Accessing add() methods through bean properties ?!

I hope this question is trivial...
Is there a defined way of using add(*) methods through bean properties ?
Seems a little odd that Swing components can't be added to a container in a simple "bean-like" way....is there a set*(*) method I've missed ? I'm aware of the getComponents() method on Container...but there's no setComponents(Component []) method.
Thanks,
Michael.

Thank you for the repsonse....but..
Wouldn't that mean that I'd have to sub-class all the Components I wanted to use....just to add the set*(*) method....isn't there a tidier way ?
I really find this strange...(I can think of many examples where accessing the add*(*) methods through introspection (possibly by providing set*(*) methods) would be extremely useful....but, staying in a Swing context....)
If you wanted to create an application that can load, edit and save GUI forms (as many already have). Having all Swing components stick to the javaBeans spec. is very useful. The application can use introspection to grab all the properties of a component, without having any hard-coded logic on dealing with specific classes. Users can then provide their own extensions to the components palette, and by sticking to the javaBeans convention, have the GUI editor expose those properties.
But....to compose components together (a fundamental concept) the editor must be provided with "hard-coded" logic that knows how to deal specifically with Components (in that they have an add(*) method).
This must also be a problem with the XMLDecoder class ?!
When encoding a Swing component, the XMLEncoder can use all the get*() methods (including getComponents()) to persist the Container, its properties, and any sub-components....fine.
But, when decoding this information, all the properties can be set through the usual bean mechanism (using the corresponding setPropertyName(*) method) except the sub-components....there is no setComponents(*) method.
How does the XMLDecoder get around this problem ?
Does it "know" that when it gets to the "components" property of a Swing component, it must call the add(*) method instead...?
Thanks,
Michael

  • Calling session bean's business method through web dynpro component

    Hi All,
    Can anybody tell me how to call a session bean's methods through a web dynpro WITHOUT java-model or web service model ??
    I have following scenario:-
    1. Stateless Session bean having two business methods
    2. Web Dynpro component
    3.Now i want to call business methods without using any model. I have got following piece of code but I dont know how to go about it.
    4.Where do i have to set JNDI name for session bean? which interface will be looked for?
    5. Do I have to declare public part for EJB DC? If yes, how?
    //This is inside web dynpro component
    InitialContext   context = new InitialContext();
    o = context.lookup(JNDIName);
    TestSessionbeanHome homeRef = (TestSessionbeanHome) PortableRemoteObject.narrow( o,
    TestSessionbeanHome.class);
    TestSessionbean beanRef = homeRef.create();
    <returnValue> = beanRef.<ejb method name>
    Please help to get a step-by-step approach to this case.
    Thanks and regards,
    Amey Mogare

    Hi,
    If  I comment out the part that is using session bean's business method, DC is building fine.
    And if I uncomment, then compiler is unabl eto resolve business method(s).
    And i would like to mention that my EJB + J2EE App DC is building properly, but it havent yet deployed properly as I am waiting for data-source-alias name prefix to be configured by ERP team. So will this be a reason why Web Dynpro DC is not able to resolve business methods ??
    Because Web Dynpro DC is able to resolved all interfaces of Session bean and entity bean. But when it comes to business method, its not able to resolve.
    Any more ideas why it is not happening?
    Pls help.
    Now i went through some forum posts regarding this and found that we also need to add EJB DC to Java Build Path for WebDynproDC>Properties>Java Build Path.
    I did this and now it is able to resolve business methods and DTOs as well. So to summarize I did following:-
    1. Added EJB DC (complete DC) as a Used DC to Web Dynpro DC with Buid-n-Deploy-n-Run time dependency
    2. Added Sharing reference of J2EE application DC to Web Dynpro DC -->Properties
    This reference I constructed as follows:-
    <vendorname>/<name of j2ee application as appearing under display name tag in application.xml (replacing '/' with '~')>
    So my Sharing Reference becomes:- <vendorname>/reqpstapscreqpstapja_reqid
    3. Added EJB DC to Java Build Path in Web Dynpro DC's properties
    4. Then I added following piece of code to get object of SessionBean class
    InitialContext context = new InitialContext();
    Object o = context.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/SessionRequestIDBean");
    SessionRequestIDHome homeRef = (SessionRequestIDHome) PortableRemoteObject.narrow(o, SessionRequestIDHome.class);
    SessionRequestID beanRef = homeRef.create();
    beanRef.<business method>
    But After doing this I am facing another problem :-
    The build fails saying it is not able find the package for DTOs. But when I see the Component Controller's code it is not showing any red or yellow marks.
    Can anybody pls help me out here?

