Accessing and modifying an Oracle DB via OraclePortal

Hello, I hope I am not bothering you too much with these, maybe, silly questions.
My task is to generate an "Applikation" which access an Database (Oracle) reading, writinge Data (also inserting new Data). There are quite a few Tables to show and modify.
First I thought I use Oracle Forms, but this was ruled out, because it sends Java Applets to the user, and this is currently not an option. Now I found that there is also a Form feature in the Oracle Portal, which seems to be able to access the database (with nice stylable views).
Now my question: Which Products are needed to do this? (Only the Oracle Database, and Oracle Portal?). How does the User's WebBrowser get the form? As Java Applet or HTML text? Are there any Performance considuration because of Portal on the server? Are there maybe some experience somehow, for building such a Database "Application" with Oracle Portal?

You need the Oracle JDBC driver on the Tomcat machine. If you are going to use the OCI driver (rather than the thin driver) you also need the Oracle client pieces installed.
The easiest way to use the drivers within Tomcat is to put the jar file in you application's WEB-INF/lib directory. If you are using Tomcat 4, there have been reports that it won't find the file with a .zip extension. Rename classes12.zip to classes12.jar; you do not have to unzip/rejar the contents.

Is there no WEB-BASED way to access AND MODIFY an iCal calendar.

I greatly appreciate any suggestions. I want for me, my wife and my kids to access AND MODIFY our iCal calendar from the web. For us, it is just shy of meaningless if we can only view the calendar online while we are away from the house. Is this possible?

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I looked at the site but am not sure my sub-average hacking skills will allow me to do this. In a sense, I think you found the answer to my question; which is 'no.' I just think it is asinine that (1) you can't get to your iCal calendar through your paid .mac account, and that (2) you can't edit your calendar through the web. But again, I do appreciate the link and your time.

Just adding to what CSound has said.
Pages and Numbers will change Word and Excel documents when they open and close them.
Sometimes the change is subtle and sometimes not. With the latest versions of Pages and Numbers, more likely not.
So don't think you are going to work with MsOffice files without problems. You will always have something not right and in some cases really annoyingly not right. Like having all the text from Pages appear bold in MsWord, or page breaks in the wrong place or some objects and graphics not appearing in one or the other.
If working between different Operating Systems and MsOffice files, I also recommend LibreOffice. It opens and saves nearly all file formats. Unfortunately not .pages or numbers. Yet. The folks at LibreOffice are busy adding to it all the time, and making sure it works in all Operating systems, Mac, Windows and Linux and they are promising iOS as well soon.

Q: How to access and modify xml tags using Java

I have an xml based document that i need to access and change. For example, the code

Working with Java I need to access all the tags, select some of them that are relevant to the current device and remade the document. I thought I would read the file character by character identifying the different labels and building a tree, storing in the tree nodes the relevant information as some kind of attributes (for example, in the case of the <xforms:group id="id1"> I would name the node "xforms:group" and create an "id" attribute with value "id1"). I'm not sure if that is the most efficient way of accessing the problem (computational power might be an issue), and would appreciate some help on the subject.

Access vba problem with ORACLE database via ODBC

I get a problem when using MS-Access 2007 DAO recordset built on table hosted by an Oracle database 10g and connected thru an ODBC link (the id is generated by a sequence/trigger associated to the table).
The code I use is :

I tried also with the same table in a SQL Server database table. In this case it works fine in all cases.
So, I seems that the problem is due to the Oracle ODBC driver.
I search on Internet but I have not found any explanation or solution.
Does anybody experiment the same problem (and find a solution)?

BPM Access and modify the context

Hello,
I want create a ivew that allows user modify the context of the process's while is not approved. How can i show the actual context of a process ? (I know the BPM reports in Visual composer but my aplication is much complex and i need more flexibility such as webdnypro JAVA). So the idea is when the user click on the process that is not aprroved he can modify the context. How can i implement this ?
There is some way to get the information of the process by someone webservice ? What is the best way to acessing the information of the BPM ?

