  • Transfering Songs to New Laptop!

I am off to college next year and i just got a new laptop for school. So now is the time to transfer all my songs in iTunes from the family computer to iTunes on my own laptop. I dont want to go through the hassel of putting them on again and editing the title, album, etc. the way i want it on the new iTunes program on the iPod. I also would like to keep the playlists as they are on the iPod/iTunes also.
What is the best and easiet way to go about transfering the songs?

    Here are some options...

  • Old comp crashed! how can i get songs to new laptop????

I have a 20 gig ipod with a ton of music and vids, my main desktop has locked up on me. I downloaded itunes to my laptop but the only option i get when i connect my ipod is to erase and sync.....i dont want to loose all my music and vids, is there a way to copy from ipod to itunes?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Accessing purchased songs on new computer

I bought a few songs on an old computer and would like to get at them on my new one. Do I have to burn a CD or is there a way to use my itunes account to do this (without bying a second copy, of course)?
Thanks - I'm a novice at this, obviously.

If they are on your iPod, you can get third party software that will let you rip your iPod onto your iTunes. But, if you don't have an iPod, yes, you will have to burn them onto CD's or network the two computers via internet or USB cord and put the songs from the old PC to the new PC.

  • I have CS3 for Windows on my old laptop.  How can I access downloads for my new laptop?

The original CD's are in storage and not accessible.

If you are not seeing the version in "Your Downloads" in our online store, the best option is to contact our Customer Care teams - http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/

  • Got new nano and new laptop - how to get songs on both?

My old nano does not work, purchased a new Nano 16 gb.   Also have new laptop and would like to get songs onto new laptop and new nano.   What should I do first?  New laptop is Windows 7, old is Windows XP.   I do have an external hard drive that I can use to back up songs from old computer.

The external is perfect. You will want to locate your music on the Win XP hard drive and move it to the external, then bring the external to the new Win 7 PC and drag the music in to a folder there.
If you have iTunes already installed then you will need to drag the music in to iTunes once you've moved it to the PC.
If iTunes is not installed you're good, just install iTunes and it will pick up the music automatically.
Then connect iPod and sync ^^v

wow ... I get a headache just trying to read what you just said. I went and read how to migrate my library and found that you can only migrate purchased media.
No, you can easily migrate your entire library from one working compter to another.
If you fail to backup or migrate your library and find yourself with nothing but a new empty computer and a device full of content iTunes is designed to only recover the iTunes purchased content, however third party tools can help recover everything if needed.

  • I have 2 Apple IDs.  I also have a new laptop.  I have tons of music on my old laptop.  I want to transfer the music from my old laptop to my new laptop, but I don't want the music actually on my new computer.  Is there a way to have the music in iCloud?

I am wanting to have my music available to me, but not actually on the new laptop (like my iPhone is set up to do).  I suppose I am wanting to know if I can transfer, or authorize my new laptop to have all of my music in iCloud, but not actually in iTunes on the laptop?  I want it available to me, but I have over 7000 songs and I don't want to use all the room on my new laptop.  Can someone please help?

Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud, iTunes Match, and iTunes Radio availability by country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later. Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones, audiobooks), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid. Apple recommends, "You always back up your iTunes library in the event that a purchased item is no longer available on the iTunes Store," (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519).
You will be using your original AppleID and password.  that works for any computer you own now or in the future.  Do not make a new appleID.
