Accessing Data on a Locally Installed SQL Express

I'm an extreme newbie to SQL Express.  Actually I'm new to SQL as a whole.
I'm attempting to connect to an Access database that is located in a sub-folder on my C drive (c:users/myname/music/music collection.accdb).
What I don't understand is how to set up the local server to send it to.  I've tried using the Server Migration Assistant for Access, but when I get to the point where I have to "send" it to a server, I'm not sure what to do.
I know this is a very basic question, but would appreciate if anyone can help or provide a link to information that could help me.
Many thanks,
Lisa

You need to give the right servername localhost\sqlexpress in the destination

    My database connectivity is not working inspite of installing sql express ...what should I do so that my database works

    Hello karan7,
    In addition to pvdg's post, can you reproduce this issue with a new fresh database? If you can this means it is a SQL Setup related problem. If you cannot, your database file may already corrupt.

  • Install SQL Express With MDT 2012 now or wait for SCCM and full SQL Server?

    We are planning to get SCCM 2012 R2 in several months and it will come with SQL Server 2012 when it is installed and configured at that time.
    If we would like to start experimenting with using a database in MDT 2012 now, can we go ahead and set up a database in SQL Express and start using it  for deployments now or should we wait for SQL server?
    Can the database created in standalone MDT 2012 with SQL Express be migrated to SQL Server 2012  and SCCM 2012R2 or would we need to start over with a new database when we get SQL Server and SCCM?

    Using SQL Express should be fine.  You can export the database from there and import it into a full SQL Server install later if you want to preserve the content.

  • Entity DATE type attribute : Derieved From SQL Expression for date format

    Hi,
    I want to set one of the Entity's Date Attribute with specific format , for e.g DD-MM-YYYY
    I see a Derieved From SQL Expression checkbox, how can I define the SQL Expression
    can I use TO_DATE(EMP_START_DATE,'DD-MM-YYYY'), I want to insert a date in that format, when I am creating a row using viewObject.createRow()
    Java Type is oracle.jbo.domain.Date which take YYYY-MM-DD as a string, I do not want to use this format
    Thanks,

    Here is a solution, but I am sure it is not the best one. It will work in a hurry. Maybe you can create a helper method to generalize this conversion until something more succinct comes along for US:
    This code assumes an import of jbo.oracle.domain.Date.
        public void updateDateTest () {
            AddressesViewImpl lVO = (AddressesViewImpl)this.getAddressesView1();
            AddressesViewRowImpl lRow = (AddressesViewRowImpl)lVO.first();
            System.out.println("create date for current record is currently: " +
                               lRow.getCreationDate());
            java.util.Date today = new java.util.Date();
            SimpleDateFormat dateFormat =
                new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MM-yyyy");
            SimpleDateFormat jboDateFormat =
                new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd");
            String lSampleDateString = "15-04-2010";
            java.util.Date lSampleDate = null;
            try {
                lSampleDate = dateFormat.parse(lSampleDateString);
            } catch (ParseException e) {
                System.out.println("Parsing exception thrown:  " + e.getMessage() +
                                   "\n ==> caused by \n==>"+ e.getCause().getMessage());
                lRow.setCreationDate(new Date(jboDateFormat.format(lSampleDate)));
            System.out.println("about to commit; create date for current record is currently: " +
                               lRow.getCreationDate());
            this.getDBTransaction().commit();
            System.out.println("resetting to some other date; create date for current record is currently: " +
                               lRow.getCreationDate());
                lRow.setCreationDate(new Date(jboDateFormat.format(today)));
            this.getDBTransaction().commit();
        }I defined this code in my Application Module Impl file and ran it with the BC tester. Here was its output:
    Mar 18, 2010 8:27:54 AM oracle.jbo.jbotester.MainFrame main
    INFO: BC4J Tester started.
    Source breakpoint occurred at line 66 of FusionExperimentsAMImpl.java.
    create date for current record is currently: 2009-02-02 12:09:54.0
    about to commit; create date for current record is currently: 2010-04-15
    resetting to some other date; create date for current record is currently: 2010-04-15I spent a little time looking around the forum for additional solutions. I think several years ago I even wrote a blog entry on this subject. If I remember how to do this right I will amend with more information.

