How can I have an asc file from one application read text
files in another applications directory?
I have multiple applications creating text files stored in a
directory called docvid (this is my application directory). I also
have another completely different application that needs to access
these text file. How do I use the "sandbox" stuff to allow this
other application to read these text files?
This code works fine:
custEmail = new File("/streams/"+userName+"/"+"email.txt");
but this doesn't
custEmail = new File("../email.txt");
It says:File operation open failed.

Open the router setup page,Under Storage tab,click on the subtab "Media Server" and enable the option "UPnP Media Server" and click on save settings.
Also,you need to Map the drive on the computer to access it...Click on Start -Go to Start>>Run/Start search and type "\\192.168.1.1" (Without quotes) and hit enter, and it should prompt you for the Username and Password, in the Username and Password use "admin" all in lower case and click Ok...Now you should be able to see your Drive... You need to right click on it and select "Map Network Drive" and check the box Enable and below click on Finish... This will Map the USB Drive on your computer... Once done you will be able to Send and Receive the data from your Computer to the Drive...

Help - "Acrobat is being used by another application and cannot open PDF files until the other application is closed."

Hello,
I searched this site and google for this error terminology and come up dry. I support a user who has been for years using Acrobat 5 (yes, I know...) to read files in a client DB program, as well as other PDF files on their PC. In the last week or so, they have started gatting this error "Acrobat is being used by another application and cannot open PDF files until the other application is closed." any time they attempt to open a PDF file attached to an email (via Outlook).
It is my understanding that they cannot upgrade to a newer version of Acrobat because of limitations of their client software, but had not previously had any issues viewing PDF notes from the DB, and PDF attachments in their email.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, as well as tried using Adobe Reader 7 & 9 in conjunction with Acrobat to try to get around this issue, but have not been successful.
Any ideas?

I don't have an answer to your technical problem. The product I assume is Acrobat that you are talking about (based on the post title), Adobe is the company name. This is a good place to ask questions on Acrobat if folks can figure out what you are talking about. They will ask for the product version number (like AA9.3.3), operating system, and other applications if appropriate. Also, just what you are doing that generates the message.
As for Adobe, you are not likely to get an answer from them here in the user forum. You will be lucky if you can get an answer if you can contact them and not be on hold for more than an hour (sorry, this is why a lot of folks end up in the forum).
So, to help others try to answer your question, what are the products and versions involved? What OS? What are you doing when the message comes up.

Possible to access files/folders on Time Capsule?

I'm thinking of buying a Time Capsule. If I backup my Mac with Time Machine, will I then be able to eg. see the pictures from my mac on another Mac in the network? In other words; is it possible to access files and folders instantly from the Time Capsule?

If you mean Time Machine backups, technically you can use it for both, but it presents some problems.

Time Capsule And Snow Leopard - Problems Accessing Files / Folders

Hi all,
I am having a problem accessing the time capsule drive and my networked Macs drop boxes etc from the finder. They were working fine, possibly before 10.6.1 and are very intermittent at the moment. If I goto 'go' then 'network', it shows all connected devices fine however accessing them seems to be sketchy. For example, from my Mac Pro upstairs, I can see the time capsule and macbook fine, I can connect to them fine, even screen share with no problems, however when I try to access the drop box, or anything at folder level, I get a spinning type icon in the lower right of the finder by the new zoom bar that just keeps spinning and nothing happens. I have this problem accessing the 'data' folder on my time capsule from both the Mac Pro and the MacBook unless I access it from the drive it mounts on the desktop, I get straight in that way! It's quite infuriating really. Anyone else having this problem? Just to update, I have both Macs connected to the time capsule for time machine and backups are working fine. It would seem that you do eventually get into the folder you try to access, but takes forever for some reason.

I couldn't access files on a drive attached to my TC recently, and I fixed the problem by repairing permissions on my main hard drive (the one in my computer.) This option is in Disk Utility. Not sure if that will work for you but it's worth a shot, it doesn't hurt anything! A lot of people recommend repairing permissions every time you update your operating system.

Can't Access Aperture Photos from Other Applications

I am using the trial version of Aperture. I can't access the photos in Aperture from Photoshop, Word or any other application (except Mail). I can see the icon for Aperture and the words "Aperture 3 Trial Library" but it is grayed out. Is there a setting or what? I have Snow Leopard and Mac OS X 10.6.5.

I guess one thing that bothers me about all my pictures being "bundled" in iPhoto or Aperture is that they don't show up in the Finder.
This is a real non-issue. A Package is simply a folder that looks like a file. Want to look inside? Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library or the Aperture Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
See? There are all your files, in folders.
Why are they Packaged? Because if you move, rename, or alter them then you will corrupt your Library. So it's a simple protection for the structure of the Library. That's all. No big secret.
But there are other things you need to consider too.
Supposing you want to attach a file to an Email in Aperture. Presumably you want to send the edited file of your photo. So, how do you do that +when there is no edited file+? Aperture doesn't actually edit the file at all it simply records the decisions you have taken and shows them to live when you view the pic. All your edits are "virtual". So, the fact that your original files are stored out the the package will be no help to you at all.
iPhoto is pretty much the same - though the details are different.
So, you have to use the applications when you want to access the files for whatever reason - editing, printing, sharing, whatever. That's the point of these apps. They are your Photo Manager, what AddressBook is to your Contacts, iTunes is to your Music and so on.
Here's a macro I use for when these questions come up on the iPhoto Forum. Most - if not all - of these will also work for Aperture:
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.

If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto or Aperture not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
*File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. This produces, producing a copy.

How to access Files / Folders on Mac from XP Laptop Using wireless network?

