find a solution to this problem? I am having a similar issue. I have even tried creating a new Access 97 database (blank db w/imported tables). All permissions are set for the default 'Admin' user and the 'Admin' user is the owner of all tables.

MS SS 7.0 - 8.1.7: "Migrate Table Data" N/A

Hello there,
We're currently attempting to do a migration from MS SQL Server 7.0 to Oracle 8.1.7, using Migration Workbench.
I'm able to capture, and create the model successfully, but when going to Object->Migrate Table Data it is grayed out and disabled. I'm able to generate SQL*Loader scripts, but I really would prefer to do everything end-to-end via the Workbench.
Also, please note, I do not have sa rights on the target server, so I'm not able to run the Action->Migrate to Oracle wizard.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
The 3rd page of the migration wizard should contain a question asking you whether you would like to migrate the data or not.
Please be aware that we recommend data migration before any primary/foreign key creation.
Also, the migrate table data menu item only becomes enabled once you click on a table folder in the Oracle Model UI tab. You can also click on the 'Tables' folder to migrate the data for all tables.

Migration from Access to Oracle 10g (Problem with migration wizard)

I have an access database which I want to migrate to Oracle DB.
I have created 2 connections.
1. Access connection with the source database
2. Oracle connection.
I have associated the oracle connection to the repository.
When I go through 'MIGRATION WIZARD' process. I am not able to view the source database file while capturing. Tried it several times.
Need a help in this

Arjun,
you cannot do an online migration with MS Access as you can do with other foreign datasources. You can only do an offline migration.
The first step that you need to do is to call the Microsoft Access Exporter. Click on Tools - Migration - Microsoft Access Exporter and chose the exporter of the MS Access version that you are using.
The exporter creates an xml file for you. After the exporter has finished you can do the migration, click on Tools - Migration - Migrate, but in Step 4 please select "Offline", and then you can select the xml file that the exporter has created. The following steps in the Migration assistant are then doing the migration for you.
You might also want to read the chapter "Before Migrating From Microsoft Access" in the online help of SQL Developer.

Unable to migrate table, character set from WE8MSWIN1252 to AL32UTF8

Hi,
On our source db the character set is AL32UTF8
On our own db, we used the default character set of WE8MSWIN1252 .
When migrating one of the table, we get an error of this: ORA-29275: partial multibyte character
So in to alter our character set from WE8MSWIN1252 to AL32UTF8, we get this error:
ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET AL32UTF8
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-12712: new character set must be a superset of old character set
I would sure not like to reinstall the db and migrate the tables again. Thanks.

You can use the ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET command in very few cases. You will most likely have to recreate the database and re-migrate the data.

How to migrate 'table' data type into oracle solution?

Say, I have following sample code in Sql Server:
Declare @v1 table(old_value int, new_value int)
insert into @v1 select old_value, new_value from aTable where....
declare cur cursor for
select new_value from @v1 where old_value=...
what should I use in oracle to convert above code? I was thinking about nested table, but it seems not very suitable here. Any better solutions out there?

It's been a while since I've done any SQL Server development, but if I recall correctly, a table data type in Transact SQL is used for storing temporary result sets.
In your example, you seem to be temporaily storing the results of a query in a Transact SQL table, and then opening a cursor to iterate over the results.
In Oracle PL/SQL, there is usually no need to do this, just open a cursor:
create or replace procedure test_proc as
begin
for curs_rec in (select old_value, new_value from myTable) loop
... process each row ...
end loop;
end test_proc;
If you really want your results in an array which your code can iterate over, look into the BULK COLLECT clause of the SELECT statement:

SELECT * BULK COLLECT INTO my_array FROM myTable;

Note that I have not actually compiled the above code, so there may be syntax errors :)
Also, prior to 9i you can not BULK COLLECT into a table based on a rowtype (you need to created an array for each attribute).
SQL Server also allows function which return table types. This is similar to PL/SQL pipelined table functions (available in 9i and higher - see the PL/SQL guide), which can be used to materialize rows which can be processed like any other result set.
SQL Server also has a concept of temporary tables which is totally different than Oracle's temporary tables. SQL Server developers must often resort to using temporary tables in their stored procedures; in Oracle, this is rarely necessary.

Unable to edit table data, but not for all tables

I have multiple tables in a schema. For some tables, I am able make edits to table data directly, i.e., context menu Table | Open, and the Data tab. When I am able to edit, I do get a pencil icon inside the cell I am editing/typing (and am able to commit the changes). When I am not able to edit, it does nothing (no error messages, sound, or visual cue). I thought it had to do with who owns the table object, but I log in as the same owner of the affected table objects.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated so I am equipped when asking the DBA.

