Accessing a hidden variable with super

Hello,
I have three classes:
-Animal
-Mammal (derives from Animal)
-Cat (derives from Mammal)
Each have a variable called "age". How do I access the "age" value of Animal from Cat? (In other words can I go up TWO levels from Cat?) I tried "super.super.age" but the compiler balks.
Thanks in advance,
Balteo

JLS 8.3 Hiding by Fields
A hidden field can be accessed by using a qualified name (if it is static) or by using a field access expression (15.11) that contains the keyword super or a cast to a superclass type. See 15.11.2 for discussion and an example.
JLS 8.4.6.1 Overriding (by Instance Methods)
An overridden method can be accessed by using a method invocation expression (15.12) that contains the keyword super. Note that a qualified name or a cast to a superclass type is not effective in attempting to access an overridden method; in this respect, overriding of methods differs from hiding of fields. See 15.12.4.9 for discussion and examples of this point.
JLS 8.4.6.2 Hiding (by Class Methods)
A hidden method can be accessed by using a qualified name or by using a method invocation expression (15.12) that contains the keyword super or a cast to a superclass type. In this respect, hiding of methods is similar to hiding of fields.

    hi ram,
    as i mentioned i m creating hidden variables & i m doing some validation on form submit.
    The following is js code snippet for validation.
    for (var i = 0; i < document.forms[0].admissionRank.length; i++)
    admissionRank = document.forms[0].admissionRank.value;
    for(var j = 0; j < document.forms[0].allAdmissionRank.length; j++)
    //alert ("admissionRank : " + admissionRank + " document.forms[0].allAdmissionRank[" + j + "].value : " + document.forms[0].allAdmissionRank[j].value + "\ndocument.forms[0].allApplicantID[" + j + "].value : " + document.forms[0].allApplicantID[j].value + " document.forms[0].applicantID[" + i + "].value : " + document.forms[0].applicantID[i].value);
    if(admissionRank == document.forms[0].allAdmissionRank[j].value && document.forms[0].allApplicantID[j].value != document.forms[0].applicantID[i].value && admissionRank != "" && document.forms[0].allAdmissionRank[j].value != "")
    flag = false;
    document.forms[0].admissionRank[i].focus();
    document.forms[0].admissionRank[i].select();
    break;
    if (flag == false)
    break;
    In this validation i want admissionRank to be removed from the original arraylist if following condition gets satisfied

  • How can I run two different vi's in same project which are accessing same global variable with out effecting the speed of the execution of both the vi's

    Hi
    I have build an Labview project with FPGA target .  I have configured an FPGA VI and an host Vi to acquire data and logged the data to a file and stored the latest data in a global variable simultanously. I have configured one more VI in the same project  to access the global variable.  I have build a dll to access both the VI as functions in LabWindows/CVI code.  My task in CVI is to update configured GUI with latest data periodically and run the  host VI continously for a long time and log the data to a file. GUI should update for every one second with latest data for this I am using the second VI in which I am accessing the global varibale in which the latest data has been stored in host VI.

  • Accessing session variables with php

    I am trying to access the  session variable  $_SESSION['MM_Username']  in one of my php pages, but it is somehow showing empty (i.e it does not contain the username that was entered during login).

  • Help with number in hidden variable to send form

    Hi all,
    I have created a form in Flash and I need to send some hidden data. The problem is that some of the hidden data variables are numbers. This worked fine in the HTML form. It does not work in Flash. Can you take a quick look at the following code and let me know if there is a way I can do this? Do you have access to / knowledge of the file that processes the data that gets sent.  Yo may have to add some code at the receiving end to take those variables you send and assign them to what would normally accomodate them at the receiving end.
    (Sorry if I confused your original description and stated what was already obvious to you.)

  • Variable with RSCUR transaction code - To Be translated

    Hi All,
    I have created a variable with RSCUR transacton code to get user input date.
    This variable prompts in the sap query.
    Upon my SAP super query we have built an universe, to build bo reports.
    As this variable is created with RSCUR transaction code, it is not reflecting with universe designer to get translated.
    Can you please provide me any approach, on taging this variable with other dimension at sap query level or any other approach to solve this issue.
    My requirement is to include it with sap query, to get reflected with universe.
    Please let me know the approach on passing values from one varaible to other variable, which i guess would solve this issue.
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
    U said the t-code RSCUR  its for currecy transation but i dont no y ur talking about date that and all ..
    the variables in bex query are reflected to universe as a filters .
    i think 1st u need to check the check box in bex query properties i.e "Query allow to external access " then only the query will comes in universe level .
    if u want to any changes in the universe go to file and import the universe and then save finally u have to export then only its stored in the CMS ...
    i think its needful to u ................

  • How do I access the DCJMS* variables in my response SOAP:Header ?

