    Hello friends,
    I am making online exam application.
    I want my question database to be reside on CDROM.
    but i am not getting any idea how to make DSN or static path that resolute the path that i have mentioned for CDROM.
    basically i want to know how to access CDROM from Java Programe????

    Once you mounted the CDROM (something maybe as /media/cdrom) as a file system (or assigned a drive letter to it like D: or F: or whatever), the files are accessible normally.

  • Access of ms access database and displaying it on applets

    I had made the connection thru JDBC and was able to access data from MS Access database when i had written java application program. But when i created one applet and created instance of that class which was making connection to the database thru JDBC and called one method which was returning one value from the database , i was not able to get on the applet(in the text field) . It gave me some security exception saying acces is not allowed.
    Please give me the reason for this and send me reply back on this email id

  • How to create a ms-access database at runtime using java

    hi, this is ravi kiran,
    i have a situation where i need to create a new ms-access database with one table in it at runtime(when user clicks on some button).
    i have been searching many sites to know how to do this in java, but i didnot find any thing useful.
    plz tell me how to do this in java.
    plz help me, its urgent
    thanx in advance.

    Here's how I did it. Research does help, but sometimes looking at others code does too... You do have to have a dummy file that you made with access though. You can't just make a file file.mdb (it will be corrupt)
         public void createDatabase(String database) throws SQLException{
              try{
                   // This file needs to have been created with MS Access
                   File dbfile = new File(this.dataBaseDir + "dummy.mdb");
                   // This is the new database file being made
                   File newFile = new File(this.dataBaseDir + database + ".mdb");
                   // Copy all bytes from dummy file to new DB file.
                   FileInputStream instream = new FileInputStream(dbfile);
                   FileOutputStream ostream = new FileOutputStream(newFile);
                   int numBytes = instream.available();
                   byte inBytes[] = new byte[numBytes];
                   instream.read(inBytes, 0, numBytes);
                   ostream.write(inBytes, 0, numBytes);
              catch(FileNotFoundException e) { e.printStackTrace();}
              catch(IOException e) { e.printStackTrace();}
              if(DEBUG) System.out.println("creating the " + database + " database");

    How do I do that??
    Any help is appreciated

    You have to use a proxy server and client.
    You can search for commercial solutions via the sun jdbc site or use RmiJdbc at http://www.objectweb.org/

    How i would know whether MS Access DataBase is down?
    Is there any specific code for it in Java
    Need a quick reply

    How i would know whether MS Access DataBase is down?"down"? If the file system on which it's running is unavailable, that's the best you can do. If you can't connect, it's "down".
    Is there any specific code for it in JavaNo. Doesn't sound very platform-independent.

  • Java, access database( mdb) and java.sql.date

    I having a problem querying my access database with user specified date the code is as follows
    //get results of income from database with respectto dates
         //so u first create the sql.date instances
         private void getResults(){
         String text1=from.getText();//text input is like this 01-01-2005
              String text2=to.getText();
         Date d1=new Date(Integer.parseInt(text1.substring(6)),Integer.parseInt(text1.substring(3,5)),Integer.parseInt(text1.substring(0,2)));
         JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(this,d1.toString());//traces date with 1900 added to year and 1 added to month
         try{
              //custom class DataSource used to connect to database
              Connection conn=DataSource.getConnection("RealFotoInc");
              PreparedStatement ps=conn.prepareStatement("select * from Members where date=?");
              ps.setDate(1,d1);
              ResultSet rs=ps.executeQuery();
              while(rs.next()){
                   System.out.println("going");
                   System.out.println("trial"+rs.getString(3));
         }catch(Exception se){
              JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(this,se);
         }and it prints out nothing I dont know what is wrong

    Whoever put that comment in there about "1900" and so on knew what had to be done. That "Date" class must be "java.sql.Date"; go and read the API documentation of that constructor you are using there. Then adjust the parameters you are passing to it accordingly.

  • Access database/ java application/ jdbc odbc

    i am building an access database with a java application and get the following error message when i try to run the application. the log in window that i have does not have a password text field, only a field for the odbc name.

    User/password are usually necessary to set up the ODBC source. So you may need find out who set up your ODBC source. Or you need find the correct user/password and reset the ODBC source.

