Access Views through Public Synonyms

Hi Friends,
I have query need to clear. My current application is running on a schema *(s1)* associated with workspace *(w1)*. Now i have made one more schema *(s2)* in the same workspace *(w1)* where i have to create new tables.
The thing is i want to use few tables column of s1 on s2. What will be the best practice for this. I have made views of columns of s1 schema and now i am thinking to create public synonym in s2 schema to access those views of s1 schema. Just want to confirm any changes or updates made on forms or report made on synonym of s2 will reflect in the base table (which is table of s1). Want to clear the concept of synonym through this. I am sure it will not update the table of s1 schema because i have made synonym of that in my s2 schema and for all page creation i am using objects of s2 not objects of s1.
Would like to hear from you experts on this. If you have some other better soln for this, do suggest me. All my intension is to not update the tables of s1, just to use the required columns of s1 schema objects and use it in s2 schema

Hi,
A synonym just helps you to avoid using the schema name before the object name. If you want to use some columns from tables in s1 just do the following:
1. Create the views
2. Create a role for that privilege (for example: select_s1_role), grant select to this role over the views and assign it to s2.
3. Create the synonym in s2 to s1 views (just to avoid put s1. before the view name).
For the steps above is required that s1 and s2 have the proper system privileges.
Kind regards,

  • Problem in CR XI returning Views with PUBLIC synonyms

I am having problem in CR XI returning Views with PUBLIC synonym.
I can see the tables and stored procedures with PUBLIC synonym but not VIEWS.
This is a simple View that has a PUBLIC synonym to it. I have granted the user SELECT access to the underlying Views.
I checked the boxes in Report > Options for all the combinations possible one by one but to no avail.
I connect CR to the instance as a specific user , password. But when I go to Views (and Tables) there is nothing visible.
I tried PRIVATE synonyms and when I go to Views (and Tables) the views are visible, but now the Fields are not visible.
In SQL+ and Oracle SQL Developer connected as the same user , password everything looks ok.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi Wayne,
Sorry for the delay. Not sure where this post came from.... must have been transferred from another forum.
R1 is no longer support nor are updates available. You can upgrade to CR Xi R2 for free, it's end of life now also but has all of the latest patches included.
Install with your XI R1 keycode and then test again.

  • Routing and Remote access - internal network not accessing internet through public network!

    Hello,
    Good Evening to all.
I got an issue in routing and remote access on windows 2003 server.  This server is already configured as File server, domain server and Application server. Also configured as router (through routing & remote access) for connecting three different
network to each other. So This server has three NIC card installed and each NIC card represent separate network.
    three different network are - 192.42.160.0/24 , 192.42.161.0/24, 192.42.162.0/24
Three NIC card installed on server as with following IP address -
    NIC -1 = 192.42.160.220 , Sub- 255.255.255.0 , Gateway - NO
    NIC -2 = 192.42.161.220 , Sub- 255.255.255.0 , Gateway - 192.161.220.112 (This ip for internet access so 4g router IP)
    NIC -3 = 192.42.162.220,  , Sub- 255.255.255.0 , Gateway - NO
Now the issue is I can reach to internet & (also pinging to router ip 192.42.161.112) from only one network that is - 192.42.161.0/24 , BUT when I trying to access internet from another two network (192.42.160.0/24 & 192.42.162.0/24) I cant access
it and moreover can't ping to internet router ip - 192.42.161.112...
So how I can access to internet from other two network also?
I was already configured static routing for all three network but still I was not success. really I don't know what exactly static routing it should be done in routing & remote access so that all three network can reach to internet?
Sorry if I am not able to explain properly. Please let me know if you need more explain on this...
    Thanks to all.

    Dear Milos,
I am happy to hear from you....
1.- Actually the setup was done long before by another guy and right now I don't want to change it.
Nice to hear from you! Thank you so much. Actually this is first time I am using technet forum upon the suggestion from one of the my friend. So any your help from you will help me a great in this issue...
I ran the route print command and given follow are the results.
I have only added the default route as per the below routes. Please guide me know how to add other static routes for three network.

  • Accessing WiFi through public web page

I have bought the HP Envy 4500 to use in a hotel room, where WiFi access to the Internet requires posting an email address on a web page, as a part of the access process. How do I get that web page on the display of my printer in order to find the box on the web page where I put in the email address ?