  • Unable to install SQL Express 2005 on W7 Pro machine

    I am trying load a Toshiba Telecom application on a W7 Pro 64bit machine. The application has SQL Express 2005 embedded and will not install completely.  I downloaded the SQL Express 2005 SP3 from MS and it comes up during the installation and states
    that the PC does not have the proper hardware requirements and that it cannot install because of the wrong ASP file. The machine is an i7 with 16GB ram and 1.7TB hard drive. Can anyone help? I have the same application loaded on other W7 Pro machines with
    no problem.

    Hi Patriot76,
    According to your description, you fail to install SQL Server 2005 express SP3. Please help to post the complete setup error log here for analysis. By default, SQL Server setup log file locates in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
    In addition, please confirm if your SQL Server is installed successfully.
    For the hardware requirements, please make sure that your disk has at least 600 MB of available hard disk space. To install SQL Server 2005 express SP3 successfully, please pay attention to the points below.
    1.Make sure that you have administrative rights on the computer.
    2.Make sure that Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or later is installed. If you do not have the .NET Framework 2.0 installed, you must download and install it before you install SP3.
    3.Make sure that you install 64-bit SQLEXPR.EXE based on your 64-bit operation system.
    4.Make sure that you stop all applications and services that make connections before you install SP3.
    Regards,

  • Export/Import data in SQL Express 2014

    Hello,
    I have SQL Server 2008 on the network server and 'central' DB. To workaround cases when the network is down I decided to implement 'local' design on all clients. Actually I have 5 clients. I installed SQL Express 2014 on each client and created exact as
    'central' empty database on each client.
    Now during network outage I'm able to continue collect data and populate it in each of 5 db's.
    When the network is up again I have to copy/move  collected data from each client to 'central' db. Unfortunately 'central' and 'local' db's are on the different network and can't see each other hence I have to somehow export package from each 'local'
    db and then import it into 'central'.
    The problem that I hit is that in SQL Express there's not an option to save package i.e. it allow only immediate export which would not work for me.
    Do you have an idea how to handle this situation?
    Thanks
    EV

    Hi,
    I agree with Ronen and Scott. You can use SQL Server Replication to
    copy the data.
    Replication is a set of technologies for copying and distributing data and database objects from one database to another and then synchronizing between databases to maintain consistency. Using replication, you can distribute data to different
    locations and to remote or mobile users over local and wide area networks, dial-up connections, wireless connections, and the Internet.
    Replication processing resumes at the point at which it left off if a connection is dropped.
    Please check out the following links for more information about SQL Server Replication:

  • Installing SQL Server 2008 Express on windows 2000 server ?

    Is is possible to install SQL Express 2008 on a Windows 2000 machine. Has anybody come across any issues doing this. any advice would appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Jayce.

    Hi Jayce,
    The web page "Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2008 R2" does not list Windows 2000 as a compatability option as follows; -
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx#Express32
    The earliest desktop operating system listed is Windows XP.
    So I understand you can't successfully install SQL Express 2008 on a Windows 2000 machine.

  • Last access date of fields in sql server table

    Hello All,
    is there any queries to find last access date of all fields in sql server tables.
    because in our database table having no of field,most of fields are unused from long time.we want drop those fields from tables to make the table light.
    Thanks In Advance!!!
    mastanvali shaik