  • Accessing view object class (impl) method from bean (or vice versa)

    Halo everyone, I am using JDeveloper 11.1.2.1.0
    I have a UsersViewImpl class with a method which refresh the user table like below.
    public void resetEmployeeSearch() {
    removeApplyViewCriteriaName("viewCriteria");
    executeQuery();
    and I have a UserBean class with a method which reset the search fields values like below.
    public void resetInput(ActionEvent actionEvent) {
    ........RichInputText = input ...
    input.setValue("");
    AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(searchForm);
    I would like to implement it in such a way that, once I press a button, both methods will be called.
    I have tried to call from bean method using UsersViewImpl vs = new UsersViewImpl ..... which is wrong and wont work.
    I have read about doing something like ViewObject vo = am.findViewObject("DeptView1") but I duno how to use it because I cant have a proper example.
    Any suggestion on accessing view object class (impl) method from bean (or vice versa)?
    Or is there any way to combine both method in the same class ?
    Thank you :(

    User, if you get class not found exceptions you need to tell us which classes you can't find. The JSFUtils and ADFUtils classes needing some other libraries which should already be part of your Fusion Web Application template (which your adf application should be based on). If you did not use this application template, you may have to add some libraries yourself.
    What is the diff of using the ADFUtils and OperationBinding way?
    The ADFUtils can get you access to the application module which you then use to call exposed methods on. The disadvantage of doing this is that you have to implement your own exception framework which then handles exceptions thrown by the application module. An other thing is that if you e.g. alter a VO which you use on the page this changes are not seen on the page until you refresh the page. The binding layer does not know about these changes so the iterators (which are used on the page to show the data) are not refreshed and so you don't see the changes.
    In general you should avoid using the application modul in a managed bean method and always use the binding layer (OperationBinding) to call methods. This ensures that exceptions are all handled the same way and that changes to the data model are reflected in the GUI.

  • Database access through Beans

    My question is about high level design. I've written some JSP pages and some very simple JavaBeans that work on Tomcat.
    Now I'm trying to design a Database access layer
    I want to have a connection pool class and some other business logic classes communicating with each other.
    How can I start a bean and keep it running and how do I access its methods from other beans?
    Is this even feasible?
    if I declare the scope of the bean as the application would I have to put it in all the pages of the web site or not?
    Also, should I just forget about JavaBeans and do Servlets? Maybe EJB is better for this?
    Please provide some examples in your answer if possible.
    Thanks,
    David A

    My question is about high level design. I've written
    some JSP pages and some very simple JavaBeans that
    work on Tomcat.
    Now I'm trying to design a Database access layerThe design and implementation of a persistence layer has nothing at to do with how the data is eventually displayed. Persistence is the same whether you use a Web or a Swing interface, so the question about Tomcat is moot.
    I'd look at Martin Fowler's "Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture" for its chapter on persistence or the Hibernate object/relational mapping tool.
    I want to have a connection pool class and some other
    business logic classes communicating with each other.Personally, I prefer to let Tomcat handle the database connection pool. I use the Commons DBCP class and configure my connections that way. Then I have my Java code do a JNDI lookup to access them, do the required database operation, and then close the connection to return it to the pool.
    How can I start a bean and keep it running and how do I access its methods from other beans?
    Is this even feasible? I'm not sure I know what you mean by "start a bean and keep it running". HTTP is a request/response, stateless protocol. You should think about operations as being initiated by a request and then going out of scope once the response is generated, much like the protocol itself. You don't keep a bean running in that case.
    if I declare the scope of the bean as the application would I have to put it in all the pages of the web
    site or not?You have to <jsp:useBean> in every page that needs it. Whether or not application scope is really appropriate or necessary is another matter.
    Also, should I just forget about JavaBeans and do Servlets? You can and should use JSP for View, a servlet as your front controller, and JavaBeans to do the work in the back. It's not an either/or question. You really should be using all three.
    Maybe EJB is better for this?You use EJBs if you have a highly transactional, distributed, clustered application. If none of those things apply to you, there's no reason why you must use EJBs.
    Have a look at the Struts and Spring frameworks.