    Hi all,
    I have set up a sync / async Integration Process in XI
    This is initiated by a SAP R/3 transaction that calls a synchronous function to enter XI
    Once in the Bridge, a JMS receiver adapter sends out an asynchronous request message from XI to MQ
    A correlation allows the JMS sender adapter to return an asynchronous response message from MQ to XI back into my the Integration Process
    I have set up the JMS sender adapter configuration to return the DC (dynamic configuration) variables in the <SOAP:Header> of the XI response message along with the payload
    You can see that the DCJMS* variables are returned below

    <b>Question</b>
    I want to access the DCJMS* variables but am not sure how to go about it as the
    variables exist in the <SOAP:Header>?
    I followed the SAP documentation to access adapter-specific attributes (refer to link http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/14/80243b4a66ae0ce10000000a11402f/frameset.htm )
    I have used the following code to create a user-defined function for the accessing adapter specific attributes (similar to the link)
    public String Get_Msgid(Container container){
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get
    (StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create
    ("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/JMS","DCJMSMessageID");
    String jmsMsgID = conf.get(key);
    return jmsMsgID;
    <b>Question</b>
    Do I use message mapping to extract the DCJMS* variables?
    <b>Question</b>
    If so then which message is used for the source message so that I can access the <SOAP:Header>?  Eg do I use the response message type or is there a trick to accessing the SOAP:Header?
    <b>Question</b>
    Do I use the user-defined function (like above)?
    I performed the following steps
    •     Opened the message mapping in edit mode
    •     Created the user-defined function using the graphical editor
    •     Saved the message mapping
    •     I have not connected the user-defined function to any of the xml tags in either the source or target messages
    When I go to test the message mapping I am getting the following error

  • Issue - Formula Variable with Replacement Path

    Hi,
    Is it mandatory to include the base characteristics in the rows on which the formula variable(replacement path) is based on. As long as the base char is in the rows the variable works fine. The moment I take that off, the variable doesn't produce any result. I know the char can be put in the rows and can be hidden, but then in that case I don't get the desired aggregation level.
    Has anybody come across this probelm and managed to sort this out? Kindly suggest any solution.
    Thanks,
    Anurag.

    Hi,
    a formula variable with replacement path only works if the replacement object is in the query in either the rows or colums. The data can never be aggregated on a higher level then the infoObject in the replacement path. If you want a higher aggregation you can add a new key figure as an attribute to your infoObject and fill it with the value you want in the loading process. You can use that key figure in your queries every way you want.
    Kind regards,
    Alex

  • Problem with registering device in Sybase Control Center with SUP 2.2 SP04

    Hi,
    I have Sybase Unwired Platform SP04, and I am trying to register my Android device in Sybase Control Center. I registered application connection with HWC as a template. I also installed 2 Sybase apps from Google Play Store on my Android device - Sybase Hybrid Web Container and Sybase Mobile Workflow 2.1. When I tried connecting to Sybase Control Center from my Android device using Sybase Mobile Workflow 2.1, there were no log updates at all. I entered IP address of my computer where I installed SUP   as server name. It seemed like Sybase Mobile Workflow 2.1 did not work at all on my Android device.  However, there are some log messages when I try to connect to SCC through Sybase Hybrid Web Container - "Engine Startup", "Queued Settings Request", "Communication Error".
    I was able to successfully register my Android Emulator on SCC using Hybrid Web Container app and test my hybrid web app. What could be the reason for not being able to register a real device on SCC? Is this the wrong Sybase app used on the device? Or some kind of network issue? Both my android device and my computer are connected to the same home WiFi network and have 192.168.x.y IP addresses, which are local IP addresses accordng to my knowledge.
    I was told that if I am unable to open SCC on the device by typing https://<IP_address>:8283/scc in a browser, then my device won't be able to access SCC. And, in fact, my Android device cannot open SCC in its browser, while my Android emulator can.
    I have tried using USB or WiFi tethering to so that my laptop actually uses exactly the same Internet connection as my Android phone, but this didn't help either. If someone has any idea on how to fix this, your help will be appreciated!
    - Jake Alexander

    When I open that page on my device's browser, it says that my browser couldn't connect to it.
    I don't think my Firewall blocks port 5001, because I have never set it to do it, and I don't see any outbound or inbound rules on my Windows Firewall to block port 5001. I don't think that my WiFi network would block port 5001, but I can't be sure of it. However, I was told that if I create a portable WiFi hotspot and connect my computer with SUP on it    to the hotspot, then my computer and Android device would be on the same network even without Internet Connection, and I would be able to connect to SCC on my device, However, even in this case it did not work.
    Thanks,
    Jake