Unable to display table data in Review View

Hi Experts,
I have one main view and one review View .In my main view i have one table (Normal Table) and several other input feilds and text views....
If i click on review button in my main view, am able to see all the data in review view except table data.
How can i get the table data which i have entered in main view.. the same should display in review view.
I binded the same node in both main and review. and node is defined under component controller.
Any ideas?

I think you already binded in review view also with same node. right? So data will move automatically and display in
review view also. In WDDOINIT of review veiw read data from that node and use bind_Table.

Access - Oracle migration : table with reserved name migration pb

I migrated an Access 97 appli and DB to Oracle 8 using WorkBench.
Everything was OK, except for a table.
This table, named "OPTION" (Oracle reserved word) was migrated to a table named "OPTION_".
But when I tried to migrate the data, I got the following error from the Access ODBC driver :
"Message: Unable to migrate data for table : portagexdsl.OPTION_; [Microsoft][Pilote ODBC Microsoft Access] Erreur de syntaxe dans la clause FROM."
(ODBC message translation : Syntax error in the FROM clause)
Of course, I can export data manually and load it with sql*loader, but I want to know why and how to solve this pb.
Note : I think the pb is that the ODBC request to migrate the data is like :
Select * from Option
and it causes an ODB error.
What can I do...

Unfortunately, the only workaround at the moment would be to create a view, and use an alias for the TYPE column.

MS ACCESS TO ORACLE Error Migrating Text Data

¿How can i migrate spanish characters in Oracle ?
I'm migrating some data with spanish characters like:
Á, É, Í, Ó, Ú, á, í, ú, é, ó, ñ , Ñ.
So the process was correct but when i query data in Oracle y have this:
EspaÃ±ol instead of Español or
FrancÃ©s instead of Francés
My *.dat files get the correct data, but when i migrate this to Oracle i have this erroneous data.
Im mapping from Text Data Type to Varchar2 with 100 length

Hi Ryan,
You mention in your posting that when you migrate to Oracle that you have errorneous data. Are the invalid characters saved in the Oracle database or are you just seeing these invalid characters when you query the database?
Could you please check what your NLS_LANG parameter is set to? You can check the value of NLS_LANG by checking the registry subkey. Also could you check what the NLS_CHARACTERSET is on your Oracle database.

Unable to Query Table

Hi Folks,
I'm stuck in weird situation. User complaints fetching data from table A is timing-out ( as per application standards). I decided to collect latest statistics(dbms_stats) on index used by query which is running for more than 12 hours. Ideally which should not.It is partition table and got close to 10 millions records.
1) I checked dba_waiters - no rows
2) I checked v$locked_object/v$locks - no rows
3) I'm unable to run explain-plan for any criteria on that table
4) I'm unable to open table data-tab in Toad/ Sql developer.
5) I'm unable to query a single partition; no error but it keeps on running.
SQL> SELECT * FROM SSAM_TRANS_FACT PARTITION (P20101010S01);

Again, anything in alert.log? Any trace files? What happens if you issue:

I have followed the steps in the following link:
Make an External List from a SQL Azure table with Business Connectivity Services and Secure Store, but I keep receiving the following message when I try to access an external list:
"Unable to render the data. If the problem persists, contact your web server administrator"
Note: I'm using SharePoint 2013 ONLINE, and (as far as I know) I have no access to the logs & powershell.
Any body has had the same issue before?

Hi Zuhair,
If you give details of the problems you are still having then we should be able to get SQL*Developer to work.
However, if you don't want to use SQL*Developer then the following options are taken from note 393760.1 available in Metalink if you have access to that -
1. Use a gateway that supports the non-Oracle database or generic connectivity if a third party ODBC driver is available to do a -
'create Oracle_table as select from non_oracle_table@database_link'
for each table. You would then have to manually create all the other objects (views, indexes, stored procedurs etc) and permissions etc that existed in the non-Oracle database.
2. Use the SQL*Plus COPY command to copy data from the non-Oracle database to the
Oracle database using a gateway or generic connectivity. The syntax is as follows:
COPY FROM username/password@oracle_sid -
INSERT destination_oracle_table -
USING query;
The following example selects all rows from the EMP table in the non-Oracle database and
inserts them into the local Oracle EMP table:
COPY FROM SCOTT/TIGER@ora10 -
INSERT EMP -
USING SELECT * FROM SCOTT.EMP@gateway;
where "gateway" is the database link created for the gateway.
3. Load the non-Oracle data into flat files and use SQL*Loader to put the data into Oracle tables. Again manual
work is required for the other objects.
4. Contact the Oracle Product Technology Services (PTS) group for assistance. See the webpage -