  • Few basic doubts about accessing AM from backing bean class

    Hi ADF experts,
    I have just started working in ADF Faces.I made a sample search page.My page is attached to a managed backing bean. I have attached command button on my page to a custom method in backing bean class.
    So on, click of button this method is called in backing bean.Now, i have few doubts:
    1)How to get values of various UI beans in this event code?
    2)I am accesing AM , in my method with this code:
    FacesContext facesContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ExternalContext extContext = facesContext.getExternalContext();
    Application app = facesContext.getApplication();
    DCBindingContainer binding = (DCBindingContainer)app.getVariableResolver().resolveVariable(facesContext, "bindings");
    //Accessing AM
    ApplicationModule am = binding.getDataControl().getApplicationModule();
    iS this correct ?
    3) After getting handle of am how to call my custom method in AM Class?there was "invokeMethod" API in application module class in OAF, is there any such method here?
    Please help me.

    Thanks for ur response Frank, actually I am from OA Framework back ground.It would be great if help us a little with ur valuble thoughts.
    OA Framework also uses bc4j in model layer of framework. We have a requirement where our existing developers from OA Framework have to move to ADF to make a new application where time lines are quite strict.If this would not be possible we will switch to plain jsp and jdbc,but our tech experts say ADF Faces is the best tech.
    In OA Framework, Application Module is key class for all busiess logic and Controller is used for page navigation. So, I m just trying to find the same similarity , where we write we add all event codes in custom action methods in the backing bean class of page, which we consider equivalent to process form request method in Controller class of OAF.
    But there are two things, I still want to know:
    1)While page render, how to call specific AM methods(like setting where clause of certain VOs)
    2)In action methods, the way i described(I found that in one thread only)to access AM, what is wrong in that?Also, I went through
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2004/09/23/notYetDocumentedAdfSampleApplications.html
    where coule of examples use similar approach to access AM from backing bean class and call custom methods of AM(Doing various, deletes etc from VOs).
    3)In these methods can we set any property of beans on the page, I am asking because in OAF, generally we use PPR for js alternatives.But all properties of beans cannot be set in post event.
    Thanks and Regards

    Retrieve values from Java class to JSP
    URGENT! How to call a java class from JSP.
    Calling a java method from jsp file -
    this thread is same as my issue
    Thanks,

    1st. The classes must be in packages. 2nd, the package that they are in must be under the WEB-INF/classes directory. 3rd Look on google and/or this site for web application deployment

  • Cannot access instance method

    I want to get a Vector obj result (inside my JSP page) by accessing an instance method of a class I've put in a package and I keep getting a java.lang.NullPointerException.
    The skeleton of the class in the package is:
    MyClass.java
    package myPackage;
    import java.util.*;
    public class myClass {
    String string_A;
    String string_B;
    public myClass(String s_A, String s_B) {
    string_A = s_A;
    string_B = s_B;
    public Vector getVector() {
    Vector myVector = new Vector();
    myVector.add(string_A);
    myVector.add(string_B);
    return myVector;
    ... and the JSP that goes the wrong way is:
    Page.jsp
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=WINDOWS-1253"%>
    <%-- The following String comes from HTTP POST--%>
    <% String request_A = request.getParameter("foo"); %>
    <% String request_B = request.getParameter("bar"); %>
    <html><body><p>
    <% try {
    myPackage.myClass myClassObj =
    new myPackage.myClass(request_A, request_B);
    try {
    Vector v = myClassObj.getVector();
    } catch (Exception e) {
    out.println("Cannot access Obj Method: " + e); (*)
    } catch (Exception e) {
    out.println("Cannot Initialize Obj: " + e);
    %>
    </p></body></html>
    When I run the above JSP page I get:
    "Cannot access obj method : java.lang.NullPointerException" (*)
    Why can't I access this method?!?

    it doesn't matter whether they are in same package or different packages as long as we can resolve the scope properly . Here I assum e that Prog1.java is top level container which is holding the instacnes of prog2 and prog3 . now some action of prog2 should invoke some method on prog3 . Here prog2 doesn't know the existence of prog3 as two are independent and only thing thats linking both of them is Prog1.So its staright forward that any such communication should happen through Prog1. While instantiating Porg2 set the reference of Prog1 in prog2 . soemthing like Prog2 p2 = new Prog2(); p.setTop(this);
    Ofcourse this involves code change in Porg2 . then from the listenere you can simply call method m3 in prog3 like p2.getTop().p3.m3(); hope this helps..