    Hi,
You need to connect your printer to the internet to be able to send an email to its email address. In this case, the hotel won't let the printer to connect to its network (you can't fill out a form to be able to gain access). Please check the following manual (page #19) to setup an ad hoc network:
       http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00389927.pdf

Why Didn't rakesh can access the bank [Public Synonym] It can be accessed by any schema?

Synonyms (public or private) are just aliases for an object. They do not imply permission to use that object for a particular user.
In your case, any user (except amctestlhr) can do select * from bank and get data from segerp.bank provided they are allowed to select from that table. Without the public synonym, all user who had select privilege would need to either create their own private synonym, or do select * from segerp.bank.

I have privilege to create view.also i can create view on a public synonym of my own objects.for ex,
    SQL> create public synonym cdep for dept;
    Synonym created.
    SQL> create view vcdep as select * from cdep;
    View created.
what could be the reason behind this?is there any privilege required for me.pls suggest me.

    Hi vidusnat!
    This is from Oracle's onlinedocumentation:
    >
    Privileges Required to Create Views
To create a view, you must meet the following requirements:
You must have been granted one of the following system privileges, either explicitly or through a role:
o The CREATE VIEW system privilege (to create a view in your schema)
o The CREATE ANY VIEW system privilege (to create a view in another user's schema)
You must have been explicitly granted one of the following privileges:
o The SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE object privileges on all base objects underlying the view
o The SELECT ANY TABLE, INSERT ANY TABLE, UPDATE ANY TABLE, or DELETE ANY TABLE system privileges
In addition, in order to grant other users access to your view, you must have received object privileges to the base objects with the GRANT OPTION clause or appropriate system privileges with the ADMIN OPTION clause. If you have not, then grantees cannot access your view.
    >
I hope that this will bring a little light into darkness!
    Yours sincerely

  • View Owner and table name of public synonym

A schema user has created a public synonym of a table to another user, say U1.
How could U1 view all the details of the public synonyms, such as a list of all the public synonyms, and the corresponding owner and table names?

    select synonym_name
           , table_owner
           , table_name
    from all_synonyms
    where owner = 'PUBLIC'
    order by 2, 3
/Be warned that this is likely to be a very long list, so you might want to also filter on
and table_owner not ('SYS', 'SYSTEM')or similar.

  • JDev app wizard unable to see public synonyms

When running through reverse engineering to create middle-tier entities/views/assoc/links, the wizard was unable to give me the option of choosing from among public synonyms. I checked under SYSTEM, SYS users but the synonyms I wanted did not appear.
When I created non-public synonyms in a schema, JDev did find them.
PS: The synonyms access tables and views on another server using database links.
    null

Are you logging on as yourself or as the owner of the objects? If you are logging on as yourself then you will only see the objects owned/created by you.
If you want to see objects owned by other users click "other users" and click on the user that owns the objects that you want to view. If you do not have 'select' privs on the object then you will not be able to see the object in another users account.

    Hi,
As I say, when we access the synonym (that links to a table through a DBLINK) we have this issue. The code can be as simple as
    DECLARE
    var1 int := 0;
    CURSOR S1 IS SELECT col1, col2 from TB_DBLINK;
    BEGIN
    LOOP through Cursor S1
    END;
    Here the TB_DBLINK is:
CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TB_DBLINK FOR TB_DBLINK@DBL1
The TB_DBLINK on the DBL1 is also a Public Synonym... So it means that a Public Synonym is being created for a Public Synonym!
Able to access this using SQL Plus simple select though :(

  • Cannot see columns for some of the public synonyms

    Background Info
I am using the Oracle 8.1.6 JDBC driver and connecting to Oracle 8 database. My plan is to give the user the option to initially select the type of tables that they want to see i.e. USER tables, SYSTEM tables, VIEWS and SYNONYMS. Based on the user selection I first display all the tables (for that type) and for each table selected by a user display the relevant columns.
I am doing this by using the DatabaseMetaData.getTables () and then the DatabaseMetaData.getColumns () methods
    Problem
When I use these methods for SYNONYMS I cannot see the columns for lot of the public synonyms. Some the SYNONYMS for which I cannot see the columns are
    ALL_JOBS, COLS, CLU, CAT, TABS.
As part of the debugging process, I found a java file OracleDatabaseMetadata.java file (as part of 8.0.4 sample files). In this file I see that calls are being made against ALL_TAB_COLUMNS. For each of the synonym that I am seeing the problem, there are no columns in ALL_TAB_COLUMNS. But when I do a desc ALL_JOBS in SQLPLUS, I get the columns for ALL_JOBS. So now I am confused on what is happening in the 8.1.6 JDBC driver.
Has anyone else run into the same problem.
    Thanks