  • Not able to access Network Shared Variable when deployed in PC

    Initially, when we deploy a Network Published Shared Variable in PC and try to access the same (Read/Write) from RT, we get an error/warning "-1950679023". But when we access the same variable from the PC, it works fine. In the distributed system manager, we can see the variable getting deployed. Also the value changes in Distributed System Manager if we write a value from PC. The attached image "Shared variable Issue.png" will give more understanding of this issue.
    The other way round it works fine i.e deploying in RT side and accessing from both RT and PC is working fine.
    We also see that the network adapter settings is not loading properly in MAX, if at all we install any software in RT. With no software installed, it loads properly.
    The following were the steps that we tried to solve the issue.
    1.Flushing the entire NI software and Re- installing again
    2.Formatting the RT(PXI).
    3.Removing the EtherCAT Card and testing.
    4.Checked the network properties of the RT network.
    5.Checked the IP/Subnet/Gateway settings.
    6.Checked Firewall Settings, If Shared Variable Engine is accessible.
    Attachments:
    Shared variable Issue.png ‏491 KB

    First Root cause needs to be identified before any actions.
    I would suggest first check if you can access the shared variable hosted in PC from RT using other ways like using SVE API (Logos and PS protocols, Datasocket etc..)
    Check if antivirus or firewall is playing...
    Check the same experiment with some other PC if you can.
    You can also try creating another Shared Variable in RT and binding the same to the PC and try to access it...
    Since you have did all the reinstallations already
    Best Regards,
    Vijay.

  • How can I get the variable with the value from Thread Run method?

    We want to access a variable from the run method of a Thread externally in a class or in a method. Even though I make the variable as public /public static, I could get the value till the end of the run method only. This is sample code:

         public static void main(String df[])
    sampleThread sathr= new sampleThread();
    sathr.start();
    System.out.println("This is the value from the run method "+sathr.x);
    // I should get Inside the run method::: But I get only Inside
    class sampleThread extends Thread
         public String x="Inside";
         public void run()
              x+="the run method";
    NB: if i write the variable in to a file I am able to read it from external method. This I dont want to do

    We want to access a variable from the run method of a
    Thread externally in a class or in a method. I presume you mean a member variable of the thread class and not a local variable inside the run() method.
    Even
    though I make the variable as public /public static, I
    could get the value till the end of the run method
    only. After that scope of the variable gets lost
    resulting to null value in the called method/class..
    I find it easier to implement the Runnable interface rather than extending a thread. This allows your class to extend another class (ie if you extend thread you can't extend something else, but if you implement Runnable you have the ability to inherit from something). Here's how I would write it:
    public class SampleSynchronisation
      public static void main(String[] args)
        SampleSynchronisation app = new SampleSynchronisation();
      public SampleSynchronisation()
        MyRunnable runner = new MyRunnable();
        new Thread(runner).start();
        // yield this thread so other thread gets a chance to start
        Thread.yield();
        System.out.println("runner's X = " + runner.getX());
      class MyRunnable implements Runnable
        String X = null;
        // this method called from the controlling thread
        public synchronized String getX()
          return X;
        public void run()
          System.out.println("Inside MyRunnable");
          X = "MyRunnable's data";
      } // end class MyRunnable
    } // end class SampleSynchronisation>
    public class SampleSynchronisation
    public static void main(String df[])
    sampleThread sathr= new sampleThread();
    sathr.start();
    System.out.println("This is the value from the run
    method "+sathr.x);
    // I should get Inside the run method::: But I get
    only Inside
    class sampleThread extends Thread
    public String x="Inside";
    public void run()
    x+="the run method";
    NB: if i write the variable in to a file I am able to
    read it from external method. This I dont want to do

    /* I should get:
    Inside the run method

    Inside*/
    class sampleThread extends Thread
         public String x="Inside";

    Your main thread continues to run after the sathr thread is completed, consequently the output is done before the sathr thread has modified the string. You need to make the main thread pause, this will allow sathr time to run to the point where it will modify the string and then you can print it out. Another way would be to lock the object using a synchronized block to stop the main thread accessing the string until the sathr has finished with it.

  • Not able to access parent instance variable in outside of methods in child

    Hi,
    I am not getting why i am not able to access parent class instance variable outside the child class intance methods.
    class Parent
         int a;
    class Child extends Parent
         a = 1; // Here i am getting a compilation error that Syntax error on token "a", VariableDeclaratorId expected after this token
         void someMethod()
              a = 1;  // Here i am not getting any compilation error while accessing parent class variable
    }Can any one please let me know exact reason for this and what is the error talks about?
    Thanks,
    Uday

    You can only put assignments or expressions inside methods, constructors or class initializors, or when declaring a variable.
    It has nothing to the with Child extending Parent.
    class Parent {
        int a = 1;
        { a = 1; }
        public Parent() {
            a = 1;
       public void method() {
           a = 1;
    }