  • Access page method from template

    Hi,
    I'm using JDev11/ADF and I need to implement this scenario : A have a page fragment based on a page template. This page has a backing bean with a class exteded from a generic class. I have some generic buttons in the page template. Theses buttons need to call a method in the base backing bean class through the page's backing bean. I read Frank's solution to access the page's binding from the template :
    [http://thepeninsulasedge.com/frank_nimphius/2007/11/23/adf-faces-rc-implementation-strategies-for-global-buttons-in-page-templates/]
    but is there a way to access a method in the page's bean from the template (A listener for instance ?)...
    tks.

    Hi,
    what is missing is a method attribute like in declarative components. This however does not exist for templates yet. So there is no other solution yet than to invent some kind of contract.

  • Accessing WS Service through proxy server

    Working with WLS 8.1.4 i cannot access remote service through proxy server.
    I have setted up everithing needed and more:
    http.proxyHost=HOST
    http.proxyPort=8080
    http.proxyUser=WIN_DOMAIN\USERNAME
    http.proxyPassword=PASSWORD
    http.agent="Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0" weblogic.net.proxyAuthenticatorClassName=MyProxyAuthenticator
    weblogic.webservice.transport.http.proxy.host=HOST
    weblogic.webservice.transport.http.proxy.port=8080
    weblogic.webservice.client.proxyusername=WIN_DOMAIN\USERNAME
    weblogic.webservice.client.proxypassword=PASSWORD
    weblogic.webservice.verbose=true
    weblogic.webservice.binding.verbose=true
    weblogic.webservice.transport.http.full-url=true
    The strangest thing is that apparently no MyProxyAuthenticator is instantiated for I cannot see a System.out.print(message) I wrote its init() method.
    Please help ... thanks in advance.

    I am having the same problem. My client has the exact same properties as the previous poster:
    // Standard JDK Properties
    System.setProperty("http.proxyHost", "proxy-cache.xxxxx.xxx");
    System.setProperty("http.proxyPort", "9119");
    System.setProperty("http.proxyUser", "username");
    System.setProperty("http.proxyPassword", "password");
    System.setProperty("http.agent", "Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0");
    // Specific Weblogic properties
    System.setProperty("weblogic.net.proxyAuthenticatorClassName", "com.bcbsmn.webservices.authentication.ProxyAuthenticatorImpl");
    System.setProperty("weblogic.webservice.transport.http.proxy.host", "proxy-cache.xxxxx.xxx);
    System.setProperty("weblogic.webservice.transport.http.proxy.port", "9119");
    And here is part the response I get from the proxy server:
    [java] <BODY>
    [java] <H1>ERROR</H1>
    [java] <H2>Cache Access Denied</H2>
    [java] <HR noshade size="1px">

    [java] <PRE> http://...............</PRE>

  • How can i reset all bean properties to their default state.

    I have a bean which i am using to store data throughout a users session until the data is extracted from the bean and put into the database at the last stage. What i would like to know is how i can reset all of my bean properties? I understand that i could go through each String property and sets its value to "" or null but there must bea an easier way. does anyone have any idea how to do this?
    Suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    You can implement your own reset option (one methode that goes though and manually sets everything back to its original state) or you can dispose of the bean and create a new one.

    Hi,
    We are facing portal runtime error(An exception occurred while processing your request. Please send the exception id to your portal administrator) while accessing BI reports through portal frequently.
    We are unable to trace the error in the 'default trace' log file and although refreshing the cache solves this issue, it is difficult to explain this to every user individually.
    After many such errors, We found one log entry, which we are now not yet sure if it is relevant. The error states:

  • How to create a text file or XML file  and add content through  code into it...

    Hi Everyone,
    How to create a text file and add content through the code to the text file eform javascript ......orelse can we create a text file in life cycle designer...
    Else say how to create a new XML file through the code and how some content like Example "Hello World".

    You can create a text file as a file attachment (data object) using the doc.createDataObject and doc.setDataObjectContents:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.450.html
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.528.html
    You can then export the file with the doc.exportDataObject method:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.463.html
    This won't work with Reader if it hasn't been given the file attachment usage right with LiveCycle Reader Extensions.