There are some cases where Discoverer cannot determine with certainty that the Totals or subtotals you create will be correct. It flags those totals as Values that cannot be aggregated. Go to Options-> Sheet Format and you can set what string you would like to see placed in those cells that Discoverer determines cannot be aggregated correctly.
Assuming that the blank totals are non-aggregable by Discoverer, there are some things you can do to to alter either your business area or worksheet or calculation that will enable you to get the totals you want. As this analysis takes some time and iterations, it is usually best handled through Oracle Support. Also see the doc and RN references to the EnhancedAggregationStrategy in the Preferences.
Also, given the version you are using it seems that you have just started using 9.0.2. You should strongly consider upgrading to OracleAS 10g (9.0.4) or at least upgrade to the latest 9.0.2 patch -> 9.0.2.54.

  • Table based on Public Synonyms

I have 2 schemas and have created public synonyms and given access from the 1 schema to the 2nd schema.
When I create Page / Region of type Report and form (or form) in schema 2, the table name does not accept the public synonyms defined in schema 1. I can create a report region manually using the the SQL Report and select col1, col2 from tab1_of_schema1 but while using the wizard and selecting the table, am unable to use the table ? I even tried schema1.tab1_of_schema1 but it gives " * Table / View does not exist." error. Why is this ?
Is this a limitation ? I do not want to create views and write instead-of triggers.

This was raised during the evaluation of 2.2, and this was the response:
Sorry, don't know if this is already addressed, (but i cannot test this in 2.2, with my scenario, so would appreciate you mention if it is handled). I have 2 schemas, schema1 and schema2. There are tables in schema1 which have public synonyms and grant all access to schema2.
While creating a new application in schema2 and creating Page, we cannot select public synonyms defined in schema1, and have to unnecessarily create views in schema2 (this is not nice for us). Even if view is created, it gives an error saying " Source tables for forms and tabular forms must have a primary key. " why should views have primary key ? Either do not allow views there, or ask for the primary key (like in create region). Sequences defined in schema1(again public synonyms) are not accessible.(we have to write triggers or custom pl/sql for the same).
    Response
We do not do very well with objects that are not owned by the schema assoicated with your current application. I have logged an enhancement request for 3.0 to see if we can improve this all around.

  • Getting error while accessing view

Getting following error message while trying to access a view (Database Version 9.2.0.4) through JDeveloper preview version 10.1.3. Accessing the same view through different client tool (DBDevPartner) is occurring without error.
    The error its throwing are:
ORA-01874: time zone hours must be between -12 and 13
    ORA-02063: preceding line from CDFTS_SYSADM_DBL
    Any insight?

    Hi,
According to the documentation for error ORA-01874,it says:
Cause: The time zone hour specified was not in the valid range.
Action: Specify a time zone hour between -12 and 13.
How was this View initially created?
Can you access this View using SQL*Plus?
Can you post the SQL for the View?

