Access to Entity Service from Portal Application

Hi Experts,
I have a hybrid application which will be making use of both Web Dynpro and Portal Applications. I decided to use Entity Services to store my back-end data and can access it fine from the Web Dynpro project. I have included the public part of my CAF project into the Used DCs of my Portal project and while I am able to call the methods of the Entity Service at compile time, at runtime I receive an error message on the page:
An exception occurred while processing a request
I know in order to get this to work for Web Dynpro I had to include sap.com/tccolapi.sap.com/cafruntimeuicouplingapilib as a Library Reference and a few Used DCs, but while I have added the Used DCs to the Portal project, I am unsure of how to add the Library Reference. I assume this has to be added to portalapp.xml, but I don't know the syntax.
Could somehow please reply with how to do this and whether this is all that is required in order to call Entity Service methods from Portal applications?
Thanks,
JP

Hi Smith,
Write click on the Project then goto the Properties=>Webdynpro References=>Library references
add
caf/eu/gp/api
sap.com/cafruntimeuicouplingapilib
And add the following DC in your project.
1> External in caf/eu/gp/api (CAF domain)
2> caf/eu/gp/api/wd (CAF domain)
3> com.sap.security.api.sda (SAP-JEE)
portalapp.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<application>
<application-config>
<property name="SharingReference" value="usermanagement, knowledgemanagement, landscape, htmlb, exportalJCOclient, exportal, SAPJ2EE::library:cafeugp~api"/>
</application-config>

  • Accessing XI web service from portal as client

    Hi all
    I need to access a web service which has been created on XI
    server. I want to acess it from enterprise portal as a web service client. please provide related links to achieve this.
    thanks in advance
    vaishali

    Vaishali,
    never did this before, but some general ideas:
    Do you have an WSDL for that web service? Then simply use your NWDS and select New --> Portal Service --> From WSDL (or similar). What I mean is the following: NWDS can read WSDL files and will automatically generate a proxy for you that actually generates an ordinary portal service. This portal service then can be called by standard means in SAP EP.

    The system works fine when I use a http endpoint.

    Hi,
    By default, your application tries to connect to the Net directly : if you have to specify a proxy, use either these lines in your code :
    System.setProperty("http.proxySet", "true");
    System.setProperty("http.proxyHost", "proxy");
    System.setProperty("http.proxyPort", "8080");
    Or specify them in the command line with the "-D"option.
    Ex : java .... -Dhttp.proxySet=true .... MyApp
    Hope it helps.
    See ya

  • JNDI lookup from Portal Application Module

    Dear Experts,
    I have a problem with looking up a Deployable Web Service Proxy from within a Portal Application Module.
    I use NWDI and created both the Deployable WS Proxy DC and the Portal App DC.
    I added the generated Proxy to the Proxy DC's public part and added it as used DC to the Portal Module DC.
    When I perform the JNDI lookup, no exception is thrown but the Code is not executed any further...
    Here is the source:
    Category.APPLICATIONS.infoT( loc, "lookup JNDI...", new Object[] { this });
    Object o = ctx.lookup(JNDI_NAME);
    Category.APPLICATIONS.infoT( loc, o.getClass().getName(), new Object[] { this });
    service = (OrchestrationService)o;
    Category.APPLICATIONS.infoT(loc, "success!", new Object[] { this });
    The log shows the name of the class (OrchestrationServiceImpl) but not the success! part.
    As I said: No exceptions are thrown...
    Any help is appreciated!
    Matthias

    Solved the problem!
    It's allways the same:
    As soon as you ask the question the answer comes to you by itself...
    I needed to add a reference to the using DC. I already did that before but not correctly:
    If you want to add a reference to a j2ee application you need to read this document:
    [Calling J2EE Applications from Portal Applications|http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_03/helpdata/EN/42/9ddf20bb211d72e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm]
    It says the reference has to look like this:
    <property name="SharingReference" value="SAPJ2EE::sap.com/Hello"/>
    I hope it helps someone.