5. Use a third party migration tool. See -

ORA-01461 error when migrating MySQL -- Oracle table data

All,
I'm migrating MySQL 4.x to Oracle10g. Everything went smoothly except for one table was unable to migrate data, giving me the following error:
Unable to migrate data from source table mysql.mytable to destination table root.MYTABLE :
ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG columnThe offending source column in MySQL is defined as TEXT. In OMWB it is TEXT (5). The Oracle model originally defined it as VARCHAR2(1), but I resized it to VARCHAR2(4000) since it contains about 20 lines of text.
Neither the mysql or the oracle data models have a LONG column anywhere. Any idea's what might be causing this error?

Thanks for the feedback. I'm unable to reproduce the problem you describe at the moment - if I try to migrate a TEXT(5), OMWB creates a VARCHAR(5) and the data migrates correctly!! However, I note from you description that even though the problematic source column datatype is TEXT(5), you mention that there are actually 20 lines of text in this field (and not 5 variable length characters as the definition might suggest).
Having read through some of the MySQL reference guide I note that, in certain circumstances, MySQL actually changes the column datatype specified either at table creation time or when interfacing with other databases ( ref 14.2.5.1 Silent Column Specification Changes and 12.7 Using Column Types from Other Database Engines in the MySQL reference guide). Since your TEXT(5) actually contains 20 lines of text, MySQL (database or JDBC driver .... or both) may be trying to automatically map the specified datatype of the column to a datatype more appropriate to storing 20 lines of text.... that is, to a LONG value in this case. Then, when Oracle is presented with this LONG value to store in a VARCHAR(5) field, it throws the ORA-01461 error. I need to investigate this further, but this may be the case - its the first time I've see this problem encountered.
To workaround this, you could change the datatype of the column to a LONG from within the Oracle Model before migrating. Any application code that accesses this column and expects a TEXT(5) value may need to be adjusted to cope with a LONG value. Is this a viable workaround for you?
I will investigate further and notiofy you of any details I uncover. We will need to track this issue for possible inclusion in future development plans.

Error: Access to Oracle migration

am trying to migrate MS access to oracle using Oracle work bench but my tables are empty. Getting error
Unable to migrate data from source table "SUMMARY_OF_METHODS_1" to destination table billing.SUMMARY_OF_METHODS_1 :

I have checked that I have proper user dsn for Ms Access database.
I have xml file in same folder where .mdb is.

How do I view Migrate Data errors - Access 2003 - Oracle 10g

I'm trying to use the SQL Developer to migrate data from an Access 2003 database to an Oracle 10g database. I followed the instructions found here:

I was able to complete every step except the actual data move. I exported the xml for the Access database, I captured the export and then ran the generation scripts on my target Oracle database (I'm using the same schema for the migration repository and the actual data). It created the tables with only one or two errors which I resolved.
Now, when I select Migration->Migrate Data, I get the dialog that appears to start 4 or 5 threads and attempts to migrate each table. They all error and do not transfer any rows. I can see that there's one error per table, but I can't see the error text. I just know that an error occurred. Is there a log somewhere or is the error displayed somewhere else? How do I know what's gone wrong?

I too receive unexplained error counts using the Migrate Data menu selection and unexplained failures using the Generate Data Move Scripts menu selection. Permissions granted by role or direct grants should not be a problem, but a Migrate Data error appears in the Migration Log panel at the bottom of the SQL Developer window, "Failed to disable constraints: ORA-00942 ... ". No further details available on what constraints or why the error. No other errors were detected while following the instructions found in the Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench Getting Started guide. SQL Developer never migrates the data from the existing Access 2000 mdb file to the newly created schema objects in Oracle 10g using either method. The following roles and privileges have been granted to both the repository owner and the target schema owner:

Operating system for both Access 2000 and Oracle 10g is Windows XP PRO SP2.
Oracle SQL Developer is version 1.1.2.25 build MAIN-25.79 on Windows XP PRO SP2. All three are on the same PC.
Since only the last step failed, I created a User DSN with the ODBC administrator. Then, linked the newly created Oracle table to Access via ODBC using the DSN created. Next, I created an append query with the source being the Access table and the target being the Oracle table. I moved the data by pressing the red exclamation mark.