    Do the fields have indexes?
    In SQL Server 2005 you can use the sys.dm_db_index_usage_stats data
    management view, look at the column last_user_update, you can also see when
    the table was last accessed (last_user_seek and last_user_scan - do a MAX on
    them).
    SELECT
        last_user_seek = MAX(last_user_seek),
        last_user_scan = MAX(last_user_scan),
        last_user_lookup = MAX(last_user_lookup),
        last_user_update = MAX(last_user_update)
    FROM
        sys.dm_db_index_usage_stats
    WHERE
        [database_id] = DB_ID()
        -- if you want to leave out system objects, uncomment the next line:
        -- AND OBJECTPROPERTY(object_id, 'IsMsShipped') = 0
    --last modified date
    select name,modify_date from sys.procedures
    order by modify_date desc

  • How to access ,Oracle 7.x,SQL server,MS access data from portal 3.0.7

    hi,
    i am sorry to repost it . but
    we r badly in need of accessing data from Oracle 7.x,SQL Server and access to Portal3.0.7 Applications.
    pl. help us.
    null

    Hi swati,
    1. for this u will also require help of basis team.
    2. these are the steps.
    a) make an entry in DBCON
    b) make connection string
    (on the physical application server,
    so that it can connect to secondary database)
    (this will be done by basis team,
    in which, they will specify the
    IP address of the secondary database server,
    the DATABASE ID, and the port number)
    c) then using open sql / native sql,
    we can use the secondary database connection,
    just like normal.
    d) if we use open sql,
    then there must be Y/Z table on
    sap as well as secondary database,
    and the field names , their type all should be identical.

    Found one article saying you can get this if previous version not fully removed, and to do a repair of the previous version, but as I said I uninstalled it and followed all steps for cleanup, so nothing to repair.

    Here is the ERRORLOG file from C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Log.  At the bottom I am seeing the error you said before was a SAN issue.  I had hoped that issue was only with
    SQL 2012, but it appears it is even with 2008?
    If that is still the issue, I'm trying to understand if by the articles, if the SAN conflict is an OS issue or an SQL issue?   In other words, is it because the OS is Server 2012?   Or would this still occur if I install SQL
    2008 on Server 2008 R2?    I don't know that they will be willing to upgrade the SAN, and I don't really want to fool with a .VHD (virtual disk) as a workaround speaks of.
    If you're asking if I did this from your article:  select startup account for Database Engine services as NT Authority\SYSTEM
    , I don't recall what I did this last time.  I was doing that the last few days, but I think I didn't switch it to that once, just to see if I would have success.  I don't know if that was this last time or not when I switched it.
    Is there anywhere I can check that after the fact?

  • SQL Browser not started in SQL Express 2012

    I just installed SQL Express 2012 on a Windows Server 2008. I downloaded the advanced 64bit installation file and selected all the options except SSRS. Everything seemed to install successfully including SSMS. I was able to connect to the instance locally
    and create a database. However, when I tries to connect from a client PC, I got the "not configured for remote connections" error. I went into Configuration Manager on the server and saw that that SQL Browser was stopped. But the Start Service option
    was grayed out. How can I enable SQL Browser?

  • SQL Express 2008 R2 Error:15209 - An error occurred during encryption

    I am trying to install SQL Server Express 2008 R2 but it keeps failing .
    The computer is Windows 7 x64, all the latest service packs and updates installed.
    The application is by Greatland, called Yearli (formerly called WinFiler).
    Last year’s WinFiler, which was installed on this PC, used SQL 2008 Express (x86).
    This year’s version is using R2 and attempted to install a new database.
    I have since uninstalled last year’s database.
    When I run the Yearli install, it first attempts to install SQL Express 2008 R2, but the install fails with this error at the end of ERRORLOG:
    Error: 15209, Severity: 16, State: 1. "An error occurred during encryption."
    I have been researching this for days.  What I have done so far, based on MSKB and other user posts, is the following:
    Changed the account for the SQL service from Local System to NETWORK SERVICE.
    Add NETWORK SERVICE to the “Protect” folder with Full permission added.
    Neither of these have worked.  SQL appears to be installed, but the service will not start.
    In the Windows System log I get this message:
    The SQL Server (WFP_SS8E) service terminated with service-specific error The specified resource name cannot be found in the image file..
    In the Windows Application log I get this message:
    FileMgr::StartLogFiles: Operating system error 2(The system cannot find the file specified.) occurred while creating or opening file 'e:\sql10_main_t.obj.x86fre\sql\mkmastr\databases\objfre\i386\MSDBLog.ldf'. Diagnose and correct the operating system error,
    and retry the operation.
    The App log error is interesting because there is no E: drive on the system.
    SFC /Scannow came up clean.
    I don’t have any other ideas, so if anyone else does, I’d appreciate it.