  • Accessing BW/ERP/CRM from portal

    Does any one have step by step guides for accessing BW/ERP/CRM from portal?
    I would apprciate if you guys can share issues faced and resolutions for accessing them through portal.
    Thanks,
    Anika

    hi
    BW/ERP/CRM access from portal is governed by a single concept of single sign on  where actually you integrate them through logon ticket otherwise you can use application integrator component for user mapping
    There is step by step guide of BW 3.5 integration with portal  in sdn as well
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/a3/7b583c2439e66fe10000000a114084/frameset.htm.
    on similar grounds you will have CRM too
    Portal and R3/CRM/BW in different windows domains
    please do not forget points

  • Generate Entity Service from External Service / Web Service (CAF)

    Hi,
    is it possible to generate an Entity Service from an External Service in the CAF-IDE? Or do I need to create each attribute manually which the External Service provides?
    (in worst case by using an api?)
    regards

    Hi,
    Unfortunately there is no possibility to create Entity Service based on another service. You have to do this manually for each attribute and method. Sorry ...

  • Issue regarding access of ABAP related services from portal

    Dear All,
    We need your input in the following issue:
    Scenerio:
    we have implemented ess 1.2 on ep7.0
    here we have gone for "Enhanced Package 2" for TRAVEL for client requirements so Travel Services are ABAP WEBDYNPRO instead of Standard JAVA WEBDYNPRO and we have 2 transaction iviews on portal.
    Now when an end user clicks on travel services, the request is forwaded to ABAP WAS. So, we need to maintain two entries in DNS: 1. Portal url, 2. ABAP WAS
    Now the client doesnot want to maintain ABAP WAS entry in their dns. BUT if they do not maintain this than end users are not able to access ABAP related services...
    Can you please suggest any possible solution for this issue.
    Thanks & Regards,
    JJ

    Hi,
    Per SAP Note 1040325, it says "It is not possible if there is another component between the browser and the message server (for example, a portal)." In your case a firewall between the portal and WAS. So a direct connection between the client and the WAS system is required which is a security risk. The section below gives more detail on why this is the case/
    The following is a excerpt from the Portal "Network and Communication Security" guide:-
    Please note that the requirement for direct access between the client and the backend is well flagged in the documentation. For instance, please refer to the Portal Security Guide, specifically the section "Network and Communication Security" (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/b9/c892f1ffc34156883ddd24aec01253/frameset.htm):
    'Neither the portal nor the AS Java provides a proxy function. [...] If you have set up a network architecture with one or more firewalls, and your portal integrates iViews that initiate client-backend communication, you must set up access for the client through the firewalls to the application server in the back end.'
    So the only secure solution is to install a webdispatcher in your DMZ and forward the requests from the (5) Portal to the (6) webdispatcher as in the graphic below :-
    ........................................./-> (3) Webdisp -\....................../-> (5) Portal
    (1) Client (IE) -> (2) Firewall |.........................|-> (4) Firewall |
    .........................................\-> (6) Webdisp -/......................\-> (7) WAS
    The original requests bound for the (5) Portal are relayed via the (3) webdisp1 as you can only have one webdisp connecting to one backend SAP system (Portal OR WAS).
    Hope this helps.

  • Consuming external Web Service in portal application:Error URL.getProtocol

    Hello!
    I implemented a portal application which consums a external Web Service with NWDS 7.2.
    The Webservice access works fine when I test it in a Java-Main Class.
    If I deploy the application in a portal then I get the error:
    java.lang.NullPointerException: while trying to invoke the method java.net.URL.getProtocol() of an object loaded from local variable 'tmpUrl'
    It seems that my service_client-class has the problem to call the wsdl if the application is in portal:
    static {
        java.net.URL url = null;
        try {
                   java.net.URL tmpUrl = SERVICEClient.class.getClassLoader().getResource
                  ("wsdl/com/sap/test/SERVICE.wsdl");
                  url = new java.net.URL(tmpUrl.getProtocol(), tmpUrl.getHost(), tmpUrl.getPort(), tmpUrl.getFile());
        } catch (java.net.MalformedURLException e) {
          e.printStackTrace();
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks, Thomas