Hello, I have successfully set up my iMac and XP laptop to access the web via a wireless router. However I am wondering if there is a way for me to wirelessly connect to my files and folders on the Mac from the XP laptop? I am going nuts trying to figure this out. Any help would be appreciated. If the folder you want to share isn't viaible, you can use SharePoints to make any folder available to share.

URGENT HELP : CANNOT ACCESS FILES/FOLDERS in my IPOD :(

Folks,
Two days back, i dropped my IPOD Video and since then it has gone nuts. I used to use it as storage device and have around 70 GB of data stored in it. Now when i connect my IPOD video to my PC through USB cable, though i can see the folders i cannot open the files or folders. it says following on the pop up - cannot open and read the file.
also all my videos and mp4 songs have been deleted from my ipod. god knows how.
can someone help

Dropping the iPod might have caused the reason into this problem. For what I do is I keep my set of music & videos into a seperate USB flash and computer. I'm not an iPod expert but you might want to have it fixed at a local store that can fix iPods. Look into the apple website to find further instructions. For the worse, you probably will lose your files.

Access file placed in my application folder

I have a TXT file in my application folder.. I have not added it into the resource.. How can I access this file. I do not want to add this file to resource.

I don't think i migrated anything over, i had a bit of trouble restoring my accoun from a backup and never actually did.
My time mechine backups are currently on a hard drive adn the only way to access the data is to run StellarPhonixMacDataRecovery every time to accesss my data.
But thats an entirely other problem/ storey.
So if i press commmand R when it starts do i need my Mac OX Disc becuse i baught the newest version on MAC OX X from the app store.
The funny thing is , even tho there is a cirlce with a slash all the applictions in question that has this works fine like ical and address book, iuse them all the time.

Accessing files from custom web application

I have created a JSP application using UIX components that you can search for files within in IFS. After searching for the files I want the user to click a link and access the document, much like the webui interface in the out of the box IFS. I'm able display the list of files found but I'm not able to allow the user to click the in MY APPLICATION to see the files. What would be the url to access these files that are stored in IFS. PLEASE HELP.

Remote debug a Flash file running inside an application

Hello everyone.
I'm an application developer, and my standard usage of Flash is as follows:
I'm creating an executable application, which contains a ShockwaveFlash object instance, which in turn is displaying a Flash Movie Clip - also created by myself. The executable application and the contained Flash clip are communicating via the ActionScript ExternalInterface (using XML strings) and the FSCommand.
I'd like to be able to debug the ActionScript code of the Flash file while I'm running/debugging my executable application. For that, I need to be able to start a remote debugging session from the Flash object running inside my executable. Problem is, I did not find any way of doing this.
When I publish the Flash SWF file with "permit debugging" checked, I'm able to start a remote debugging session when I'm displaying the file in a player or a browser (the "debugging" option is shown at the right-click menu of the Flash object), but I'm not able to do the same with the object inside my executable (the "debugging" option doesn't exist on the menu).
Environment Details:
The executable application is using the ShockwaveFlash COM file to create the ShockwaveFlash object.
The executable application is created using VB.NET, Visual Studio 2008, .NET 3.5.
The Flash SWF file is created using Adobe Flash Professional CS4.
I'm developing under Windows XP (SP3).
Any bits of information will be much appreciated!

I'm not sure how to do specifically what you are looking for (if possible at all.....)
But, I recommend checking out deMonsterDebugger. It is an AIR application with some classes for use. You simply import the classes into your Flash project, instantiate a debugger object, and then compile.
If you open the AIR application when the SWF is running (locally, in a browser, and I imagine in another application) the AIR application serves as a debugging engine, similar to the in-Flash debugging.
There is a bit more to it than that, but I think that this is your best bet for what you are looking for.

Only IE is able to access the internet; no other applications can access internet

I recently upgraded my original Hitachi 160GB hard drive on my Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 to a WD 320GB hard drive, and cloned my original hard drive image to the new hard drive using Acronis True Image WD Edition's Disc Cloning utility. I had the utility resize the original partitions proportionally. Everything else seems to have transferred correctly to my new hard drive, but I find that ONLY Internet Explorer is able to access the internet, although I can ping my network printer, the other computers on my home wireless network, and even other IP addresses on the internet such as www.google.com, etc.
I had removed my previous ZoneAlarm Free Firewall before doing the hard drive upgrade; it appears to have been conflicting with my Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird applications, causing them to hang up and then not close down properly. I am currently using only the Windows Firewall and Windows Defender, along with AVG 9.0.814 Free Antivirus, SpyBot S&D 1.6.2.0 and Spywareblaster 4.3. I also used to use AdAware Free Edition, but had to uninstall it as I have not been able to update it to the newest version successfully.
Is there something in the Windows Vista Home Premium OS I have on my machine that might be causing this problem? It is funny that ONLY Internet Explorer is able to access the internet now.

Yes I do, and even with them checked to allow access (i.e., as an exception), it does not help. I have tried all of the MS help about the problem, but they refer me to my machine's manufacturer for support, since my copy of Windows Vista came with it. I cannot even use my DVD NeXtCopy software, as it requires access to the internet too, and even after re-installing it, I cannot activate the new installation because it cannot access the activation server!
I hope someone can help me. Upgrading to this new hard drive should not be so disastrous!

Computer screen goes black accessing network folders

We have a computer on our network whose screen goes black when you try to access shared folders on the network.
When working locally it doesn't happen at all. But if you, for instance, open the run command and type in \servername and click OK it'll flash black. Or if you open a file in one of the shared folders on that server.
This is a new one for me. Any ideas on how I could begin troubleshooting? I've verified that the only time it happens is when accessing files/folders
shared on the server and that it only happens on that machine.

Does your computer function properly in safe mode with networking? Follow below step if you do not know how to boot the system into safe mode