Accessing and retreiving ResultSets through CORBA via JDBC

Hey,
Im in the middle of doing a project and I was originally planning to connect to the database through JDBC over TCP/IP only. Everything worked fine. Now Ive been told that I have to use CORBA to relay the result sets over from the remote database. ie An applet requests information, queries the CORBA server, the CORBA server via JDBC then queries the database and gets the result set. The result set is sent back via CORBA to the client applet, where the data is then manipulated.
What I want to know is it actually possible to do this? I only know a small amount of CORBA and Ive been crawling the web for even a small example of it. Could anyone help me out. Ive been looking for the past week and you guys are my last hope.

You won't be able to send actual instances of the Java class ResultSet via CORBA. All interfaces and data structures you use must be defined in CORBA IDL. You should be able to find a lot of tutorials about general CORBA, including the ones at the bottom of

You should define an interface in CORBA IDL for your server that the client applet will call. Probably you'll have a method which takes the query parameters and returns some sort of data structure that you also define in IDL.
The only problem I really see is whether or not the JVM your browser uses does CORBA very well.

Easily accessing Original and Modified pictures

Example: When I want to access picture files that are originals and modified and upload them to the internet, but when I access the iPhoto folder there are two separate folders (Original folder & Modified folder). Is there an easy way to actually put both the original and modified pictures into the same folder so you can access both kind of pictures?
(Kind of a wierd question) Just thought it would be easier to access pictures this way.

Lets say I modify a picture and iPhoto keeps the original picture also isn't it taking up a lot of space on the hard drive?
IF space is an issue you can run iPhoto from an external HD. IF you don’t want to do that, +and don’t want to preserve the Original+ then - very simply - don’t use iPhoto.

Yes you could. And, as it’s your Mac and your photos feel free to do anything you want.

Remember: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

can someone tell me, how i can migrate a whole MS ACCESS 2000 mdb (with forms and Reports) to Oracle.
I think i have first migrate the Access DB with the OMWB to Oracle and in the next Step to convert the VBA Code to JAVA or Forms9i.
BUT Is there a tool available for Migrating VBA code like the OMWB ????

I don't know if this is an obvious question, but do you have MS Access 2k installed on the machine you are trying to run this from? I'm assuming yes.
If you do and there is still a problem, you should log a ticket for support who will take your mdb and help out with the issue for you.

I had a problem with a 5.0.3 project that would cause 5.0.4 to crash. Apple asked for a copy of the project and later told me it was because there were some empty text layers. Apple is aware of the issue and is working on a fix.
In my case I still had 5.0.3 on another Mac and could clean up the project. If empty text layers might be the problem, do you know someone with an earlier version who could open it and remove the empty layers? I'd be willing to give it a try if you'd want to send me the project.

How to create and modify an XML file from an Oracle Form

I would like to build an Oracle Form to maintain a small XML file in the file system (i.e. Not in Oracle database but in the operating system).
I would like the Form to display existing values from the XML file and the user can update and save content back to the XML file.

Can I insert the XML file into a table column by inserting XML using the XSU Front End rather than using TEXT_IO to maintain the XML file directly?

Linking Access tables, creating a query with using both Access and Oracle

I am using 3.0.04.34 version Oracle Developer. I am supposed to create a script/procedure to use both Access tables and oracle tables together. There is an option in developer to copy the access tables into oracle. But it doesn't help me. Because when we updated the access tables
the copied ones are not be updated. How can I created a linked access tables to oracle and create a query with using both access and oracle table together.

to be able to query MS Access tables in Oracle you need an additional product, the Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC. It allows you to link any foreign database into an Oracle database using a suitable ODBC driver. You can then access the MS Access tables through a database link based on the Database Gateway for ODBC. This will also allow you to join local Oracle and remote MS Access tables from your Oracle database.