  • Java and Access database

    Hello,
    I have an application with an access database. The access database (the access file) is in the same directory as all java files in c:\programs\eclipse\workspace\javaBooks.
    The connection method looks as follows:
    public boolean getConnection(String url,String user, String passw)
    try
         Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
         con = DriverManager.getConnection(url,user,passw);
    DatabaseMetaData dbmd = con.getMetaData();
         System.out.println("Connected to " + dbmd.getURL());
         System.out.println("Version " + dbmd.getDriverVersion());
         System.out.println("DBMS: " + dbmd.getDatabaseProductName());
         return true;
         //System.out.println("AutoCommit: " + con.getAutoCommit());
         //rs=dbmd.getTables(null,"%","%",null); // Driver is not capable!
         catch (java.sql.SQLException e)
              System.err.println("Can't connect to database");
              System.err.println(e.getMessage());
              return false;
         catch (ClassNotFoundException e)
              System.err.println("Can't connect to database");
              System.err.println(e.getMessage());
              return false;
    At the beginning when I start the application a form is displayed where I have to indicate an url and a password.
    Does anybody know how I have to configure the corresponding things to use the database with the application?

    You access (ahem) Access through the JdbcOdbcDriver,
    which comes with Java.Not bad, not bad.

  • How to store the data read from excel using java code in Ms access database

    Hi. I wrote a code to read the data from excel. May i know how can i save it to Ms access database using java. Also i have many excels. So i should not connect the database using DSN. So is there any other way to achieve this?

    Im pretty sure that Access does support JDBCNo it does not. It supports ODBC.
    just doing a quick Google came up with some pages:
    http://blog.taragana.com/index.php/archive/access-microsoft-access-database-from-java-using-jdbc-odbc-bridge-sample-code/
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/javaqa/2000-09/03-qa-0922-access.html
    Both articles explains how to use the jdbc-odbc bridge. I think I've seen a pure jdbc driver for access but it wasn't from Microsoft and it wasn't free.

  • How to connect with Microsoft Access Database with JAVA

    I want to know the command and query to connect between MSAccess and JDBC.
    Is it beter way to make connection with MSAccess comparing with other Databases such as SQL and Oracle.
    Which Database will be the best with Java?
    I also want to know to be platform indepadent which database is suitable?

    On Windows, you can use MS Access database by:
    Set up a System Data Source using the ODBC control panel applet.
    Use the jdbc:odbc bridge JDBC driver, and specify a jdbc url that points to the data source name you just specified.
    It's been too long since I've done this, so I don't remember the syntax of the jdbc url, but I'm sure that if you do a search for the jdbc:odbc bridge that you will find what you are looking for.
    As far as the question about which database is best, you will need to determine that based on your project requirements.
    If you want a quick and dirty, open source, cross-platform database, take a look at HyperSonic SQL.

  • [JDBC][ODBC] How to compact access database from Java ?

    Hello,
    I'm developping a java applcation wich is connected to an MS Access file database.
    For now, I don'y compact it but it would be better.
    So How can I compact an access database from Java ?
    thanks :)

    Hi ypiel,
    Try this:
    1) Download JETCOMP.exe (freeware from Microsoft);
    2) Put the following code in your app (assuming your database file name is: "DB.mdb"):
    try {
    File current = new File("DB.mdb");
    File backup = new File("BACKUP.mdb");
    if (current.renameTo(backup)) {
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("jetcomp -src:BACKUP.mdb -dest:DB.mdb");
    } catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println(e.getMessage());
    Best regards,

  • Can Java Query An Access Database?

    Is it possible to write a Java program that can retrieve data from Microsoft Access tables? If so, how is this accomplished? Are there any tutorials on the subject?

    I am not sure about the exact specifics, but what you can do is set up a JDBC-ODBC bridge. What that means is you set up an ODBC DSN for your access database. Then you use sun's jdbcodbc driver to access that ODBC DSN, and they execute normal SQL against that...
    Hope that gets you started!

  • Setting System DSN for MS Access Database using Java Code

    How to set the system DSN for Access database using Java Code at runtime....???
    Replies are deeply appreciated...

    I found a 3rd Party MS Access JDBC Driver from a Google search. I downloaded and tried the free trial version. It worked fine but we opted not to purchase the full version and went a different route. If you don't find it, let me know and I'll see if I can track down the name of the product we tested.

  • Linking Java to Access Database tables

    Hello,
    I need use JCreator to link Java to Access Database tables.
    Could any one tell me what kind of drivers I need use?
    Also, where could I find the examples of linking Java to Access Database tables?
    Thank you,
    Daniel

    Thanks.
    I have read the tutorial and downloaded the sample code from the web http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc/
    In the CreateCoffee.java programming, I made the following changes:
         //     String url = "jdbc:mySubprotocol:myDataSource";
              String url = "jdbc:odbc:DB1";
    DB1 is an Access Database file located in the same folder as CreateCoffee.java.
    //Class.forName("myDriver.ClassName");
                   Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    Every time when I run the CreateCoffee.java programming, it shows the following running error:
    SQLException:[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager]
    Data source name not found and no default driver specified.
    Could any one have any suggestions for solving the above problem?
    Thank you,
    Daniel