    Hello Thomas,
    I got the same error. In my case I used an Enterprise Application Project for the developement of my Portal Service. The portal service itself was calling an external webservice.
    The reason in my case lies behind the generation of the EAR-File with the NetWeaver Developer Studio). Inside the generated EAR-File the WSDL-File was always missing. In consequence "
    java.net.URL tmpUrl = SERVICEClient.class.getClassLoader().getResource
                  ("wsdl/com/sap/test/SERVICE.wsdl");" is always "NULL".
    and "tmpUrl.getProtocol()" leads to the NullPointerException.
    So I copied my wsdl-folder / package with the wsdl-file inside the {application}.ear / {application}.war / WEB-INF / private / lib / {application}.jar and everything works fine:-)
    Regards
    Steffen
    PS: Today I found a better way without copying the wsdl-file into the EAR-File. I just didn't use the Enterprise Application Project for the developement of portal services anymore. If you look inside the generated EAR-File, you can see, that you can develop the portal service also by using a simple Dynamic Web Project wrapped by an Enterprise Application Project:-)
    (Rem.: Don't miss the portalapp.xml deployment descriptor).
    If you deploy the Enterprise Project the WSDL-File is always inside the generated EAR-File :-)

  • CAF DB Update for CAF Entity Service from Web Dynpro

    Hi all,
    I have created an entity service in CAF called “Contacts’ which contains the following attributes.
    phoneNo
    cellNo
    emailID.
    Another entity service called "Person" is created. This contains the following attributes.
    personId
    personName
    personAddr
    contactsRef. (Cardinality -> 0..n , Relational Type -> Composition)
    That means Contacts entity service is used within Person entity service. Now it is working fine within CAF service browser. Now the Web Dynpro DC of CAF application is used within another custom Web Dynpro DC project. I want to store data from Web Dynpro.
    Within the context of component controller of  Web Dynpro the structure is like
    APerson
         |_ personId
         |_ personName
         |_ personAddr
         |_ contactsRef
                    |_ phoneNo (Under contactsRef)
                    |_ cellNo (Under contactsRef)
                    |_ emailID (Under contactsRef)
    So I have written the following code within web dynpro custom method.
    APerson person = PersonServiceProxy.create();
    java.util.List ls = new ArrayList();
    for(int i=0; i<4;i++)
    AContacts contact = ContactsServiceProxy.create();
    contact.setCellNo("9092130156");
    contact.setEmailID("[email protected]");
    contact.setPhoneNo("432258");
    contact.getAspect().sendChanges();
    ls.add(contact);
    person.setRelatedModelObjects("contactsRef",ls);
    person.setPersonID("9999");
    person.setPersonName("xyz");
    person.setPersonAddr("ABC, KOL");
    wdContext.nodeAPerson().bind(person);
    person.getAspect().sendChanges();
    CAFServiceFactory.getServiceFacade(idendityDefinition.class);
    After saving the data from Web Dynpro I am trying to test it from CAF service browser. But I am getting only the parent row. I mean only the value of personId, personName and personAddr fields which I have stored from Web Dynpro. But no value is coming within the table for Contacts entity service for composition relation.
    Could anybody help me how can I solve my problem?
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi Chandan,
    Can you do person.getRelatedModelObjects() and get the contact object, to check whether it is null, also check in the CAF DB whether the data you entered is present.
      I am not sure the code is actually adding the contact model object to person.
    Go thru this SDN Blog on usage of the CMI API's, there is a link for CMI documentation in it which might help you get the right code for adding the contact object.

    Hi,
    I have a web application developed with java,jsp and javascript and server used is weblogic.
    Now this application is running fine on my PC. I assume from this that there is no client side Java. Is this right?
    So what steps are required so that I can access the application from other PCs also.If there is no client side Java then you have to do nothing other than make sure your PC can be reached from the other PCs. i.e. no firewalls blocking the access and routing available between the client PC and the server PC.
    I don't see what this has to do with JNLP. Am I missing something?

  • Accessing Oracle LDAP Service from Microsoft SQL*Server2000

    Hi
    We are trying to link onto the Oracle LDAP service from a stored procedure in an SQL*Server 2000 database. But we are not able to succeed.
    Anyone who can share some experience with us on the topic? Is it at all possible to do what we are trying to do? Must we install some driver software (or the like) at the SQL*Server side? Or do we have to write a Java application instead that uses JNDI to access OID and then connect to the SQL*Server?
    Any help is appreciated.