  • A View Through Windows 8.1.1

    A View Through Windows 8.1.1
There above opens fine for me; sorry, didn't expect anyone would have difficulty w/ it.
Windows 8.1.1 or Windows 8.1 Update or KB2919355
Call it what you like, a rose by any other name is, still, a rose.
And this has brought some pretty rosy stuff to Win 8.1.  8.1 delivered a plethora of cool things to the initial Windows 8.0 platform but, I am not here, right now, to discuss that gold mine but, rather its Update, Win8.1.1. This small yet,
packed Update comes or will as an Auto Update via WU.  It installs quickly and easily.
Basically, its only requirement is having Windows 8.1 in place… an 8.0 device must be Upgraded to Windows 8.1 and then on to this Update.
Now, even though 8.1 responded to User feedback and requests, 8.1.1 has tried to take that endeavor, even, further.
Much of that is in regard to making the OS more intuitive, more familiar and more mouse friendly, catering to non-Touch environments and to have some things more overt.
A good portion of the Update impact on both Consumers and Businesses whilst some are value items specifically for enterprise.
Firstly, let’s address the ‘common ground’ and then look at the assets to or for businesses.
I will not delve into extreme details for this discussion but, will provide links which, will give you the full story.
However, the links go to the usual, sterile, propaganda and although, certainly, informative & enlightening, not the personal perspective that I would like to share, at this time.
I write in several tech forums, ergo, I have seen what people like, dislike or want.
8.1 does, indeed, indulge what people have been expressing.
It, also, I feel, helps make people enjoy using Store APPs more and helps draw then into the world of APPs.
A major part of the Update is in regard to APP handling and usage.
To me it’s mostly about APPs but, there are some other items so let’s tackle them, first.
May seem like little things but, sometimes doesn’t take much to make people happy.
And this does destroy the suggestion that MS doesn’t listen to End Users or care what they think or say.
On Start there, now, are Power & Search icons.  There are Rt Clk menus attached to the Start Tiles.
There’s a Search box on the ALL Applications screen.  Back to the Store APPS enhancements because I suggest, this is the, really, cool bit.
Some people have struggled over using the Switcher Bar, opening APPs, closing APPs and positioning and maneuvering or manipulating them.
Well, this is where things get exciting… NOW, the Store APPs can sit on the Task Bar
and they can be pinned.  NOW, they can be closed or minimised with a bar at the top of them.
NOW, as many as four can be enjoy with greater flexibility than ever before.
All of this making the OS easier and more similar to what people are accustom to having and doing.
And having APP icons permanently available on the task Bar is great since, any that are used consistently to get shut down by the OS on the Switcher Bar after a period of time. Nor does one have to pop out the Switcher Bar to access an APP.
Lastly, to carry the familiar Desktop experience across ALL screens, the Task Bar shows on every screen, even if it is a Store APP, Start or ALL Applications.
There are, also, a number of things that are not quite so obvious or superficial, some under-the-covers stuff, plus things relative to business/enterprise issues.
One thing having positive impact right across the board is support for low cost hardware.
With Windows 8.1 Update there is a continuance to fine-tune Windows performance to deliver a great user experience on the broad range of Windows devices. Specifically, with memory and disk space optimization in Windows 8.1 Update we now
enable Windows to run on even lower cost hardware with as low as 1GB of RAM and a 16GB hard drive.
So you ca see it is possible to convey the message that using the OS can, now, thanks to this Update be, even more enjoyable and appealing than it, already, was.
Things easier to find or see and done in established, already known ways, methods and comfort zones.
End Users will like what Win8.1.1 brings and offers them… so spread the word.
Now, for some important ‘bullets’ provided by the Update that IT Pros should know about and be able to enthusiastically impart, particularly, to thrilled Enterprise Users on top of the aspects, already, mentioned that are for everyone.
    >> Improvements to take advantage of new hardware innovation and support the latest devices, such as devices based on 64 bit Baytrail™ processors.
    >> Extended Mobile Device Management (MDM)
    >> Easier app deployment and management is app side loading
    And, also, exciting
licensing changes come with Windows 8.1 Update.
The big caveat here, the meaningful take-away for y’all, in my view, is there are many desirable facets contained in the Windows 8.1.1 Update.
It is a strength to know this content so it can be transmitted to End Users both, Consumer and Enterprise customers and clients.
There are things for which business folks will be grateful.
There are things that make the User Experience nicer for anyone and everyone.
KB2919355 may be small but, in my view, it packs a big punch.

    The view from here, Drew:
Reading around the edges of the error message, are you seriously trying to find things of merit in the spring update?  They seem pretty few and far between to me.  800 MB (er, 200, er, who knows) for what?  a few dozen bugfixes?
If you know of something of substance in the update, please share, because I'm not finding much.
Why has there been so much hype about this version?  It was "leaked", then it has been getting press like what you're trying to show here.  Isn't the hype actually supposed to come with some substance as well?  Where is
    that substance?