    Hi dfosbenner,
    According to your description, SQL Server fails to start and you get the error message (Operating system error 2……) in Windows Application log. To work around this issue, you might have to change the path of the files by running the following scripts from
    the command prompt. The example is to put MSDB files in C drive, you can change the path of the files to other drives.
    NET START MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS /f /T3608
    SQLCMD -S .\SQLEXPRESS
    ALTER DATABASE msdb MODIFY FILE ( NAME = MSDBData, FILENAME = 'C:\MSDBData.mdf');
    ALTER DATABASE msdb MODIFY FILE ( NAME = MSDBLog, FILENAME = 'C:\MSDBLog.ldf');
    go
    exit;
    NET STOP MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS

  • Mobile Client 7.0 SP04 with SQL Express 2008 R2

    Does anyone know if you can install SQL Express 2008 R2 with MSA 70. sp04 on Windows XP?
    Any help / advice would be appreciated
    regards
    Barry

    Hi Barry,
    You will find SwitchDB.exe in %mobilerootdir%\Bin.Net folder. And running it is fairly simple once you have the IDES .car file present in DVD structure(you may search all *.car files). Copy that .car file onto your local disk.
    After the IDES DB is attached ,you may run ides_empty_logins.sql also located in Bin.Net path.

  • Upgrade english sql express 2005 to spanish sql standar 2008

    Hello.
    I've bought a license of sql standar 2008.
    When I added the license at Microsoft Volume Licensing Service center I chosed the spanish version because the SO was in Spanish.
    But I didn't know that there was an old slq 2005 express in Englis installed in the same server where i want to install the new one.
    Now, when I try to upgrade, the assistant says that it's impossible because the previous version is in english and the new version is in spanish.
    It's possible to change the language of sql at Microsoft Volume Licensing Service and download the english version?
    Can I change the languaje of the installed sql express to spanish?
    What can I do?
    Thanks

    Hi ,
    According to your description, if the language of  OS is Spanish, and the license of SQL Server 2008 standard version is the Spanish version. I recommend you should reinstall SQL Server 2008 in Spanish as an named instance or
    uninstall SQL Server 2005 express in English and reinstall SQL Server 2005 express in Spanish, then upgrade this version to the SQL Server 2008 standard.
    In addition, for more detailed information regarding to the license issue, please call
    1-800-426-9400,
    Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. For international customers, please use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites to find contact information in your locations.

  • SQL Express 2014 on Windows 8.1 Homegroup enviroment

    I've installed sql express 2014 on a new windows 8.1 pc. I have opened up the security. This pc is a member of a home group. There are 5 members to this group. No matter which pc I go to, they all fail to connect saying the XXXX\Guest failed. Why is the
    Windows 8.1 recognizing all of the users that try to connect as "guests"? When I went into the sql express settings I could see the actual user and made sure they had all the rights, but regardless, going back to that same users pc I get the same
    results when trying to connect. What am I missing with windows 8.1 that is causing this behavior? Any help would be appreciated!

    Hello,
    Please create a SQL Server login using the following article.
    http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/uploadfile/dhananjaycoder/create-a-sql-login-user-in-sql-server-2008/
    Now use that SQL login and the password you provided as the credential to connect from the other PCs. Open SSMS and on the “Connect to Server” dialog choose “SQL Server authentication” instead of “Windows Authentication”, then provide the credentials.
    Hope this helps.
